Thanks to @ohhdaveyyy for the support and picking up this Happy Bear gilded sign. 12K white gold border and 23K lettering and character with a monochromatic blend in grey. The black and red come from vintage cans of enamel paint and I like the experimental texture on the black border with the oil gild behind it. Completed this 16” x 20” glass piece in the past month. A ton of techniques and experiments in this one which inevitably makes me excited about the next piece to explore with more. Designed by my teacher @sinerlts and screen printed together before the end of last semester. What a great way to start the year with a full gold window @ddparlour. For these windows, I used 23K @giustomanetti XX gold leaf and 12K white gold leaf- with a combination of water gilding (mirror finish) and oil gilding (matte finish). I’m very excited about showing the city more possibilities when it comes to genuine gold leaf signs. [CHICAGO STYLE] … Recently, I was able to attend a workshop with @seanmichaelfelix from @illuminationartanddesign along with my friends @ohnami.signs and @alfonsogarcialettering. We learned this technique of ‘Chicago style’ water gilding using 23k gold leaf to attain an affect of two toned convex lettering- A style I distinctly wanted to learn more about and bring with me into my future career as a sign painter originally from Chicago. Along with this technique, Sean taught me how to use blue paua abalone on glass and vitreous painting (and so much more). I cannot express my gratitude enough for his openness in teaching and welcoming us into his studio.
