What I find frustrating about Karen Travissās work, and some of how Halo 4 era canon treated the big lodestones/inherent conceits of the settingāis that what made Halo work as a setting, to me, was the gray morality.
Itās that Halsey knew she was going to hell, in her mind, and hates herself with such a loathing fervor and yet she still pressed the metaphorical button on those spartan augmentations. Thatās fascinating!! Itās the core of her character, that she has this moral core that wonāt leave her the fuck alone!! That she goes through all that guilt and loathing despite it all. You cut those human qualities and sheās just a boring monstrous ego maniac.
Thereās smaller moments like Haverson killing an huragok, a civilian by all accounts, and justifying it under the greater good of preventing the covenant from gaining more advantage then they have already.
Halo is at itās best when the awful and deplorable actions are done with the implicit understanding of the stakes, that kidnapping those kids or signing up those orphans somehow ended up in a net positive of lives savedāthat the savior of the galaxy being the child soldier adds a grim post-hoc justification to his traumatic experiences.
Halo Envoy is a good example of this gray morality too, the entire book. It humanizes the ex-covenant by making them the victims, by putting them in the shoes of the countless human rufugees they created.
And need I mention Thel? The staple of Haloās āhow am i going to live with myself after what Iāve done?ā plot beats.
I love Halo when it presents these lose-lose moral quandaries, even when they seem straightforward in the eyes of the characters. I hate when it tries to ignore that part of the setting, to ignore nuance or character introspection on these issues.

What was it like figuring out Atriox was still alive?
Wasn't optimistic enough to assume he'd died.
Still disappointing.

Internalized ableism made it a lot harder for me to accommodate, or even advocate for myself. It's what stopped me from getting a trike until I was in my 30s, but now that I have my trike it's been so useful.
Internalized ableism is a huge barrier that took many years for me to overcome, and even now it still lingers.

Imagine babysitting a bunch of mentally unstable kids

Like where are their parents??
I have a headcanon that Batter in an alternate universe would be a good father.
At least it seemed so to me from his dialogue with Vader and from the chapters in the Room

ending9
made this game in RPG Maker VX Ace in order to take a breather from my much more complex main game project, and because i have the engine so why not
ending9 is my first ever fully released game. it's a sandbox adventure with gameplay reminiscent of Yume Nikki and some Roblox games. the goal is to get all 30 endings as you look for them in a few, but vast maps that actively encourage you to explore
the game is made primarily of default graphics that come with RPG Maker, because it's mostly a fucking around type of project. but the music is entirely made by myself and my friends @satelliteduster and tamarindsoda. enjoy!
free on itch.io
reed of the features and instructions lists, as well as the warnings, thanks š

INCREDIBLY bold of Jax to claim to be the funny one when this happened in the exact same episode

"The funny one?"
"Yeah! Ragatha's the cheerful one"
"Gangle's the sad one"
"Kinger's the crazy one"
"Zooble's the grumpy one"
"And you are the one who hasn't figured that out yet."
"We all just became archetypes. I at least have the self awareness to choose who I am."
"...the funny one..."

āWe were never friends.ā āIt was all to make this moment hurt more.ā
Forgot if I ever remembered to post it when last episode posted, but I was so sure something like this was going to happen. The way Jaxās expressions were when he was talking nice to Pomni throughout episode 5 just made me feel like āheās not being realā, āheās up to somethingā, āheās going to hurt her *intentionally*ā.
Altho even after this episode, I still feel like Jaxās evil behavior is a mask, tho the reason why someone does something still donāt mean shit in regards to the results. Donāt think heāll be redeemed, he gives me the vibes heās going to be a cautionary tale to compliment the othersā healing arcs.
