UTOPIA - FIRST THOUGHTS

Here are my first thoughts on the new Travis Scott album

so glad it's a new sound. Not to say I don't like the Astroworld sound, after 5 years we needed something different

I like the move away from every song being trap, nice to see some boom bap drums as well as other styles, especially the Alchemist production and Westside Gunn feature on Lost Forever

the return of the gritty synths from Rodeo and his mixtapes is good, it really does fit in with them

excellent features - drake went hard af, great to finally see Lean on a Travis album properly. WSG was great, as was Teezo on Modern Jam

Carti on F!en was insane. Even as a massive Carti fan I at first didn't recognise his voice, love to see the contrast of the baby voice on the hook with the new deep cadence

Nice to finally get God's Country and Lost Forever finally on streaming after hearing them live at the O2 show a year ago, get to finally add them to my 'songs I've seen live' playlist

K-POP really is the most blandest track on the album. it's not bad but is just bland and doesn't really fit with how out there the rest of the album feels

The main cover art isn't my favourite of the 4 he revealed, I do like when big artists do something risky for cover art. I preordered the CD of the album, not sure which art I'm getting though

Travis really does seem to hate SoFaygo, was also surprised there was no Don feat but that is good in that is shows Don has grown beyond being Travis Jr.

Would have loved a Yeat feature maybe on Meltdown with the BNYX beat, but Drake went so hard on that song I don't mind too much

On the whole, really enjoyed this album. Too soon to say if it's my favourite of the year (Let's Start Here will be hard to overcome) and I still need to listen to the new Aphex Twin also.
