sadness coats his smile, he does trust and care for noctis - probably the most out of the trio given how he treats the prince - but he also knows the other's fears. ignis wants to support the other until the end, but they both knew eventually, noctis has to do things alone. it was a cruel fate, and both of them are victims alongside gladio and prompto.

taking a seat, he fidgets with his gloves and looks down. ignis wants to be able to improve the other's confidence and help him relax, yet they both are doomed to be on a time limit against the insanity of daemons and imperial army that will not let them breathe.

"i wouldn't leave you for a second, noct." he agrees, before looking up at the prince and let out a nervous sigh.

"...but what if something does happen? are you really ready to fill in the void?"

It's a statement that takes him off guard not because Noctis didn’t believe it, but because that calm voice is one of the few that actively makes Noctis' stomach twist with equal amounts of resignation and resentment.

He may have been the decision maker and royalty, but more often than not he outright diverted to his advisor. On the spot Noctis could square his jaw and hold himself tall, but with so many clamouring for assurance on the edge of wartime and struggling to keep their head afloat, Noctis couldn’t soothe them all with his stunted reassurances.

Noctis couldn’t rely on a script to memorise anymore. Every hour was spent trying to make sure they can fight tomorrow. Their combat and survival training could get them through it, and the teases and elbows to the ribs would take their spirits high. His actions spoke louder than words in most scenarios, so he made an effort to clear out every daemon and feral monster that imposed on his poor people. They don’t have time to build his interpersonal relationship skills when the remnants of the kingdom is on the line.

a stagger in his step after being quite literally brushed aside, ignis was rather quick to turn his gaze to see the other run off like he had committed a murder of some kind. a weak apology was given disgruntled sound of annoyance as a reply - not that the other could hear it at least - before a quick dagger was conjured and thrown into the sleeve of the passer-byer.

nothing lethal, of course, it is not ignis' style... but pinning the other to a wall as a response for such a rude run by is valid in his books. plus, it gave him chance to catch up and study just who had the gall to do that.

"i'm sorry, but it seems you got in the way of my training." a blatant lie, but ignis was not going to pry immediately. a gloved hand grips the dagger, but does not quite yet yank out the blade. "then again, perhaps i can help you, if you tell me the truth on what is going on."
