The rocky point of Point Lobos through the old growth forest painted by the sun. I was recently asked when i post the same pic in black and white, if that’s by accident or on purpose and which one i like best or did i post both because i couldn’t decide. Most often, if you see a shot I’ve taken in black and white, that’s how i intended for the shot to be taken. However I’ll post both and often lead with the color version because i want you to see what i saw compared to what i intended for the shot to look like. Especially for landscapes and architecture, i tend to go back to my roots of when i only shot black and white film and i often see or shoot with black and white in mind. Some stormy sunset vibes on Christmas Day at the Long Beach airport of the iconic DC Jets sign. Didn’t have time to drive closer and only had my 70-200 to grab this when i saw this sky turn, but always loved this sign and had to capture it. Merry Christmas Everyone! While shooting the Preston Ventures corporate Xmas party, one of the attendees came up and asked me if i could take a few mins to capture her in this lovely dress that she got specifically for the evening. She said it made her feel like she was in a fairytale wearing it, so i went with that theme. Having only about 10 min to spare before capturing the food and wine shots, and while people were starting their meals, i pulled her aside. Using the beautiful decor of @selannesteak house i painted her with light to match the ambiance to create this dreamy Xmas/ fairytale vibe. A few of the sneaky single shot candids to capture people in the moment while mingling. When ever i shoot events, i try my best to capture these sneaky natural moments to really help tell the story of the great conversations that take place. While shooting corporate events aren’t the most creative, to tell the story of the evening through images, there’s so much to capture in so many ways, there’s never a dull moment. For me, the challenge is how i light it to create a cinematic feeling. For this venue, i def needed an assistant because of the crowd and available space, the low ceilings and the extreme low light situations. Very thankful to have my mother assist me… we used hand signals to communicate to know where i needed lighting to capture the entire evening. Couldn’t have gotten these looks with out her help.
