Feel this is important to share here as a fan of 2 people that met from the internet under pretty unsafe circumstances.

HOW TO MEET SOMEONE IN PERSON SAFELY

this goes for tinder dates, online friend, online romantic interests, anyone.

1. FaceTime before you meet up with them! There is absolutely no reason for someone being unable to do this in 2021. If they can message you, they can FaceTime you.

2. Send 2 trusted irl friends (If you can’t have 2, 1 is okay but 2 is safer):

- their profile

- their picture

- their contact information/other personal information

- the exact time/date/LOCATION/and plan for meeting them

- Turn your location ON so they can see where you are during the meeting

This is really important as your friend(s) will be able to help you if things go wrong, and find you/find you help easily if you need a quick escape.

3. ALWAYS meet in a public crowded place - avoid train stations as there’s too many people coming and going to really be secure. You want to pick somewhere that is crowded, has CCTV cameras/security guards/police around. Perfect places are: popular coffee shops, tourist attractions/notable locations in your city, outside state library, ect.

If you can, take a friend to meet them with you! They don’t have to stay the whole time just wait with you and leave once you’re safe

ONCE YOU MEET UP:

4. Take a picture together and send it to your friend(s) so they know you have arrived safely and the person is who they said they were and not a catfish

5. keep your location on for the ENTIRE TIME you are with this person

IF GOING TO ANOTHER LOCATION:

6. Tell your friend(s) where you are going, when you leave and when you arrive at the destination - ESPECIALLY if you are going back to their place/they’re going back to yours

7. If they are driving: take a picture of their licence, car and number plate!

8. Lastly, ALWAYS text when you get home safe!

If they are legitimately a good person they will not hesitate to help you give your friends these details because they’ll just want you to feel safe and comfortable.

These steps might sound like overkill but this has legitimately saved my life before, and taken me out of some really scary situations.

The worst case scenario here is that the other person just thinks you’re overly cautious.

REMEMBER: Dan got lucky the same exact scenario has ended really badly for a lot of people.

It’s better to be cautious than a cautionary tale.

Just remembered the moment in a liveshow from 2018 where Phil kinda leaned his head toward Dan and without thinking Dan went to put his arm around him then realised and stopped :(( like that’s just such a natural thing for him to do he almost did it live in front of thousands of people :(( they’re definitely big cuddlers im so :(((
