ok i feel rllay bad for saying this but i kind of had the same deal

not ljke i hated rhe ship itself or the characters but when i first joined the fandom i had ZERO clue who hugo was and until i watched rhe whole show i didnt want to spoil myself with the varigo ship fanart or fics so i avoided jt completely

(everytime i had to exclude rhe ship on ao3 tags i would sob like “IM SORRY HUGO IM SURE YUORE SUPER FREAKING COOL BUT IDK YOU YET😭😭😭😭😭)

see this was a bad idea on my end bc i later learned abt vat7k and allat and cried and then recovered THEN started my varigo journessy :3

i made them boys different fairies from tinkers because thats LAZY. its like the most OBVIOUS CONCLUSION for a smart character to be a tinker fairy in these kinds of aus and as much as i love jt, ITS BORINGGG

for one, i also rlly wanted to go off personalities given to the talents if that makes sense. like. in the movies, fast flying fairies are described to be rather rude and what not. and like. is that NOT Hugo to u? also if Hugo is theoretically still a "thief" in this au, it would be helpful for a thief to have some sort of fast moving ability

the "basing the fairy off personality" thing i just ranted on doesnt exactly match for Varian tho, and tbh i just matched the talent with his shirt color, but this brings me to another reason

i wanted to give these guys other hobbies than the ones theyre forced with that comes with their talents. kind of similar to how tinkerbell acts in the first movie, not wanting to be a tinker and allat. however, how this is different from tink imo, is how they dont hate or dislike their pre-given talents, they just want to do more with other talents of theirs. thats why Hugo and Varian, in this au ig, still like doing alchemy and science and all that but it comes from the fact they just really like the stuff ans not from the fact they just HAVE to be tinkers like let other fairies have hobbies pls

rewatched the tangled series and my first thought was “ok but how can i make this about my other favorite characters” and here we are.

ok so my main idea for this was either, and spoiler alert ahead for those who havent seen tangled series, but this au can go like two ways

one, varian finds his dad in the amber, runs to rapunzel, denied help, and instead of starting his villain arc i guess he just. gives up? runs away? not my best idea yeah but its an idea

second idea was he breaks out of prison sometime during like season 2, maybe even with andrew nad the gang, but instead of joining them he, once again, runs off to piltover

whichever way it begins doesnt exactly matter ig?? it might but idc bc either way he gets to piltover, finds jayce and viktors lab, breaks in for like shelter, food, water, all that, gets caught and taken in (kinda like those “jayvik adopting powder/jinx aus”)(i love those so much btw)

and from then on he just. chills there. i’ll thiunk of more to add to this au but i think i like it mainly because of how varian is so similar to jayce and viktor

like when they first met viktor thought of varian as himself: small scared child just trying to survive after experiencing the WORST TRAUMA OF HIS LIFE

and jayce feeling like a dad in a sense after hearing about what he went through, walking through a blizzard TWO TIMES such and other

and they also dont have dads. so theres that.
