Jigsaw - {CS}
Tumblr media
↪   Summary: You are the lead detective in an investigation surrounding one of the most infamous killers the city has ever seen. Unfortunately for you, Jigsaw knows you're onto him and has played you like a game at every turn, threatening the case and your status. Your determination to catch him finally gets you a lead, only for you to find yourself tangled in a special trap that he designed just for you. Let the game begin.
↪ Pairings: Jigsaw Killer Choi San x Female Detective Reader
↪   Rating: M 18+
↪   Genre: Non-idol/Slasher/Horror movie au/ Suggestive / Fluff/Friends to enemies to lovers
↪   Word Count: 5.7k
↪ Warnings/Contents: References to classic horror movies, mainly Saw, Silence of the Lambs, and Scream. Mentions of death/murder/being shot (not detailed). Seonghwa and Mingi both make cameos in this story with a few other members being mentioned. Swearing and implied smut (MDNI). San being a teasing little shit, makeout sessions, fondling over clothes.
↪ Side Notes: To the wonderful @pinkywritings hi darling I was your assigned Ghost Writer for the @atinyhalloweenproject. This is my first time writing for San and I had a lot of fun with it so I hope you enjoy it! Sorry it is so late I wanted to have it out by Halloween but due to the sudden weather change we haven't had power. I tried to make it longer to make up for that so hopefully it doesn't feel rushed and was worth the wait!
I honestly may do a part two to this or an expansion later on because I love the idea of Jigsaw San but we'll see.

“Police officials are seeking any leads in identifying the man known only to the public as the Jigsaw killer. He is believed to be linked in multiple disappearances and murders that have taken place around Seoul for the past three months. The victims were all found in various handmade traps and had a puzzle piece drawn somewhere visible on their body. At this time investigators have no leads and are asking the public for any knowledge they may have on this public threat.”
The reporter's voice faded to nothing as the volume on the TV was lowered to zero. You groaned softly to yourself as you tossed the remote to the side, running your hands through your hair as you sat forward on your couch. It had been just over a month since you were assigned the Jigsaw murder case, the last detective backing out after the man in question threatened to target his family. The case was quickly transferred over to you, one of the best detectives in your field, but it was very quickly starting to test your patience.
Whoever this Jigsaw was, he was a clever man. He left no trace, no evidence, nothing that would allow you to track him down. You went through surveillance, interviewed the family and friends of the victims, tried breaking down his traps for any clues, but any lead always led you right back to square one. You had tried to be patient, hoping that eventually he would slip up and give you something, but it was starting to sound like wishful thinking. Even worse, he knew who you were and started calling you out directly. You would find notes addressed to you, pictures, voice messages, all calling you out and taunting you. It was like he was playing some cruel game with you and you had no choice but to play along or risk losing everything. You couldn’t even walk to work anymore without some reporter chasing you down demanding an explanation or any evidence you had in the case. It came to a point where you only went to the office when called, and the rest of your work you did from home.
Various evidence pictures and case files were thrown across your coffee table, a few rough notes scribbled in between. You had been looking at the same files for the past couple of hours, dissecting every last word to see if you had missed any connections. Your last victim had been found 72 hours ago, and you knew you only had a day at most before the next one. There were a few things you had discovered about Jigsaw, and the main one was that he worked on a schedule. Once someone was reported missing, it would be three days before their body turned up and the cycle would start again. Whoever this man was, he clearly enjoyed his patterns, and that is what you found yourself looking for, any pattern you may have missed.
“Working from home again I see?” you practically jumped out of your skin as you heard the deep voice of your roommate behind you, turning around to see his tall frame leaning over the couch.
“For Fucks sake Mingi you almost gave me a heart attack!” you whined, reaching up to lightly smack at him, “what are you doing here anyways I thought you weren’t coming home tonight.” You and Mingi had been friends for as long as you could remember, having met back in high school and staying together through college and your time at the police academy. He was like a brother to you at this point and you trusted him so you didn’t mind if he saw your work, even if he technically wasn’t supposed to. Mingi always found your work to be fascinating and would bug you randomly about cases, which only grew more when you started investigating Jigsaw, though you assumed it was just because you got to bring your work home now. Just as you predicted, he made his way to the other side of the couch and took a seat next to you, picking up one of the crime scene photos to get a better look.
“I was going to stay at Yunhos tonight but something came up and he had to cancel,” Mingi explained, running his thumb over the picture he was holding, “ouch this looks like it would have been painful, what is it?”
“That’s one of Jigsaw's latest traps,” you answered, snatching the photo away from him, “I’m looking through it to see if I can find any missing clues.”
“Have you found anything?”
“Sadly no, he’s very good at covering his tracks. It’s been a month and we still don’t have any leads on this guy, it’s like he’s a ghost or something.” Mingi hummed softly as he continued to look through all the pictures, careful not to mess them up knowing you would yell at him if he did.
“Now I’m no expert but, are you sure you’re only looking for one person?” he asked, catching you off guard.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean all these crime scenes you’ve shown me have been pretty big and this says it only took three days, seems like a lot of work for one person if you ask me.” Mingi explained, “and that’s why your patterns wouldn’t line up like you want them to.” You blinked up at him dumbly for a moment as you processed his words, looking back down at the file you had basically memorized by this point. You didn’t want to admit it, but Mingi had a point.
“You know that’s actually not a bad idea,” you muttered.
“I can be helpful sometimes you know,” he bragged with a laugh, earning himself a punch to the shoulder. He didn’t have time to retaliate though as you were packing up all of your things and rushing towards the door, “Wait where are you going?”
“I need to check on something, don’t wait up for me!” you called back, pulling on your coat and running out the door as he called after you. In your rush you hadn’t realized that you dropped part of your case file on your way out, nor did you notice Mingi pulling out his phone to call someone as he closed the door to your apartment.
ღ ღ ღ ღ ღ
You made it to the crime scene in no time, an abandoned warehouse located just on the edge of the city. You parked your car a bit away and pulled out a flashlight as you made your way inside, ducking under the caution tape and pulling your jacket closer to yourself as you looked around. The clean up crew had gotten most of the scene cleaned by now, but the trap itself was still there. A weirdly broken mess of chains and blades that you wouldn’t have been able to put back together if you wanted to, making you wonder how Jigsaw even came up with the idea in the first place. You shook the thought out of your head and made your way to one of the blades, leaning down to inspect it carefully. It was sharp with a curve to it, but almost messy in design as if it was handmade. To test that theory you took a look at another one and noticed the same thing except this one was thicker and less curved despite being set up the same way. The chains themselves were also a bit sloppy when you looked at them closely, almost as if they had been done in a rush. It wasn’t as clean as Jigsaw's normal work, and now Mingis suggestion that you were dealing with more than one culprit seemed more plausible.
You took your phone out to snap a picture just as the door to the warehouse opened, a new light pouring in and a familiar voice calling your name.
“Over here!” you called back, flashing your light in his direction so he could see you. Quick footsteps made their way towards you before a familiar figure came into view. Park Seonghwa, a senior detective that had transferred over to your department a little over a year ago and assigned as your partner. You had been against the idea at first since your original partner had been killed only a few weeks prior during an investigation gone wrong. The chief had insisted it would be for the best though since you needed the help and Seonghwas cool and more collected nature would balance you out nicely which would prove to be true. Your impulsiveness had driven the older detective crazy a few times, but for the most part the two of you got along well and you could even consider him a friend. He was wearing a long black coat and matching gloves and his hair was long and falling into his face rather than slicked up like normal, probably because he had been at home resting when you called him.
“Would you care to explain why you called me out here in the middle of the night when I haven’t heard from you in the last 48 hours?” Seonghwa questioned, unable to hide the annoyance in his tone.
“I’ll make it up to you but I figured this couldn’t wait,” you muttered, going back to inspect the chain again, “I’m trying to prove a theory about something.”
“That theory being?”
“What if Jigsaw isn't working alone?” you challenged, “what if it’s more than one person, that would explain why nothing lines up.” Seonghwas eyes widened a bit and you could have sworn you heard him mutter something under his breath, “what did you say?”
“Oh nothing,” he brushed you off, “what made you so convinced of this new theory? Did you find something?” You froze for a second, not wanting to expose yourself for letting a member of the general public view the case file.
“Just a hunch,” you lied, “but I mean look at the way this trap was built, it's messy compared to the others, almost as if it was made by someone else.”
“Or maybe Jigsaw just ran out of time and rushed on it,” he argued.
“Can you just humor me for five seconds Seonghwa,” you groaned, “maybe I’m wrong yes but isn’t it at least worth looking into?” Seonghwa rolled his eyes but gave in, walking to the other side of the trap to get a better look. You were too distracted by your own work to pay much attention to him, meticulously looking through every detail of the trap despite not actually knowing what you were looking for. Your instinct was telling you that there was something there you were overlooking, something that was hiding in plain sight, you just had to figure out what that was.
“Hey Y/N,” Seonghwa called out after a few minutes, “I think I found something.” Your head shot up and you quickly dusted yourself off before making your way over. Seonghwa was standing in the corner of the warehouse holding what looked to be a tape recorder. “I found it tucked away over here, may have gotten knocked around during the investigation,” he explained.
“Does it say anything?” you asked, taking the recorder from his hands and pressing the play button. There was only static for a moment before a robotic voice spoke up, like someone was speaking through a voice changer. Despite that, you couldn’t help but feel like the voice seemed familiar to you, but it was hard to tell through the editing.
“Hello Detective Y/L/N,” the tape addressed you, sending a chill through your body, “these past few weeks you have been running around in circles trying to discover who I am. You have been closer to the truth than you realize but you always end up blindsided by your work and, as a result, you overlook the answer that is right in front of you. I have enjoyed silently watching you up until this point but now it is getting quite boring so why don’t we make this a bit more fun? Do you like games, detective? I hope you do because I want to play a game with you. I have left a riddle for you, the answer to which will tell you all you need to know about who I am and what I do. You have 48 hours to find the riddle and tell me the answer or you will find yourself and those closest to you in a very undesirable situation. The timer starts the second this recording ends, let’s hope you are as clever as everyone says you are. Let the game begin.”
You felt your blood run cold as the tape came to an end, barely registering Seonghwas hand on your shoulder as you tried to process everything you just heard. Seonghwa tried talking to you but you ignored him, pushing his hand off and rushing back to your car, your partner not far behind you.
“Where are you going? We should report this to the office first!” he called after you.
“What good is reporting it going to do? You heard him Hwa I have 48 hours to figure out who this guy is or we’re all screwed, I can’t waste time.”
“So what you’re going to rush into something and get yourself killed?” he argued.
“Better than doing nothing and getting everyone else killed,” you snapped back, “now if you’ll excuse me, I need to find this riddle he’s talking about.” Seonghwa called after you again but by this point you had gotten in your car and were already making your way back to your apartment. Part of you felt like going home was a bad idea, but you also couldn’t help but feel like something was pulling you to go there. The same feeling of familiarity that you got hearing the tape returned, making you feel more and more uneasy as you pulled into your apartment complex. Like you knew who Jigsaw was and yet the image of his face was blurred any time you tried to imagine him.
Mingi didn’t seem to be home when you got back, his shoes were gone and the light was off. You couldn’t focus on that though, as your attention was drawn to the stack of papers placed neatly on your coffee table. You carefully walked over and looked through the pile, recognizing pictures from all the different crime scenes you had investigated so far, each one marked with red ink.
‘Y/N, doesn’t this random pattern seem a bit too random?’
‘This is quite close to home don’t you think?’
‘The truth has been in front of you the whole time.’
‘Why do I do what I do?’
‘Did you miss me?’
You ran your hand through your hair as you continued looking through the pictures, realizing that the riddle was basically going to send you on a scavenger hunt. It would take forever for you to go back through each crime scene and look back through everything to find out what he was talking about. Even worse, it was pretty late and you could feel exhaustion slowly taking over you, slouching over the coffee table and eventually laying against it as you fell asleep trying to decipher the riddle.
You were jolted awake by the sound of your phone vibrating, groaning softly as you sat up and reached into your pocket for the device. You half expected it to be a call from Mingi or Seonghwa, but instead you were greeted with the same robotic voice from the night before. Only this time, you were able to hear his actual voice a bit more and it was one you swore you had heard before.
“Good morning Sleeping Beauty, I hope my riddle didn’t keep you up all night,” the voice immediately woke you up, straightening your posture as you looked around.
“Who is this?” you asked.
“Aww I’m almost offended you don’t remember me, we go way back you know,” the voice responded, “I’ve missed you Y/N, and even if you don’t remember me now I know you miss me too.” You paused for a moment at his words before realizing now was not the time to worry about that.
“Why are you doing this?”
“That. my dear detective is for you to find out, you always did enjoy the thrill of a good challenge didn’t you? I figured you would have solved my puzzle by now but since I believe in giving people a fair chance I’ll give you another clue. One of those puzzle pieces doesn’t quite belong, once you find the answer I will be waiting for you in the place we last met, don’t keep me waiting Doll.” With that the call ended, causing you to groan in frustration and toss your phone to the side.
“I’ve had about enough of these damn games,” you huffed, rubbing your hands over your eyes. You looked through the pictures again before one in particular caught your eye. It wasn’t one of the Jigsaw crime scenes, but instead it was a picture of an older house, one that you recognized from your last murder investigation with your old partner, San. The memories slowly came back to you and that’s when it finally clicked for you, the puzzle and the reason the voice sounded so familiar to you. That was impossible though, San was dead, you had been at the hospital with him when the doctors told you there was nothing they could do. There was no way that San was still alive, and yet you would recognize his voice anywhere. Shaking your head, you grabbed your phone and stood up, calling Seonghwa and telling him to meet you at the house in question as you left your apartment and got in your car. The whole ride there you tried ignoring the feeling of dread that came over you, hoping that your intuition was wrong.
ღ ღ ღ ღ ღ
Seonghwa was already at the house before you got there, leaning against the wall with a blank expression. “I take it you found the answer to your riddle?” he asked as you walked past him, leading him inside.
“As much as I hope I am wrong I think I did,” you confessed, “and if I’m right the clue we are looking for should be here somewhere.” Seonghwa stood still in the middle of the room as you frantically looked around, digging through his pocket and following your movements with his eyes.
“This isn’t one of the crime scenes,” he pointed out, “what exactly are we looking for?”
“Jigsaw said to find him at the place we last met and this place was the only one pictured that wasn’t one of the crime scenes,” you explained. Seonghwa hummed softly at your answer, but you ignored him as you continued looking around.
“Why here then, what’s so special about this place?” you froze for a moment at the question, an action that didn’t go unnoticed.
“This was the last place I investigated with my first partner,” you answered, “he was shot during the investigation and I thought he was dead but I’m starting to think I was wrong.”
“You think it’s him,” Seonghwa stated rather than asked, to which you nodded.
“I don’t know why he would do such a thing, but it all lines up.” Seonghwa sighed and glanced down at his watch before making his way towards you.
“I’m surprised you know, you solved the riddle faster than we thought you would, we’re a bit ahead of schedule.” His words made your blood run cold, freezing as your head turned to look at him.
“What did you just say?”
“I’m sorry about this Y/N,” Seonghwa apologized, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a syringe, “just know I don’t make the rules, I’m just the delivery guy.” Before you could react to his words he had grabbed you and injected you with what you assumed was some kind of anesthesia, your body going limp in his hold almost immediately and your vision going black. The last thing you remember hearing was his voice and footsteps approaching before you completely lost consciousness.
When you returned to consciousness the first thing that you noticed was that you couldn’t move. Your arms and legs were handcuffed to a chair that also appeared to be bolted to the floor so you couldn’t tip it over. Tugging at your restraints, you glanced around to find that you were in some sort of workshop, various trap parts and gadgets tossed around multiple workbenches. At the front of the room were what appeared to be security monitors, each watching different parts of the city that you could just barely make out.
“I have to hand it to you Y/N,” a voice said from behind you, “the last detective didn’t make it nearly as far.” The sound of footsteps echoed through the room before a figure appeared in your vision, wearing a full body red and black hood. Even though his face was covered by the hood, you could feel the presence of your former partner.
“How, I thought you were dead,” you whispered, not sure what to feel at the moment. In any other circumstance you would be over the moon to know he was alive, but how were you supposed to feel knowing he was the serial killer you had been anxiously tracking down. Shock, betrayal, anger, sadness, confusion, all of these emotions swirled through your brain like an endless whirlpool, pulling you in deeper and nearly bringing tears to your eyes.
“Everyone did,” San replied, turning away from you to face one of his work benches, “the doctors said it was a miracle, that no one thought I would make it through the night let alone make a full recovery.” You could hear him messing with something, but couldn’t see what it was, struggling to look past his shoulder as he continued talking, “I tried to find you after you know? I thought you were the only one left that cared about me, and yet even you managed to turn your back on me.”
“I always cared about you,” you argued, “that’s why I’m trying to understand why San, why did you do this?” It was at this point that he finally turned to face you, pulling the hood back so you could see him properly. He looked almost the same as you remembered, but there was a cold gaze in his eyes that almost made him feel like a stranger. This wasn’t the warm hearted and cheerful person you used to consider a friend, he was a killer. Despite this, however, you couldn’t help yourself from falling for his familiarity, almost as if you could convince yourself the old San was still in there, somewhere.
“You never realize just how valuable life is until you are inches away from death,” he explained, “the adrenaline and the fight to survive, it almost feels like you are being reborn. The more I thought about it, the more I realized how corrupt the world we live in truly is, because no one really knows how to appreciate the life they are given until it is nearly taken from them. You may not understand it now but trust me my methods will help make the world a better place.”
“You’re killing people because you want them to appreciate life?” you questioned, wondering if he was actually being serious. There was no way a person's mind could be that twisted, right?
“You think I’m a killer?” San asked, not needing a verbal response since your glare was enough confirmation, “that’s where you’re wrong you know. I have not killed anyone, all of my games are survivable as long as the player has the will to fight for it. Those who failed the games basically killed themselves.” You wanted to argue that putting people in these death traps still made him a killer but he cut you off, “Seven people have won so far, seven people who had that will to live and had the chance to be reborn. They understand what it truly means to be alive and now they help me spread my message. You may not understand me now, but I really do hope that you will be the next.”
“So what, am I the next person that gets to be put in one of your death traps then?” you groaned, tugging at your restraints. San pouted a bit but shook his head.
“Your game began the minute you took the case from Detective Kim,” he explained, “you and I always seemed to have an understanding so I had hoped you would pick up on my clues and join without a fight, but you were far too stubborn to listen. Eventually I had to cut my losses so I had my apprentices plant fake evidence to finally get you here, it was the only way.” Your heart dropped a bit at the word apprentices, your mind immediately going back to Seonghwa and how he was the one who brought you here.
“So you’re telling me the whole time,” you trailed off.
“Seonghwa was working for me, yes, Mingi as well, they both survived my games and agreed to help with the cause and when you took over my case I knew I could use them to guide you in the right direction,” San explained. He took a moment to glance at a clock on the wall before sighing and making his way over to you. San rested his hands on the arms of the chair and used them to prop himself up so he was leaning over you, “As much as I have enjoyed our little chat I’m afraid we do not have much time. I really do like you Y/N so I will give you a choice. Join me and together we can help change the world for the better.”
“And if I refuse?” you challenged.
“Well then I guess we’ll have to play a game,” he hummed, leaning away from you, “The second I walk out of this room it will lock and a timer will start. Behind you are two doors, each with a different combination, one door will lead you to the exit, and the other will lead you to me. If you choose to leave then you will be free but you will lose your chance to catch me. If you choose to come after me, then you have a chance to learn the truth at the risk of your freedom. The combinations are hidden in this room and you will have exactly one hour to find them and leave through the door of your choosing, and trust me you don’t want to know what will happen if you run out of time.” San chuckled softly before pulling away and walking behind you, “This is your last chance to accept my offer Y/N, I would hate to lose you like this.” He waited for a moment but when you didn’t respond he sighed, “Very well, let the game begin.” You felt him place something into your hand, which you quickly realized was a key, before the door slammed shut and San was gone.
ღ ღ ღ ღ ღ
It didn’t take you long to unlock yourself, taking a second to rub your wrists as you stood up and made your way cautiously around the room. You did your best to stay calm and not look at the clock as you examined the doors and then looked around for the combinations, which you quickly realized were hidden on his tools. The question was, do you free yourself and turn your back on the case, or do you risk it all and try to go after San. The rational part of your brain was screaming at you to just get out of there and not look back, and yet you quickly found yourself moving on autopilot. Before you could really process what you were doing, you had entered the code for the door labeled “Truth” and ran through it, stepping into a dark hallway and letting the door lock behind you.
You took a moment to compose yourself before heading forward, placing your hands against the walls to help feel your way through the space. All the doors were locked until you came to one at the very end that was cracked open, revealing what looked to be a makeshift office space, with nothing but a desk and filing cabinet in the room. You poked your head through first, looking around for any sign of life before slowly stepping inside and making your way to the desk, only to gasp as you felt another body pin you to it.
“I knew you would come after me,” San whispered, spinning you around so that you were facing him. Your body was pressed between his and the desk, his arms caging you on either side as your eyes locked.
“I can’t let you get away with this,” you argued, trying to wiggle away from him but San was stronger so he held you in place.
“Come on Doll, you and I both know that’s not why you came after me,” he teased, “maybe it was at first but if that was the case now you would be fighting me harder.” He was right, even if he was stronger you knew you could at least hold your own enough to get him away or subdue him long enough to call for help. Yet you couldn’t bring yourself to actually fight him off, struggling against him enough to save your pride but not enough to actually push him off. “So tell me,” San continued, “why did you really come after me, was it because you were curious about my work? Or, was it because deep down you missed me?” Honestly, you weren’t even sure if you knew the answer, your body having reacted before your mind could catch up.
“This isn’t right,” you argued, reaching your hands up to push at his shoulders.
“And yet here we are,” he teased, backing up enough to wrap his arms around you and pull you closer to him. Your bodies pressed together and your arms instinctually made their way around his neck which made him chuckle. “I always knew you were special, you understood me in a way that no one else ever did. Stay with me, nothing will be able to come between us.” San leaned down until your lips were centimeters apart, his breath tickling your lips with every word. You tried not to give into him, knowing that this was wrong, but you also couldn’t deny the thrill that ran through you just from being near him. You had always cared for San when you two were partners, hell there was even a time where you could argue that you did have a crush on him. That was back then however, when he was the sweet and easy going detective that decorated his desk with mini plushies and would whine if you forgot to get him a pastry on your morning coffee runs. This version of San wasn’t like that, even if the allure was still there, he was cold, twisted, and a killer.
“I can’t do this,” you argued, “you’re not the man I once cared about.” You tried to turn your head away from him, but he gripped your chin to force you to look at him.
“Yes I am, behind all of this it is still me and I can prove that to you,” he whispered, “just let me show you.” When you shook your head again he huffed, loosening his grip for a moment before it tightened again, “Fine then, how about another game?”
“I already won your stupid game though!” you challenged.
“Yet you still haven’t learned,” he fought back, “the least you can do is give me a chance to convince you. If you don’t give in then I will go with you to the station and turn myself in, but if I win then you quit being a detective for good and you stay with me.” You gave him a questioning look, at this point more than positive that he had gone insane. However, if playing his dumb games meant putting an end to Jigsaw, then you were more than willing to oblige.
“Alright fine, deal,” you reluctantly agreed. You only had a moment to register Sans smirk before he was pulling you against him again and connecting your lips. One hand stayed pressed against your back to keep you against him, while the other tangled itself in your hair, tugging slightly to get a reaction out of you. The kiss wasn’t rough or forced like you had expected, instead it was gentle and passionate, like he wanted to take his time with you. His lips were surprisingly soft against yours, and you began to slowly melt against his movements. You kissed him back and allowed him to have more control, whining softly against his lips when he tugged a bit harder at your hair. Your own hands trailed down his body, tracing his shoulders and chest for a few moments before daring to go a bit lower. San groaned as he felt you palm him over his robe, tightening his grip on your hair and deepening the kiss as his own hand reached down to grab at your thighs and your ass.
All your resolve melted away at his touch and you found yourself giving into him completely, relishing in the way he invaded your senses. All rationality had left completely, replaced with an unusual desire as San explored your body. As desperate as he was, his touches remained soft and left you craving more whenever he pulled his hand away. San walked you back until you reached the desk, lifting you up enough to sit you on top of it and slotting himself between your thighs as he finally pulled away. You only had a second to catch your breath before you were pushed back slightly and pinned down by your hands. San hovered above you with a knowing smirk, taking a moment to enjoy your flustered expression before leaning down to whisper directly in your ear.
“Looks like I won. Game Over!”

〚 Hanahaki Disease 〛
— An illness born from unrequited love, where the patient’s throat will fill with flowers. They will then throw and cough up the petals, sometimes even a whole flower.
— One of the only ways for the disease to ‘disappear’ is if the object of the patient's affection returns the feelings. It cannot be resolved with friendship, it has to be genuine feelings of romantic love.
— The infection can also be removed through surgery, though the feelings will disappear along with the petals.
If the patient refuses surgery or the feelings are not returned in time, their lungs will fill up with flowers and eventually suffocate.
Time sure as hell flies even when you're suffering.
Because the next thing you know, it's been years since you were diagnosed with the Hanahaki disease.
Gazing down at the bloody petals staining your palm, you swallowed painfully, determined to wash away the evidence of your illness in the bathroom and not let anyone find out.
Especially not when Yeosang and his girlfriend, Arin, were waiting patiently outside at the cafe for you. With your eyes squeezed shut, you pressed your hands against your temples, once again reminded of the cruel reality that the love of your life did not feel the same way for you.
It all began about a decade ago.
Initially, you and Yeosang were just new neighbours, brought together when your family relocated to Seoul due to your father's job. Later, you discovered that you attended the same school, and Yeosang, ever the kind soul, became your first friend.
You have been inseparable since childhood, sharing secrets, dreams, and countless adventures together.
But as the years passed, your affection for him slowly blossomed into something deeper, something you kept hidden, fearing it would taint your beautiful friendship.
Upon the realisation of your feelings for him, you had been hopeful at first. All the while, you'd think to yourself that he would one day return your feelings and you would eventually end up together. But you couldn't deny the bitter truth any longer when you began coughing up those crimson-tinged petals.
The doctor's grim confirmation, coupled with Yeosang's excited announcement about mustering the courage to ask Arin out, served as clear answers to all the questions that had plagued your mind.
Witnessing his overwhelming happiness when Arin agreed to be his girlfriend, you couldn't bear to shatter that joy for him. Above all else, you'd rather face death than jeopardise your cherished friendship by revealing your feelings or the devastating truth of your disease.
For as long as you can remember, the pain of coughing up these petals has become your painful secret, something you've grown used to enduring in silence by now.
Come on, you can do this.
You made a determined effort to steady your trembling hands as you reapplied your makeup, doing your absolute best to conceal any trace of paleness or sickness on your face.
The last thing you wanted was for Yeosang, or perhaps even Arin, to detect any hint of your sickness. Over all these years, you had successfully fooled everyone, including your own parents, and you were set in your commitment to maintain that facade.
You were fully prepared to carry your secret to the grave, if it ever came to that.
"Is it just me, or do you seem to be taking longer in the bathroom these days?" Yeosang wondered aloud, deep in thought. You froze, carefully controlling your expression to avoid raising further suspicion.
Arin nodded in agreement before the two of them playfully exchanged grins in your direction, "You know, you can always tell us if you've been busy chatting with Jongho. There's no need to hide in the bathroom for that—we'd understand."
Your shoulders slumped in relief and you rolled your eyes when you realised they were simply teasing you about your colleague once again, "Honestly, how many times do I have to tell you idiots that there's absolutely nothing going on between me and the guy?"
Yeosang couldn't help but snort rather ungracefully as he took a sip of his drink, "Sure, you might think that, but Jongho's not exactly subtle. I'm telling you, the dude's totally whipped for you."
Good god, I sure as hell hope not.
If that truly were the case, you knew you'd have to put a swift end to it before it spiralled out of control. The last thing you wanted was for Jongho to suffer the same fate as you, he was too kind a soul to deserve such torture.
However, deep down, you were convinced that Jongho was simply an exceptionally friendly person. You didn't think he acted any differently towards you compared to other people at work. At this point, it just seemed more like Yeosang and Arin's attempt to get you out of your neverending cycle of singlehood.
The couple had been pestering you for years to find a boyfriend. This wasn't the first time they'd jumped to such hasty conclusions. It seemed that every time they noticed a guy being a tad more attentive or friendly, they instantly started shipping you with him.
In fact, if your memory served you correctly, Jongho was already taken and entirely off the market.
"Don't be ridiculous, Yeo. He's got a girlfriend."
Yeosang nearly choked on his drink upon hearing this revelation, "Wait- what?! Okay, that's a major red flag then. Why on earth is he being so attentive to you, huh?"
You rolled your eyes, slapping your palm against your forehead, "I've told you, he's just naturally nice to everyone. You two are the ones always reading too much into things."
Arin pouted at you, "Oh man, I was really hoping we had some sort of magical persuasion power to turn nothing into something!" You glared at the both of them, watching as they sheepishly rubbed their necks.
Their attempts at humour fell flat.
"I knew it. I always thought it was strange how you two were so insistent about there being something between me and Jongho."
The lighthearted banter continued for a while longer, with your friends enthusiastically brainstorming potential matches and suggesting other guys they could introduce you to.
Casting a swift glance at her phone, Arin perked up with excitement, "Oh, I've got to run, my friends just arrived! It's girls' night, so don't wait up for me, Yeo. I'll catch you two later!" You smiled warmly at your friend's girlfriend, giving a slight wave before discreetly looking away as the couple shared a quick kiss, "Sure thing, babe. Call me if you need anything, yeah?"
"Bye, Arin. Have fun, and I'll see you soon!" You concealed the ache in your heart behind a radiant smile.
The truth was, Yeosang's girlfriend was an absolute sweetheart, and you could completely understand why he had fallen for her.
As much as it pained you to admit, they were a perfect couple. This was precisely what made the situation so bittersweet—witnessing their happiness together was painful, yet you couldn't muster any ill feelings towards Arin.
It was an agonisingly cruel paradox.
She had, in some ways, become like a sister to you, and you genuinely wanted to be happy for the two of them. But the clash between your feelings for Yeosang and the incessant pain in your chest, caused by the growing flowers, made it exceptionally difficult.
You could only watch with a heavy heart as Yeosang escorted his girlfriend out of the cafe and witnessed their affectionate farewell, complete with another parting kiss.
Upon returning to his seat across from you, he did a rather poor job of concealing his bubbling excitement. An internal sigh escaped you as you yearned for him to exhibit such enthusiasm when thinking about you.
"So, what is it?" You asked, watching as Yeosang arched an eyebrow, a curious expression on his face, "What do you mean?"
You crossed your arms, your tone laced with a hint of impatience, "You obviously brought me out today to discuss something, and given that you didn't bring it up in front of Arin, I'm assuming it's related to her. Now that she's gone, spill the beans."
He nodded slowly, somewhat impressed.
"You really are my oldest friend; you know me so well," He said theatrically, wiping away a fake tear. You smacked his arm, annoyed, "Can you please just get to the point already?"
It wasn't your intention to become so exasperated with him, but the ache in your chest was intensifying, and you worried that it wouldn't be long before you'd have to excuse yourself to cough up more petals. You were just determined not to raise suspicion.
You also couldn't quite pinpoint the reason, but a sense of dread was slowly creeping over you as you waited for him to reveal whatever it was he wanted to say.
He chuckled, raising his hands in surrender, "Alright, alright." He conceded. With a mischievous smile, he bit down on his lip.
"I'm planning to propose to Arin, and I need your help."
Fighting back the urge to clutch your chest in agony, you forced a smile, determined not to let the pain show on your face. Your hands rested on your thigh, and your fingers dug into your jeans with such intensity that you worried about tearing the fabric.
"Oh my god, I... God, I'm so happy for you, Yeo!"
Tears welled up in your eyes, and your friend cooed at your emotional reaction, believing it was a sign of your genuine happiness. Little did he know, your tears were for entirely different reasons than he might think.
"Will you marry me?"
Those were words that had only existed in the realm of your dreams, words you knew you'd never hear spoken to you by this man.
It was with a heavy heart that you stood on the sidelines, an invisible spectator, as Yeosang took the plunge and proposed to Arin. A shuddering exhale escaped your lips, your breath trembling as you watched her joyful and resolute nod.
"Yes, yes! A thousand times, yes!"
Your chest ached, and you struggled to suppress the tears that threatened to spill from your eyes. The pain was excruciating, akin to a thousand needles piercing your heart, yet you forced yourself to smile, to be genuinely happy for the two people who meant the world to you.
As Yeosang slipped the ring onto Arin's finger, sealing their love with a promise of forever, you wrestled with your own emotions.
Your heartbreak was palpable, like a storm raging within you, but you couldn't let it mar the joyous occasion. You had to be the friend they deserved, the one who would celebrate their love with an open heart.
So, you smiled through the tears, tears that were not just a testament to your pain but also a tribute to their happiness. It was a complex dance of emotions—your own heartbreak twirling with the happiness you felt for them, a delicate balance that you had learned to navigate over the years.
And at that moment, as you watched them embrace, you couldn't help but wonder if love, even unrequited, had a purpose beyond our comprehension—a purpose that allowed you to witness the beauty of their union, even if it came at the cost of your own silent suffering.
Why am I so bothered? It's not like I ever stood a chance.
You stepped away from the scene, needing a moment to collect yourself. As you wiped away the tears that had welled up, you noticed Wooyoung approaching. He had been Yeosang's closest friend throughout your school years, and over time, he had become a good friend of yours as well.
"Hey, you good? Not gonna lie, you looked a little sick back there." He said, concern etched in his expression.
Panicking, you forced a wide smile, "Oh, I'm fine! I was just really touched. I mean, can you believe they're finally getting married? They've been together for so long. It's about damn time, am I right?"
But Wooyoung didn't seem convinced by the act.
He could see right through your facade, noticing your paleness and the handkerchief you clutched so tightly, not for tears, but for a certain type of bloodied flower petals.
"You know, I had my suspicions back in high school, but I didn't want to say anything for Arin's sake. But I'm worried about you," He said hesitantly, "You... you're in love with him, aren't you?"
You struggled to maintain your composure, choosing to act as if you didn't understand what he was getting at. The last thing you wanted was to have this conversation at such a momentous event. But you also understood that Wooyoung was genuinely concerned for your well-being.
"That's absurd, Woo! Are you even listening to yourself?" You let out a forced laugh, playfully slapping his shoulder repeatedly, "Me? In love with Kang Yeosang? How could you even think to suggest such a thing? Ew!" You pretended to gag.
"Seriously though, I'm fine. It's probably just that time of the month for me, okay? Ugh, I can't believe you made me admit that. If I looked sick, it's probably because I'm losing blood down there, ya know?"
Wooyoung cleared his throat, clearly flustered by the unexpected turn in your conversation, "Sheesh, too much information, woman! Fine, I'll choose to believe you... for now. You know you can always talk to me, right? You're one of my closest friends, aside from Yeo. If you ever need anything, I'm here."
You nodded and forced a smile, struggling to blink back your tears and swallow the lump in your throat.
No one had been aware of your condition all this while, and Wooyoung's concern meant more to you than he could ever know. However, you couldn't bring yourself to admit it to him. That would make everything too real, and you weren't ready to face that truth just yet.
Truth be told, Wooyoung didn't buy your reasoning.
He had accepted it more out of reluctance to press further and make you feel uncomfortable. He understood that there was no use in forcing the truth out of you; he could only wait for the moment when you'd choose to confide in him about your predicament.
For the time being, all he wanted was for you to know that he would always be there for you.
Having personally witnessed the devastating effects of the Hanahaki disease on someone he cared about in the past, Wooyoung was determined to do whatever it took to prevent another loved one from falling victim to this illness.
And so, for the rest of the day, you made an extra effort to conceal any urges to cough or throw up, especially now that Wooyoung was keeping a watchful eye on you, searching for any signs or hoping to catch you slipping up.
You jumped slightly in surprise when Yeosang wrapped his arms around your shoulders, pulling you into a warm hug, "Thank you so much for your help, bestie! This wouldn't have been possible without you."
The word 'bestie' pierced your heart like a dagger because that was all you would ever be to Kang Yeosang.
Sensing Wooyoung's scrutiny from behind as he conversed with some of your other friends, you swallowed hard and nodded, patting Yeosang on the back.
"Of course, Yeo. Anything for you and Arin. I genuinely wish you both all the happiness in the world!"
He laughed with uncontainable excitement, squeezing you in his embrace.
Your heart fluttered at the gesture, but you forced yourself to keep it in check. You had to come to terms with the fact that Yeosang and Arin were now officially endgame, their love story reaching its long-awaited conclusion. You reminded yourself that you had never really stood a chance in the first place.
Giving him one final reassuring pat on the back, you sniffled lightly and pulled away, replacing any trace of emotion with a wide smile as you spotted Arin approaching.
She enveloped you in a tight embrace, squeezing with genuine warmth, "You're the absolute best! I heard you played a huge part in all of this. You'll be right there with us every step of the way until the big day, won't you?"
You nodded without hesitation, "Of course! Every detail will be flawless, I promise you. Nothing will slip through the cracks on my watch!"
A frown and a warning glare were swiftly aimed in Wooyoung's direction when you caught him pretending to gag behind Arin's back at your feigned enthusiasm.
Turning your attention back to Arin, you allowed her to take your hands in hers. Her eyes held a sincerity that touched your heart.
"I've been wanting to ask you this ever since Yeo mentioned our wedding plans. Will you be my maid of honour? Woo's already agreed to be his best man, and it would mean the world to me if you said yes. You're like a sister to me, you know that, right?"
What kind of heartless monster would I have to be to even consider turning down such a heartfelt request?
You squeezed her hands with genuine sincerity, your voice filled with warmth, "Are you kidding? I'd be more than honoured to be your maid of honour! Thank you for asking me; it means the world," Arin cooed, pulling you into another tight embrace, "Aww, I love you, you're the best!"
You smiled, brushing aside the growing pain in your chest, "I love you too, Arin. I want you to know that you're like a sister to me, too."
That night, when you returned home, it marked one of the most agonising nights you would have to endure since your diagnosis.
Your hands trembled uncontrollably as you stared at the sight of an entire flower in your sink. Until then, it had always been just petals, but seeing a whole flower emerging was an ominous sign.
You knew that time was running out, and the thought sent a shiver down your spine.
As promised, you dedicated most of your time to assisting the couple with every aspect of their wedding preparations.
A tiny voice within you questioned why you had willingly subjected yourself to this emotional turmoil, but the sincerity of Arin choosing you, of all people, as her maid of honour touched your heart deeply.
The soft glow of the bridal boutique enveloped the room, casting a warm and inviting ambience. Mirrors lined the walls, reflecting the ethereal beauty of the gowns that hung delicately from their racks. The air was infused with a faint scent of fresh fabric and the promise of new beginnings.
As you stood amidst this sanctuary of matrimonial dreams, your heart ached with the weight of hidden thorns, a cruel reminder of your unrequited love. The Hanahaki disease had woven its cruel tendrils deep within, its blossoms a vivid contrast to the joyous occasion at hand.
Arin, radiant as ever, was surrounded by a small entourage of close friends and family.
Her eyes sparkled with anticipation, her smile infectious as she perused the array of wedding gowns. Her laughter filled the air, a musical backdrop to the scene, and her infectious excitement seemed to dance on the very air you breathed.
You watched her, your heart pounding with each beat, every throb echoing the ache of concealed emotions. The delicate petals seemed to flutter within you, a silent reminder of the love that could never be.
Arin's fingers delicately traced the lace of one gown, her eyes wide with wonder, "This is beautiful." She breathed, her voice a tender whisper of admiration.
The boutique assistant, an expert in the language of bridal dreams, nodded in agreement, "It complements your grace perfectly, Ms. Choi. Would you like to try it on?"
Her gaze met yours in silent invitation.
You couldn't refuse, not when this was her moment of unparalleled happiness, "Yes, go ahead, Arin." You encouraged, your voice steady despite the storm raging within.
As she disappeared behind the curtain, you took a moment to gather your composure. The mirrors seemed to multiply your reflection, each one a reminder of the fractured reality you faced.
When the curtain swayed open once more, Arin emerged in a vision of pure elegance. The gown cascaded around her like a waterfall of silk and lace, framing her like a masterpiece. Her eyes met yours in the mirror's reflection, and the brilliance in her gaze was enough to momentarily eclipse your own pain.
A chorus of gasps and exclamations filled the room as the entourage marvelled at the sight. Tears glistened in Arin's eyes, the reflection of her joy painting a poignant picture.
She was breathtakingly beautiful.
Perfect for Yeosang.
Unlike you.
"This is it," She declared, her voice filled with unwavering certainty, "This is the one."
The boutique assistant smiled warmly, sharing in Arin's moment of triumph, "A perfect choice, Ms. Choi. This gown is destined to be a part of your beautiful love story."
As they celebrated and made arrangements for the dress, you found solace in the shadows, your smile never wavering.
In this moment, your love was a silent symphony, an echo of happiness and pain intertwined. You would stand by Arin's side, supporting her dreams, even if it meant bearing your own thorny secret in silence.
With no time to take a break or tend to your aching heart, you immediately found yourself in the men's boutique the following day.
The upscale boutique was a realm of sophistication, with racks of tuxedos adorned in various shades of black and grey, each exuding an aura of timeless elegance. Soft jazz music played in the background, creating an atmosphere of refinement.
Yeosang stood beside his best man, Wooyoung, both of them inspecting the selection of tuxedos before them.
The bright lights cast a soft glow on their faces, accentuating the excitement in their eyes. You watched them from a respectful distance, a smile etched on your face despite the turmoil raging within.
Yeosang had asked for your help in choosing his attire for the wedding, and you couldn't refuse, even though it meant masking your own pain.
The illness had not relented, its grip on your heart growing tighter with every passing day.
"So, what do you think?" Yeosang turned to you, his eyes shining with anticipation, "Which one do you think will make me look the most dashing for Arin?"
You swallowed hard, your heart aching as you looked at your childhood friend, "I think the black one would be perfect." You replied, your voice unwavering, though the weight of the petals in your chest was almost suffocating.
He nodded, his smile warm and appreciative, "You've always had great taste. Thanks for helping me out with this."
Wooyoung chimed in, patting your back playfully, "Yeah, she's got a knack for this stuff. You're lucky to have her, man."
You returned their gratitude with a genuine smile, your own turmoil concealed behind the façade of happiness, "It's my pleasure, you two. I want everything to be perfect for your special day."
As you continued to browse the tuxedos, Yeosang's conversation inevitably turned to Arin and her wedding gown, "Speaking of perfection," He began, his eyes shining with love, "Arin is absolutely ecstatic about her dress. She can't stop talking about how gorgeous it is."
Your heart clenched at the mention of Arin and her joy, "I'm sure she's going to look breathtaking." You replied, your voice carrying a hint of genuine happiness.
Yeosang's gratitude was evident as he turned to you, his eyes filled with warmth, "Thank you. You've been such an amazing help to her. I don't know what we would do without you."
The words were like a dagger to your heart, but you managed to smile through the pain, "I'm just happy to be a part of your special day, Yeo. You and Arin deserve all the happiness in the world."
As the day wore on, you continued to play your role, assisting Yeosang with the selection of his tuxedo and maintaining the façade of happiness.
Your love for him remained buried deep within, hidden beneath layers of petals. For now, you would do whatever it took to ensure that Yeosang and Arin's wedding day was a day filled with joy and love, even if it meant enduring your own silent suffering.
Unfortunately for you, you could feel the weight of your sickness pressing down on you, its tendrils of pain and discomfort growing increasingly unbearable.
You had excused yourself to the bathroom multiple times to cough up petals, each time feeling weaker and more drained.
On one of your trips back from the bathroom, you couldn't conceal the paleness that had washed over your face, your steps faltering slightly as you clutched a handkerchief tightly against your chest. It was clear that your condition was deteriorating rapidly, and you were growing weaker with each passing moment.
Wooyoung, sharp-eyed and observant, noticed your distress immediately. Concern etched his features as he approached you, his voice gentle but filled with worry.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asked, his hand reaching out to touch your arm gently. You forced a weak smile, though it was clear that you were far from okay, "I'm fine, Woo. Just a little tired, that's all."
His eyes bore into yours, not buying your facade for a moment.
"You don't have to hide it from me. I can see that you're not well. You've been in and out of the bathroom so many times today."
Tears welled up in your eyes as you struggled to maintain your composure. Wooyoung had always been perceptive, and you knew it was impossible to hide the truth from him any longer.
I can't do this by myself for much longer.
"You... you were right, Woo," You admitted, your voice shaking, "I am in love with Yeo, and I do have Hanahaki."
He looked at you with genuine concern, his eyes filled with empathy, "God, I knew it. You should have told me sooner. How... how long have you had it for?" You sighed, "Years, Woo. It's been years," He shook his head in disbelief, "I can't believe you suffered like this all alone for years."
You wiped away a tear that had escaped, your voice barely above a whisper, "I didn't want to burden you, Woo. I didn't want to take away from your happiness with Yeosang and Arin."
His expression softened even more, and he shook his head, "You're not a burden. You're our friend, and we care about you deeply. We want you to be happy too."
Wooyoung reached out and gently squeezed your hand, his words a soothing balm to your wounded heart, "Promise me that you'll come to me whenever you're feeling like this. I'll always be here for you, no matter what."
Tears streamed down your cheeks, but this time, they were tears of relief. You nodded, your voice filled with gratitude, "Thank you, Woo. I promise."
As he pulled you into a comforting embrace, you knew that you had a true friend in him, someone who would stand by your side through the darkest of times. With Wooyoung's support, perhaps you could find a way to navigate the painful journey ahead, one step at a time.
Yeosang watched from a distance, hidden in the shadows, as Wooyoung and you hugged.
He hadn't arrived early enough to understand the circumstances that had led to the embrace between you and his best friend. However, one thing was clear: the sight of it left an uncomfortable feeling gnawing at him.
Unbeknownst to you, his gaze had lingered on you two longer than he had intended, and a peculiar feeling had begun to churn within his chest—a strange mixture of discomfort and unease.
He couldn't quite put his finger on it, and that was what perplexed him the most. After all, he was on the brink of marrying Arin, the love of his life, the woman who had captured his heart completely. There was no reason for him to feel this way, and he was well aware of it.
As he stood there, he attempted to imagine a future where you and Wooyoung found happiness together.
It was an image he knew he should be able to conjure with ease, but an inexplicable ache twisted in his chest. It wasn't that he wanted to hold either of you back; he simply couldn't shake the discomfort that settled in his heart.
Yeosang took a deep breath, attempting to clear his mind of these bewildering thoughts. He knew he shouldn't be feeling this way, especially with his wedding to Arin just around the corner.
Guilt washed over him, and he silently chastised himself for entertaining such emotions.
He reminded himself that his love for Arin was unwavering, that she was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. This inexplicable feeling was just a momentary blip, a passing cloud in the sky of his emotions.
But no matter how hard he tried to push those feelings aside, they lingered, stubborn and insistent. The image of you and Wooyoung together tugged at his heartstrings in a way he couldn't understand, leaving him with a profound sense of unease.
With a final, determined exhale, Yeosang stepped out of the shadows, ready to rejoin you.
He needed to focus on the joyous occasion at hand, on the celebration of love that was meant to bind him to Arin forever. As he approached, he pushed aside the nagging feeling and vowed to be the best friend and partner he could be, even if it meant grappling with the complexity of his own emotions.
In the midst of your unending battle with the Hanahaki disease, Wooyoung became your unwavering support system, a beacon of hope in the sea of pain and uncertainty.
Your journey together was marked by moments of both agony and resilience, as you faced the relentless onslaught of petals and thorns.
Wooyoung had always been there, whether it was a late-night call to soothe your coughing fits or accompanying you to doctor's appointments.
His comforting presence was a constant reminder that you weren't alone in this struggle.
You juggled the demands of your job with the relentless symptoms of the disease, often finding solace in your work even as the petals clung to your throat.
Wooyoung would send you encouraging messages, reminding you to take breaks and prioritise your health.
Amidst the chaos of Yeosang's wedding preparations, Wooyoung took on the role of your guardian angel. He'd stay by your side during fittings and meetings, ensuring you didn't push yourself too hard.
It wasn't until one fateful day, as the illness reached its most excruciating stage, that you couldn't hold back the bloodied flowers any longer.
You rushed to the bathroom, your body wracked with painful coughs. Wooyoung, alarmed, followed you and witnessed the entire flower falling from your lips in a gruesome display.
As you gasped for breath, tears streaming down your face, Wooyoung gently touched your shoulder.
"This can't go on like this," He said with conviction, "You need to consider the surgery to remove those flowers for good."
His words hung heavy in the air, a stark reminder of the difficult choice you had been avoiding. You knew he was right, but the fear of losing your feelings for Yeosang made you hesitate.
Despite the pain, Wooyoung's unwavering support and guidance gave you the strength to face the decision that had been looming over you for far too long.
Perhaps it really was time to take the step that could free you from the relentless grip of the sickness, even if it meant sacrificing the love you had harboured in silence. After all, Yeosang would never return your feelings.
What's the point of even suffering like this?
Meanwhile, Yeosang couldn't help but notice the deepening bond between Wooyoung and you. It wasn't that he had been intentionally spying on you, but the presence of Wooyoung in your life had become increasingly apparent.
Yeosang did his best to distract himself with thoughts of Arin, the love of his life, and the excitement of their upcoming marriage.
He immersed himself in wedding preparations, from selecting the perfect venue to deciding on the menu and guest list. He yearned for every detail to be flawless, a testament to the love he and Arin shared.
But no matter how hard he tried to focus on Arin and their future together, his thoughts had an irritating tendency to drift back to you and Wooyoung. It was as if an invisible force tugged at his mind, pulling him away from the happiness he should have been feeling.
Frustration gnawed at him, and he berated himself for allowing such thoughts to intrude upon his joyous moments with Arin.
He felt torn between the life he had envisioned with Arin and the confusing emotions that seemed to be bubbling up around you and Wooyoung.
Yeosang knew he shouldn't be feeling this way.
He was about to marry the woman he loved, and he had no right to entertain thoughts that might jeopardise their happiness. Yet, no matter how hard he tried to push those thoughts aside, they lingered, a constant source of discomfort and confusion.
As the wedding day drew closer, Yeosang grappled with a storm of emotions, struggling to understand why he couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss, something he couldn't quite put his finger on.
His heart was divided, torn between his love for Arin and the unsettling thoughts that kept returning to you and his best friend.
And indeed, time sure as hell flies when you're suffering.
Next thing you all knew, the morning of the wedding arrived, and the atmosphere was filled with anticipation and excitement. Yeosang and Wooyoung were in a shared room, getting ready together, a tradition that had been upheld since their childhood.
Yeosang couldn't shake the nagging thoughts that had plagued him in the days leading up to the wedding.
He had watched Wooyoung and you grow closer, and the curiosity had finally become too much for him to bear. As he adjusted his tie and pretended to be in high spirits, he decided to broach the subject, masking his true intentions behind playful banter.
"You know, Woo," He began, a playful glint in his eye, "I've been meaning to ask you something."
Wooyoung, who was busy straightening his own tie, looked up with a raised eyebrow, "Ask away, Yeo. I'm an open book."
Yeosang chuckled, trying to maintain an air of nonchalance, "So, what's the deal with you and my bestie lately? You guys seem pretty close. Anything you want to share with your best man?"
Wooyoung glanced at Yeosang, his expression carefully neutral, "We've just been hanging out more, you know, like friends do."
Yeosang continued to feign playfulness, though the urgency behind his question was growing stronger, "Come on, Woo. You can't hide anything from me. Spill the beans. Is there something I should know?"
Wooyoung sighed, realising that Yeosang wasn't going to drop the subject easily. He decided to be honest but kept the details vague, "She has been going through a tough time, Yeo. I've been there to support her as a friend, that's all."
Yeosang's heart sank at the mention of you going through a tough time. He had no idea about the disease or the depth of your suffering, and the guilt began to creep in, "Is she okay?" He asked, his tone shifting from playful to genuinely concerned.
Wooyoung nodded, "She's getting better, but it's been a challenging journey for her. She's a strong person, though."
Yeosang nodded, his mind racing with unanswered questions. He wanted to ask more, to understand the nature of your struggles, but he feared delving too deep into a conversation that might reveal his own complex emotions.
With a forced smile, Yeosang changed the subject, steering the conversation away from you and back to the wedding preparations.
But deep down, he knew that the questions would continue to linger, and the unsettling feelings that had plagued him wouldn't be easily dismissed.
As the hours passed, the wedding day unfolded like a beautifully scripted scene.
Arin, radiant and resplendent in her bridal gown, had been whisked away to the makeup room, where you had the privilege of helping her prepare for her momentous day.
As you carefully applied Arin's makeup, ensuring every brushstroke was just right, Wooyoung entered the room with a soft knock. His presence was a soothing balm amidst the whirlwind of emotions that had been swirling within you.
Wooyoung cast a gentle smile in your direction, silently checking on you. His eyes held a hint of concern, a reflection of the care he had shown you during the painful days of your illness.
Arin, who was perched in her makeup chair, noticed your exchange and couldn't resist teasing you, "You two seem awfully close lately," She said with a playful twinkle in her eye, "Is there something you're not telling me?"
Wooyoung and you exchanged knowing glances, your camaraderie evident. You chuckled and replied, "Just good friends, Arin. No need to start any rumours."
He nodded in agreement, "Exactly, Arin. Nothing more, nothing less."
Arin feigned disappointment, though her smile was infectious, "Well, I suppose I won't have any juicy gossip to share at the wedding then."
The three of you shared a lighthearted laugh, the tension in the room dissipating. Arin, completely at ease in her friends' presence, couldn't have been more delighted with the support she had from both of you.
Stepping out of Arin's makeup room, you couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions. Arin was glowing, her happiness contagious, and you were truly delighted for her.
But as you made your way down the hallway to prepare yourself for the wedding, you encountered Yeosang, dressed impeccably in his suit.
Your heart skipped a beat at the sight of him, his striking appearance making it hard to suppress the surge of emotions that threatened to overwhelm you. You reminded yourself, painfully, that he would never be your groom. You had to bury your feelings deep down and put on a brave face.
Yeosang, however, didn't let the moment pass without addressing the unspoken turmoil that had been brewing between you.
His voice was gentle as he began, "I heard from Wooyoung that you've been going through a tough time."
You froze, surprised by his directness.
You had never expected Yeosang to bring up such a personal topic, especially on his wedding day, "Yeosang, I didn't want to burden you," You replied softly, your gaze avoiding his, "You have so much on your plate with the wedding preparations, and I didn't want to add to your stress."
Yeosang's expression softened, and he reached out to gently tilt your chin, forcing you to meet his gaze.
"You've always been my closest friend," He said earnestly, "I wish you had confided in me. I hate to think that you're going through something difficult alone."
His words tugged at your heart, and you fought to keep your emotions in check, "I didn't want to trouble you, Yeo," You whispered, your voice quivering, "I didn't want to distract you from your happiness with Arin."
Yeosang's eyes held a depth of sincerity that caught you off guard.
Without a word, he leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to your forehead, a simple but heart-fluttering gesture that spoke volumes.
Tears welled up in your eyes as you realised the depth of his care and concern. The weight of unspoken emotions lingered in the air, and for a brief moment, you allowed yourself to savour the bittersweetness of the moment.
Yeosang wanted to be there for me, even on his wedding day.
As you pulled away from each other, he whispered, "You're never a burden. I want to be there for you, no matter what." His words hung in the air, a promise that warmed your heart and offered a glimmer of solace in the midst of your pain.
With a grateful smile, you nodded, unable to find the words to express the depth of your feelings.
The truth was, even though Yeosang would never be yours, his friendship and support meant the world to you, and in that moment, you felt less alone in your struggle against the sickness.
As the moment of truth approached, you, as the maid of honour, gracefully walked down the aisle, the soft music filling the air.
Your heart was filled with bittersweet emotions, knowing that you were witnessing the culmination of Yeosang and Arin's love story. The sight of the gathered guests, the exquisite decorations, and the serenity of the venue created an almost ethereal ambience.
Yeosang, waiting at the altar, was taken aback by how beautiful you looked in your dress.
He couldn't help but marvel at your beauty, a realisation that struck him like a bolt of lightning. He wondered how he had never truly noticed it before, how your presence had always been an unassuming constant in his life.
Even when Arin began her walk down the aisle towards him, gorgeous in her bridal gown, Yeosang struggled to tear his eyes away from you. The air grew tense, and his unease mounted as he noticed Wooyoung remaining attentively by your side, a silent pillar of support.
When the officiant reached the part where he asked if there were any objections, a hush fell over the guests, and the words hung heavily in the air.
"Speak now, or forever hold your peace."
You felt a lump form your throat, your heart racing as you struggled to hold back the words that threatened to escape.
Your gaze darted away from Yeosang, unable to meet his eyes, and you clenched Wooyoung's hand tightly, drawing strength from his reassuring touch.
The seconds felt like hours, and the weight of unspoken truths hung heavy in the room. But in that moment, you made a choice. You chose to hold your peace, to let Yeosang and Arin's love flourish without your own pain becoming a stumbling block in their journey.
The ceremony continued, and as you took a deep breath, you knew that you had made the right decision.
It was a moment of silent sacrifice, a testament to the depth of your love for Yeosang and your desire to see him happy, even if it meant holding back your own feelings.
As the officiant's voice filled the air, Yeosang was asked the pivotal question: "Do you, Kang Yeosang, take Choi Arin to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
But the words 'I do' stuck in his throat, and his eyes remained inexplicably glued to you, standing there as the maid of honour. The atmosphere grew increasingly charged, and the guests began to murmur with confusion.
Arin's expression shifted from anticipation to confusion, then to shock and finally to hurt as she observed Yeosang's unexpected hesitation.
The once-happy occasion was marred by the tension that had settled over the ceremony.
Yeosang's internal struggle and his prolonged silence sent ripples of concern through the gathering. The guests exchanged worried glances, and the atmosphere grew increasingly uncomfortable.
At that moment, all eyes were on Yeosang, who had unwittingly become the centre of attention.
The wedding, which was meant to be a celebration of love, had taken an unexpected turn, and the unfolding drama left everyone horrified, especially Arin, who stood there, her heart breaking in front of all her loved ones.
You were completely taken aback when you realised that his eyes had been on you all this while, his hesitation to say 'I do' leaving you bewildered and conflicted.
Confusion and surprise etched across your face, you couldn't comprehend what was happening.
The sudden rush of emotions left you disoriented, and your chest tightened painfully. It was at that very moment that the disease chose to strike with an unprecedented intensity.
As you coughed violently, a hand to your mouth, the pain was excruciating. Your eyes widened in fear, and you couldn't help but look at the bloodied flower petals that had spilt into your palm.
You were acutely aware that everyone, especially Yeosang, had witnessed the horrifying spectacle, and the secret of your condition was no longer hidden.
Amidst the chaos, Wooyoung, worry etched across his face, acted swiftly. He immediately ushered you out of the venue and guided you to the nearest bathroom, concern evident in every step he took.
You clung to him, your heart and mind racing with fear and embarrassment.
Unbeknownst to you, Yeosang had been overwhelmed with worry as well. He had momentarily forgotten about his own wedding, his concern for you taking precedence.
He followed you out of the venue, his heart heavy with anxiety and confusion.
Meanwhile, Arin stood there at the altar, her heart shattered by the turn of events. She felt a profound sense of embarrassment and devastation, her once-happy wedding day transformed into a bewildering and painful spectacle.
She had no choice but to watch as the love of her life rushed after you, leaving her alone and heartbroken at the altar.
Yeosang's heart pounded in his chest as he rushed to the bathroom, fear and dread coursing through him. He was met with a harrowing sight when he arrived— you, heaving painfully in Wooyoung's arms, the sink scattered with bloodied flowers.
The sight sent a wave of horror and helplessness through him.
He gasped and called out your name, his voice filled with anguish and concern. He knelt beside you, desperate to offer any form of comfort.
You turned your head weakly, your eyes locking onto his with a mixture of surprise and worry, "Yeosang, what are you doing here?" You rasped, your voice strained and weak, "You can't be here. Arin is waiting for you."
Yeosang's expression was a mix of determination and distress. He shook his head, his eyes never leaving yours, "Don't be foolish," He implored, his voice unwavering, "You're more important right now. Please, tell me the truth about your condition."
You tried to protest, to divert his attention back to Arin, but the concern in Yeosang's eyes held you captive. It was clear that he wasn't going to back down, that he needed to know the full extent of what you were going through.
Tears welled up in your eyes as you met his gaze, a mixture of relief and vulnerability washing over you.
You knew that keeping this secret from him had only led to further pain for both of you. With a trembling breath, you began to share the painful truth about the Hanahaki disease that had been plaguing you for so long.
As you spoke, Yeosang listened intently, his heart heavy with the weight of your suffering. He couldn't bear the thought of you enduring this pain alone.
At that moment, the world outside the bathroom seemed to fade away, leaving just the three of you—Yeosang, Wooyoung, and you—bound together by a revelation that would forever alter the course of your lives.
As the painful truth about the Hanahaki disease spilt from your lips, Yeosang's distress deepened.
He listened intently, his eyes filled with a mixture of empathy and anguish. When you had finished explaining the devastating condition, a heavy silence hung in the air.
Yeosang finally gathered the courage to ask the question that had been haunting him, his voice trembling with uncertainty, "Is it me? Am I the reason you're suffering like this?"
You hesitated, your heart aching at the thought of admitting the truth, the truth that had remained hidden for so long. Before you could respond, Wooyoung, who had been standing by your side, stepped in with compassion in his eyes.
"Yes, Yeo. It's you." Wooyoung said softly.
"Now you know why she couldn't confide in you about this. She's been carrying this burden for a long time."
As Wooyoung gently confirmed the truth about your unrequited love for Yeosang, the weight of the revelation settled heavily in the small bathroom. You remained in Wooyoung's arms, tears glistening in your eyes, feeling exposed and vulnerable.
Wooyoung continued, his voice gentle but firm, "But she's going to get the surgery soon to remove the flowers. It's the best way to ensure her health and happiness. So please, don't forget about Arin. She loves you deeply, she deserves your love and commitment too."
Wooyoung emphasised the importance of not hurting Arin further, reminding Yeosang that you had made the difficult decision to undergo surgery to remove the flowers soon.
He urged Yeosang to respect Arin's love and commitment, as she deserved nothing less.
Yeosang listened intently, his face etched with a complex mix of emotions. It was a lot to process, and the realisation that you had been harbouring these feelings for him for years was undoubtedly overwhelming.
He understood Wooyoung's plea not to cause further pain to Arin, a woman who loved him deeply.
However, something unexpected happened in that moment.
As the idea of you undergoing surgery to remove the flowers, and consequently, your feelings for Yeosang, settled in his mind, he felt a surge of discomfort. A strange sense of unease washed over him.
The thought of you no longer loving him, of your feelings for him vanishing forever, was strangely unsettling. It was a sensation he couldn't quite explain. Yeosang found himself torn, grappling with his own unexpected emotions. He didn't want you to stop loving him, even though he couldn't be with you.
As he stood there, caught in the tumultuous storm of emotions, the bathroom felt like a confessional, each revelation and response pushing you further into the uncharted territory of your relationships and desires.
The path ahead remained uncertain, and the choices you make would carry profound consequences for all involved.
The aftermath of the cancelled wedding was a sombre and bewildering affair.
Guests were left stunned by the dramatic turn of events, and sympathy flowed overwhelmingly toward Arin, who had been publicly humiliated on what was supposed to be her special day.
Yeosang, grappling with the consequences of his actions, sought to apologise to Arin later on, knowing that he had caused her immense pain. But when he approached her with remorse in his eyes, she remained cold and distant.
Arin's voice was filled with hurt and anger as she confronted him, her words cut deep, "You disrespected me, Yeosang, in front of everyone we love. If you had second thoughts, you should have spoken to me before we went through with this wedding."
Her disappointment and sense of betrayal were palpable, and as they exchanged harsh words, it became clear that their relationship had been irreparably damaged.
She made a painful decision, one that she believed was necessary for her own well-being.
She broke up with Yeosang, unable to be with a person who could bring such heartache and humiliation on what should have been a day of joy and celebration.
Yeosang watched helplessly as Arin walked away, the weight of his actions crashing down on him.
He had lost not only the love of his life but also a cherished friendship, all because of his own conflicting emotions and the tangled web of unrequited love that had ensnared everyone involved.
The aftermath of that fateful day would leave lasting scars on their hearts, a stark reminder of the consequences of decisions made and secrets kept. It was a painful lesson in love, sacrifice, and the unpredictable ways in which the heart can lead us down unexpected paths.
Meanwhile, your days in the hospital leading up to the scheduled surgery were filled with anxiety and uncertainty.
The Hanahaki disease had taken a toll on your health, and you could feel your condition worsening with each passing day. The support of friends like Wooyoung had been a lifeline, but as the surgery date neared, you couldn't help but be overwhelmed by the weight of your own guilt and sorrow.
One day, as you lay in your hospital bed, Wooyoung excused himself to give you some privacy when Arin arrived to visit you.
You were surprised by her presence and felt a pang of guilt knowing that her relationship with Yeosang had ended due to the events at the cancelled wedding.
Tears welled up in your eyes as Arin spoke, her voice filled with a mix of sadness and understanding.
She told you that she and Yeosang had parted ways, and you couldn't help but apologise profusely, your voice trembling as you accepted responsibility for the pain you had inadvertently caused.
"It's all my fault." You cried, feeling the weight of your unrequited love and the havoc it had wreaked on the lives of those around you.
Arin, ever empathetic and kind, reached out to comfort you, her touch gentle and reassuring. She surprised you by apologising as well, her voice filled with regret, "No, I'm sorry. I should have realised what you were going through all these years. I should have been there for you instead of being the cause of your pain."
Her words were a testament to her character, her ability to see beyond her own suffering and extend empathy to others.
It was a bittersweet moment of understanding and forgiveness between two people who had both borne the burden of unrequited love and the pain it brought.
As you shared your regrets and sorrows, you couldn't help but be grateful for the compassion and understanding Arin had shown you.
It was a glimmer of hope in the midst of your own struggles, a reminder that even in the darkest times, human connection and empathy could offer solace and healing.
It's been a week since the disaster of a wedding.
Yeosang found himself grappling with a growing sense of fear and unease, knowing you would be going through the surgery soon. It was a period of deep reflection for him, and he couldn't help but look back on the moments you had shared throughout your school years.
He recalled the countless memories you had created together, the adventures, secrets, and dreams you had once shared as friends.
It finally struck him now, how blind he had been to the hidden depths of his own feelings for you. He thought back to the times when you had been there for him, the unwavering support and companionship you had offered, and he couldn't believe he had missed the signs of your affection for him.
Yeosang's thoughts delved into the pain you must have endured, watching him and Arin together, celebrating their love while suppressing your own.
The image of you coughing up bloody petals haunted him, a cruel reminder of the silent suffering you had endured for so long.
In those quiet moments of introspection, Yeosang experienced a profound realisation—one that left him both startled and shaken. He began to question whether his feelings for you had been more complicated than he had ever allowed himself to admit.
The possibility that he might return your feelings, that his heart might have been yearning for you all along, crept into his mind like a whisper.
It was a revelation that left him feeling conflicted, as he grappled with the consequences of his newfound understanding.
As the surgery date approached, Yeosang found himself facing a crossroads in his own heart, torn between the past he had shared with Arin and the uncharted territory of his emotions for you.
The future remained uncertain, and he couldn't deny the weight of the choices he would have to make in the days to come.
Just a day before your surgery, Yeosang stood outside the door of your hospital ward, his heart heavy with the newfound realisation of his feelings for you. He felt a mixture of fear, uncertainty, and guilt, unable to face you after everything that had transpired.
It was in this vulnerable moment that Wooyoung caught up with him, recognising the turmoil in his friend's eyes.
He guided Yeosang to a nearby bench, understanding that they needed to have a candid conversation about the complex emotions that had surfaced.
Sitting down with a sigh, Yeosang finally admitted his feelings to Wooyoung, his voice laced with sincerity and vulnerability, "Woo, I think... I might have feelings for her. I've been blind to it for so long, but now it's clear to me."
Wooyoung listened attentively, his expression serious as he absorbed Yeosang's confession.
He couldn't deny the depth of their friendship, nor the gravity of the situation. Wooyoung knew that he needed to address this with utmost care to ensure that Yeosang's feelings were genuine and not a result of guilt or confusion.
With a stern gaze, Wooyoung cautioned his friend, "Yeo, you need to be absolutely certain about this. She has been through so much pain, and the last thing I want is for you to play with her fragile feelings."
Yeosang nodded, his eyes filled with determination.
"I am certain, Woo. My feelings for her are real, and I don't want to hurt her anymore."
Wooyoung relented, his concern slowly giving way to a sense of understanding and support. He placed a hand on Yeosang's shoulder, his voice softened with genuine care.
"If you're sure about this, then please, Yeosang, make her happy. After everything she's suffered, she deserves nothing less."
With that silent understanding between them, the weight of Yeosang's newfound feelings hung heavily in the air.
It was a pivotal moment, one that would shape the course of their relationships and the choices they would make as they navigated the intricate threads of love and friendship.
As Wooyoung returned to your side, a small smile played on his lips.
He observed you carefully, noting a subtle change in your demeanour. You looked better, your complexion less strained, and there was a lightness in your eyes that hadn't been there before.
He couldn't help but tease you gently, "Hey, have you noticed any difference in how you feel?"
You paused, taking a moment to assess yourself.
To your surprise, you realised that you did feel remarkably better. The persistent ache in your chest had begun to fade, replaced by a newfound sense of ease and comfort.
Your eyes widened in realisation, a mixture of disbelief and joy washing over you.
Could it be? Could it really be that Yeo had returned my feelings?
Unable to contain your excitement, you nodded fervently, "Yes, Woo! I feel... I feel like I can breathe again."
At that moment, hope blossomed in your heart, and you couldn't help but believe that something extraordinary had occurred. Wooyoung wasted no time in calling the doctor to confirm your condition.
After a thorough examination, the doctor confirmed what you had dared to hope for – the Hanahaki disease had disappeared. The petals, the pain, the suffocating weight in your chest – all of it was gone.
Tears welled up in your eyes as the weight of the revelation settled in. It could only mean one thing: Yeosang loved you too. The realisation was overwhelming, a flood of emotions surging through you.
In that hospital room, surrounded by the echoes of a journey marked by pain and heartache, a new chapter began to unfold. The tangled threads of unrequited love were finally unravelling, giving way to the possibility of a love that had been years in the making.
As you stepped out of the hospital, Wooyoung by your side, your heart raced with anticipation.
There, by the entrance, stood Yeosang next to his car. His presence alone sent a flurry of emotions coursing through you, and you couldn't help but wonder if he had come to finally confess his feelings.
Wooyoung, always the protective friend, gave Yeosang one last warning, his voice filled with a firm seriousness, "Yeo, you better not hurt her. If you do, you'll have to deal with me."
Yeosang nodded, his own determination shining in his eyes, "I won't, Woo. I promise I'll be good to her."
Once Wooyoung had left, it was just the two of you, standing there in a moment heavy with unspoken emotions.
Yeosang took a deep breath, his gaze locked with yours, and he began to speak with a sincerity that left you breathless. His voice quivered with a mixture of emotions, a blend of regret and newfound clarity that gave weight to every word he uttered.
He began by saying your name, his voice soft but resolute, "I need you to know something. I've been blind for far too long, and I can't hide from the truth any longer."
He paused, his eyes searching yours for understanding and forgiveness. His admission hung in the air, a palpable tension that begged for resolution.
"I realised," He continued, his voice unwavering, "That I might have been more oblivious than I ever thought possible. For years, I couldn't see what was right in front of me—the depth of your feelings, the pain you were silently enduring."
His words carried the weight of years of unspoken emotions, and he reached out to gently cup your face with his hand. His touch was tender, a silent apology for the blindness that had kept you apart.
"God, I'm so sorry," He whispered, his voice filled with remorse, "I'm sorry for not noticing your suffering, for not realising the depth of your love. But now, I see it, and I can't deny how I feel any longer."
His confession hung in the air, a pivotal moment in your shared history. It was a moment of vulnerability, of acknowledging the love that had silently existed between you for years.
Yeosang's gaze never wavered, his eyes filled with a mixture of longing and determination, "From this moment forward, I promise to love you the way you deserve to be loved. I won't let my blindness or mistakes hold us back anymore."
You felt tears pricking at the corners of your eyes as his words washed over you, a wave of warmth and hope. It was a promise that held the weight of your shared history and the possibility of a future filled with love and happiness.
Unable to contain your emotions any longer, you closed the gap between you and pressed your lips against his, sealing your newfound understanding with a sweet and tender kiss.
It was a kiss that spoke of forgiveness, redemption, and the beginning of a love story that had been a long time in the making.
Time flies when you're suffering, but it sure as hell goes by even faster when you're happy.
In the years that followed Yeosang's heartfelt confession, your lives took on a new and beautiful rhythm, one filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams.
With the pain of the past behind you, Yeosang surprised you with a proposal on a picturesque beach at sunset one evening.
As the waves lapped gently at your feet, he got down on one knee, a radiant smile on his face. The words "Will you marry me?" were finally spoken to the right person. Tears of joy streamed down your face as you said yes, sealing your love in the most perfect way.
Your wedding day was a celebration of love and friendship.
Wooyoung stood proudly by your side as the best man, his unwavering support a testament to the strength of your bond.
As you and Yeosang exchanged vows, the happiness in your hearts reflected the years of longing and the promise of a future filled with shared love and adventures.
The joy of your union was extended to your growing family.
The two of you became parents to a beautiful baby boy, your love was now reflected in the eyes of your son. Wooyoung, always the protective friend, stood by you both during the journey to parenthood, offering guidance and support.
Your family gatherings were filled with laughter and warmth. Wooyoung, of course, remained a cherished presence in your lives, sharing in your joy and becoming an honorary uncle to your child.
Every year, you celebrate your love and commitment to each other with anniversaries marked by heartfelt surprises and romantic getaways. And you bet Wooyoung was there to raise a toast every time, reminding you of friendship's enduring power.
As the years passed and your love grew stronger, mundane yet cherished moments filled your days.
One sunny afternoon, Yeosang and you decided to embark on a cute little supermarket date, a routine outing to restock your home and ensure your little one had everything he needed.
Walking hand in hand through the aisles, you exchanged smiles and shared whispers, the simple act of being together filling your hearts with contentment. Your cart was filled with baby supplies, fresh groceries, and a few indulgences that always seemed to find their way into your basket.
As you turned a corner in one of the aisles, your carefree laughter echoed through the store. That's when it happened—your encounter with the past you had left behind.
In the midst of your laughter, you suddenly pulled away from your husband, a dramatic gasp escaping your lips as if caught doing something scandalous.
Yeosang blinked in confusion, his brows furrowing as he tried to comprehend your sudden change in behaviour.
But then, your eyes widened as you realised the reason for your flustered reaction. There, just a few feet away from the two of you, stood Arin. It was a chance encounter neither of you had expected.
In a panic, you whispered to Yeosang, "Arin's here." as if the mere mention of her name would explain your sudden reaction.
He turned to look in her direction, his expression one of surprise mixed with curiosity. Arin noticed your presence and made her way over to you both, her laughter filling the air.
"Hey, you two," She greeted you warmly, her smile genuine, "What a surprise to see you both here," Your cheeks flushed with embarrassment as you stammered out a greeting, "Arin, hi. It's been a while."
Arin laughed, clearly amused by your earlier dramatic reaction, "You don't have to be so flustered, silly. I promise I won't bite," Yeosang, ever the composed one, extended a hand with a friendly smile, "It's good to see you, Arin. How have you been?"
Her eyes sparkled with happiness as she shared her news, "I've been great. I'm getting married soon."
Your heart swelled with genuine happiness for her as you offered your congratulations, "That's wonderful, Arin. We're really happy for you," Your husband nodded in agreement, his smile warm and sincere, "Congratulations. We wish you all the happiness in the world."
Arin's laughter echoed through the supermarket once again as she thanked you both for your well wishes.
It was a chance encounter that reminded you of the twists and turns life had taken you through, and the enduring bonds of friendship that remained, even in the face of new beginnings.
As you returned home, your hearts still light from the unexpected encounter with Arin, you were greeted by the familiar warmth of your shared space.
Opening the door, you found Wooyoung, who had been helping you babysit your energetic son, engaged in playful antics with the child, their laughter filling the room.
"Hey lovebirds, how was the supermarket adventure?" Wooyoung greeted you two with a smile, gently setting down your son.
Yeosang and you shared a knowing look, still revelling in the shared moment you had just experienced, "It was... eventful," You replied with a chuckle. Your husband chimed in, "We bumped into someone unexpected."
Wooyoung raised an intrigued eyebrow, "Oh? Do tell."
And so, you recounted the encounter with Arin, reliving the moments with laughter and shared glances. Wooyoung listened with genuine happiness, his eyes sparkling with the memories of your journey together.
"I can't believe how far we've come," Wooyoung mused, a nostalgic smile on his face, "From those crazy days with the Hanahaki, to this. I'm so glad it's all over."
His words echoed your sentiments exactly.
The pain and secrecy of those days felt like a distant memory, replaced by the warmth and love that now filled your lives.
As the evening settled in, you found yourselves in the living room, watching your son playfully interact with Wooyoung. The room was filled with the sounds of their laughter, a symphony of joy that warmed your hearts.
Unable to contain your happiness, Yeosang and you shared a glance, your smiles reflecting the contentment that filled your hearts.
Slowly, he reached for your hand, your fingers intertwining in a silent promise of the love you shared. As your son's giggles filled the air, Yeosang leaned in, meeting your lips in a tender kiss.
In that quiet moment, as your son played happily with your best friend, you knew that your journey had come full circle.
The pain of the past had given way to a future filled with love, laughter, and the unwavering support of the people who had walked this path with you.
And so, you sat together, cherishing the simple yet profound beauty of your shared life, grateful for every step that had led you to this moment of pure happiness.

a/n: this went in a different direction than I planned but I’m not complaining. I figured I’d leave the horror in the horror section and not include a crime scene and settled for the generic ‘wife hires a P.I. cause she thinks her husband is cheating but turns out to be something else entirely.’ Thank you so much for reading this installment of the Library of Illusion series and as always, this is a work of fiction and all characters are not reflective of their respective irl counterparts. for entertainment purposes only. banner made by me. “How was your trip back in time?”
You walked over to the desk, holding out the key for Seonghwa to take.
He looked up from the key to you before slowly taking it. “The lord’s advisors wanted to execute me,” you replied as Seonghwa put the key away, shutting the box softly. “But they didn’t,” Seonghwaa replied as he looked up from the box to meet your gaze. Your eyes narrowed. “But they wanted to.”
Seonghwa said nothing, merely holding your gaze.
Moments passed as you had a stare down with the man behind the desk before you finally broke. “Aren’t you supposed to ask me where I want to go next?” you asked, crossing your arms over your chest.
The tension in the room was so thick as Seonghwa took a moment to process what you said, still staring at you with an unreadable expression. Sensing he wasn’t going to move until you did, you finally broke the silence.
“Alright then, I’ll visit the crime section next,” you said, turning away from him and making your way to the door, passing the dark sign for the science fiction section and to the lit up sign for the crime and mystery section.
Turning to face Seonghwa, you watched as he begrudgingly got up, made his way over slowly, pulling out his keys and picked out the right one. “You’re sure about this?” he asked as he reached you, hesitating to look up at you.
You nodded, determined to get through the next trial and get the key. Monsters and aliens were one thing but your only experience with men so far in the Library had been a walk in the park compared to your trial in both the science fiction and horror sections.
“I’m sure,” you answered. Seonghwa said nothing more as he unlocked the door, turning the knob and opening the door.
“Remember,” he said softly as you stepped past him.
“Be careful. The horror section was one thing but this is the crime section.” You glanced back at him, meeting his eyes as they flashed red for a brief moment. “I’ll be okay,” you answered. “If I can handle aliens, spider creatures, and bloodthirsty advisors of a feudal lord, I think I can handle this.”
Seonghwa nodded and shut the door behind you, leaving you alone in the shelves as you headed down the long dark corridor.
Each section had changed and morphed as you headed further and you could only imagine and wonder which direction this section would take you.
As you continued to walk, your boots echoing on the wooden floor, you spotted something in the distance; a light. Your steps sped up, wanting to get through the corridor as fast as you could. The light didn’t seem to grow any closer as you walked and you wondered if it was a trick.
This was the crime and mystery section so it didn’t seem likely that it was some sort of trick of the light or anything like that but then again, you never knew. This was the Library of Illusion after all.
After a couple more minutes, you noticed that the light seemed to be growing in size. Relief flooded your senses as you continued to walk closer and closer to the light.
As you drew nearer, you realized it was a doorway. The light was inside the doorway and soon, you discovered it was an elevator. Inside the box was a simple lever and a gate. You stepped inside and closed the grate before turning to look at the lever. Glancing around you saw there were no buttons.
Placing your hand on the lever, you took a deep breath and pulled it towards you. The elevator jolted before starting to ascend. The only light was the dim one above you that flickered occasionally as the lift climbed in whatever building you were in.
You waited for what felt like hours but could have only been a few minutes when the elevator finally arrived at a floor, the blackness of the wall before you opening up to reveal a hallway. The lift dinged as it stopped and you were clear to open the grate.
Pulling it back, you peered out of the open doorway before stepping out into the hallway. It wasn’t nearly as long as the other one. The walls were a simple yellow paint, sort of dingy and faded. Clearly this was an old building. As you walked down the hall towards another light, the green carpet dulling your steps, you caught sight of two other doors with frosted glass windows.
“What is this place?” you whispered as you stopped to inspect one of the doors. Trying the handle, you found it was locked. With an annoyed huff, you continued to the door where the light was coming from.
Finally reaching the door, you discovered it was ajar and you pushed it open carefully, peering through the crack. It was empty save for some furniture. Opening the door more, you stepped into the room, surveying it carefully.
The carpet was the same green as the hall and the walls the same yellow paint. There was a dark wood desk in the center of the room covered with scattered papers and other desk decor. There was a high back leather chair behind the desk.
The walls were lined with bookcases and filing cabinets, each full of papers and books. As you walked into the room, you started to look around further. The books on the shelves varied from languages to cracking ciphers.
Tumblr media
As you started to reach for one of the books, you heard footsteps and turned as the door was thrown open fully and shut as a man entered the room, locking the door and huffing as if he’d run a marathon. You froze, eyes wide as he turned from the door and his eyes met yours, looking just as shocked.
“Who the hell are you?” he asked, narrowing his eyes. “Uh,” you replied, lowering your hand. “I’m Y/N,” you answered turning to face him fully.
You watched as he reached into his jacket and pulled out a small revolver. “Whoa,” you said, holding your hands up. “There’s no need for that!”
You eyed him as he aimed the gun, keeping it trained on you.
“Why are you here?” he asked. “How did you get in?”
You eyed the gun nervously. You’d never had a gun drawn on you before.
“The door was unlocked and the light was on. I came in to see if anyone was here,” you answered. The man gave you a suspicious look. “Who do you work for?” he asked suddenly. You shook your head, shrugging.
“No one.” you answered. “I’m not a spy or something. I don’t even know where I am,” you added.
The man held you at gunpoint as he started to inspect the room. “If I find anything missing,” he warned as he started to search. “Go ahead,” you replied. “I have nothing to hide.”
You watched as he searched the whole office, checking all the drawers on the desk as well as the shelves.
When he was satisfied nothing was missing, he holstered the gun. “What’s your name, again?” He asked as he moved to stand before you. “Y/N,” you answered. “And you are?”
He looked up to meet your gaze. “CJ,” he answered. “I’m a private investigator.”
You looked around the office again and it suddenly made sense. The papers, the bulletin board with the pins and red thread. “How did you get here?” CJ asked, you turned your attention back to him. “I walked,” you answered plainly.
“I followed a hallway to an elevator and took the lift up. It brought me to this hallway,” you continued to explain. The man’s eyes narrowed.
“And how did you end up in that hallway?”
Deciding it would be better to play it safe, you told him everything. How you got into the hall, the Library, your quest, all of it save for the intimate details.
CJ listened with mild curiosity as you explained how you ended up in his office.
“I know it sounds outrageous,” you said as he stared back at you. “But I promise it’s the truth.”
You waited for him to respond, watching as he seemingly thought over your words thus far. Finally he nodded. “I’ve heard crazier stories,” he replied. “And they ended up being true, so this doesn’t seem entirely unlikely.”
You relaxed, glad he took your explanation at face value. If it hadn’t been for an introduction of a gun, you never would have told another soul about the Library but you weren’t going to take any chances when a firearm was involved.
“Now what?” you asked after a beat of silence, watching as he moved to take a seat behind the desk. It was only now that you got a good look at him. When he entered, he’d been wearing a long tan coat but under that he wore a white button down with dark khaki pants and thick black suspenders.
CJ looked up at you. “What do you mean?” he asked. You glanced around the room. “Do I just leave?” you asked. “Or do I stay? Like, what now?”
CJ shrugged. “What do you want to do?”
“I need to find that key,” you replied. “That’s the reason I’m here.”
CJ nodded quickly, leaning forward. “Right, right,” he said. “The key.”
You watched as he leaned over, pulling open a desk drawer and pulled out a folded piece of cloth. He set it on top of the desk and pulled back the material.
You gasped, drawing his attention.
Inside the cloth was a key, made of the same metal and with its own insignia just like the other three keys. “Are you the Guardian?” you asked as CJ looked up at you. “Guardian? I don’t know about that,” he answered as you moved forward to get a closer look at the key.
Just as quickly as he produced it, CJ covered the key and placed it back inside the desk drawer. “I found it,” he admitted as he locked the drawer, pocketing the key in his right pocket. “Figured it was some sort of antique and I might be able to sell it.”
A frown settled on your face. “Sell it? For how much?” CJ pondered for a moment before answering. “I’m not entirely sure. See, I didn’t know what it was for. What it opened or if it even went to anything. It could have been a dud but now that I know it opens something, I’m more inclined to see what it opens.”
You shook your head. “I don’t think that’s possible,” you replied. “Seonghwa would never allow it.” CJ tilted his head, watching you with his dark eyes. “Seonghwa? Ah, the Keeper of Keys?” You nodded in reply.
“He’s sort of a stickler for the rules.”
CJ nodded slowly as he thought for a moment. “Tell you what, doll,” he said suddenly, sitting up straight. “How about we make a deal?”
Ignoring the pet name, you narrowed your eyes. “A deal?”
CJ nodded before speaking. “You help me with this case and I’ll pay you with the key.”
You glanced at the desk before looking back up at him.
“What sort of case?”
Tumblr media
The case, it turned out, was a cheating husband. CJ had been paid by the wife to find irrefutable proof that her husband was cheating on her so she could divorce him and take everything. You weren’t entirely against the idea but you did question your safety which prompted CJ to ask if you had experience with guns.
When you shook your head, he clicked his tongue but got up anyway and headed to one of the bookcases, pulling a book which turned out to be a secret lever that released a locking mechanism and allowed him to push the book aside to reveal a safe in the wall.
Behind the safe door was a small fortune in gold and a few choice weapons. He didn’t trust you with a gun as you had no experience but he was more than willing to loan you a twelve inch fixed knife which you now had strapped to your hip.
The pair of you then headed out as he explained that he’d learned the routine of his target and knew where he was going to be tonight but you weren’t dressed for the occasion. That was how you followed CJ upstairs to his flat, watching as he dug through his closet and pulled out a dress and shoes for you to change into.
You'd initially turned that down so instead he compromised. You’d wear the dress while he’d stuff your clothes and boots into a small satchel. You didn’t like the idea of wearing the red sequined dress but once it was on, you couldn’t deny that it looked really good. You borrowed one of his coats and then the two of you were on your way to a club in the city.
Inside the club was something out of a movie. If it had been any other situation, you would have tried to enjoy the atmosphere but you were undercover and couldn’t afford distractions.
Once inside the club, you and CJ made your way over to a seat in the corner so CJ could keep an eye on his target. You finally got a glimpse of the man. He was tall with dark hair, wearing a dark navy blue suit. He looked like a regular guy and so ordinary. You half expected some kind of shifty villain but reminded yourself this wasn’t a movie.
CJ ordered two drinks and not long after they arrived. You sipped yours sparingly, while noticing CJ didn’t even touch his. “If you don’t drink it, you’re gonna look suspicious,” you said quietly. “I don’t drink,” he replied. “Clouds my judgment.”
You stared blankly at him. “Then why order it?” you asked. He turned his head to look at you briefly. “Because it looks weird if I don’t,” he replied. “Now stop distracting me.” You shook your head.
“It looks more suspicious if you order a drink and don’t drink it,” you said, pushing the martini towards him. “One drink isn’t going to kill you.”
CJ pushed the drink away. “I. Don’t. Drink.” With a huff, you downed the rest of your drink and set the empty glass on the seat next to you before taking his. “What are you—” he began but you cut him off.
“I told you,” you answered, taking the olive out of the cup. “It looks more suspicious to order a drink and not drink it. Makes it look like you’re trying too hard to fit in.”
CJ watched as you sucked the olive off the toothpick before looking away.
“And stop staring,” you added as you lifted the glass and took a sip.
“You’re being obvious.”
CJ groaned softly and gave you an annoyed look.
“How am I supposed to do my job then?”
You sighed, setting the glass down and turned to him. “First of all, take off your coat. You look like you’re about to dart out the door at any second.” CJ slowly shrugged his coat off, draping it over the satchel.
You caught a passing waiter and quietly asked for a virgin martini without the olive. He nodded and made his way to the bar, returning shortly with the drink and set it on the table. Thanking him, you pushed the drink towards CJ who glared at you.
“I don’t—”
“It’s a mocktail,” you interrupted. He glanced at the drink and back. “A what?"
“It’s not real alcohol. It’s a fake cocktail.”
CJ picked up the drink and sniffed it.
“Oh my god,” you whispered. “Just drink it.”
He took a sip and made a face. “That’s disgusting,” he whined. You rolled your eyes, taking a sip of his old drink. “Then don’t order martinis,” you answered.
The two of you sat in silence, sipping your drinks. You occasionally snuck glances at the target while reminding CJ to stop staring. “He’s going to catch on if you don’t stop it.”
CJ grumbled as he finished his mocktail. “That was revolting,” he huffed. You rolled your eyes again. As the waiter came by, he asked if you’d like another. You nodded. “Instead of the virgin martini, can we get a virgin Manhattan?” you asked, to which he nodded with a smile and took your empty glasses.
“Now what did you order?”
You turned to look at CJ. “You didn’t like that martini, so I got you something else,” you answered. He stared at you for a moment before turning to look at the target.
You looked up and noticed some of the men looking your way. ‘Shit.’
As the waiter returned with your drinks, you thanked him and turned CJ’s attention away from the men. “Try this,” you said, setting the drink in front of him. He looked down at it. “What is it?” he asked as you picked up your martini.
“A virgin Manhattan. No alcohol and it probably tastes a lot better than the martini.”
He picked up the drink and took a sip. “You’re right,” he said, looking mildly surprised. “This is much better.”
You relaxed as he took another sip. Several of the men sitting with the target were now looking in your direction. You downed the rest of your drink and got up, moving to grab CJ’s hand and pull him up.
“What are you doing?” He hissed as you pulled him from the table and onto the dance floor. “The men at the table are watching us. You’re being too obvious,” you said as you placed one of his hands on your hip and took the other in yours.
“Just dance with me for a couple songs,” you instructed as you both fell into the rhythm of the music. “Let them forget we’re here and then we’ll go back.”
CJ was a surprisingly good dancer and you were thankful, otherwise this might have drawn more attention.
“Where did you learn to dance?” you asked as he spun you. “My mother,” he answered. “She used to wake me up on Saturday mornings with the radio and we’d dance while she made breakfast.”
You smiled at him. “That’s really sweet,” you replied. “Do you still see her?”
CJ shook his head. “She passed away last year.” The smile on your face dropped. “I’m sorry CJ,” you answered. Silence fell over the two of you as you continued to dance.
“Jongho.”
You looked up at him, mildly startled. His eyes met yours. “My name is Jongho,” he continued. “Choi Jongho.” Your lips spread into another smile.
“That explains CJ,” you replied, taking note of the small smile on his face.
Tumblr media
When you were sure the men at the table had forgotten about you and Jongho, you led him over to the bar to order two new drinks. “I still have a drink at the table,” he said as you waved the bartender down.
“First rule of drinking at a club,” you said after telling the bartender your order and turning to look at Jongho. “Never leave your drink unattended and come back to drink it. Someone could have slipped something into it.”
You thanked the bartender as he handed your drinks over. You handed Jongho his drink and led him back to the table. His drink had been picked up by a server but you didn’t want to take any chances.
When you arrived back at the table, you switched the seating.
“Sit here,” you whispered, lightly kicking the chair across from yours. Jongho looked up at you confused. “But I can’t see them if I sit here,” he answered. You nodded. “Exactly,” you replied. “But I can.”
He hesitated, looking like he was about to argue but he surprisingly took the seat.
“If we lose them,” he said, taking a sip of his drink. “I’m blaming you.”
Luckily, you didn’t lose them. Instead, you made Jongho tell you everything he had about the target up to the present point. You wanted to know everything he did, everyone he saw, everywhere he went.
You were nursing your martini while he finished his drink when you saw the men get up. “They’re moving,” you whispered. Jongho moved to turn his head but you reached forward, grabbing his hand and drawing his attention.
“Don’t make it obvious. Just let them go, we’ll follow shortly.”
To your surprise, Jongho fell into the act, taking your hand in his and looking down at it as the target continued to move through the club. You watched as Jongho got up and moved into the seat next to you, still holding your hand in his.
“How do you know so much about tailing someone?” he asked softly, looking up to meet your gaze. You took another sip of your drink. “I watch a lot of movies,” you replied, not noticing the confused look on his face.
“What are movies?”
You wracked your brain, trying to think of how to explain what a movie was. “It’s like a moving picture,” you replied. “Oh, cinemas,” Jongho said with a nod. You nodded quickly. “Yes, cinemas,” you answered.
You saw Jongho’s eyes follow the target behind you, his head staying still. He leaned in closely, lips close to your ear. “They’ve stopped at the bar.”
You nodded, before faking a giggle. “Just play along,” you whispered back. Jongho nodded. You never thought you’d have to teach a private investigator how to perform a stakeout but here you were, teaching Jongho.
“Pretend like you’re kissing my neck,” you whispered. You heard Jongho sputter.
“Are you insane?!”
“Just do it”
Jongho hesitated. “I can’t pretend to do that,” he murmured, to your annoyance. “Then just do it for real.”
He stared back at you. “What are we doing?”
“We want them to think we’re here as a couple. Do you want your cover blown?”
Jongho shook his head. “I can’t just do that out of nowhere,” he protested.
You rolled your eyes, pushing your drink back before grabbing the back of his neck and pulling him into a kiss. You could feel the way he tensed up under your touch but as your lips moved against his, Jongho relaxed, even leaning into the kiss. When you pulled back, breaking the kiss, Jongho looked mildly upset.
“I wasn’t done, yet,” he whispered, pulling you back into another kiss.
Pulling back, you broke the kiss for a second time.
“Don’t get too into the act,” you reminded him. “We don’t wanna lose them.” Jongho glared at you before glancing behind you and then towards the door. “They’re leaving,” he noted.
You glanced over your shoulder before looking back at the table they’d been sitting at which was now empty. Glancing at the bar, you saw none of the men that had been with the target were in sight.
“Alright,” you answered. “The coast is clear.” Jongho grabbed his coat before handing you the satchel. “Let’s go.”
You got up, leaving some cash on the table before heading for the door. Jongho peered out and saw the men standing around, some smoking while they spoke. “We can’t go out this way,” he murmured.
“The side door,” you whispered. Jongho quickly took your hand and led you back into the club, squeezing through the other patrons and to the hall where the bathrooms were. There was a side door here you’d seen earlier while dancing and it was unlocked thankfully as you and Jongho headed out into the alley between the club and the building next door.
“Wait!” you whispered as Jongho headed for the end of the alley. He turned back to look at you. “I need to change!”
“The bathrooms are just inside, I'll keep an eye on them,” he replied.
You turned back to the door and tried to pull it open only to find it had locked when it shut. “It’s locked!” you hissed. Jongho groaned. “Then just change here!”
You looked around. “Right here?”
Jongho nodded. “We’re the only ones here,” he replied. “Just change quickly.”
You hesitated. “I can’t change here,” you replied softly, prompting him to turn. “Well they’re still by the doors and you can’t get back in from here,” he explained. You glanced around before turning back to him.
“Just hurry up,” he insisted. “No one else is here.”
“But what if someone comes by?”
Jongho turned to look at you. You could see his eyes looking around as he tried to find a solution. “I’ll cover you,” he finally said, shrugging his coat off and holding it up. “Just dress quickly.”
You nodded as he held the coat up, keeping and eye out for anyone walking into the alley or coming from the club side door.
You moved as quickly as you could, unzipping the side of the dress and shimmying out of it. You kicked the shoes off before digging into the satchel for your shorts and top. You pulled them on, cheeks burning as you pulled your shorts over your bare bottom half.
You should have fought San for your panties but it was too late now.
Once your shorts were on, you pulled on your blouse and buttoned it up before pulling on your socks and slipping your feet into your boots, tightening the laces.
Now fully dressed, you shoved the dress and shoes into the satchel and stood up straight. “Okay,” you announced. “Done.”
Jongho lowered the coat and nodded, pulling it back on as you headed for the end of the alley, peering around the corner, Jongho not far behind.
“Ow,” you hissed, pushing Jongho off you. “You stood on my foot!”
He mumbled an apology before peering around you and the corner. “Wouldn’t have happened if you weren’t in the way, doll,” he answered. You glared at him, about to retort when he shushed you, leaning past you to watch.
You turned to peek around the corner where you saw the target and his friends getting into two taxis.
“They’re getting into taxis,” Jongho announced, which prompted you to pinch his arm. “I can see that!” you hissed, ignoring the scowl on Jongho’s face.
“Which one is it again?” you whispered, eyes scanning as the men split up. “He’s getting into the front seat of the first taxi,” Jongho answered. “And his wife really thinks he’s cheating?”
Jongho nodded.
“Seems pretty anticlimactic,” you replied.
Jongho shrugged his shoulders. “It pays the bills,” he answered before grabbing your arm and pulling you back. “Shit, the car is coming, hide!”
The two of you scrambled behind a dumpster as the two taxis drove past the alley the two of you were currently hiding in. Your chest was pressed against the steel side of the dumpster, Jongho behind you, pressing into your backside.
You could feel his breath against your neck until he cleared his throat and stepped backwards. “H-he’s gone,” he said softly. You turned around to face him, finding he was already looking away. “We should probably follow him.”

Once in Jongho’s car, the two of you managed to find the taxis and followed them at a distance through the city. The drive led the two of you to the farside of whatever town you were in. “Where are we?” you asked, looking out the window.
“We’re over by the docks,” Jongho answered as he slowed the car to a stop, keeping the headlights off as he pulled to the corner of the street where the taxis had turned down. “It’s nothing but old unused warehouses over here,” he added as you both looked down the street.
The taxis had stopped. “This is it,” Jongho said, putting the car into reverse and pulling back a few feet before parking the car and cutting the engine. “Let’s go,” he said, leaning into the back of the car and grabbing a camera.
You opened your door and got out, shutting the door as quietly as possible as Jongho fiddled with the camera. He moved quickly to the corner of the building and peered around it, raising the camera to snap a couple pictures.
You peered around him just in time to see the men enter one of the old buildings as the taxis drove off. Jongho kept you behind him as the two of you made your way down the street. You stopped, grabbing Jongho as you noticed the man standing by the door.
Just as quickly, you pulled him into an alley between two buildings. “What are you doing?” Jongho hissed. You put a finger to your lips and beckoned him to follow you.
Peering around the corner, you could see now two men guarding the entrance of the warehouse. “Shit,” Jongho whispered. “How do we get in?”
You pulled back to look up at the building. You noticed a couple of cracked windows and moved over to climb on top of some old boxes to peer inside. “Here,” you whispered, waving him over.
You carefully pushed the window open and looked inside the building.
When you saw no one, you hoisted yourself up. “Be careful!” Jongho whispered as you pulled yourself into the window and carefully dropped down onto a table inside the building.
Jongho peered in, calling your attention with a ‘pst.’
You looked up as he held up the camera before tossing it to you.
You caught it as he climbed into the window, lowering himself onto the same table as you looked around, raising the camera and taking a couple of pictures for him. Jongho joined you on the warehouse floor and took the camera back.
The two of you looked around until you noticed light coming from a stairwell leading into a basement. You tapped Jongho and pointed. He nodded and led the way quietly, careful to avoid any old or loose looking floorboards.
The staircase was metal and didn’t creak thankfully.
As you made your way down the stairs, distant shouting could be heard. The further into the basement you descended, the louder the shouting. Soon you could hear barking and growling amongst the shouting.
You grabbed Jongho’s arm, causing him to look up at you. “Dogs,” you whispered.
He nodded, obviously not piecing together what you were. “Dog fighting,” you whispered, satisfied when it sunk in and his eyes widened. “We shouldn’t be here,” you continued but Jongho shook his head. “I have a job to do,” he replied. “And if you want that key, you’re gonna help me.”
Your heart sank and you saw no other way out of this.
Nodding, you continued to follow him down the stairs.
At the bottom the hall led forward. There were two doors. Behind one you could hear shouting which you assumed to house the ring. You pointed to the other door first. “If you need pictures, you’re going to want to get them of any other dogs being held here,” you explained. “Especially if you plan on turning this over to the police.”
Jongho took hold of the handle and slowly opened the door. Inside was exactly as you suspected. Stacks of crates housing all sorts of dogs of different breeds and sizes. It made your heart hurt, knowing what these poor animals were being used for.
Jongho snapped a few pictures of the crates before moving further into the room. You glanced around and then up, noticing the wall separating this room from the main room didn’t reach the ceiling. But you noticed something else. An opening in the floor above. You grabbed Jongho’s sleeve and nodded towards the ceiling.
He looked up and noticed the opening before looking back down at you.
“Good eye,” he whispered before ushering you towards the door and back up the stairs. Once upstairs, you watched him carefully make his way over to the opening, getting down to be closer to the edge. Once peering over, he snapped a few pictures of what you could only assume was the main event.
You urged him to hurry, glancing around and noticing that the door downstairs was open and you could hear footsteps. “Jongho!” You hissed. “Someone’s coming!”
Jongho scooted back before getting up and quickly making his way back, not caring if any of the floorboards squeaked as there was so much sound coming from below. “Come on!” he hissed, waving you over. You followed him back to the window you’d come in from, heart pounding as he helped you climb the table and boosted you up to the window.
Once you were through, he climbed through himself and jumped down from the boxes outside before helping you down. Without thinking, he took your hand and led you to the end of the alley, peering around the corner. The two men were no longer in sight.
Jongho took that opportunity to take off, dragging you down the street and back to the car. Once there, he tossed you the camera as you both got in and started the car before taking off and driving away from the warehouses.
The entire ride back, your heart was pounding as Jongho rambled on and on about the pictures and everything he managed to capture.
Soon, you were back at his building, heading up to the floor his office was on.
You followed Jongho inside, still silent as adrenaline continued to course through your body while Jongho removed his coat and headed for the stairs. “Come on,” he said excitedly.
You threw a glance at his desk before following him up the steps.
Inside his apartment, he walked over to a cabinet in the kitchen and pulled out two glasses. “I know I said I don’t drink,” he said as he bustled about. “And it’s true. At least not while I’m working,” he continued as he pulled out a bottle of whiskey.
“So,” you finally spoke up. “About that key.” Jongho turned to look at you, bottle of whiskey in hand. “The key?” He asked. You nodded. “That was the deal.”
He hesitated before setting the bottle of liquor down. “Well,” he started. “I was actually thinking,” he added. “We made such a good team tonight.”
Your chest tightened. ‘No. He’s not going to do this now.’
“Maybe we could work together?”
You shook your head. “I can’t,” you answered. “I know this seems real to you,” you replied. “But it’s not. I’m stuck inside a mystical library,” you continued. “I need the key to get free and return to my own life.”
Jongho looked down, a look of disappointment crossing his features.
“I don’t know,” he said softly as you walked over to where he stood, pulling yourself up to sit on the counter beside him. “I know we made a deal,” he continued. “But I’ve really enjoyed your company.”
Without answering him, you took one of the glasses and lifted it.
You were determined to get that key. One way or another.
“Tell you what,” you said, bringing the glass to your lips and taking a sip. “How about we play a game.” Jongho looked up at you, lifting his own glass. “A game?”
You nodded. “A game. If I win, I get the key,” you replied. Jongho contemplated for a moment. “And if I win?” he asked, fighting the urge to smirk. You rested the glass against your exposed thigh. “Well, what do you want?” you asked softly as Jongho closed the distance between you, pushing your knees apart as he set his glass down on the counter.
“What do I want?” he asked, looking up at you as you nodded. “Hmm,” he hummed, thinking as he looked around, eyes settling back on you.
“I want you to stay,” he answered, grabbing his glass and taking another sip, moving to put some distance between you.
You lifted your glass, downing the rest of your whiskey before setting the glass down and moving to undo the top few buttons of your blouse. Jongho’s breath caught in his throat as you slowly undid the buttons.
“What do you really want?” You asked again, trying to hide the smirk that threatened to form as his eyes went straight to your exposed collar.
It wasn’t the first time you’d seduced a man to get what you wanted and you were sure it wouldn’t be the last.
“Keep going,” Jongho whispered but you shook your head. “No,” you answered.
“You have to tell me what you want so we can play the game,” you replied. Jongho downed the rest of his drink, setting the glass on the counter and moved back between your spread legs, one hand moving to the small of your back, the other moving to the back of your neck and pulling you into a searing kiss.
You moaned against his lips, hands moving to grab the front of his shirt. You broke the kiss, giggling as he chased your lips with a frown. “You have to tell me what you want,” you repeated. “For the game.” Jongho pulled you down from the counter, turning you to face away.
“Fuck the game,” he murmured, lips brushing against your skin as his hands moved to finish unbuttoning your top. You moaned, pushing your backside against him, feeling his erection through his pants. He groaned in your ear as he finished unbuttoning your shirt. “Keep doing that,” he moaned.
You giggled, pushing back against him again as he rutted against you. “Shit,” he groaned, pulling your shirt down past your shoulders and discarding it on the floor. “Come here,” he rasped, turning you to face him and pulling you into another kiss.
You moaned into his mouth as his hands wandered, moving up to grope you over your black lace bra. “These need to come off,” he growled, hands moving down to mess with the button and zipper of your shorts. Your hands replaced his, undoing both quickly before pushing them down and letting them pool at your ankles.
Jongho turned you away again, pushing you over the counter with one hand while the other snuck between your thighs, feeling your wetness on his fingers. “Shit,” he groaned. “No panties and already so wet for me?”
You groaned as he pushed you down by the back of your neck, your cheek pressing against the cool countertop while his fingers worked against your clit from behind. “Doesn’t take much to get you goin’, does it, baby?”
You moaned as three of his fingers plunged into your aching cunt, the stinging quickly replaced with a burning desire. He didn’t let you adjust to the intrusion, instead moving his fingers in and out of you rapidly, trying to stretch you to take him.
A moment later, his fingers slipped out and you whined, pushing back against him as he chuckled. You heard the clink of his belt and the unzipping of his pants before he pushed them down just enough to pull his cock free.
Using your wetness on his fingers, Jongho gave his cock a couple strokes before aligning himself with your entrance. He gave no warning before pushing himself into you, eyes fluttering shut as your walls welcomed him. You groaned as he bottomed out, the hand on the back of your neck holding you in place as his other hand moved to your hip.
“Fucking hell, baby,” he gasped. “Are you not getting fucked properly?”
You whimpered as he pulled back, snapping his hips forward and driving the head of his cock against the gummy spot inside your walls. “You’re so damn tight.” Another moan slipped out as he set a steady pace, cock hitting all the right spots.
“Ah, shit,” you hissed, palms pressed against the flat surface of the kitchen island. “Don’t stop.” Jongho let out a huff as he shook his head. “Don’t plan to, doll.”
Your walls clenched around him at the pet name, making him chuckle. “Is that what does it for you?” He asked. “This whole time I’ve been calling you that, you’ve just been squeezing around nothing?”
You whimpered loudly, nodding as his hips continued their assault.
Jongho let out a groan. “Goddamn, you’d think after three sections, you wouldn’t be this fucking tight anymore.”
Your stomach lurched, trying to lift your head to look back at him but you couldn’t. His grip was too strong as he held you down against the counter. “What did you just say?” you gasped. Jongho growled, hips slamming into you from behind, the sound of his skin hitting yours filling the room.
“You’re such a slut, you know that, doll?”
You groaned, walls tightening again. “Letting four guardians fuck you? And you seem to enjoy it. Only sluts do that,” he continued.
You tried to respond but you couldn’t. You were left speechless.
How did he know about the others? There was no way he could know. Yet somehow so did Wooyoung. The Horror Section Guardian knew about Yunho, so why did you think Jongho would be any different?
“Collecting keys,” he murmured. “You really expect me to fall for that bullshit?”
His hips didn’t slow as he continued to fuck you from behind. “Aliens, spider creatures, and lords? Tell me doll,” he said, giving you a particularly harsh thrust and stilling deep inside you.
“How were they?”
The question caught you off guard. “W-what?”
“Hmm? How was that alien cock?” Your walls clenched as you remembered your encounter with Yunho, the tentacles exploring your uterus, his unbelievably long tongue filling your pussy and the huge knotted cock filling you with a ridiculous amount of cum.
“And how well did that spider creature bind you with his web before he pumped you full?” A shiver ran up your spine as you remembered the purple and indigo colors of Wooyoung’s thick cock and the way he tied your body so expertly with his webs.
“What about that feudal lord? Was he rough enough for you?” You let out a groan, remembering the way San pinned you to the table and had his way with you at dinner. The way he ate you out and then teased you with the tip of his cock before slamming it all into you and making it hard for you to walk after.
You pushed back against him, earning a growl, something you hadn’t heard from any of the other guardians before.
It was deep, animalistic and almost… demonic.
“How. Was. It?” He asked again, the same deep, growling voice that sounded completely unlike him as he punctuated each word with a hard thrust.
“Obviously it must be good if you keep coming back for more,” the deep demonic voice said. “J-Jongho,” you gasped only for the voice to chuckle darkly.
“Wrong answer, doll,” the voice said and your eyes snapped open, heart hammering as you pushed yourself up and turned to look back at Jongho who stared back with a peculiar look.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” he asked, stopping his movements and looking at you with concern. You quickly glanced around the flat, eyes scanning but saw nothing out of the ordinary. ‘What the hell was that?’
You felt Jongho’s hands on your shoulders soothingly. “What’s wrong?”
You shook your head. “Sorry,” you said softly. “I… I must have spaced out.” Jongho leaned over your back. “Do you want to stop?” You shook your head. “No,” you answered. “Keep going, please.”
Tumblr media
Despite the weird voice thing, nothing else of note happened for the rest of the night and Jongho seemed determined to set a record, giving you a total of 6 orgasms, something not even your long sessions with Yunho had done.
From the counter, you ended up in Jongho’s bed where he busied himself between your thighs for what felt like hours. After drawing a couple orgasms out of you with his tongue, he was back balls deep in you, one of your legs over his shoulder as his hips moved rhythmically, each thrust having you seeing stars.
“Fuck,” you groaned, back arching off the mattress. “M’gonna cum,” you gasped. “Let go, baby,” Jongho groaned. “Cum for me.”
Your walls convulsed around him as you came for the sixth time that night, Jongho following quickly as his thrusts grew more erratic, chasing his own high until he finally came with a low moan, cock twitching as he filled your pussy with spurts of white hot seed.
“Fuck,” he cursed, hips stilling as his cock twitched inside your warm walls. You panted heavily, trying to catch your breath as he pulled out of you and rolled onto his back beside you. “Where the hell do you get all that stamina from?” you asked, staring up at the ceiling. Jongho let out a breathless laugh.
“I could ask you the same thing,” he replied. “What was that, six orgasms?” Your cheeks burned in embarrassment. “You’re the one who gave them,” you retorted, turning your head to look at him. He gave you a smug smile. “Yeah, I did, didn’t I?”
Rolling your eyes, you turned away from him. “Okay Mr. High and Mighty,” you replied, sitting up and swinging your legs over the edge of the bed. “Where are you going?” Jongho asked, watching you. “Bathroom,” you replied, getting up, legs trembling slightly as you stood.
Jongho watched as you carefully made your way to the bathroom, no doubt feeling proud that he was the reason you were so wobbly and unstable.
After doing your business, you returned to find him passed out, sheet pulled up to his waist. As quietly as you could, you dressed and walked over to where his pants lay, picking them up and pulling the key to the desk from his pocket.
With one last look back at him, you headed for the door, opened the door and headed down the stairs to his office.
Once there, you hurried over to the desk, kneeling down to unlock the desk drawer and pulled it open. They cloth lay inside and inside that was the key. You grabbed it, pocketing it before shutting the drawer, standing up and leaving his key and a note on the desk, thanking him and apologizing.
With your prize in your pocket, you headed for the door, stopping to pull on and tie your boots before opening the door and slipping out, shutting it behind you and hurrying to the lift.
The return trip always seemed shorter than when you left and soon you were approaching the door leading back into the lobby where Seonghwa was waiting for you, sitting behind the desk with one leg crossed over the other. He watched with narrowed eyes as you approached, setting the key on the desk.
He stared up at you wordlessly before taking the key and placing it in the box.
“Did you have fun?” He asked, all amusement in his voice gone. You gulped at the tone and the look he gave you. “Define fun,” you replied, regretting it instantly as Seonghwa got up and rounded the desk in the blink of an eye, he pinned you against the desk. “You think this is a game?” He growled.
You shook your head, eyes wide with terror. The angelic appearance you’d grown accustomed to shifted for a brief period, allowing you to see some of the true creature beneath the facade.
And it was terrifying.
Realizing what he’d done, Seonghwa let go of you and took a step backwards. “There isn’t much time,” he said, looking at his hands before balling them into fists and looking at you. ‘Much time?’ You wondered. ‘Much time for what?’
Seonghwa turned to look at you.
“You have to hurry.”

You walked to the section labelled Mystery & Crime and headed down the first row, scanning the books as you went. About halfway through you started to feel a sort of pull, like something was drawing you towards a certain place in the section. The closer you got to whatever it was, the stronger you felt the pull. Finally you came to a stop in front of a large book that seemed to be glowing around the edges. There were no words on the spine, so you picked it up to see what the title was.
As soon as you did so, the book flew open on its own and a blinding white light filled your vision. When it became unbearable, you closed your eyes until it abated. Upon opening your eyes, you found yourself in an unfamiliar place. A sudden headache pounded into existence as a flood of knowledge and memories that were definitely not yours filled your brain. When the pain subsided, you took a moment to survey your surroundings.
You were in a small room that looked quite old-fashioned. On a little table beside the head of the bed lay a newspaper bearing the date "June 5th, 1885" alongside the words "London, England". You felt your eyes go wide at the revelation that you'd been dropped right into Victorian Era London.
You looked down, expecting to see yourself in a pretty dress, only to be surprised by the sight of fitted slacks and a simple blouse. You felt the cool touch of metal in the small pocket on your blouse and fished the object out. It was a detective's badge, shiny and brand new. Confused, you looked around the room for any further clues.
Scotland Yard Employs First Female Detective
Below the newspaper headline was a picture of an older man standing next to a woman who looked exactly like you.
Then the memories that didn't belong to you kicked in and you were able to figure the whole thing out.
This version of you had just been given full status as a detective, and was close to solving your first solo case. Looking at the notes scattered about on the desk across from the bed, you'd successfully discerned where the criminal would be this very night. All you needed to do was arrest him and the case would be closed.
When you found the time you planned to go after him and checked the pocket watch lying nearby, you let out a gasp. If you were going to get to him in time, you needed to go now. A flash of knowledge told you what to take with you, and after a quick call to the Yard to inform them where you were headed you were hurrying down the damp streets towards your destination.
Tumblr media
It didn't take long for you to leave the bustling city behind and enter the quiet countryside. Presently you came upon an old, abandoned cottage and knew you had arrived.
You felt weight in the pockets of your slacks, and investigating revealed a pistol and a pair of handcuffs. You put the handcuffs back but kept the pistol out, other memories showing you how to use it properly. Now, you were ready. Just before you went in you wondered if this criminal might be the Guardian, and if he was, how could you get the key from him without getting yourself killed?
You pushed the door open and words spilled unbidden from your lips. "I know you're in here, Jongho. You're under arrest, come out unarmed and with your hands up!"
A dark chuckle sounded from the doorway behind you and you whirled about. There stood Jongho, a young dark-haired man with a scarred face half-hidden by a black mask. His clothes were ill-fitted, clinging to the bulging muscles of his arms and legs.
You'd be lying if you said you didn't find him rather attractive, but that was not why you were here. Lifting your pistol a little higher, you again ordered him to raise his hands.
This time he obeyed your order, but instead of staying put he began to slowly walk towards you. No matter how many times you warned him to stay back, he kept advancing. You held your pistol at the ready, but were unsure if you should actually shoot him. As of yet he posed no direct or obvious threat to your person, so you couldn't claim self-defence.
You were pulled from your musings by a large hand wrapping around your own where they held your gun. Looking up you found Jongho maskless and standing right in front of you, a wide smirk on his face as he ripped the gun from your grip.
"Do I distract you, Detective?" His voice had a higher tone than you'd expected.
"N-No." You lied, the slight tremor in your voice giving you away immediately.
Another chuckle. "How very unprofessional of you. I'd expect more from a freshly promoted detective."
You glared at him, then launched yourself forward, hoping to knock him off his feet. Much to your chagrin, he remained on his feet and you felt an arm snake around your waist. You struggled against him, but to no avail. He had you firmly pinned against his body with an iron grip.
His free hand came up to circle your throat, eyes dark with an emotion you couldn't quite discern. "Be a good girl, and I might consider letting you go."
At his words your body went still, suddenly afraid of angering him and losing your chance at freedom.
A dark smile spread across his face and he moved his hand from your throat to dig through your pockets. The darkness in his eyes turned lustful as he pulled out the handcuffs and waved them in front of your face.
"We can have some fun with these if you'll be good for me. If you'd rather not, you'll have to leave without your criminal. What do you say, Detective?"
You took quick stock of your situation, weighing the options in your head. Leaving without bringing Jongho in would end your career before it had really begun, so you decided it'd be worth whatever was about to happen if you were able to arrest him in the end.
"All right then." You consented. "Go ahead."
A pleased smirk spread across his face and Jongho flipped you around, unceremoniously dumping you onto the floor. Your back hit first and then your head knocked against the hard ground, leaving you slightly dazed. This allowed Jongho to slip the handcuffs on your wrists with relative ease.
Tumblr media
When the fog in your head cleared, you found your hands restrained above your head. Looking up revealed that he had cuffed you to a very sturdy pipe that was protruding from a ruined portion of the wall. The wood floor was cold on your back, and chills were making their way across your body. Jongho was nowhere in sight and you felt your heart sink. Had he just left you here?
Footsteps came slowly towards you, and you felt your heart rate pick up. Was it Jongho? Or had someone else wandered in?
A familiar dark-haired man came into view, and a confusing feeling of relief washed through you. You supposed you'd rather it be Jongho than a total stranger. Once more you wondered if he was the Guardian, only to be pulled back to reality by the feeling of your slacks being slowly pulled down.
You jerked your body, trying to get him to stop, but a firm grip on your hips put that to an end.
"Now, now, Detective. I thought you were going to be a good girl for me."
"Wh-What are you going to do to me?"
"We're gonna have some fun, Detective. Surely you don't object to that?" As he spoke he slipped your slacks all the way off and your underwear went with them.
You opened your mouth to reply, but all that came out was a moan as Jongho suddenly slipped a finger inside you, brushing your g-spot immediately.
"If you're a good girl, things will go quite well for you. But if you misbehave, there will be consequences. Understand?"
"Mmh, ah, yes!" You exclaimed, back arching as he added a second finger.
"Are you gonna be a good girl for me, hmm?"
You nodded frantically, feeling a bit too overwhelmed to speak. At this Jongho's fingers stilled, and a whine escaped you at the loss of movement.
"I need you to use your words, my dear. Can you do that for me?"
"Yes, I'll be good for you!" You managed, forgetting your original purpose as the desire to have his fingers back inside you blocked out all other thoughts.
A smile crossed Jongho's features. "That's my good girl. Do you know what good girls get, sweet Detective?"
"A re-reward!" You gasped the words as he inserted a third finger, stretching you out. The memories told you that you hadn't been with anyone in a while, but the burn felt pleasurable.
"That's right! And you'll get your reward as soon as you cum on my fingers."
His words went straight to your core and soon a coil of heat was growing in your stomach as you came ever close to your high. As if sensing this, Jongho began moving his fingers faster, thrusting deep inside you.
"Oh god, I'm gonna c-cum!"
"Already? So anxious for my dick to ruin your little cunt, aren't you? Cum for me little Detective."
He leaned forward, teeth grazing the skin of your neck before beginning to bite and suck at the spot.
The coil of heat snapped then and you let out a loud moan as your orgasm washed over you, your walls clenching around Jongho's fingers.
When you had calmed down a bit, he slipped his fingers out and pressed them against your lips. You opened your mouth and began sucking on them immediately, tasting your own juices.
After a few moments he withdrew them and pulled a small jar from some unseen pocket.
"Ready for your reward, Detective?"
"Yes!" You nodded your head frantically, thinking he was finally about to fuck you.
You flexed your fingers, wishing desperately that your hands were free. You wanted to touch him, to know what those muscles felt like as he pounded you into oblivion.
Something cold prodded at your folds before slipping in and you let out a surprised cry. After a moment of confusion, your arousal intensified as you realised Jongho was fucking you with your own gun. It was so wrong, and definitely dangerous, but in that moment it felt amazing.
The cold of the metal was a thrilling contrast to the heat of your core and your moans grew louder. He set a swift pace, faster than with his fingers, the shape of the gun fitting you perfectly and hitting all the right spots despite not being made for such a use.
"Look at you, coming apart on your gun like a little whore. Imagine what your fellow detectives would think if they saw you letting a criminal like me cuff you and fuck you dumb like this." Jongho chuckled, working the gun even faster as he spoke.
"You'd probably lose your position, maybe even go to jail for failing to do your job. Would it be worth all that just to have me inside you, sweet Detective? Would you become a criminal just so you could be my little cockslut?"
Your second orgasm came upon you fast and hard, so suddenly that you almost didn't have a chance to warn Jongho before you were cumming all over the gun and his fingers.
You could practically feel your body vibrating from the intensity of your high and you weren't sure if you could physically handle a third. You were so sensitive you thought you might need a moment before he did anything else.
You felt something hard brush against your entrance as Jongho leaned back over you and you shrank back, quivering. "N-No, too sensitive! Can't take it!"
"I think you can cum one more time for me, hmm? You'll be a good girl and cum all over my dick, won't you?"
His words sparked something within and you felt yourself getting wet again. "Y-Yes, wanna be a good girl. Please, fuck me!"
"There's a good girl. Don't worry, you'll get what you want, my sweet."
With that you felt him slowly enter you, his girth stretching your walls in the most delicious way. Hypersensitivity had you aware of every little drag and pull, enhancing the pleasure many times over.
"Fuck, you're so tight. I'll cum right away if you keep squeezing me like that."
You moaned loudly, pulling at your restrained hands in frustration. You wanted to touch him so bad it was driving you crazy. But since you were denied this, you chose to feel him in a different way.
"Faster please, wanna cum t-together."
"As you wish, Detective."
He began pounding into you, stuffing you full to the hilt with every thrust. You could feel your head getting fuzzy as your high rapidly approached, letting out cries and screams of pleasure as Jongho fucked you into the hard floor.
You felt teeth on your neck again as he wrecked you, marking you as his for the world to see. Your head was empty save for thoughts of Jongho and the pleasure he was inducing, no remembrance of why you were there or that this wasn't even real.
"Look at you, falling apart like the good little cockslut you are. Gonna stuff you full of my cum and ruin you for anyone else but me."
The waves of your high crashed over you with no warning, ripping a scream from your lungs as you were plunged into pure euphoric bliss. You'd never had an orgasm this intense and realised that Jongho was probably right: this would ruin you for any future rolls in the hay with others besides himself.
Jongho's hips began to stutter as your walls tightened around him. You could feel your consciousness beginning to grow hazy as he slammed into you one last time before filling you full of his cum.
Darkness edged your vision as you felt him slowly slip out of you.
"You were so good for me, my dear Y/N." Jongho murmured the words gently as his hands rubbed up and down your sides.
As your eyes fluttered closed you felt a soft kiss on your forehead and the press of cold metal in your palm. "I'll see you again soon my sweet."
His voice faded away as white light flashed through your closed eyes and you had the distinct sensation of falling for a moment before your eyes suddenly flew open.

You were back in the Library, your clothes and memories returned to normal. The only difference was the shiny gold key inlaid with many brown topazes that was clutched tightly in your right hand. Elated, you slipped the key into the pocket of your jeans and stood to your feet.
Scanning the plaques for the different sections, you chose to tackle History next. Taking a deep breath, you began to walk.

ENJOY!
You and your husband; king Park Seonghwa have not exactly gotten off at the right foot. To be honest, you couldn't stand each other, it was like that from the beginning. But out of all the women in the country you were chosen by the late King Seongwook, Seonghwa's father, to be his son's queen.
There was no other choice than to say yes, or you'd go to jail for denying your king's orders. So there you went, leaving your family and moving into Seonghwa's palace. It was grand and white, so white that every single piece of dust was easily detectable.
Seonghwa took it seriously, so he had about hundred servants ready to clean the entire palace everyday. Until today you haven't found out the reason for his clean-obsession yet.
You didn't know much about him, actually, even after 6 months of marriage. You got married in the cold winter, in a beautiful church. All the leaders of friendly countries were invited along with your family, watching you and Seonghwa put on a show.
That was only the third time you'd met him, and you felt repulsed by the way he pressed his lips on yours to 'seal the deal'. He was a good kisser, sure, but you couldn't stand his personality at all. You cringed everytime you looked at him.
Now you had been married for 6 months and everyone has been expecting the two of you to start creating your own family, put children on the earth to heir the throne once Seonghwa would step down or die.
But you and your husband barely spoke to each other in private, you didn't sleep in the same room and you had never had sex with him. Yet, you were aware you had to give in soon, everyone is waiting for you to give birth to the firstborn baby of the new generation.
For a while you figured they didn't have a say in what you did, baby or no baby. Then you started to realize the importance of it, and you decided to do it, let him do his thing for a minute or three and move on with your life.
You wandered the hallways of the palace, long dress flowing as you paced down the stairs. Suddenly you were taken aback by the flash lighting up the staircase. You looked outside the large window, resting your hands on the windowsill. Storm.
You knew Seonghwa was out tonight, there were rough battles going on in the country as the citizens fought each other over political cases you didn't understand. Seonghwa would visit the towns in conflict and even though you just feel hatred for him, you got worried.
You worried when he was away for too long. You'd check the stables to see if his horse had returned safely, or ask the staff. It puzzled you, how your feelings changed for him from time to time. There had been zero affection in those months, so what changed? The desire to be with someone, maybe? Him being your only shot at love, maybe?
The heavy rain ticking on the windows made you sigh as tears pricked in your eyes. The thunder was loud and the world turned darker and darker, angry grey clouds covering the sky.
Your body shivered, but you couldn't look away. Ever since you were a child and almost died in a storm you panicked whenever one happened near to you. The closeby lightning freaked you out more and you felt your breath start to pick up.
You sank down to the floor, arms wrapping around your knees. Your breath hitched as you tried to focus on your body, trying to relax. But the loud thunder and the bright lightning feared you. You shook and shuddered as you tried to stop panicking, tried to stop the tears from flowing down your cheeks.
"Y/N? What happened? Are you okay?"
You had never heard him be concerned about you before, but here he was. Your husband kneeled down in front of you, taking you in his arms. He had a few scratches on his hands and jaw. You figured maybe a villager attacked him, other than that he seemed fine.
"D-Do not go out again in a storm, Seonghwa. I'm fucking telling you, do not do that again!" You cried. Seonghwa's eyes widened as he saw how upset and scared you were and all he could do was nodd.
Suddenly the lightning struck closeby and the power went out immediately, making you shriek and hide in his chest out of fear. "You're really scared, aren't you? Okay, I'll fix it, stay here, I'll just get-"
"No, no, don't go, don't leave me," you pleaded. Your trauma kicked in and you felt it was hard to breathe. Seonghwa nodded, understanding how badly you needed someone with you right now. He took you in his arms and lifted you up, carrying you all the way to his bedroom, which was nearby.
Seonghwa sat on the edge of the bed and held you close, rocking you slightly to comfort you. "I'm sorry I went out in the storm without telling you... I didn't know you cared."
"I-I didn't know I did either," you sighed as you calmed down. "Storms just scare me and I worried about you... I thought you...could die out there."
"I won't just die... they call me king of swords for a reason, I can defend myself when I need to...," Seonghwa mumbled as he pressed an unexpected kiss on your cheek.
"Seonghwa...,"you whispered as you felt his hands slide over your body. "We need to talk about sealing the deal, consumating our marriage... We need an heir for the throne," Seonghwa said calmly. You nodded. "I know we do, we really do, I understand. It's just hard for me to be with someone without feelings."
"You don't have zero feelings for me," Seonghwa stated. You knew he was right and there was no going against him, he was stubborn and always got his way, winning any argument.
You nodded slowly and dried your cheeks. "I don't have zero feelings for you either, Y/N. You're still my wife, my queen and you're the one to birth my children, the future heir."
The beat of your heart was loud, breath shivering as you felt his fingertips graze your thigh. "You're right." The tension between you and him had never been this big before. Maybe it was the intimacy mixed with the feeling of his safe arms.
"Let me put a baby in you, please," he suddenly pleaded. You slid your hands over his chest, nodding slowly. "Let's do that."
His hands were fast, finding the buttons on the back of your dress, undoing them as he attached his lips to yours. You melt into his touch as your lips move against each other. The kiss soon got more heated as he took off your gown, leaving you in your white, angelic lingerie.
Seonghwa looked at you in true awe for the first time, laying you down on the bed. He discarded himself of his clothes quickly, revealing his toned body. The only thing covering him was his underwear, something you had never wanted to take off of him so badly before.
His lips attacked your body, peppering kisses down your neck and chest, licking the valley of your breasts. You didn't expect Seonghwa to be this intimate and sensual, since you had prepared for a simple session of penis-in-vagina for 3 minutes.
But Seonghwa proved himself to be different, undoing your bra and focussing on your breasts. He licked and sucked on your nipples, making you whine out loud. "Fuck, Hwa," you moaned.
He smirked as he kissed down your stomach. "New nickname? I like it." Your husband slid off your panties, revealing your glistening wet sex. "Already this wet for me? I didn't peg you for an easy one, love."
You blushed lightly as he spread your legs and licked a stripe up your pussy. "Tastes so good, precious," he mumbled as he slid his tongue through your folds. Precious.
You didn't know what exactly changed between the two of you, but something definitely did. You felt your body tingling all over, back arching when Seonghwa's tongue entered you.
His tongue was rather skillful and sinful at the same time. He looked up at you as he fucked you with his tongue. You wanted to look away but you couldn't, letting out moans with every thrust of his long tongue.
Your eyes never lost contact with his and it only made you wetter, arousal building up inside you. "Seonghwa, fuck~ that feels so good!"
Seonghwa grinned a little as your moans picked up, becoming more frequent and louder, noticing you were getting close to your climax. He thrusted 2 of his fingers into you as he moves your tongue from your hole to your clit, licking it up and down, flicking it with his tongue.
"Fuck, I'm gonna cum, Hwa, gonna fucking cum," you moaned loudly, running your hands through Seonghwa's soft raven locks. Seonghwa moaned against your pussy at the words, clearly getting off of your pleasure.
It didn't take long before you came hard, unraveling on his tonghe and fingers. You moaned loudly, and Seonghwa swore to God it sounded like an angel singing. He rode out your orgasm and moved away from your wetness.
You panted softly as you watched him take off his underwear, revealing his long hard cock, truly a sight to behold. The title of King surely fit him in every way. You gestured him to sit on the edge of the bed as you got on your knees for him.
"Oh, sweetheart you don't have to do this," Seonghwa quickly said, showing a softer, more gentle side of himself. "I want to... I want your cock in my mouth... I want to get you ready to fuck a baby into me," you breathed out, stroking his cock with your fingers.
Seonghwa threw his head back when he felt his cock slide into your hot, wet mouth. The feeling of your tongue flattening against the throbbing vein on his length as you bobbed your head up and down made him go crazy and moan your name loudly.
"Fuck, yes baby, you're taking it so well," he grunted as he thrusted forward into your mouth, making you gag slightly on his length. When he felt himself getting close he pulled you off his length.
You knew for sure this wouldn't be the last time you'd be intimate with him. It felt just right, and you'd be lying if you said you weren't dying to have him cum all over your body. But that'd be a waste of time if you're trying to have a baby.
You got on the bed and laid on your back, spreading your legs for Seonghwa. He was quick to hover above you, aligning his cock with your entrance. "You ready, princess?" "I'm actually your queen, Seonghwa, but I'll let the nickname slide. Yes I am."
Seonghwa grinned. "You're right, my queen," he said, hissing as he entered you slowly, pushing his cock inside entirely. You whined at the stretch of his big cock inside you.
He was quick to thrust his hips into you, immediately hitting the sensitive spots inside you. "O-oh, Seonghwa!" You moaned loudly, gripping onto his hair. "Fuck, baby, I love your wet pussy, such a greedy little pussy," he moaned.
You pulled his hair back, making him grunt out your name. His thrusts became faster, rougher and harder with every moan you let out.
"So good, so good!" "Yeah, baby? You like my cock? Like my cock in your wet little pussy? Bet you wanna be bred by me so bad, wanna be filled up so bad," he grunted. Seonghwa fucked you so well, beyond your expectations.
You learned the king wasn't one for a quick fuck and go, he took his time and he fucked you deep and hard, passionately, making sure you were feeling good. He was an amazing lover and you already knew this was going to be a daily occasion from now on.
His brows furrowed together as his thrusts got more sloppy, signaling he was close to his climax. "Fuck, baby, I'm gonna cum, gonna breed you full of my cum, gonna but my baby into you," he moaned loudly.
"Yes! Breed me, breed me full of your cum, please, please give it to me!" You moaned loudly, clenching around his dick. You felt his member twitch inside you as he stilled his hips, releasing his seeds inside your cunt.
Your walls spasmed around him as you reached your second orgasm, moaning his name loudly. He rode out your orgasms slowly, milking himself dry inside you. He then slid his cock out of you as he laid next to you, panting loudly.
"I hope it worked," you said after a few minutes of silence. "For whatever it's worth, I think you're really good." Seonghwa smiled and took you in his arms. "You're really good too..."
"I'm sorry for the way I treated you before. I promise to treat you with more respect from now on," he spoke as he kissed your head. You weren't sure if it was an act of love or his way of doing aftercare but your repulsed feeling did not show up. Your heart beat faster. You even smiled.
"Me too," you said as you kissed his cheek. Maybe you and the king of swords were meant to be after all.

It wasn’t until the click on the lock resounded in your skull that you realized you were now in Hongjoong’s office, standing awkwardly before his desk still trying to wrap your head around what you just saw. He was quiet, only the sound of his breathing indicating that he was behind you: deep inhales and shaky exhales.
Swallowing hard and licking your dry lips, you managed to call out. “Captain…?” It was all you could manage because where exactly did you start with the questions? Hell, what even were your questions?
“I know. Fuck I know.” Grumbling he moved around you and leaned back against his desk, head slumped forward. “I would ask you to ignore the things he said, but we both know that’s not going to happen. You’re too stubborn.”
Hongjoong had been neither welcoming nor unwelcoming until this point, seemingly giving you orders just to keep you busy or because that was his job, but really you couldn’t figure out the enigmatic Captain. You knew he valued the opinion of his team, the Vice the most, and that he would do things without an explanation and they all just trusted him enough not to ask. But you were also well aware some things that had been said just didn’t add up to what you expected a unit like this to run: maybe it was more so that it was things your unit would never say or do.
The sudden thought was jarring, a frown pulling at your lips. You shouldn’t be thinking about them when they weren’t your unit anymore- and they proved the way they did things was just not for you either.
Was it any better here?
Before you could dwell on that question, Hongjoong continued. “To answer one of the questions I know is in your head: yes we do have sexual relations with each other in the unit. Did you think I, or San for that matter, flirted just to do so?”
“To be honest, I refused to give it much thought.” You replied dryly, still reeling a bit. To think they would be open about sex with each other? Not only coworkers, but other men. How were they so open minded to such concepts but were so adamant about not needing you or welcoming you? Hell, Jongho continued on a daily basis to remind you that he didn’t like you. Did they think you were going to judge them?
Did they think you were going to be such a priss about it?
One glance at Hongjoong and you relaxed: of course, they thought you were. These men were a tightly knit group, and you were an outsider forced upon them. They trusted each other, now realizing on a much deeper level than you suspected, and they didn’t want you a part of that.
That shouldn’t hurt.
“But it’s not really my business is it? It’s not like you’re making me watch, nor forcing me into the same boat. Who you all fuck is really not my concern.” You clarified, attempting to ease the frown on his brow.
It just deepened, your name tumbling from his lips. “We know it’s against regulations and policy-”
“And? You think I’m going to tell anyone? Would make me a fucking hypocrite, probably.” You scoffed.
He tilted his head in confusion. “Thought you didn’t do anything with your last unit?”
“Doesn’t mean I didn’t want to.” You fixed him with a hardened stare. “Not that they would’ve done anything, they are so adamant about following the rules. And I’d rather you not press. That is what you want to tell me, isn’t it? Keep my nose out of it as much as I can?”
His eyes widened a bit at your attitude, shaking his head as he stood up. “That’s not- fuck. You seem upset about that.”
“Why would I be upset?” Okay, the way you snapped it out definitely said you were. Trying to take a deep breath, you shut your eyes for a moment. “With all due respect Captain, I’m not here to get close or be nice; I just want to do my job and help where I can. One unit has already kicked me to the curb, I would rather that not be repeated, so you can rest assured I won’t do anything to draw the board’s attention. It would be the word of a troublemaker against yours anyways, and that is a battle not worth my time. So if you want me to keep my nose out of your personal life, so be it. Is there anything else you wanted to say?”
Opening your eyes to his mouth hanging open wasn’t what you expected, but the lack of immediate response was enough of an answer for you. “Very well, I’ll take my leave.” You turned on your heel with a hardened expression, reaching the door quickly and stumbling with the lock.
The door was slammed shut before you got to open it far, Captain’s hand holding it shut while the other caged you in. Again he muttered your name, breath fanning against the back of your head telling you just how close he was. You attempted to ignore the way your heartbeat skyrocketed, and the heat that tinged your ears.
“Yes, Captain?” You breathed out in response, hand still on the handle and not moving.
“I didn’t bring you here to warn you to stay out of it… I’m offering to give you an explanation to any questions you have.”
His tone was sweet, soft, almost pleading… and it disarmed you in a way you didn’t like. “I don’t have any questions right now, Captain. I’m still trying to process all that happened.” The questions that did come to mind weren’t ones you believed he could answer- no he wasn’t the one you wanted to ask. “When should I expect field work?” You asked instead, turning your head slightly and breath catching in your throat.
Hard to ignore how gorgeous he was when his face was right there.
“I’ll talk with Seonghwa, we’ll figure out how to implement you into the field and then Wooyoung and San will brief you before you go. Give us a few days to put it together, alright firecracker?” His thumb was on your chin, turning you a bit more so you were more face to face.
You felt almost hypnotized by how soft he was, the touch solidifying that even more for you. “A-alright Captain. What should I do for now?”
“How about you head home for the day and just relax? Go over your notes or go to the shooting range downtown? One of the others can go with you?” He ran his thumb just under your lip, gaze dipping before a second before locking onto yours. “Would you like that?”
“Maybe. I’ll take the day off then.” You weren’t sure you wanted to be here anyways. Not without looking at all of them and trying to figure out who fucked who. Wooyoung’s earlier comment about the Captain and his office got to you- maybe that’s why you were so easily swayed by him right now?
He hummed lowly, dropping his hand and stepping back. “Good girl. Don’t worry about the rest. Go on.” He stepped away and leaned back against his desk, giving you ample space to leave.
You were too flustered to do anything but nod and leave. Didn’t even glance at the others, just headed for your desk.
San, the ever knight-in-shining-armor rushed after you though, calling your name.
“Yes?” Still feeling a bit dazed, you glanced up at him, chest tight as you were reminded of his injuries. “You didn’t have to run after me.”
“You don’t look okay, I was worried.” He looked you over, bringing his good hand up to your forehead and frowning. “You look like you have a fever but you're not that warm.”
“San- I’m just overwhelmed, please.” With much more calm than you were feeling, you reached up and grabbed his hand off your head. “I need to know though… about Wooyoung-”
“It’s just physical, I promise.” He interrupted, almost panicking. “He shouldn’t have- that wasn’t how- fuck I’m sorry you-”
You cupped his face, stopping his ramblings. “It’s okay, I’m not judging you or anything Sannie. Just… surprised. It’s… it’s just a lot to process. I knew you guys did things differently, I just didn’t expect this I guess? Don’t think this changes anything.”
He softened into a pout, bringing his hand to cover yours. “You fit in so well here sweetcheeks, I wish you knew that.”
You smiled wryly, pulling your hands away. “I don’t think I do. I’ll see you tomorrow, get some rest, okay?” You patted his uninjured shoulder as you passed him, not giving him a chance to prove you wrong as you rushed out the door.
You didn’t even grab your coffee.
Tumblr media
San returned to the back to see that chaos was one thin string away from exploding everywhere. Hongjoong stepped out of his office and fixed Wooyoung with a glare as he advanced.
“W-W-Wait a second Captain! We can talk about this- ngh!” Wooyoung scrambled back against his desk, just to be yanked forward by the collar.
“What the fuck was that? Huh Detective? Did you forget you are part of this fucking unit, that you are technically working as a policeman?” Hongjoong gritted his teeth, nearly throwing the man to the floor. “You nearly fucked up a little too much!”
Wooyoung tumbled to the floor, grabbing his glasses that had fallen in the process. “None of you told me about her!? What the fuck did you want me to do?”
“Keep your mouth shut!” San was the one to belt the words out, stepping over to his partner and planting his foot into his side. “Instead you just rambled and ranted in Wooyoung fashion. How the fuck does she know you as Mito? She wasn’t supposed to know!”
Yunho pulled San back, taking note of how pissed he was. “She should’ve been gone before you got back.” He winced when San shrugged him off, putting distance between him and the others.
“Then why isn’t she? Will someone explain to me what the fuck I missed and why you’re getting all huffy over a broad that ‘should’ve been gone’? Huh?” Wooyoung looked around, spotting Yeosang and relaxing a bit. “Sangie?”
Yeosang fixed him with a slightly colder stare than usual, tension in his jaw. “You should’ve asked instead of questioning how none of us fucked her yet. She’s a detective, not one of the women your mother- you’re used to being around.”
Wooyoung narrowed his eyes as he pushed himself up onto his knees. “Were you about to bring my mother’s work into this?” His voice was dangerously low, the already heavy tension growing in the room.
Yeosang seemed just as taken back by his own words, shaking his head and glancing down at the drink in his hand. Wooyoung took notice, then glanced at San who was still watching him with a fixed glare. With a look of understanding, he stood up. “Got it, fine. Anyone willing to fill me in? Or do you want me to continue trying to fuck her?”
The way San straightened just confirmed Wooyoung’s suspicions. But it was Hongjoong that answered, arms crossed over his chest. “She was forced to transfer from her old unit. Higher-ups approved her transfer here-”
“Let’s be honest, they were hoping she would throw us off.” Jongho spoke up, reminding them he was there as he put his gun back together. “And at this rate, she will. Some of you are getting too fucking buddy buddy and that’s going to blow everything we worked for if she digs too much.”
“Well if she is going to blow it, Wooyoung just gave her plenty of ammunition. Should we move up our plans?” Yunho chided in, standing up and stretching. “Mingi and I already set up the bait like you asked. It’s only a matter of time before it’s taken.”
Seonghwa shook his head. “If she was going to be a whistleblower, I feel like she would have been given an offer by the higher-ups: give them information to tear us apart and all her bad rep goes away. With how much she misses her old unit, I assume they still might give her the ultimatum. What do you think, Joong? You pulled her aside to gauge what she would do with this information.”
Hongjoong shrugged, shaking his head. “Hard to tell. She said she wouldn’t, that she doesn't care what we do. I think she was being honest. You would know better though, wouldn’t you San?” He glanced over at him. “You’ve been with her the most.”
“She won’t. It’s not harming anyone so she won’t feel the need to do anything about it. And if she is offered redemption for information on us, she won’t do that either. She feels pretty betrayed by her last unit for kicking her this way, so she wouldn’t do anything that would cause us harm, despite some of us deserving it.” San snarled at Wooyoung and then glanced at Jongho. “She’s loyal to her own moral code, probably loyal to some of her old unit but she doesn’t feel as if she has to work with them to be loyal. Higher-ups won’t do anything to jeopardize that unit.”
“But the other enemies might. They catch wind of her-”
“Don’t even entertain that idea, Jongho.” San stepped forward.
Seonghwa sighed, sharing a look with Hongjoong. “I think we have to make a decision, as a group. Either way is going to be a risk. We either fight for her to transfer out, or we decide to integrate her.”
A chorus of protests rang through the office, some louder than others.
“Then we fight for the transfer?”
Wooyoung scoffed. “Yeah no, let me get this straight first. That beautiful woman gets forced to transfer out of her last unit and ends up here because the higher-ups insist?”
“Apparently she requested it because they made her choose- and we are the farthest from her last precinct.” Seonghwa mumbled, indulging the information she had said in their office. “The board and commissioner just pushed it instead of trying for elsewhere.”
“Okay okay- so she is forced to transfer by the unit, the very people she trusted, and was hurt enough by that to go as far as she could from them? Yeah?” He looked around, some of them unable to look them in his eyes. “And it sounded like you all gave her piss poor treatment since she got here.”
“Sounds about right.” Even Jongho looked away, a little guilty.
Wooyoung scoffed, rolling his eyes. “And yet some of you are getting so fucking offended over my talk of having her on my cock- that right fucking there Choi San, you’re obvious.” He pointed at his friend who had stepped forward ready to punch him. “So we are just gonna- what- push her away and break her even more because none of us want to give her a chance?”
The atmosphere felt even more grim as his words weighed on their shoulders.
“It’s not as simple as that- we worked too hard to take that chance!” Jongho stood up, fire blazing in his eyes. “I'm not going to let her problems get in the way of what we already accomplished! So what if she gets hurt? If she can’t trust us or blames us for turning her away? You want her to sacrifice the things we have? Want this to be her life?”
“Jongho has a point- we accepted this, all of us made this our responsibility because of our own reasons, our own choice. We can’t expect her to do the same. Does she even have any ties, Yeosang?” Yunho glanced over at the quiet man, who just shook his head. “She made it personal over a dead kid she arrested a few times? Big whoop.”
San narrowed his eyes on Yunho. “When did you find out about that? It was just Hwa and I-”
“Heard you talking it over with her.” Mingi grumbled next to him, apparently in a sour mood.
Hongjoong cleared his throat. “Then I think you two would find that the most relatable, wouldn’t you? With your own experiences?”
Mingi scoffed, shifting into the chair but Hongjoong continued. “You could’ve been that dead kid Mingi, you know that. We all know that. But officer Jeong-”
“Captain, I know where you are going with this and please don’t. We don’t need you comparing her to my dead fucking father.” Yunho fixed the smaller man with an intense glare.
“Sure we do. If we keep her on, it’s likely she’ll meet the same fate.” Hongjoong was unphased as Yunho slammed his hands on the desk, pivoting on his foot to step away and run his now shaking hand through his hair. “So you agree?”
Wooyoung rolled his eyes. “Back to what I was saying! Our options are to force her onto another team, which sounds like she is the type to get in way over her head wherever she is anyways, or take her on fully and let her help. And it seems like you already gave her plenty of ammunition on the green vipers, which, I’m assuming is where her personal vendetta you so graciously mentioned came from? If we’re talking about that newest kid that got killed- who is to say she won’t do what some of us have thought of?”
Several men in the room stiffened, guilty of the assumption.
San was the first to speak after a drawn-out silence. “She would too. You don’t have to spend much time with her to know she would. Fuck! I don’t like what you’re implying, Wooyoung!”
“I’m not the only one. Right Captain?” Wooyoung smirked at him. “You’re so pissy with me because I forced your hand too soon, but this was your plan? She fits in here, I noticed that and I just met the chick.”
All attention switched to Hongjoong, his own expression impassive. It was a gentle nudge from Seonghwa that had him speaking up. “She’s made incredible progress, even suggesting something we hadn’t thought of. Mentally she is a great detective, and strategist, and would make a valuable asset to the team-”
“You have to be fucking kidding me? You can’t be serious, Captain!” Jongho was the one to slap his hands on the desk now, sneering at him. “Absolutely not!”
“This isn’t just your decision Jongho!” San stepped over to him. “Test her if you want, but she does fit.”
“Maybe on your cock.” Mingi threw out, in an even more sour mood.
San rolled his eyes. “Fuck you Mingi.”
“Come do it then.”
“QUIET!” Seonghwa yelled out, silencing the room and halting the movements of everyone; even Yunho turned back around to take it all in. “Your Leader was speaking, and you will listen.”
Hongjoong waited until all attention was back on him. “I’m not saying she knows everything, or be completely involved right away, but she would be a valuable asset. So we bring her in, find a place in this all where she could be helpful but won’t infringe on our other works. A few months, maybe a year, and then we can decide. Either she trusts us, works with us, or we handle things properly. After all… wouldn’t be the first time a cop dies on the job, right?”
With solemn expressions, each one of them nods, calling out in unison “Yes, sir.”
Wooyoung took note of a few things that had him believe it wasn’t going to be so black and white… and he was excited to see how this unfolds.

Author's Note: Hi guys! This is the very first story that I grew courage to post on here, so please be kind! I would also like to just kind of let you know that this is a work in progress so updates may not be as quick and they will be pretty slow as I am quite busy with work although I'm quite a bit ahead in the story writing wise so in the mean time I have enough chapters to be able to post. I really hope you guys enjoy the story! 💜
‧⋆ ✧˚₊‧⋆. ✧˚₊‧⋆‧‧⋆ ✧˚₊‧⋆. ✧˚₊‧⋆‧‧⋆ ✧˚₊‧⋆. ✧˚₊‧⋆‧‧⋆ ✧˚₊‧⋆.
After being called into a crime scene, I finally arrive to my destination and notice a couple of bystanders and a few journalists outside the hotel, I show my police shield to the officer guarding the crime scene and I head inside. I look around and notice the beautiful crystal chandelier on the ceiling and the beautiful marble floor of the lobby. I’m assuming it’s another one of Aurora Syndicate’s rival gang member’s death. I head over to the presidential suite of the hotel and there he was, a man who was around his 50’s bludgeoned to death, judging by his clothes he had a lot of money too. While my mind was focused on the crime scene I feel a hand on my shoulder interrupt my thoughts then I turn and realize it’s my partner Detective Christopher Bang “ Hey, I genuinely thought you weren’t going to come since it’s past the time you get off” He gives me a smug smirk judging from the tone of his voice. I shrug keeping my eyes focused on the victim’s position.
“Well, duty calls. Besides it has to do with AS so you know I’m up for this. So, whose this guy? He looks like he’s loaded" Chris takes out his notepad and hands it to me for me to read “Well, the guy’s name is Shiro Ito judging from his bank cards and identification used to get this room. He was allegedly involved in laundering money for The Aurora Syndicate, my guess he might have been stealing or giving out information which is why they probably killed him.” I slowly nod then I hand Chris his notepad back “Makes sense why they would have killed him, were his records clean?” He nods “Yep, clean as a whistle. The receptionist downstairs told me he was the owner of a few clothing stores which makes sense and is probably how he was able to launder money for so long without being questioned.” I get a little closer to the body and I look at the impact wounds. The wounds looked very deep, something very personal was the reason this man was killed. The suspect is definitely not a female, judging by the severity of the wounds it was definitely a male. I shift my gaze over to the man’s hands whom was holding on to something tightly.
With my gloved hands I pry open the victim’s right hand to reveal a cuff link with a beautiful iridescent stone. My face instantly lights up and I put it in an evidence bag. “Chris, this was not a woman who killed him. Look, a cufflink with an Aurora Borealis stone and it doesn't belong to Mr. Ito, he took it off of the attacker while he was trying to fight him off. If we find who this cufflink belongs to we've got our guy.” Chris’ eyebrows slightly raise while crossing his arms in front of him “Narrowing it down won’t be too hard, I’m positive it’s someone in the AS’ inner circle hence the name of the stone.” I turn and hand it over to a crime scene technician “Put this in evidence please this one is very important.” the technician nods and marks the evidence, I look back over to my partner who was engrossed looking at his notebook and I let out a small yawn “I’m heading home now, I’m exhausted. You mind finishing up here? I'm also almost finished with the police report from the last case so I'll turn it in first thing tomorrow cool?” He nods while he puts away his notepad in his back pocket and looks to me with a small smile “Yeah for sure, see you tomorrow.” I wave goodbye and I head back to my car and drive home for the night.
While I driving home I begin to think about that cuff link. Whose is it? And why was Mr. Ito killed? Hopefully we’re able to get the suspect’s print off of the cuff link but I highly doubt that since it’s probably covered in Mr. Ito’s prints.
When I arrive at my apartment complex, the lights to the parking lot are busted so it was kind of dark but not enough to where I couldn’t make things out. While I carefully get out of my car and I start to walk to my apartment. While I look through my purse to find my house keys I hear the cocking of a gun behind me “Take one more step In that direction and I will kill you.” I jump up and I turn around dropping my purse on the ground. I focus on both figures both dressed in black one was average height with jet black hair framing his face, and a tall one with blonde-brown hair. I raise my hands slightly to show I have nothing in my hand then the tall one removes my gun from my holster. The guy with the black hair grumbles “Mingi hurry up, I have a feeling someone saw us.” The dark haired male grabs me and points a gun to my lower back while his hand covers my mouth and nose with a cloth “If you scream things will get much worse from here, you wanted to be the hero so now’s your chance to take the fall.” Mingi the tall one, walks up to me and injects something into my neck, zip ties my hands and slings me over his shoulders like a rag doll. I have to fight to stay awake. I have to at least see the vehicle. I force my eyes open trying to stay awake whilst trying to free myself from Mingi's strong grip but my eyelids become unbearably heavy and I fall unconscious before I’m able to see the vehicle.
A few hours later, I wake up in a lowly lit room and quickly realize I'm tied up to a chair. Slightly groggy, I look around and see no one was in here. This empty room, is practically a near empty room with a crudely made empty bookcase behind me which looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years along with a mix of bunch of random debris on the ground and dried blood. I sigh then I yell out “Hello?! Let me out of here please!?” After yelling for what seemed like a little while I hear footsteps fast approaching, and soon the door clicks open. It was the dark haired guy who abducted me again. “So you finally woke up, it took you long enough.” He stands in front of me and stares me down all while I look up at him trying to show him I wasn’t scared of him which was an obvious lie considering how I was manhandled earlier so easily. “Why am I here? Who are you?” Completely ignoring my question he reaches over and squeezes my cheeks really hard to the point where I jerk my head back in pain unable to escape his grip “You know, I hate cops. I hate how they try to dig up your business.” I glare at him “Well, maybe you shouldn’t be getting rich off of illegal businesses and death. ” He lets out a mocking laugh and lets go of my cheeks slightly throwing my head back with force that was pretty aggressive “Wow, Detective you’re funny. You know not everyone grew up with the same stupid sense of right and wrong as you right? We do what we can to survive.” I shake my head “No, you and your stupid mafia sheep are just a bunch of idiots who will eventually fall victim to natural selection.” He grabs a fistful of my hair “Oh, we’ll see about that.” He leans in close to my face “I need the rest of the names of the cops who are working on the Ito case, you pigs have something that belongs to San.”
Oh god, is he talking about Choi San? So it was his cufflink, I should have known. I shake my head “No, I won’t tell you anything...” He mutters under his breath “You little- I seriously don’t have patience for you...” he grabs me by the collar of my shirt and punches me in the jaw. A sharp pain shoots through my jaw and the taste of blood fills my mouth, for a few seconds I look at him slightly dazed while I mumble “I’m not telling you.” He shakes me violently pulling me from the rope I'm tied to “Talk! I need those names now!” he pushes me back and I fall on my back and on my arms letting out a pained cry “No! I’m not going to tell you anything!” The male walks over to me and kicks me several times in the stomach causing me to let out pained screams and cough up blood. Slowly I start feeling like I was losing my consciousness again but before it happens he grabs me by the rope I was tied up with again and pulls the chair back up “Hey, are you passing out? Come on, tell me names and It’ll all stop. I promise.” He spits out mockingly. I shake my head while I look at the floor trying to dissociate myself from the situation I’m in. Blood profusely drips from my mouth onto my white collared shirt soaking through the shirt and feeling the dull drops of blood fall onto the fabric. One, two, three..
The dark haired man walks over to the corner of the room and grabs a crop whip and hits me so hard I could hear the whip crack. I let out a cry of pain and suddenly a thin, tall, dark haired man dressed all in black wearing a leather jacket comes in and grabs his shoulder “I think she’s had enough. You can stop hitting her now Wooyoung, she’s not going to talk.” Right after he comes in another man enters the room, he wore a wine colored dress shirt and some fitted dress pants with his dark hair slicked back and black rimmed glasses. It’s Choi San, the current leader of Aurora Syndicate. He looks exactly the way people described him to be. Handsome, cat like eyes with a jawline sharp enough to cut diamonds, and a very intimidating prescence. Wooyoung, slighty nervous knowing he messed up looks over at both guys and says “Seonghwa, San, I tried being nice but she was being so rude I didn’t have a choice.” San looks over at Wooyoung quite irritated and says “Can’t you ever follow orders? We need her alive. I never asked you to do this.” Wooyoung raises both of his hands and nods “Alright, alright fine. I’m sorry. I just thought that because you usually-” San turns to Seonghwa and cuts him off “ Seonghwa, please take her to the infirmary and ask Jongho to clean up Wooyoung’s stupid mess” San then makes his way over to me and kneels down, looks at me for a few seconds and lifts my chin up with his finger to meet his gaze all while wiping the blood off my chin with his thumb “I’ll talk to you later Detective, we have some things I wan to discuss.” he gets up and wipes the blood he wiped off of my chin onto Wooyoung's shirt. Slightly annoyed by this action, Wooyoung scrunches up his face in distaste and follows behind him leaving me alone with Seonghwa.
The man quietly walks over to me and uncuffs me from the chair. “That’s a lot of blood, I hope Wooyoung didn’t do too much damage.” His soft voice had some calming effect to where I was slowly coming back from my dissociation and felt a bit more grounded. He kneels next to me and for a few seconds he lets me recollect myself “Let’s go to the infirmary, hopefully you can get rest there.” Slowly tears well up in my eyes making my vision blurry. He lets out a soft sigh and gently pats my back “It’s okay, don’t cry. I can’t guarantee that nothing will happen to you but I suggest you just listen and answer the questions you’re asked.” I shake my head “No, I’d rather die than throw my whole squad under the bus.” He fixes my disheveled hair and says “I know, but trust me the faster you fess up the faster you’ll be able to leave. Just think about it, please.” He slowly helps me up and picks me bridal style in his arms.
While we head over towards the infirmary I break the silence by saying “Why are you being so nice?” For a few seconds he stays quiet until he finally responds “Well, I believe in treating people with kindness despite whether or not I dislike something about them. For instance, I don’t like the feds but that won’t stop me from being a decent human being.” I look up at him in sheer confusion “But you’re a literal criminal. You steal and kill people for a living.” A small smile appears on his face and he says “Criminal or not i’m still human. Remember, we all have reasons as to why we do things even if sometimes those things aren’t good.” He’s right, even the people on the other side of justice have their reasons for being criminals. Not everyone decides to do it because they want to be evil, most of the time it’s the lack of money, or a cry for help. Everyone is different.
When we finally enter the infirmary it smelled exactly like a hospital, intoxicatingly sterile. Jongho was at his desk on the computer but as soon as he sees me in Seonghwa’s arms he quickly gets up and walks over to us. Seonghwa gently sets me down on the examining table. Jongho looks at me for a brief second in horror then looks over at Seonghwa “What the hell happened? Why does she look like this?” Seonghwa looks at Jongho and says “It was Wooyoung, San got pretty upset about it too.” Jongho looks over at me and glances at the police badge around my neck making a very uncomfortable face and huffs under his breath “That bastard..” He uncomfortably smiles “ Seonghwa, I’ll take it from here thank you.” He nods and walks out the door closing the door behind him. Leaving Jongho and I alone.
Jongho puts on some latex gloves and he grabs his stethoscope from a drawer near his desk. He gently places the chest piece on my chest and does a whole routine check up listening to my breathing and what not, shortly after he finishes he puts his stethoscope around his neck and clears his throat “I listened to your organs and everything sounds fine, no broken ribs which is good. I see that your arms are quite red, so you might get bruises but no broken bones which is good news too. I also see that you coughed up blood but you’ll be okay you’ll just be sore for a couple of days the internal bleeding will heal on its own as it's not severe. I'm going to give you some pain killers, they’ll help for a couple of hours.”
After taking the medicine he proceeds to clean my busted lip “Thank you, but I have a question.” His eyebrows slightly raise “Oh, sure what is it?” I give him a pleading look and I say “Why am I here?” his face grows a little serious and he goes back to cleaning my wound “Oh, well you’re here because San Is looking for a family Heirloom he lost... That heirloom is so important to him because it was a gift from his father and to get it back he decided he was going to hold you for ransom until the police hands it over.” I sit there trying to process everything for a few moments then I respond “Isn’t that a little overboard for a cufflink?” Jongho shrugs “It is, but knowing how San is since he really treasures everything his father gave him. I’m sure he really doesn’t want to replace it and it’s understandable.”
San’s father, Junseo “The Phantom” Choi. He was killed in a shootout last winter at a restaurant he frequented. I look down at my police badge then I look over at Jongho “San could have just asked me to give it to him. It's really that simple.” Jongho shakes his head “I wish it was that easy but it’s complicated, let’s just say that your Captain and San’s family aren’t on great terms so in a way this is payback .This is as much as I can tell you because to begin with I wasn’t even supposed to tell you any of this so please just act like it’s the first time you’ve heard about it when San questions you.” I nod “Of course no worries. By the way thank you for not trying to kill me.” Jongho’s small smile comes back and he says “Of course, none of this is your fault to begin with.” Suddenly a guy with light grey hair that almost looks white comes in and says “Hey, I’m taking her from you San wants to talk to her. Is she clear for interrogation?” I give Jongho a worried look and he gives me a small reassuring smile, helps me get off the examining table and walks me over to the guy at the doorway “Yes Hongjoong, she's clear.”

Jongho x fem!reader, Yeosang x fem!reader love triangle, best friends > strangers > lovers - angst, mature (not smut), slice of life, romance you were always with yeosang, hips stuck together and hands glued to each other. he was all you knew and you were all he knew too for a while, but then you both grew up, one moving at a faster pace than the other. yeosang left you behind to awkwardly navigate the rest of an adventure—high school—without him while he embarked on a new one—college—by himself. the line of being best friends blurred somewhere along the way, and you find yourself crying on the night he promises to be someone else's because you love him. you've always loved kang yeosang ever since the days where he was trying to figure out who he was (an awkward and painful era for any teenager in middle school), loved him ever since his voice began cracking as it's tone deepened, loved him ever since he took you to that stupid and overpriced school dance in middle school despite not liking being in a huge crowd, you loved him ever since he began to become a quiet and reserved man. you hoped to be on the other side of things for once, on the other side of the line of being just best friends with kang yeosang; you realize now that it was stupid of you to ever have that sort of hope. and while you began to calm down, you wonder about what it's like being on the other side of a friendship. you don't know, but you hope to find out as you embark an adventure without him. but you didn't realize what it would it do to you and yeosang, and what it would do to you and choi jongho, your other best friend.
