I started Smoke and Shadow and was wondering something. I already read Fractures, but that was a long time ago, so the short stories in there (barring Shadow of Intent and Oasis ofc) are fuzzy for me. I know the start of this book is basically a retread of Into the Fire, but are there any differences between the two? I know it was definitely not broken up into chapters in the anthology. I also feel like the length might be different maybe?

i love going back to the roblox oof video at occasional intervals to scroll the comments section and get the latest tommy tallarico news. the latest includes:

he didnt work on any of sonic and the black knight's music, it was jun senoue rearranging some songs that one of tommy's employees wrote for other games previously. in even his most recent 'verified' video game composition credit is him just stealing credit as per usual

he recently was found to be selling off sheet music a composer (laura intravia) made for video games live to other orchestra shows with no permission given without ever having consulted her, so safe to say he is still managing to make money stealing other peoples' compositional work

As a child i did not even realize this was a little merm adaptation, but it really reads. She is sooo strange and other worldly and the movie absolutely captures that dreamlike fairy tale vibe

Ponyo a roughly five-year-old magical goldfish who can transform into a frog-type thing and a human girl. She's the eldest daughter of the literal goddess of the sea and a former human sailor given immortality. She falls in love with the five-year-old boy who cares for her and is thrilled to explore his ordinary yet magical world. She's bouncy, exuberant, and joyful. She loves ham. She doesn't have to give up her voice.

He's a bug and he lives in space on a bug planet but he really wants to be a starship ranger which you can only be if you are a human and then one day a spaceship lands on his planet and so he goes to an evil bug called Pincer who then helps him become a human. And Bug falls in love with a human on the spaceship and it's very sweet. The musical and storyline are based on the little mermaid story, the creators themselves called it "the little mermaid but in space". Bug wanting to be a human/a starship ranger and achieving that and falling in love with a human is very much like the little mermaid

Starship is a musical that can only be described as The Little Mermaid meets Starship Troopers. It follows Bug, an alien bug who dreams of being a Starship Ranger, a galactic explorer/soldier, but the rigid confines of bug society keeps him trapped in a job he hates. He reaches a Starship Ranger named February from the hive and immediately falls in love with her. In order to be with her and pursue his dream, he makes a deal with a giant scorpion named Pincer who through sci-fi bs gives him a human body. Near the end of the second act he sacrifices his human body and returns to his bug body, and saves the day and wins February's heart. It's truly the ultimate Little Mermaid. He has multiple songs, and his bug body is portrayed by a puppet!! Vote for Bug!!

They are the purest little mermaid adaptation done in the most unuque way. An alien insect gets turned into a human, a race he has always loved and admired, to be with the woman he fell in love with. Also just a great musical.

Bug's whole arc is so so in tune with that of the little mermaid. He is an alien who has fallen in love with humanity through a crashed spaceship and trades his place in the hive for a chance to be with both with the human he's falling for and to be a Starship Ranger. He body swaps with human in a cryogenic pod! It's literally sci-fi Little Mermaid!

Don't stick to the status quo and pick the fairy tale!! it's what HE would want!!!

Furina:

The layers of Little Mermaid symbolism in this, forming a heartwrenching onion in full. She’s and Oceanid who was turned into a human - just like everyone else in Fontaine but she got the extra bit of being cursed with immortality and had to pretend to be the Hydro Archon for 500 years all with the pressure that if she got found out the entire nation might die. Despite what it does to her mind, she fulfills her part of the plan faithfully, even to the point she’s begging and crying as the people put her on trial and condemn her, still trying to get these people to believe her lie since the apocalypse is about to happen and all she knows is they’re all about to die because she failed her part at the last possible second. The play she helps to direct and later has to take part in is also the story of an Oceanid that asks to become human, can’t tell anyone her secret identity, then sacrifices herself to save the land full of people that began to hate and condemn her. Her performance nets her a Vision, and honestly that tracks because the musical number we get to see is so beautiful, there’s a reason Hoyoverse uploaded multiple renditions of it. An extra layer is that the play is also symbolic to the former director of the trope she helps out who was also a big fan of her. Anyway, her story is one of Genshin’s best, maybe not being a 1:1 on the fairy tale but embodying the self-sacrifice out of love theme the original conveys. She really deserves another chance.

I love her and, even though we don't see her too much in the story, what we do see is absolutely wonderful and shows how much she truly embodies The Little Mermaid. (Also she's a swashbuckler, which is very cool)

💞 - favourite moment in a game - I'm going to cheat. The last episode of Spartan Ops has some of the best, most insane in-game dialogue and holds some of my favorite levels. I have a video of one of them here.

And The Ark level from Halo 3 - The Forward unto Dawn swooping in, Tank Beats Everything, Chief and his chieflings, "Shipmaster, they outnumber us, three-to-one!" - "Then it is an even fight." Halo 3 is my favorite because I played thousands of hours of it. It's etched into my soul. Spartan Ops made me insane and helped me cope through the combination pandemic/grad school hell. Both are microplastics in my brain now.

Fav AI.... well, it might be obvious that Roland is my fav halo ai. I have so many posts about him it's embarrassing, but we all need hobbies.

Fret, the anxious little pyramid dumb ai is my fav for Infinite's multiplayer. Cortana is still queen of my heart and I love The Weapon, but the little yellow nuisance has bewitched me. Sure hope he's alive somewhere and we get to see him before another 7 business years pass. But without the monkey's paw curling!!!!

I rly hate the Satanic Panic & the moral panic surrounding violence in video games in the 90s, coz it's now impossible to talk about the social implications of violent video games in a realistic sense.

No, violence in video games does not create serial killers in the way most people imagine it would.

However, it's very important to notice how after 9/11, a lot of violent video games pivoted their content from silly gratuitous cartoon gore to more realistic military shooters set in the Levant from a US American lens. It's also important to notice the connection of these games & their toxic online multi-player voice chats to Gamer Gate in 2014.

It's obviously not as black & white as it was presented in the 80s & 90s, I dont think everyone who played early Call of Duty games is a white supremacist who wants to join the military to kill people in the middle east, but I think it's dangerous to pretend like video games or any media can't have an impact on the way people think about violence.

I think what makes all the difference here is how that violence is portrayed, what the message behind it is, what the motives are behind the people who crafted that message, who the victims of that violence are, how they are portrayed & the greater cultural context that surrounds it.
