Tumblr media
"You haven't done this on people?"
"You will help me!"
"Do you agree that he's dead now?"
"I'll show you. Then you'll help me."
"In the brain?"
"Of course."
"Don't expect it to tango."
"Birth is always painful."
"It was dead!"
"God, it's morning already!"
"The police had to tear him away!"
"I think we should have a little talk."
"I've seen it!"
"I think you're being blinded by your emotions."
"It won't do any good."
"Don't you understand what he's done? What we could do?"
"He won't have anything to hold for us!"
"You still don't believe what you saw this morning?"
"He's a maniac! He may even be a murderer!"
"For your own good, he'll stop you!"
"No, no, we can't do that."
"Oh... Yes. We can."
"Meatball?"
"Just put your shoes on!"
"We're going to get caught!"
"Oh well, what will they do? Embalm us?"
"Here's your meatball."
Oh, god, he's rotten."
"Malpractice...."
"Yes, I think you!"
"It's almost perfect!"
"No! We do not have time!"
"Start the damn recorder!"
"Cause of death... Um... What?"
"Heart failure!"
"He loves me! We're getting married!"
"I've seen the same thing happen with medical students before!"
"It isn't working! Let's get out of here!"
"No!"
You'll do as you're told!"
"He failed! Not I!"
"Grab him!"
"Open up the door!"

"You killed him!"
"I gave him life."
"Your optimism is touching."
"A good doctor knows when to stop."
"I didn't mean to scare you."
"I didn't know anyone else was here."
"What were you researching?"
"Death."
"I know your work. Quite well."

"He has too much integrity for that."
"I startled you."
"Does this building have a basement?"
"I have my things outside. Shall I move in now?"
"You'll never even know I'm here."
"Do we.... Have a deal?"
"Done."
"There you have it. The human brain."
"I suggest you get yourself a pen!"
"How can you teach such dribble?"
"I thought I was rented a private room!"
"I was going to show you."
"What happened?"
"He hated you!"
"I did not want to stink up the place."
"Cat dead, details later."
"That is none of your business!"
"Garbage to garbage."
"Get out of here!"

"I can't seem to focus."
"The theory is not new."
"I've conquered brain death!"
I need you to help me."

Shadow's Light, Space
"come on!" Kicks is bent over the panel, trying to keep it situated, as Cast watches on, smirking. His subordinate attempted to wrestle away the tractor controls from him. It would never work, they both knew this, but Kicks almost always tried to do it anyway.
"i'm one with the ship, sidekick, you can't control it better than i can." Cast chirps brightly, his small tail flicking from side to side. Kicks responds by rolling his eyes and elbowing Cast in the gut.
This is enough to lessen Cast's control just a little, enough that Kicks can grab the manual controls and start honing in on their current subject of interest-- Well, really, it was Sci and Creature's subject of interest, but getting them on the ship was half the battle, wasn't it?
Lakeview, Pennsylvania, Earth
Beldane Bellefonte was that unfortunate subject of interest at the moment.
He'd only just ended up in Lakeview after a long period of nothingness in his memory. He barely knew who he was, let alone how he'd gotten here. And he was currently staring, mesmerized, at the beam of greenish light pouring over Stone's Throw Lake.
It was late in the evening, no one else (as far as he knew) was around. The sandy beach of the lake felt somehow familiar under his feet. He wears a hospital gown, and while Bell has very, very vague memories of waking up at a nearby hospital, he can't remember how or why he left.
For now, it all seems very distant and... Unimportant. Not nearly as important as that light that shone on the lake.
That light that was... Starting to approach him, in fact.

Hidden Injuries
"Wait - you're bleeding."
"Why didn't you say anything?"
"Okay, I have you, I have you -"
"Don't you dare pass out on me."
"You good? You look a little pale."
"Your shirt... is that blood?"
"Oh, my god, are you serious? I think it's broken!"
"Why would you hide this from us?!"
"Okay - okay, breathe. We're going to help you."
"You idiot! You could have died!"
"I'm - I'm calling an ambulance -"
"Why are you breathing so shallowly?"
"You can barely stand."
"Sit down. Right now."
"I'm going to fix you up, but you have to sit still."
"I've had worse."
"It's not that bad, really..."
"I'm just a little... light headed...."
"It's barely bleeding at all."
"Aw, man, I liked this shirt."
"Oh, yeah that's... huh. That's a lot of blood."
"I'm just gonna sit right here... for a minute..."
"My chest really... hurts..."
"I can't really breathe -"
"Ow. It's fine. Ow."
"I can handle it myself."
"Oh, that? Yeah it's just... it's just a little blood..."
"Barely touched me."
"Why are there two of you?"
"I'll be fine. I'm great. I'm - I'm fantastic. Don't worry about me! I'm just gonna go... into this really nice... warm light..."

Shiloh is glad to hear her voice. Never is it a good sign for someone to be brought in unconscious, especially a stranger. It isn't as if Lakeview never attracts visitors, especially in the warmer months, but something had felt strange about this one. Off. Shiloh didn't know why, or how to explain it, only a gut feeling they tried to brush off.
Now that she was awake, they could ask her some questions.
Their brow furrows. Slowly, they take a small light to flash across her eyes and see how well her pupils and she reacts.
"i'm a doctor." They answer. "doctor miller. can you tell me your name?"
it's time to wake up. - shiloh for Émile @narrativeabducted
Émile doesn't want to wake up. Everything in her body hurts, it itches, she feels pinpricked from the inside out. Last she remembers is a flash of light, and before she remembers taking Maco somewhere, but she remembers being alone after being afraid.
It takes a while to notice the bed isn't plush or that her socks are gone. She doesn't recognize the fabric on her shirt, it's thin and plasticky, and the realization jolts her up. It hurts in ways she can't even relate.
Where's my brother, she wants to ask, but what comes out is "Where am I? Are you a nurse?" Doctors are a rare sight in the places that raised her, unless they're priests as well.

@d1nker was snapped at
"unless you're here to fix the power i don't care who you are." Rosie's voice is sharp, more sharp than she intends. The power has been out at Lakeview Medical Center for nearly five hours. Their generators could run systems at emergency power for about a week and a half, sure, but not without making her, the staff, and the patients miserable in the process.
"who gave you permission to come down here?" She asks after a moment rubbing her face to try and calm herself slightly. "are you here to fix the power or not?"

@antlurabbit was cheered up
The doctors were holding her for more tests. Blossom knew this not because she was told, but because she listened in, even when she might not be supposed to. It was what made her so good at doing her job. She was a glorified clown in some ways to this hospital, but it didn't bother her. If that brought the ill cheer, she was happy to provide.
"hello, miss violet." She says as she pulls back the curtain and enters the room the young woman is currently set up in. "my name is blossom. i volunteer here."
Her smile is dazzlingly bright. Her skin so pale it almost seemed translucent. Her eyes startlingly big.
"i have something for you..." Her voice is sing-songy as she opens her bag and pulls out a small bag of chips ahoy cookies. "the cafeteria is closed this time of night but i snuck you something!"

@bachelorsgrovecemetery saw a talking bird
Beldane is no stranger to strange dreams. Strange dreams that often turned to nightmare, in fact. He's currently being watched by a white owl in this dream that he somehow knows will turn into a nightmare. He walks down a forested path. And the owl flies away suddenly. Maybe it won't be a nightmare after all.
The bird lands on a new branch instead, and it speaks. Not aloud, within the mind of the intruder.
"You have no right to be here."
Ironic, some might say. Noah hardly thinks so.

@dumbthink hears music playing
The music is soft, instrumental. Some of the instruments are familiar, others are, in the most literal sense, otherworldly. It sounds very vaguely like bossa nova.
He doesn't have them strapped to a table. Not yet, anyway. When they arrived, unannounced, through unknown means onto the ship, Sci had done what any good scientist would do. He filled the room they had arrived in with a sleeping agent and then had Captain carry them out into his lab.
Sci lightly taps them on the forehead with a pencil.
"you should be waking up now. let's get to it."

The man relaxes at the reassurance, flinching a little as Shiloh examines his burn. It isn't serious, nor is it superficial, but that isn't what has Shiloh wearing a pinched little frown as they look it over.
"take a look at this, will you?" They ask, nodding for him to come around.
The burned skin is red, slightly swollen and blistering. Second degree, probably, but that isn't why Shiloh called him over. They called him over because of the shape of the burn-- very clearly that of a handprint.
"...tell me i'm imagining what this looks like." They say, humorlessly.
It wasn't uncommon for a patient to come in with very little to go on. They're used to that much, at least. Robby's mind is already filtering through possible scenarios that could make a person so fuzzy, forgetting why they were in the ER in the first place.
Robby's features pulled together, as he took in a deep breath. Robby continues to observe as they proceed to check over the only visible wound.
Then, his eyes meet the patients. He does his best to hide his confusion at the request- it hadn't even been on his mind, but, it was a reasonable fear. "No anesthesia. We don't need that right now." He assured him.
"How's it looking?" He questioned Shiloh, though he fears they're not much closer to any answers.

Dan almost snaps back that he didn't go back for the notes. He almost says he went back to try and find Herbert. The words get caught awkwardly in his throat and instead he's left once again staring at Herbert with his mouth open. How could someone as smart as West sometimes be so stupid?
"the bag?" Dan finally blurts out, giving his head an astonished shake-- more to pull himself out of his suddenly muted trance than anything else. "no, it was buried too deep, just like y-"
You, Dan intends to say, but is interrupted by a knock on the door to the chapel. His head turns in that direction, more confused than worried about being caught in here. He stands there for a second, two, and then the knock comes again.
"just." Dan looks between Herbert and the door. Settles his own stern look on Herbert for a moment. "stay here."
He hurries over to the door and opens it a crack. Staring back at him is the gaze of the bug-eyed woman he knows as Blossom. Her timing is awful, as it almost always is.
"blossom, hey, was the door locked or-?"
Blossom smiles at him, a brilliant smile with teeth that are almost painfully white. "no, doctor daniel cain, it's just polite to knock before someone goes into a room, you know."
Dan shifts awkwardly. She's as odd as ever, but Dan handles her with a fair amount of grace. He's used to odd. Odd, in fact, is standing behind him further into the chapel.
"right, right, so... i was- just-" Dan's mind races to try and come up with an excuse.
"talking with someone." Blossom says, almost dreamily, as she shifts on one foot-- she's a few inches taller than Dan-- to look past him into the room.
"wh-what are you doing here so late anyway?" Dan asks in desperate attempt to distract her and find a way to send her on her way.
She doesn't take her eyes, which really seem just far too big for her face, off Herbert, now that she sees him, responding in that same, dream-like tone. "well, doctor daniel cain, there are always patients in need of cheer. day and night. who is your friend?"
Daniel has only one thought on his mind at that moment; I am not getting out of this, am I?
In the rubble. Herbert’s head snaps up. Somehow, that drew his attention away from the notebook. He went back for– “You went back for my notes?” Slowly, his expression shifts into something so flattered. A tiny pout forms at his lips. “You went back for our work.” Just saying it aloud sent his heart back into a frenzy. And there are more. At the house. An image of Darkmore Ave. pops into his head, but not as it was when they lived there together. Rather, he sees an empty living room devoid of any signs of life. Boxes that Herbert haphazardly assembled, tossing both his and Daniel’s personal items together to sort out later. But this house isn’t Darkmore. It is whatever quaint little Pennsylvania house he now occupies. Alone.
Still, his priorities were in the right place. It was understandable that he wouldn’t go looking for Herbert. That was absurd. The chances of him still being alive after all that were slim to none, although he suspected having reagent in his system prevented him from being crushed entirely. However, he did go back in there and attempt to locate something even more important - all of their notes. And possibly–
“Do you have the whole bag?” Both hands gripped the notebook firmly now, close to his sternum as if it was holding him firmly on the ground and if he let go he would simply cease to exist. He set Dan with a stern look. There had been reagent in that bag. If there was any way Daniel still had some, he needed it. Now.

@niratias saw a docked ship
There are two people outside it, walking in the opposite direction of the ship. One is very small, comically so compared to the one walking with him. They almost look like parent and child based on height alone. The smaller one wears a long, grayish smock of sorts that covers him from head to toe, and a veil over his face. His wrists are wrapped with what looks like red scarves. It's the only pop of color he wears, offset by a long green tail that curls and flicks as he walks, barefoot.
Next to him, taller, Captain, wears a long white dress, long black gloves and black boots. He also has on a hood and a scarf, as well as a mask that covers most of his face, save for six black eyes that stand out starkly against his own pale pinkish-purple skin. He carries a bag on his shoulder, probably to carry back supplies, his own tail is forked at the end and keeps lightly batting Nye's tail as the two of them walk.
It's Captain that spies Ras first, his tail no longer waging war against Nye's, instead flicking over to the side and downwards. He doesn't know why Ras would be walking towards their ship, he doesn't recognize him. So he stops, Nyetera does too, almost at the same time he does.
"howdy." It's a human phrase Captain learned and held onto. "nothing to see back there, y'know. we've got our permit to dock. and since we're headed out, should be, y'know... hint enough that we don't have much to steal right at the moment, so..."
Beside him, Nyetera looks down at his feet, shuffling them a little bit but otherwise staying silent.
