Pairing: Poly 0t8 Ateez x fem reader AU: Mafia/detective Genre: 18+ poly romance, action Word Count: 3.5k Summary: "Not the same" Warnings: 18+, mentions of drunken sex, attempted kiss, triggers, panic attack, suggestive AN: Dividers and banner made by me @potatographics. Usual beta readers tagged in masterlist! No editing done!
There was a sense of nostalgia as your phone rang for the dozenth time in the last five minutes, knowing who it was before looking at the screen. With a smile you brought the screen to your ear, nearly avoiding one of the bystanders on the sidewalk. âHi Ji.â âFinally you pick up! Where are you? You said you would be here ten minutes ago!â
You laughed at the frantic voice on the other side, having missed him. âThe distance was a little more than I thought so I left later than I should. Iâm walking up now, is he in?â
There was a moment of silence, some shuffling, and then a sigh. âHe is and heâs more frantic than I am! He thinks you stood us up.â âNow why would I do that?â You mused, stepping up to the S.K Unit. âHe knows I just love him.â The bitterness was still there, no matter what.
Even if you were the one who opted for this. Who asked for this meeting.
Well you did that out of bitterness too.
âIâm here and coming in.â You announced before hanging up and pushing into the familiar precinct. The familiar uniform at the desk, staring up at you in shock before they scrambled to greet you.
Now you didnât think you looked that different. Was it the outfit?
You werenât in your old fitted suits of black and white. Hair was colored and shorter, and you were wearing more makeup than you used to but that last bit was a habit by now. Was it the low cut top? The tight mini skirt or the lace stockings?Â
Youâve been wearing such things for some time now you hadnât realized that your old unit would gawk at your appearance. And boy did they gawk.
The second you stepped back in the familiar room with lined desks, heels clicking to a stop with finality, your old unit looked in your direction. Most of them at least.
It was your old Captain who you stared down, capturing his gaze with your own and tilting your head curiously as his eyes skimmed down your length. He swallowed hard.
Good, rub it in his face what he lost.
Smiling sweetly, you finally turned your attention to Jisung and Changbin that flanked you, the latter swooping you up into a hug. âGod Damn you look amazing!â
Playfully you swatted at his arm, smile turning coy. âYeah? I donât have as many restrictions with my current work so Iâve really branched out. Believe it or not, I do have a gun on me, and not my purse.â You gave a little twirl just to show off the fit some more.
âItâs in the boots right? Otherwise-â Jisung made a face, shaking his head before he pulled you into a hug. You leaned into him happily, truly having missed him since you had barely talked to him since the night of the club.
It had been so long, and so much had happened, you felt a little bad for ignoring them but it hadnât been safe.Â
As if you had time anyways, even your sweet lovers complaining they didn't get to see you.
With a sigh you pulled away from them both, smiling and waving at the two youngest that were in the room, just to have one attached to your waist in the next second. âHey there Innie. You doing well without me?â
âNo.â He buried his face into the crook of your neck, showing his age as the youngest.
âIt hasnât been the same without you. Are you going to come back? Itâs been months.â Seungmin chimes in from right behind Jeongin, an expression on his features you werenât used to, like a kicked puppy.
âSheâs not.â Chan finally barked out before you could answer, his tone enough to get the others to back away and clear the way for him to approach you. âYou asked to meet. Business or pleasure?â
When he looked like he wanted to bend you over the nearest object and probably hate fuck you, you couldnât help but play coy. âBusiness and personal. Can we talk in your office?â
With a sharp nod he turned on his heel and headed to his office, pushing the white sleeves up to his elbows, a sign he was agitated. Good.
Stepping into his familiar office he immediately shut the blinds, motioning for you to take a seat while he shut and locked the door. You opted to stand, a fact he didnât mention as he moved over to his desk.
âPersonal first, if you donât mind.â You kept your tone cool and nonchalant, finding it funny how the tick in his jaw and flex of his muscles no longer excited you like they used to. How many times had you fucked yourself to the mental image of his fingers inside you, his arm flexing under your own hands as you held on?
Now you imagined another hand, another arm- many of those. Some that you could vividly remember how they felt on your skin, and others you could only think about. Perhaps you'd get the courage to make those fantasies a reality soon, not liking the anxiety that bubbled up in your chest when you often thought of physical contact in that way.
I'll get over it; you told yourself for the nth time in the last several months. The fact you were here now, facing down the man that broke your heart and had betrayed you to an extent you never thought you would recover from, was proof to you that you could get over that other thing.
âPersonal as in about the last time I saw you?â Chan's tone was clipped and to the point, a sign he was struggling to keep his emotions in check. âWhat is there to say?â
You relaxed your expression to try and appear as bored as possible. âOh I don't know. How my best friend and the man I loved and admired sabotaged my career so they didn't have to make any personal sacrifices to their morals?â Venom still dripped in your words as your stare turned cold. âWe can start there.â
âThat's not the case-â
âOh? Then what was it? I know I confessed, Chan. And then the next time you talked to me you were transferring me out. Doesn't matter why, you handled that like a fucking child.â You cut him off, sneering at the tick in his jaw.Â
He barked out your name, much like he used to when he felt like you were overstepping orders or infringing on his authority. You just rolled your eyes at him, locking your hips and placing a perfectly manicured hand on the curve. âI didn't have a choice in transferring you.â
âFunny, it sounded like you suggested the transfer. Or well, you listened to Minho about it.â You snapped out, the calm and collected air around you falling fast. âBut by all means, tell me how you had no choice but to transfer me. No choice not to confess. No choice not to talk to me after I did. No choice but to break me into a million pieces by ignoring me and my feelings until it was convenient for you.â
Toe to toe with him now, he was no longer keeping a cool head either, anger twisting his handsome features into a sneer. âYou don't know anything. I played by the rules as much as I could. But you never think about that do you? I didn't want to keep quiet! Fuck I couldn't keep my hands off of you when you were drunk and I hated myself for that!âÂ
While he pushed his hair out of his face, you were flabbergasted, staring up with wide eyes. âWhat⊠what do you mean? What did you do, Chan?â
He turned away, clenching his jaw hard enough the veins on his neck bulged out. âYou kissed me. Left a hickey. Felt so fucking good grinding up on me. I didn't fuck you. But I-â Mr. Stickler for clear consent and rules couldn't meet your eyes as he admitted, to him, his greatest sin. âYou tasted so good, Trouble. Fuck I can still picture you coming on my tongue- on my fingers. The sounds you made, the way you begged-â He lifted his gaze to yours, a heat there you were unfamiliar with.
One step closer, and you took one back. You would have found his admission hot before, the idea you had such an effect on him that he broke his own rule, but that was before.
Before that red wolf.Â
You told yourself this was beforehand and it wasn't the first time you had done such things drunk, so why did it matter.
It mattered when your name fell from his lips like a heated plea. When he reached out and grabbed your hip, pulling you flush against him. It mattered when he leaned in as if to kiss you, his eyes on your lips. âIs it really impossible to go that route?â
Panic welled in your chest at how close he was. You didn't want him to touch you- you didn't want to be touched.
It was the sting of your palm that brought you back to your senses, a red mark clear on Chan's cheek as you were now several feet away from him, back against the door and breathing a bit erratic.Â
He didn't move aside from glancing at you. You could see the pain in his gaze, the confusion. Perhaps now he would finally realize how much he had screwed up.
âThis was a mistake.â The thought of sticking around, alone in this office, had your chest tightening more by the second. Fumbling with the door, you were tripping over your feet to get out faster.
A chorus of your name echoed around you, different levels of concern and panic. You would have run right out if not for Chan grabbing your wrist. You struggled, turning to smack him again.
Jisung swooped in for the figurative rescue, pulling Chan off you and stopping your hand from connecting again with his Captain's jaw. âHey hey, let's talk about this.â
âI'm trying.â Chan hissed out, the tick in his jaw back. âWhy did you-â
âYou touched me.â You cut him off, short breaths had your chest heaving. âYou don't have the right any more Chan. I told you, you lost me. I wanted to make it clear what you fucking did is unforgivable, but I wanted to work past it so that we can work together. Because despite you being an entitled, self-absorbed, goody-two-shoes asshole⊠you and this unit are good at your fucking jobs.âÂ
Shaking off Jisung's hold, you stepped back, surprised to see the two youngest flanking you and stare down Chan. Seungmin even put an arm in front of you almost protectively, another thing you did not expect. They were the last two to join and you had a friendly working relationship with them but you weren't as close as you were with Jisung or Hyunjin.
Where was the latter? And Minho? And Felix? Two of those you wanted to see more than anything.
âShe has a point, Captain. about you being a self-absorbed asshole that is.â Seungmin drawled it out so easily, sparing you a concerned glance. âYou don't talk to us. You make decisions without explanations, ones that affect us all. We lost the vote to keep her here, but you never told us she didn't know about it. You told us there wasn't much of a chance otherwise. It was her or us.â
âEven I regret my vote.â Changbin added on, stepping up to his Captain, placing a hand on his shoulder. âWe've been a mess since she left. Hyunjin acted out until you had to suspend him. Felix has been like a shell of his former self. Minho is too busy talking to the higher ups and moving between other precincts. We haven't met our quota in months-â
âI get it.â Dejectedly, Chan's whole demeanor fell. âI fucked up.â
Some of the tension slipped out of the room then, but you were still far too tense, stepping back. âYou clearly have shit to figure out. Ji, let me know when this unit is level headed for a job.â The shaking of your words gave way to your panic, but you didn't stick around to let them poke at it.
Jeongin walked you out however, silent as he fell into step next to you. You didn't protest, mostly because he didn't ask any questions. He was there as you signed yourself out and walked out the front door, only pausing when you did.
The last thing you expected stepping out of the S.K Precinct was the tall, lanky man holding a bundle of your favorite flowers in his hand, pacing as if he was nervous. âMingi?â
His head shot up, those boba eyes you adored brimming with concern, brows pushed together even deeper at the sight of the man next to you. âPrincess?â
Tears welled up behind your eyes as you stepped closer, but Jeongin was right there. âYou know him?â
âHe's my boyfriend.â You replied without a second thought, chest tight with emotion that was reflected on Mingi's features. The way his eyes widened a tad more, brows shooting up at your admission, and the hint of a smile tugging at the corner of his full lips.
Recognition flashed across Jeonginâs own sharp fox-like features. âThe one who hit Chan?âÂ
âYep. What are you doing here baby?â You stepped up to him, glancing down at the flowers with a silent question.
He handed them over to you, leaning down and pressing a soft kiss to your forehead. The way you stiffened wasn't lost on him, but he didn't address it. âI heard you were coming to see that fuck face so I came to pick you up. I got her from here.â Mingi nodded over at Jeongin, effectively dismissing him.
He hesitated a moment before turning on his heel. âAlright just- don't be afraid to reach out. We don't stand with Chan on this.â He was back inside the next moment.
Alone with Mingi, the flowers now in your hand, he smiled down at you but it was still a little tense. âBoyfriend? Really?â
Rolling your eyes at him, you instead buried your nose in the flowers. âDo you really want to question that after you brought me flowers?â
âNo⊠you're right. Let me take you home then?â He asked, moving his arm around you but not touching. He must be able to tell how on edge you were.
You were trying to forget.
âWho says I didn't drive?â You retorted, automatically defensive from his care. It made you feel weak, like you were fragile. You knew that wasn't their intent, what they thought; you knew they were just respecting your triggers. Yet it pissed you off anyways.
âThe fact you lack a license, Princess. Now for my own piece of mind I'd like to take you home.âÂ
You hated how easily he calmed your thoughts, proving he didn't think you were fragile but he needed it. âFine- lead the way.â With a resigned huff you let him lead.Â
Moments later you were in the passenger seat of his car, much like Wooyoung's, it looked a bit rundown on the outside but had a slick, luxurious interior. âAre these your undercover cars or something?â
âYeah. I'll have to show you my baby though. She purrs like a kitten, made the modifications myself.â He slipped into the driver seat with ease, chair pushed back and one hand on the wheel. âBuckle up Princess.â Was the only warning you had before he was slipping into traffic with a harsh swerve.
It didn't surprise you that he was a car guy, at times taking notes of black stains on his fingertips that would last a few days. You never asked, mostly because it was in passing. You also weren't surprised he was a reckless driver.
What did surprise you was when you realized he was not heading downtown to the Pink Boa apartments you had been staying in the last few months. âMingi? I thought you were taking me home?â
âYeah, back to Captain's place.â
âThat's not home.â You protested, pinching the bridge of your nose.Â
He glanced over at you incredulously. âOf course it is. Itâs home for all Pirates.âÂ
The surety of his words had you stumped, so instead of answering you glanced down at the flowers again.Â
Right after they officially accepted you into the Pirates, you demanded to go to work. You had reached out to Haru and she set you up with one of the apartments she kept her girls in. Your legal address was still next to Mingi, this was just considered a burner apartment, one that you didn't need to stay in but you did anyways.Â
Haru had been right about a woman's touch after such incidents, burying yourself into work to also keep her from probing. Were you running from what happened? Ignoring It? Yes.
It wasn't because it happened, but you hated the way it changed you. Your desire for the others was still strong, but the moment you thought of them touching you, your mind would slip. The creepy drunk men hitting on you? Also making your skin crawl.
Your ability to do your job was affected. Your relationship was strained. You felt⊠less.
So you pushed through it, pretending you didn't break down alone in that apartment. Pretending Yeosang didn't see any of it. You pretended the others didn't have a reason to be worried. Pretended you couldn't see Wooyoung or San because of work, despite living in the same building as them.Â
Mind racing with anxiety, wondering just how you were going to face them, you didn't realize the two of you were already pulling into a garage under the stone and metal building on the river that was home to your Captain and his lover's.
Your lovers.
It had been a little over three months since you had been here, avoiding meeting them in person as much as possible. And when you saw them, physicality was out of the question. Not that it wasn't comforting when San rubbed your back or Wooyoung held your hand, but you would always find yourself guilty that this was all you could handle.
Mingi getting out of the car and rushing around to open the door for you gave you little time to prepare. Would you ever be?
Hesitantly, you took his hand, trying to keep yours steady. Mingi once more didn't say anything, but there was pain in his eyes and his jaw clenched.Â
It hurt that your pain hurt them, a concept you were so unfamiliar with. Your pain is something they didn't like to see. They feel hurt with you, they share your anger and sadness.
It made you want to run.
âPlease don't ask Mingi.â You knew he wouldn't, but you still pleaded with him.
His gaze shot up to meet yours, not even hiding the depth of his pain. His full lips fell open repeatedly, gaping like a fish as he scrambled for words. âBefore⊠before we go inâŠâ
You tensed up unintentionally, which resulted in a choked groan falling from Mingi's lips.
âFuck Princess- before we go in⊠can you please not look like I'm walking you to the guillotine or something? If it helps, this is about work okay?â
Averting your eyes, you moved past him with a heavy breath. âI'm sorry. I'm trying. I'm really trying Mingi.â
âDid he do something? That Chan fucker? If so I'll drive right back there and break his fucking neck you just say the word Princess.â He followed you, the door shutting behind him as you both made your way to the stairs.
âHe⊠he tried to kiss me. And I just-â
âHe what?â Mingi stepped in front of you with a stormy expression. âFuck- Princess. Then we can take a minute. Let's sit on the steps. I can hold you if-â
âPlease.â The word was out before you could stop yourself. Before the guilt could eat you up. âJust for a minute.âÂ
As he set the flowers aside he sat on the stairs and pulled you onto his lap sideways. Feeling his shaky breath on your neck oddly calmed your nerves. Even as you replayed the events of the precinct over and over until it no longer spiked your anxiety, he held you and kept you calm.
It brought you a twisted sense of pride to know that Chan was just as fucked up as you were right now. S.K was in tatters, but so were you. Maybe taking a page out of his book and being an entitled and self-absorbed asshole would help.
Then you could seek comfort in Mingi's embrace without the soul crushing guilt of the pain you caused him.

It was a lot more nerve wracking descending the stairs than you thought, a lot less prepared for this conversation than you had hoped for. You could see the majority of the open space, the industrial pipes and vents above with the fans blowing air. The whole space was renovated nicely, with a large sitting area that doubled as a game or theater set up with the large flat screen on the stone wall. Shelves occupied the rest full of books and other items, including a dagger and sword collection.
Wooyoung was the last to notice your presence, moving about the large industrial type kitchen cooking up a feast just as you had asked, but the others had all stopped to look up at the stairs the moment the door opened. San had let you step out first, taking it slow as you fought off the panic that threatened to engulf you. You told yourself you had no reason to be scared, they wouldnât hurt you. Yeosang was watching from over his monitors he had set up on the dining table, Jongho standing next to him, while the other four were standing in the living area discussing something important if you had to guess from their demeanor.
They just⊠stared. Some smiled, like Hongjoong and Yunho, even Yeosang had a shy little smile. But otherwise their concern was so evident it almost made you turn and run back into the room. Wooyoung, bless him, noticed that when he noticed you. âThereâs my pretty girl- hey! Y'all stop gawking at her! Not unless youâre going to get on your knees and beg for her love.â He pointed his spatula at a few of them as if ready to hit.
Yunho chuckled and made his way over to meet you at the bottom of the stairs. âSorry about that butterfly, weâre just happy to see you moving about.â You rolled your eyes but took his outstretched hand once you reached the last step. âYeah, well, get used to it. Iâm not about to be some doll you keep in a box.â
He smiled wider, stopping you there instead of helping you down like you thought. âWouldnât dream of it Butterfly, youâre meant to fly after all.â Blushing at his comment, you gently smacked his shoulder. âShut it charmer, Iâm hungry and Iâd like to chit chat.â âOf course, anything you want.â He hummed out and then swept you into his arms. He hadnât been as clingy as the other two, so the contact threw you off, for a moment reminding you of the night you found out everything.
It left a bad taste in your mouth and had you scrambling out of his arms. âI can walk just fine.â With a huff you moved past him to the others: in particular Hongjoong. âI want answers. Please.â He nodded, sombering up and looking to the others. They each sat down and both Yeosang and Jongho made their way over. Yunho took his seat next to Mingi, placing a hand on his thigh to still Mingi's bouncing leg, Yeosang sitting next to Mingi on the other side and and Jongho sat on the arm next to him, all on one sofa. You glanced at San to have him sit, which he did, sitting on the far end of the other couch next to Seonghwa.
Even Wooyoung paused in his cook, leaning against the counter and giving you all his attention.
While you were thankful they did, none of them standing above you and giving you ample space, the intensity of their stares made you uneasy. Unwavering attention, somber expressions, even Jonghoâs usual tense demeanor was for a different reason: concern for you.
Taking a deep breath, you let it out in a huff, placing your hands on your hips and furrowing your brow with a playful glare. âI swear to fucking God if you don't relax a little I'm going to start swinging! I'm not going to suddenly combust and I'm not made of crystal either.âÂ
At your threat, there were some tense smiles, but other Wooyoung scoffing in the kitchen no one relaxed.
âYes you are.â
Surprisingly, it was Jongho who spoke up, drawing your attention with eyes wide with shock. âWhat did you say?â You took a step closer, ready to fight him on it. You weren't fragile. You werenât-
âYou are fragile. Ready to combust. Crystal or glass or whatever.â He repeated, shifting on the arm rest as Yeosang grabbed his arm with alarm. âI'm just saying what everyone is thinking! And it's true. When I found youâŠâ
As he trailed off you stepped forward, thigh brushing his knee as you stared him down with a locked brow. âWhat? What about it?!â
âEasy Gorgeous, this is what you wanted to talk about right?â Hongjoong stood up to try and intervene but you held up a hand to stop him, gaze locked onto Jongho's in a battle of wills.
âWhen I found you⊠when you held on to me, I thought⊠I thought we lost you for good.â His tone significantly softened, but he held eye contact, seeming just as shocked as you were by his words. âWe don't want to lose you.â
âAnd when was I ever yours to lose Choi Jongho? Maybe some of the others but yours? Don't make me laugh.â You scoffed, rolling your eyes and waving him off dismissively.
Just for him to grab your hand and pull you closer. Out of reaction. You brought your other hand down in an attempt to hit him, just for him to grab your wrist. Both were now locked in his hands, his feet hooking behind your calves and effectively trapping you against him while he still sat on the arm of the couch unwavering. âLet. Me. GO!â You still struggled, but while you were smaller and could be quick, he was much more physically fit and overpowering. Despite your best efforts your breathing became labored, eyes wide with unbridled fear as your body reacted from trauma as opposed to Jongho himself.
Despite his rough grip, his face softened. âLook at me, little one, Iâm not going to hurt you.â
Stiffening at the pet name, heat flooded your senses, mingling with the icy fear that was in your veins and somehow balancing it out. He didnât say anything else, nor make a move, just waited out for your struggling to seize. Instead you deflated, hands balled into fists to try and keep your fingers from trembling more than they were. âWhy does it matter to you?â Your previous demeanor to take action and demand answers was long gone, the vulnerable side of yourself that you often rejected coming back to the surface. These men had a way of bringing it out, apparently that meant Jongho as well. âIâŠâ He started, dropping his hands from your wrists to settle on his thighs, giving you the option to back out if you wanted. When you didnât, he continued, a tremble in his voice. âYou⊠you matter to me little one, more than Iâd like to admit. Butting heads with you, watching you thrive in this kind of work, seeing the way you interact with my partners here⊠It all matters to me. Iâm sorry I reacted poorly, I thought if I could get you to walk away before you got too deep there was a chance for you to be happy elsewhere but⊠thatâs not an option anymore is it?â You shook your head, staring at him as if he had just grown a second head. Softness was not something you expected to ever see from this man, and coupled with the pet name it had you feeling some type of way. âNo⊠itâs not. I want to be a part of this. No, I need it. With you all. I wantâŠâ You paused, taking a deep breath to gather up what courage you could, turning to look at every single one of them before meeting Jonghoâs still soft gaze. It felt like you had to tell him this the most. âI want to join the Black Pirates.â The way he smiled up at you had the apples of your cheeks burning, for a brief second finding him adorable. âFor new members we take a vote and if itâs not unanimous, it fails. Should we take a vote?â He looked to the others, but you were staring at him, a question in them. âItâs not the first time for the vote⊠no, but I disagreed every time. I get it if that makes you angry at me.â Swallowing hard, you shook your head. Now that you understood a bit of why he was so hateful to you, you couldnât be upset with his actions. Well, not at this moment. You might give him hell for it later though. âJust you though?â You couldnât help but glance over at Yeosang and Yunho, having thought they two might have protested at least. You know San and Wooyoung wanted you since the first time you met them both, and the others had shown so as well over the last few weeks.
Yeosang caught you looking at him and smiled sheepishly, nodding his head. âI want you here. I uh- wellâŠâ He trailed off, getting more bashful the more you stared expectantly.
It was Wooyoung that chimed in, making his way over in a rush, announcing himself with a giggle before he pulled you back against him once he was sure you would not panic about it. âSangie is obsessed with you, Goddess. Asks about you constantly, praises you. Itâs so fucking cute to get him flustered just by mentioning you. You know, if you sat on his lap right now he would practically combust? Heâs never been with a woman, just us, you could teach him a few things.â
âWooyoung!â San stepped in, huffing as he stood up. âLetâs not suggest things like that right now.â âWhy not? I think it would be very healing for her to hear just how much we want her and care about her. Did you know, love, that heâs been your secret admirer for awhile? Like that breakfast waiting for you the day you were late. Oh that was fun to get out of him.â You could hardly process what he was saying, watching the way Yeosang fidgeted and now refused to look at you, much like a shy boy in the presence of his crush. When Jongho slid his hand through the manâs hair, eliciting a low deep moan from him, your brain went haywire. Of course you had already decided Yeosang was adorable and had a lot of cute habits, like his lisp and the way he would preen at your praise just to name a few.
âI see. Iâll keep that in mind.â Shit, were you actually getting aroused by this? It was a nice thought that you actually could, but you knew the act itself was off the table. Especially if Jongho touching you like that had adrenaline running in your veins ready to fight and run. So you turned your attention right to Mingi who was sitting next to the pretty boy. He was watching with those boba eyes of his that melted your heart. You hadnât talked to him since he had interrupted your time with Wooyoung, pouting from your lack of attention. âDo you want me here?â The sex, the shared moments in between, and the brief moments after⊠you couldnât say for certain that he did want you here.
He looked offended you asked. âOf course I do Princess. Do you have any idea how badass and amazing you are? Youâre an upgrade to our team for sure. And not just because the sex was amazing, I like you for way more than just that.â He elbowed Yunho next to him. âRight?â Yunho nodded, smiling softly as he patted his thigh and met your gaze. âRemember what I told you, Butterfly? This is another way I meant it, as a Pirate. San has always been right about you being perfect for us, and that means in this way too. Youâre a hard worker, you fight for what you believe in, and youâre a force to be reckoned with. My balls still hurt thinking about your knee, you know.â He teased with a wink, resulting in a blush on your own cheeks. âI do feel bad about that but it didnât seem to affect your performance.â You pointed out, shifting in Wooyoungâs arms. The man tightened his hold on you, chin resting on your shoulder as he let out a whine. âAnd you know how San and I feel already. We love you. Cherish you. Most definitely worship the ground you walk on Goddess. Having you as a Pirate with us? Itâs perfect. Youâre perfect.â Fighting off the smile that wanted to spread across your lips was hard, so you didnât. Especially when you locked eyes with San, his own smile mirroring yours, his dimples on full display. âYou two are charmers, I swear.â San chuckled with Wooyoung, the broader man nodding. âIt worked, we got you now donât we?â You couldnât deny that, warmth spreading through your body at their obvious affection. That meant six out of eight agreed for you to join. Six out of eight of them wanted you, wanted to work with you as an equal and a partner. Hesitantly you glanced at Seonghwa, feeling a bit intimidated despite knowing he did care for you. Still, you had held him at gunpoint, he had freed you at the safe house and you had, essentially, killed a man to try and fight for him and Hongjoong. Did they know that? How you had made that decision, in that moment, to fight for them? With nothing more than a knife? The way Seonghwa softened, you thought maybe he did. You felt shy, insecure, anxiety eating in your chest. So much had happened, all the care shown to you over this last week being second guessed at this moment. And he seemed to know that. âAngel?â He started, standing up slowly as you removed yourself from Wooyoungâs hold, his presence suddenly overwhelming for you. âHey, itâs okay-â âItâs not. Itâs not okay.â You stammered out, backing away from Wooyoung to create some space as heavy weighted emotions took hold in your heart. It finally hit, not just what had happened by the Red Wolves hand, but what led up to it. Your questioning at gunpoint, the way Yunho fucked you, being held hostage by them and still choosing to fight. What if that changed things? Did that really make you good enough? Did that really make you deserving of their words? Seonghwa shared a quick glance with Hongjoong and both approached you, stopping when you backed up. The guilt and pain that twisted their features suddenly twisted your own emotions in your gut. âYou donât think you deserve this⊠do you? Being a Pirate?â When you nodded, they reacted in a way that had you jumping, staring at Hongjoong now on his knees as he had fallen to them with a groan of pain. Seonghwa was shaking his head, using your shock over Hongjoong to close the distance and grab you by the waist. You jumped at that, attempting to pull away until you saw the gun.
âThis is why, isnât it? You donât think we want someone that hurt us?â There was pure anguish in his voice, pushing it against your chest. âYou think youâre a liability after what happened? And wondering just how we can agree to having you on board huh?â You hated how right he was, holding onto the gun because he wasnât giving you a choice. âYou wouldnât have gone with them if I wasnât there. I wouldnât have been there if I didnât hold you at gun point. You wouldnât-â You were shut up with a kiss, words muffled against Seonghwaâs lips as he held you tight against him. Your mind went blank, confusion settling under the bliss that came from his sweet lips on yours.Â
When he pulled away, he directed your attention to Hongjoong who was gripping his knees tightly, still on the ground but tense. He presented himself as if he was offering his life up to you for a mistake. And in hindsight, he was. He blamed himself for what happened, you could see it in his eyes, hear it in the way he said your full name, slowly and syllable by syllable. âWe signed up for situations like that, you hadnât. Being a Pirate means there will always be a chance of that happening again-â The air in the room grew thick with a new tension, somber expressions befalling each member as they looked at you almost protectively. You normally would hate it, demand that you could take care of yourself.
But they knew you could, they admired that you could, and therefore their protective demeanor meant something entirely different to you.
Tears were running down your cheeks unexpectedly, finding new strength to pull from Seonghwa. He let you, watching as you were on your knees before Hongjoong the next second, wrapping your arms around his neck and holding onto him. He latched on, burying his face into the crook of your neck, trembling in your arms. âBeing a Pirate means Iâm with you, all eight of you, and thatâs more than worth the risk Hongjoong. I canât think of anywhere else I want to be, or that fits me more. Working with you all, being with you all, just⊠this is my home, isnât it?â There were arms wrapping around you both, a kiss pressed to the top of your head. You didnât have to look up to know it was Seonghwa, the sound of his humming filling your ears. âWelcome home then Angel. Weâre happy to have you.â Hongjoongâs arms tightened around you, a wet spot forming on your shirt from his own silent tears. âWeâre in this together, Firecracker. Promise not to let you get hurt like that again okay?â As much as going through that again would terrify you, you glanced around the room, taking note of the others. Wooyoung was now holding Sanâs hand, freely crying while San was trying not too, both looking as if they wanted to come join. You waved them over, and they joined rather fast, surrounding you with so much warmth. Wooyoung on your right across from Seonghwa and San now behind you. Both kissing the top of your head just like Seonghwa did.
Then there were the other four, Mingi and Yeosang leaning into their respective partners, both Yunho and Jongho sharing a look of determination, all four watching you. With your own determination, you took a deep breath and kissed the top of Hongjoongâs head instead. âIf I do⊠Iâll be okay. Iâll have the eight of you right? I think I can handle anything if I have you all in my corner.â
The four of them squeezed you tightly, the amount of emotions in the room overwhelming but it felt right. It felt right to experience this with them all, to be vulnerable with them and receive this support. This is what it meant to be with them all, to be in this together.
Seonghwa said the final words, making it official as he seemed to comfort his family; his lovers. âThen together. Welcome home Angel.â

Omgg JHRNRGEJ YEAH the ateez pop up made me go crazy since I am a suckerrr for royalty and just overall anything historical (as you can see by my taste in manhwas) When I first saw videos of the pop up on insta I immediately got shot with this feeling of wanting to read an ot8 ateez x reader royalty au but I couldn't seem to find any that really suited my tastes (if you find any whether they are ongoing or finished I would LOVE some recs). I felt really dejected when I couldn't find any and even wanted to start writing one myself but my previous failures of truly keeping up and continuing with one held me back from doing such and also since I like my role as a reader right now maybe one day I'll also become an author and if I do I'll make sure to tell you.
I have also began to realize that long series have become a luxury to find with most ffs being oneshots nothing wrong with that ofc but it just feels unsatisfactory for me since I personally love long stories. So I can't wait for the ff you are planning and if it's not a bother could you give me some recs for any historical, badass villainess manhwas, animes, kdramas or just overall movies and series since I am a big connoisseur of such tropes. Thanks <33 Lots of Love... Ps. Sorry for any typos or anything of that sort..

No, thank youuu for continuing to write this even though you might not feel like it sometimes. I often start writing series and never post them because I get into some serious writers block in the middle and end up scrapping the entire thing. So thank you for persevering though those hardships and even going so far so as to do a book 2 the admiration I have for that is huge and also since tumblr has become a very quiet app these days with not that much interaction it is probably hard as an author to write something and not get that much feedback when you post it so I found your idea with the taglist really creative and good to save the slowly dying population of tumblr.
As for the isekai/regression Villainess doomed to die kinda idea, I would absolutely LOVE such a theme based ff since I love reading those kinds of Manhwa's with "The Villainess Turns the Hourglass" being one of my favorite Manhwa's with that kind of theme. I am an avid reader of such tropes and since there probably aren't that many or probably even none (besides Player: 1117) An ateez ff with that kind of trope would be amazing! No stress though stay healthy and hydrated!

To be part of the taglist you MUST follow these directions! 1- Reblog this chapter. No blank reblogs will be considered, feedback is needed.
2- Reblog the Case: It's You Masterlist with at least one thing you liked about the series.
3- You will NOT be added to the taglist if you do not have your age in your bio or have the tumblr basic photo. You will be blocked for no age, but if you have the basic pfp i will just exclude you from the taglist.
4- there will be a cap of 100, as i do not think 100 people will follow these directions to the tee.
5- there is the ao3 version of Case: It's You and Case: It's Us will be posted in time with the tumblr here. So if you want to be a silent reader, or miss your chance for the taglist, I suggest subscribing to both CIY and CIU when it comes out on ao3. My ao3 username is: Cutiepiedoom. You can also search for the story. The reason I'm doing this: Tumblr writing community is dying, I work hard for this story and yes I choose to post for free but I can also choose to only send to those I know enjoy this. i do not have to share my work, i can stop any time i want and I will if i think at any point it is not worth it to post. A Taglist in particular is a waste of my time, so I'd rather make sure I'm tagging people I KNOW are going to enjoy this series. And that means reblogging it, giving me feedback, geeking out about it, letting the author know that it is LOVED. Thats all you need to do and i can promise you thats plenty of motivation for authors to give more and more. It brightens are bad days and keeps our love for our hobby alive. So please, don't bitch about this <3
Thank you~ Doom.

Arghhh when I first found this fanfic it was around chapter 15? 16? I can't remember but let me tell you the way you got me excited for every chapter release was unimaginable I used to set alarms for when the chapters would drop and would keep reloading the page a hundred times before the chapter finally dropped and I read it I loved it so much so that I even went on ao3 subscribed to it and downloaded it so I could reread the entire thing outside or on the way to uni. I even recommend the series to my friends and gushed about how the writing was incredible and how it felt illegal to be reading this for free because this book is just wow. Like the creativity and slight sneak peaks to make you doubt if ateez were part of the black pirates were just so BEBGEW. Sorry if I can't describe how much I love this series because I am actually speechless all you need to know Doom is that I am proud of you and this amazing fanfic tbh you should be less humble and have serious bragging rights because the way I would keep bragging to my friends how good of an author I was if I dropped this banger?!?! Lowkey kinda jealous of the serious skills of yours not to gas you up but holy crap this series was amazing! I can't wait for the next one and no matter which series you write I'll keep following you because even after CIY and CIU are finished I'm pretty sure any other series you start is gonna be amazing!

Welcome home Angel.â

new world | prologue

Pairing: Ot8 Ateez x reader AU: fantasy AU | stranger -> mates Summary: A tragic accident left you unable to use your wings and, with that, claimed your father's life, leaving you in the care of your noble uncle. In Hala, a house of eight kingdoms, each boasting its own wonders, you never imagined that amidst the pain, you would also fallâthis time, in love. Word Count: 1.6k | 7 minutes Warning: wings, weapons A/n: Hello everyone! i'm very glad to you meet you! I hope you enjoy reading this as much i loved writing it.
Beneath the vase expanse of the golden-hued sky, where the sun and moon dance in harmony, located in the heart of an endless sapphire sea lies Hala.
A chain of islands said to be molded by the hands of ancient gods, each whispering a story of creation, balance, and power.
Its skies shimmer with the iridescent glow of the Aetherion, whose bearers are gifted the ability to soar between earth and sky and serve as the stewards of the land.
At the center of the land, Kaizo Kingdom, the Heart of Hala, stood tall and unyielding, its golden spires reaching for the heavens. Its black bat-winged ruler was renowned for his keen intellect, ensuring that the kingdom remained both the center of commerce and an untouchable entity. Ruled by the sovereign Kim Clan and led by King Hongjoong, descendants of the Shadow Monarch, Kaizo was a beacon of unity and wisdom.
Kaizo city is alive with activity, its streets teeming with merchants, scholars, and travelers from every corner of the seven kingdoms. Though neutral in the wars that raged around it, Kaizoâs alliances carried weight, and Hongjoongâs choices could shift the tides of battle in an instant. Proudly safeguarding the Pact of the Eight Kingdoms, the kingdom was heavily guarded, as its borders touched all seven kingdoms. The bustling markets of Kaizo showcased goods from every corner of Hala, and its rulers, known for their impartiality, served as mediators in times of strife, making the city a beacon for those seeking opportunityâor refugeâif they could survive the journey.
To the Southeast, Leon kingdom stands proudly. Ruled by the Choi Clan, where endless golden sands meet towering forests and deep, labyrinthine caves. Its ruler rumored to possess the strength and cunning of a lion.
King Jongho, adorned with powerful wings veined in shades of earthy brown and sunlit gold, rules quietly. Known to have mastered their diverse terrain, using it as both a sanctuary and a weapon. Their castle, built high within the caves, overlooks the forest canopy and sprawling deserts, offering an impenetrable vantage point against any threat.
These landscapes are more than barriersâthey are the foundation of Leonâs economy and culture, offering rare gems from the caves, unique herbs from the forests, and spices from the desert.
To the northeast, dense forrest and rolling fields mark the lands of Caius.
Presiding over this serene paradise is His Majesty King Seonghwa, whose gentle yet unwavering leadership mirrors the tranquility of his lands.
Caius flourishes as a fertile haven, where crystal-blue seas and shimmering lakes weave through lush forests and vibrant fields. The kingdomâs unique geography provides abundant resources year-round, renowned for its blooming herbs and medicinal flora, which grows in endless cycles, fed by the fertile soils and pristine water resources.
These natural gifts not only sustain its people but have made the kingdom famous across Hala for its healing remedies and restorative traditions.
Southern to this estate lived the Kingdom of Satriya. Famous for their silver-armoured knights known as the most disciplined defender in all of Hala, their fortresses carved into unyielding stone. Every path through Satriya is a calculated defense, its people prepared for any threat.
Presiding over this fortified kingdom is King Yeosang, a ruler whose strict discipline and formidable presence inspire both loyalty and fear. Known as the Demon of the Silver Wings, his piercing gaze and unrelenting expectations command respect. Tales of his terrifying battlefield strategies and unwavering enforcement of order have spread across Hala, deterring enemies and ensuring Satriya remains impenetrable.
Satriya remains as the most private of all kingdoms, its gates closed to anyone who is not born of Satriyan blood. This exclusivity fosters a deep sense of unity and loyalty among its people, but also shrouds the kingdom in mystery to outsiders. Despite his fearsome reputation, his people trust him implicitly, knowing that his rule is the cornerstone of their survival.
Satriyaâs eastern border meets Kaizo, while its westernmost cliffs descend into treacherous seas. The kingdomâs trade in sturdy weapons and tools extends its influence far beyond its borders, solidifying its position as an indomitable force in Hala.
Bordering the southern of Kaizo lay a united land of Charadyn and Kian. Despite their distinct identities, the two kingdoms share a deep bond, their rulers united by friendship and a shared appreciation for lifeâs riches.
Charadyn Kingdom belonged to the prestige Jung Clan. Notorious for their eternal bonfires, Charadyn thrives on the never ending celebration and wealth.
From a young age, King Wooyoung embraced the lively spirit of his kingdom, forging a reputation as a leader who rules not just with authority, but with the joy and vitality that inspire his people. Festivals in Charadyn are legendary, attracting visitors from every corner of Hala, who come to revel in the kingdomâs unending celebrations.
Charadynâs economy is built on its vibrant cultural exports. Its exotic spices, rare jungle plants, and handcrafted artifacts are sought after across the realm. The kingdomâs thriving tourism, driven by its grand festivals and fiery traditions, further fuels its prosperity. Its northern border touches Kaizo, while its southern coast provides access to maritime trade routes, strengthening its position as a cultural and economic powerhouse.
Not far from the buzzling, lively, vibrant city of Charadyn lies the Kingdom of Heritage, known as the Kingdom of Kian. Ruled by the noble Choi Clan, Kianâs people hold a deep belief that their lineage is blessed by divinity. Adorned in jewels and celestial artifacts, King San governs with pride. The kingdom flourishes through its abundant natural resources and exceptional craftsmanship. As a leading exporter of diamonds, sacred relics, and luxurious textiles, Kianâs wealth is unparalleled. Its fertile plains provide plentiful harvests, sustaining its people and fueling trade with neighboring lands.
Far to the Northeast of Kaizo, high above the clouds, nestled among breezy mountain peaks, lay the Aeros Kingdom, home to the dragon breeders. Composed of multiple floating islands suspended in the skies, Aeros is a breathtaking spectacle of nature and magic. At its heart, perched in the middle of the heavens, stands the grand palace of Aeros, a shining beacon visible from every corner of the kingdom.
King Mingi, with his tundra-like wings, presides over this aerial wonderland, where the roar of dragons harmonizes with the gentle whispers of the mountain winds. The skies are alive with the majestic flight of dragons and their caretakers, whose unbreakable bond with the creatures defines Aerosâs spirit.
The kingdom thrives on the trade of dragons and their rare, coveted scales, used for crafting armor, ornaments, and magical items of extraordinary value. In addition, Aeros exports sky-bred textiles, lightweight yet durable, imbued with the essence of the breezes that carry the kingdomâs legacy across Hala.
Bordered by the icy seas and blanketed in perpetual mist, lies the Reed Kingdom. This land is cradled by the ocean, its shores wrapped in an ethereal veil of fog that rarely lifts. Yet Reedâs true majesty lies above, connected to the lowlands by a towering, frost-covered bridge. High in the frigid mountains stands Reedâs capital, an unyielding fortress of ice and stone nestled among snow-capped peaks. Here, the cold is relentless, and the winds howl like the spirits of the mountains themselves.
King Yunho, with his indigo wings, embodies the kingdomâs cold, unwavering resolve. His strength and endurance mirror the icy resilience of his domain, and his piercing gaze leaves little room for doubt or defiance. Under his steadfast rule, the people of Reed have flourished despite the harshness of their environment, adapting and thriving where others might falter.
Reedâs economy thrives on trading its unique resources to other kingdoms. Rare ice crystals, harvested from the deepest caverns, are prized across Hala for their enchanting properties, beauty, and magical applications. Additionally, frost-forged metals, tempered by the frigid climate, are crafted into tools, weapons, and armor of unparalleled durability, making them essential for kingdoms facing harsh conditions. Reedâs expertise in producing cold-weather goods sustains its prosperity, exchanging its treasures for resources it cannot cultivate within its icy domain.
Reed is a kingdom of stark beauty and unrelenting strength, where the sea meets the mountains in a breathtaking display of natureâs extremes. To venture into its icy wilderness is to face a world that demands respectâand a king who commands it. Outsiders who dare step into Reed often find themselves frozen in more ways than one, humbled by the cold and the unyielding presence of King Yunho.
The royals held immense power over Hala for a reason. The rulers of the eight kingdoms were no ordinary beings; they bore the mark of True Aetherion, a glowing imprint on their foreheads that pulsed with celestial energy. This blue blood, shimmering with the essence of the heavens, set them apartânot just in authority, but in being. It granted them the ability to command the skies, their wings reflecting the power and pride of their Country.
You paused in your step, the vibrant hum of life around you fading as a sudden stillness overtook the air. The faint glow of the Aetherion above pulsed rhythmically, and a powerful gust swept past, bending the trees and rippling the waters in its wake. A dark silhouette descended from the clouds, cutting across the horizon like a falling star, its form too grand, too perfect, to belong to mere mortals.
Your breath caught as the figure moved with otherworldly grace, its wings glinting with hues that mirrored its domainâgolden like Leonâs sands or indigo like Reedâs icy peaks. As it passed overhead, you caught a glimpse of the faint glow on their forehead, unmistakable and radiant, the mark of their celestial lineage. It was rare to see a royal so far from the cities, their presence in such remote lands a reminder of the power they carried, bound to the skies.
Though you couldnât tell which kingdom they hailed from, you knew without a doubt it was one of the eight royals.
Since only they bore the mark of the Aetherion carried from the blue blood of the Primordials, their very existence was tied to the elements that shaped Hala.
They are Hala Core itself.

fic masterlist
âAre you ready for this?âÂ
All you could hear was your heart thumping inside your ears, unable to focus on your Commander in Chiefâs loaded question, tuning into the sounds of keyboard tapping and faceless chattering about the current crimes and cases that were plugging up the figurative drain of your local prescient, rather than what he was saying to you. Were you ready to infiltrate one of the most prevalent crime families your law enforcement agency has come to know and loathe over the better part of the year? Not as their friend, but this time, as an enemy? They had half your city in the palm of their hands and were itching to take it over, pushing the drug and gun trade into overdrive, washing countless loads of dirty dollar bills, and in turn, leaving you and your agency to clean up the mess they left behind â and what a mess they always made. Bullets, bodies, and broken dreams. Crime and punishment. Officers, regulations, and yellow tape. An endless game of chess that nobody ever seemed to win. The perpetrators of this game, their faces never left your mind, etching their likeness inside the grooves of your memory even after being away from them all for so long, at least, until now â if you stopped being such a goddamn pussy and answered your boss.Â
âY/NâŠ? You can back out if you need toâŠâ He gave you an apologetic smile. âGiven your history, I know it might be a lot on you. We can always put somebody else in instead.âÂ
âNo..!â you suddenly protested, bringing a closed fist near your mouth as you forcefully cleared your throat. âWith all due respect, sir, Iâve been preparing myself for this since you helped meâŠchange course and join the academy.â Realizing you were digging your nails into your palms, you relaxed your grip, leaving red idents behind. âAnd, of course, when we realized what the Kim Estate was actually doing behind closed doors.â
âIt certainly wasnât tennis,â the seasoned man chuckled softly, leaning back slightly inside his fraying office chair, rubbing at his eyes from underneath his reading glasses, not aware of how prominent his eye bags were becoming. He let out a small sigh. âY/N, I have a lot of trust in you. Going back into that world as an undercover operative is not a walk in the park under any circumstances, but thisâŠthey have proven to be unpredictable. Iâll ask you once more. Are you sure you can handle this case?âÂ
In all honesty, you were never too sure what you could handle, both in your professional and personal life, but the uncertainty never stopped you from diving in headfirst. And this, this case, being one of the dominos that would knock them all down, wellâŠit was simply too delicious to pass up.Â
You stood up, bowing your head to your superior, before giving him a knowing nod. âIâm ready, sir.âÂ
-
Your closest friend back in your police academy days and fellow undercover partner, Yeonjun, was the first person you spotted upon exiting your bossâ office, well, specifically his bright red hair, slowly navigating past the maze of desks and whispering coworkers to make it over to him, privy to the looks some of them gave you as you slipped past them â though it didnât phase you anymore. Your past did not define you. At least, thatâs what your therapist had been telling you the past few years.Â
âHey, partner,â Yeonjun greeted you with a smile, reaching out to hand you a paper cup full of freshly steeped coffee, leaning back to sit down on the crowded surface of his desk. âTomorrowâs the big day. You ready?âÂ
You took the steaming cup, your jaw tensing as the bitter liquid hit your tastebuds. âIâm as ready as Iâll ever be, Choi.â You always thought of someone else when you uttered that surname. He was the complete opposite of your partner here: calm and collected, soulless when he wanted to be and full of love the very next moment, ticking back between the two like a malfunctioning metronome. You hated him for it.Â
âHey, itâs just Yeon, now. Come tomorrow, I wonât be my normal sexy self.â He pulled his freshly printed fake ID out of his t-shirt pocket and held it up to your face, replicating the toothy smile he had inside the picture. âWell, still sexy, yeah?âÂ
Chuckling, you leaned in, studying the fake ID, impressed by how real it looked. âVery sexy, Yeon, but remind me why you dyed your hair red? Is it the quarter life crisis settling in?âÂ
Yeonjun rolled his eyes, tucking his ID back into his pocket. âHa-ha, funny. I just thought I should look the part if Iâm going in as some renowned hacker.âÂ
You pushed a few files out of the way to lean against Yeonjunâs desk beside him. âHave you been studying up on your skills then?âÂ
âOf course, I have. I know I joke around a lot, but Iâve dedicated my life to this, Y/NâŠâÂ
You looked down at Yeonjunâs hand, the one that rested on the desk in between you, his fingers drumming against the surface. âGood, because they donât play aroundâŠâ
The drumming stopped. Yeonjun turned his head to look at you, a flicker of light inside his brown eyes, like he was trying to understand you. âDo youâŠever think about your life before the academy? Before this? Do you wish you could go back?âÂ
You bit into your lip, gazing past Yeonjunâs hand at one of the files that contained information about the very people you would be betraying. âIâŠjust want to be good. Do whatâs rightâŠThatâs why I left all of that. Itâs why Iâm here now.âÂ
He leaned over slightly until his shoulder pressed into yours, using his pinky to nudge at yours. âNot many would do what youâve done, yâknow. Giving up their way of life for something like this.âÂ
You nudged back, staring into the half empty cup of coffee you were still holding onto. âNot many people are this stupid.âÂ
âNot stupid.â Yeonjun pretended to clink his empty paper cup against yours, giving you a soft smile. âBrave. Youâre the key component of this entire operation, Y/N. Thatâs huge. Youâll make a difference. Isnât that what this is all about?âÂ
âMaybeâŠyouâre right,â you replied softly, once again distracted by the folder from before, the one that was slightly open just enough to reveal the image of a man with slick back hair, dressed in quaint Victorian style clothes, with a big bow wrapped around his neck. Kim Hongjoong, owner of the Kim Estate and leader of the Black Pirate Organization. You knew him all too well, and all his closest cohorts. Would they recognize you? You hadnât seen them since you were a young girl, forgotten by most and lost inside a system that didnât care about you, except for the ambitious young man that swore he would one day be sat atop his ivory tower with those that followed his path. And now there he was, living the high life inside his big shiny mansion, sipping on fine wine, while you were still forcing down bitter instant coffee day after day, surrounded by people that looked at you, but never really saw you for what you were, whatever that was. Maybe Hongjoong knew.Â
âY/NâŠ? Youâre staring off into space againâŠâ Yeonjun whispered near you, getting up from the desk once you came back to Earth. âAnyways, itâs late, and we have a lot to do tomorrow. We should get going.âÂ
âYouâre right, we need as much rest as we can get.â You stretched out your legs before standing back up, just now noticing that you were the only two left inside the workspace, the light from your Chiefâs office still peeking out past the dusty blinds. Maybe your Chief knew.Â
Packing up your briefcase, you smiled at Yeonjun. âShould I dye my hair too?âÂ
Yeonjun pouted, resting his own briefcase against his hip. âThatâs my thing.âÂ
-
Particles of dust and dirt filled your lungs, joining the blood that you began to choke on. It hurt to breathe, but your body carried on supplying oxygen to your lungs, not giving you a choice in the matter. You rolled over onto your back to face the night sky, your teary eyes focusing on the twinkling stars and the bright blue moon that loomed over the town, storm clouds rolling past until they blocked out the pretty view. Heavy rain began to pour down, soaking you to the bone. Even though you were losing the will to live, you still held onto the silver pair of scissors that you used to prove a point, even though it mightâve cost you your life. That was still something. However, your dear mentor still stood over you, his neck being clutched tightly by his trembling fingers, crimson slowly slipping past them.Â
âSee what happens when you bite the hand that feeds you? Ungrateful brat,â he choked out in between shallow breaths. Frustrated, he let out a gurgled growl, tossing his bloodied shank onto the dirt road beside his feet. You couldâve sworn you saw tears slip down his flushed cheeks, but then again, it was raining. âI didnât want to do thisâŠbut you gave me no choice.âÂ
His closest companion took a step forward to securely grasp his upper arm, urging him, âSir, we need to get you to the nearest hideout. I wonât let you bleed out like this.âÂ
The disheveled manâs other trusted subordinate placed a gloved hand on one of his shoulders, squeezing into it with urgency. He surveyed you past his foggy glasses, pushing them up the slope of his nose. His eyes were once filled with a sense of endearment when he looked at you, but now, they held contempt. âShe made her decision, sir.âÂ
The struggling leader turned his head to look back and forth between his dear followers, then at his men who all waited behind them, their rain-streaked faces contorted with conflicted apprehension. They stood perfectly still like statues, until the all too familiar sound of sirens rang out in the distance. Thatâs when they all scattered, like rats, escaping from the flashing lights and disappearing into the dark of the night. Â
Your soon to be killer was the last one to leave, looming over you as though he was Death himself, beads of rain, sweat, and blood dripping from his chin and down onto your face below. âJust one question, darlingâŠâ He held his neck tighter than before, growing dizzier from all the blood loss. âWhy?âÂ
A small, self-satisfied laugh painfully bellowed from your chest, causing you to grab at your stomach where it had been sliced into. âThe blade cuts both ways, sir. I was just following your leadâŠâ You weakly lifted your hand up in the air, as though you wanted to reach him, but simply couldnât. âWhy arenât you proud of the monster you created?âÂ
The man began to beam at you, but the corner of his lips stretched to an unfathomable degree, as though he had carved a smile into his own face. He lifted his chin up just enough to rid himself of the shadow that was cast over him, his brown eyes now void of anything, simply black. Soulless. âOh, darlingâŠthe monster was always there. I simply dug it up.âÂ
You suddenly woke up and sat upright in your bed, your entire body covered in a layer of sweat, leading you to desperately kick off the comforter that had trapped you inside the sweltering heat. Upon realizing you were no longer caught inside a warped memory from your adolescence, you looked down at your stomach, lifting up the edge of your shirt to see if your scar was still there, sighing softly when you saw the jagged patch of skin.Â
Your past doesn't define you. He doesn't define you â none of them do. And, now, you had the opportunity to create your own definition, and get a little revenge while you were at it.Â
-
âDo we ring the doorbellâŠ?â Yeonjun asked from beside you, nervously shifting his weight from foot to foot, getting a bit dizzy from trying to take in all of the glory of the Kim Estate.Â
You were too busy studying the faded stains of blood left on the stone floor below to notice how out of character Yeonjun was already behaving, not that you could blame him. A similar prick of anxiety was already embedding itself into your mind, but you waved it away as soon as it made itself present. âWe may be entering a lionâs den, but we wonât behave like them. Iâll knock.âÂ
Yeonjun nodded swiftly, clutching the handle of his messenger bag tightly inside his sweaty hand. âHopefully they donât eat us alive.âÂ
You gently pushed a few strands of hair behind your ear, making sure you didnât disturb the positioning of the micro earpiece that was sitting just behind your tragus. âThey wonât, as long as we prove our worth.âÂ
You grabbed onto the obnoxious ivory door knocker, and just as you were about to make your presence known, you found yourself being yanked into the mansion by someone much bigger than you, Yeonjunâs squeaks of protest becoming background noise as soon as the man slammed you against the nearest wall. What felt to be the cold barrel of a compact handgun pressed up into the bottom of your chin with a click, your assailantâs focused, deep-set eyes boring into your own. âIs this how you welcome all your guests?â
âNot all of themâŠsome I leave dead on the doorstep before they can even get a chance to beg on their knees,â the man muttered in a distinctly gravelly voice, a small chuckle bubbling out of his throat. Usually, the people he dealt with would be pissing themselves at this point, but it just seemed to be another day for this strangely familiar visitor.Â
You could almost see your partner out of the corner of your eye, already on his own knees, his distinctively red hair being held onto by a nameless man in a 3-hole knit balaclava. It was then that you angled your head up slightly to get a good look at your old friend, feeling the barrel push harder into your skin. âEvery guard dog has to have their fun, right? And, if you blew my head off now, well, whereâs the fun in that?âÂ
âYouâre right, doll.â The tall manâs plump lips quirked up into a smirk, slowly dragging his gun past your chin, down your neck, and along the softest parts of your body, poking and prodding at you in an attempt to humiliate you. âShould I see how many new holes I can give you? Fill them all with hot lead?âÂ
âAt least buy me a drink first,â you said through gritted teeth, trying not to show any discomfort when he pushed the loaded gun roughly into your abdomen, directly into your scar, not that he couldâve known it was there.Â
He seemed to enjoy your pained response, leaning his head back to let out a sudden laugh, one that was short and abrupt like a bark. âYouâre one crazy bitchâŠI like it.âÂ
It was just then that somebody else entered the foyer, their presence so distinctly powerful, the lot of you couldnât help but notice before he even stepped foot in the room. âIs that any way to treat a valued guest, Mingi? I thought I trained you better than that.âÂ
Mingi immediately de-cocked the gun and brought it behind his back, tucking it away inside the waistline of his tailored pants. He retreated from his position and joined the unnamed man behind Seonghwa once the lean man made his way over to the entrance that you and your partner had just barely made it past. âIâm sorry, sir.âÂ
Seonghwa patted Mingiâs shoulder with a gloved hand, giving him a small nod of understanding, before turning his attention to you and Yeonjun, the both of you cautiously standing with your backs against the paneled wall. âI do apologize for my guard dog. We try to keep him on a tight leash, but sometimes he gets loose.â His shifting eyes formed half crescents. âYou understand.âÂ
Yeonjun glanced over at you for guidance, and you responded with a small smile, before nodding your head obediently at Seonghwaâs words, Yeonjun following your lead. âItâs not a problem.âÂ
Seonghwa clasped his hands together, shaking his head slightly, a strand or two of raven hair falling past his forehead from where the rest of it sat perfectly still. He couldnât seem to understand why he was experiencing a bout of deja vu. âWhere are my manners?â He pressed his palm into his chest, and gave a small bow. âIâm Park Seonghwa, the second in command, if you will, here at the Kim Estate.âÂ
Yeonjun bowed back instantly, pushing his dyed hair behind his ears as he stood up straight. âMy nameâs Yeon. Thatâs what I go by online.âÂ
Seonghwaâs eyebrows raised up slightly. âAh, I know you.â He chuckled to himself, glad that he was able to pinpoint the air of familiarity, but still annoyed that something wasnât quite right. âYouâre that hacker thatâs going around and fucking with the local government, arenât you?âÂ
Yeonjun was glad he didnât eat too much that morning, otherwise he wouldâve already thrown it up by now. He brought a peace sign up to his face and smiled. âThatâs me, professional shit-stirrer at your service.âÂ
As more men began to trickle into the foyer to see what all the commotion was about, Seonghwa slowly turned his attention back to you, the true object of his frustration. Itâs like he had seen you many times before, in a dream, perhaps? In the casino they ran behind closed doors? Or maybe you were one of the many playthings that were brought in to appease the voracious appetites of his degenerate cohorts. Either way, Seonghwa both loved and loathed the way you were already inside his mind, like you had already lived there, and your existence had simply been unearthed by the sands of time.Â
âAnd, you areâŠ?â he asked in a slow, calculated manner, his head tilting to the side.Â
âIâm a diamond expert,â you explained vaguely, motioning to the large suitcase of supplies you were holding. âI can see the value of most things from a mile away, much like your dear leader.âÂ
Hongjoong was already aware of your arrival. You could feel it in your bones.Â
Seonghwa brought a closed fist to his chin, nodding at your words, still not completely sure why he felt so uncomfortable. âBut, who are you?âÂ
Your bubbling amusement was starting to rush to the surface, unable to keep yourself from smiling. And, just like that, your old mentor entered into your world once again, much like you entered his. âWhy donât you ask him? I think heâll have an idea of who I am,â you replied giddily, prompting you to motion your head to the man that stood above the rest of you.Â
You felt something stir within the men that looked at you, as though what had been hidden for so long had finally come to light. You were, of course, taking a gamble with your life, and your partnerâs as well, but risks were meant to be taken, rules were meant to be broken, and strings were meant to be cut. As though right on time, Hongjoong dug his nails into the mahogany railing of the expansive landing, his free hand unconsciously adjusting the bow that was wrapped securely around his neck. He understood the most out of all them. Value. You looked up to him, moving your fingers as though you were using a pair of scissors.Â

Taglist: (open! dm me/send ask/reply here)
Alone!? Oh we canât survive like this in the rush of searching for a beautiful life. So we make friends on different occasions like some childhood friends while studying in a school, online friends, friends during family gatherings, friends on entering a new university, friends at our workplace and many more.
We remember the only friends we get attached to more and become close and the others just remain part of our memory staying in a little corner of our mind eventually.
"So you are telling me, we are .....friends?" You eyed the boy with a still confused face as why he is so much eager to help you and trying to convince you as his old friend.
"Yes cupcake! now please come with me for the interview to this office and to submit your resume. I am more than happy that they are looking for a new worker and apparently you are also searching for a job to start after this semester ends." The boy with so much of excitement and eagerness is waiting for your reply.
"okay, but look I still can't remember you and still trusting you. So how come you think they would react to my plain resume for this big company?" You are not sure of your capability for this company where so many highly qualified well-beings apply but still get rejected and this random boy claiming your bestfriend from old town is urging you to apply there.
'Why?'
You looked around the streets to take a final decision with a calm breath releasing,"I will apply but don't get high hopes of me getting into it. I am sure they are not going to take me in."
The boy in front of you smirked and put his hand firmly on your left cheek slightly brushing the lower lip for a blink," Oh trust me, they will love you to join their company."
But what happens when some people suddenly come to your life and claim to be your old friends but you canât remember them. So, brace yourself because they are here to make your life a living hell. You are no one to build your paradise because they will make sure you to be their puppet. How you wish to be alone now!
âThe pretty heaven of yours is going to turn into hell, sweety.â
