Character Questionnaire: Narin

What is your full name?

“I am Narin. Once-called Kinslayer, husband of Odval the Firelily, child of the Bayaqud tribe.”

What do your friends call you?

“Mostly just Narin. Although the one called Tom calls me ‘big guy’. It is a good name, I am much bigger than most these Eorzeans.”

What is your favorite animal?

“Hmm. I love all animals, it is very hard to choose. I like the lions. I see the descendants of lions taken from my homeland roam Thanalan. I wish to tame one. I can ride anything.” The shit-eating grin is pretty telling that this is more than one type of brag.

Where were you born?

“On the Steppes of Azim’s great land! Far to the south, away from where the Eastmen poke their noses in.”

Do you have children?

The perpetual grin falters and then fades. “I did. No longer. Hopefully, Odval and I will have a child. I make handsome babies.” The grin flashes back, but it’s not all there.

Is there a person/people you love?

“Of course. Although my marriage with Odval and Khasar was arranged without our knowledge, and very sudden, the moons we have spent together have been joyful. Khasar remains.. distant and almost confrontational. I fear he sees me as invading his relationship. Odval, however, has.. Well, let us say that we have opened to one another.”

What is your favorite color?

“Mm, I am unsure. Colours are so pretty, why pick just one, hm?”

What is your full occupation?

“Ah, I am a.. field commander? Yes, this is the term. I work for a company called the Coeurl’s Coffer. I stop them from dying to the monsters.” He gives another, wider grin. “They do not like my training, sometimes.”

Are you good at physical fighting?

“It is what I am for! My mother was the Firefist! She trained me to kill and there was no greater teacher. I am her legacy.”

Which form are you best at?

“Short swords are my favour. But great swords are good, too. And axes. And fists.”

What about magic?

He taps his chin, looking thoughtful. “I am.. Not as good at magic? But the boss is showing me how to channel aether so I can use the Machinist guns. Much more reliable than Limsan muskets, I am told.”

Which type are you best at?

“My best talent is sensing magical things. I have good danger senses and reflexes like a cat.”

Craftsmanship?

“Hrm. I can make a tent, I can start a fire, fix my clothes and armour but these are things all xaela must learn.”

Any other skills?

“I am a very good... kisser.” The Smirk 2: The Smirkening. 

Are you an only child?

“No, I have many siblings. Many fathers, many brothers and sisters. I am not in contact with them, however. Some died.” He shrugs. 

Where do you see yourself in five years?

“Hmm. I am unsure. Perhaps as a father?”

Have you ever almost died?

Narin just laughs until the next question is asked.

Do you have a secret, not just a secret, but like a really big secret, hardly anyone knows?

He gives a slow, unblinking look for several moments. “Nope!” The answer is chipper, but his eyes are cold. 

Salty or sweet?

“I enjoy sweet treats. I steal many from Kaede, intended for her husband.”

Do you like yourself?

“I do not think of such things. I merely try to be the best that I can be. To worry constantly about your self, thinking only of what you must do, how to show off best, it is unhealthy. Ego-tis-ti-cal, Kaede calls it. She should know; she works with many egotisticals.”

Do you believe in the Twelve?

"The what?”

Are you religious?

Narin gives a blank look and a shrug. “No? Azim and Nhaama were real, not folk stories.”

Do you carry prejudice with you?

Narin affords a toothy smile at this. “Oh yes. I am very rude, I am told. But mostly only hyur. I think they dislike being so little.”

What do you consider entertainment?

“I make entertainment where I can! I enjoy drinking. And feasting. And fighting. And when Odval and I f--” He glances off to the side. “And spending time with my wife.”

Favorite drink?

“Lyyrd is the best drink ever made by Nhaama’s light, but some Eorzean ones are okay.”

Do you have any family traditions?

“Being Bayaqud is traditions! They make us up. Do I follow all of them? No. But do I try? Also no. I am poor example. Khasar is much better at this.”

Are you a good person?

“You tell me.”
