angular rulers

you can find your angles here, and your rulers here.

an angular ruler is pretty much what happens if you have the ruler of a point on an angle.

in my weekly predictions, i focus on angular rulers for the Ascendant and the Midheaven. this is because these type of placements can be very powerful, and will play a huge role in your path in life!

how to check for these

first, check which planet rules your Ascendant and Midheaven, based on the sign that they fall in. for me, that’s Leo→Sun, and Aries→Mars. i posted a list of rulers previously, which you can use to check this.

then, see if any of those ruling planets fall on an angle on their own - i also made a post for this. my Mars is not angular, but my Sun is. so, not only do i have an Angular Sun, but also an Angular Ruler of my Ascendant.

i think it’s quite simple, but there are a lot of layers. any questions, just let me know :)

the rulers in astrology

the rulers are the planets that “rule” each of the signs. everything in astrology has a ruler, and it’s based on the sign it falls in! i will go into detail about this in a later post, but this is just a list of the signs and the planets that rule them.

aries → Mars

taurus → Venus

gemini → Mercury

cancer → Moon

leo → Sun

virgo → Mercury

libra → Venus

scorpio → Pluto

sagittarius → Jupiter

capricorn → Saturn

aquarius → Uranus

pisces → Neptune

to check the ruler of anything in your chart, just check the sign it falls in, and see what planet rules that sign - there you have the ruler of that planet or point.

checking for angular planets

this is something that not everyone has, but it’s worth checking! you will need to have a chart calculated from cafeastrology.com - you can see my tutorial here.

if you’re not sure what an angular planet is, you can see my post here :)

1. check where your angles are

look for the following:

these are your angles. the degrees have an importance here!

2. check your planets for matching signs

i have angles in leo, libra, aquarius, and aries, so i went through my placements and found the ones that fall under these signs.

note: lilith is not a planet, but a point - i will be elaborating on this in a later post, but for now just go with it 😂

3. check how close they are to the angles, by degree

now you will need to use some brain power - for each of these, take the degree of the planet, and then of the angle, and see how far apart they are.

note that only the first numbers (before the degree symbol) are important here, the other two are minutes, which are SUPER precise.

for my example:

Leo ASC at 9° vs Leo Jupiter at 13° - 4° difference

Aquarius DSC at 9° vs Aquarius Sun at 10° - 1° difference

Aquarius DSC at 9° vs Aquarius Uranus at 27° - 18° difference

Aquarius DSC at 9° vs Aquarius Neptune at 10° - 1° difference

Aries MC at 25° vs Aries Lilith at 28° - 3° difference

4. see which ones are within 5°

now you just gotta get rid of the points that are more than 5° from the angles. in my case, that is Uranus (18° off!)

and now, each of the remaining points are your angular planets!

so, i have an angular Jupiter, Sun, Neptune, and Lilith :)

calculating your chart

a tutorial - using cafeastrology.com

1. go to cafeastrology.com

2. scroll down until you see this section:

3. click on “Free Astrology Reports”

4. click on “create a new chart.”

5. input your birth info, click submit

6. scroll down until you see the list of your placements.

these are the placements that i use in my predictions:

and there you have it! if you don’t know the elements of each sign, you can check on my previous post :> you might want to write these down.

as for the numbers beside each of the signs, those are the degrees. they show exactly where each point was in the sky at your time of birth. it’s the difference between saying it’s 2pm, and saying it’s 2:16pm - it’s precision.

the degrees aren’t overly important right here, but if you want to see if you have any angular planets, then you will want to write those down as well!

angular planets

an angular planet (or any point) is one that is in conjunction to one of the angles of a chart.

what is an angle?

there are four angles to every chart:

the first house cusp, AKA the ascendant, AKA your rising sign. this represents the point that was directly on the horizon when you were born; this is the point that was rising.

the fourth house cusp, AKA the IC, short for “immum coeli.” this is the point that was directly below the earth when you were born; directly opposite from the midheaven.

the seventh house cusp, AKA the descendant. this is the point that was “falling” when you were born, it is directly opposite from the rising sign.

the tenth house cusp, AKA the MC, short for midheaven. this is the point that was directly above you when you were born; if you were born in the middle of the day, your sun would be at the midheaven.

what are their significance?

where every house holds its own importance, the angles are the most influential points in the chart. they pretty much determine your perspective on life and on yourself, based on what you came into this world with - it’s things that you would take for granted if you had never considered that not everyone experiences life in the same way that you do. each angle is very important, and EVERYONE has all four because they are our foundations as a being here on earth:

the ascendant represents how you meet the world around you, how you go out there and say “this is me” without even trying. if someone meets you, they meet your ascendant. it’s the way that you take a stand and exist as one. this point is ruled by mars, the planet of taking charge and standing as an individual, of moving towards what you want for yourself, in your own way that is right for you.

the IC represents what you came into the world with. sometimes it’s so natural that you don’t even realize that it’s something you’ve inherited, and not everyone has. this can actually have a strong influence on your perspective and general experience in life; someone who grew up in a peaceful, loving environment will play the game much differently than someone who grew up in a distressed, hateful environment, even if dealt the very same hand.

the descendant is the parts of ourselves that are reflected in those around us. this is the point of collaboration, and the way that we intermingle with the world around us. while the ascendant is important so that we can take a stand, the descendant is equally important so that we can stand beside someone, and see that they have just as much to offer as we do. sharing is caring!

the midheaven is what we bring to the world at large, it is our goals and our ambitions, and the way that we pursue them in our own way. being opposite the IC showcases how your inherited gifts will help you to move forwards, but that ultimately you will need to leave the nest in order to make a name for yourself. the MC is our success, our plans, and the journey we take to get there.

what is an angular planet?

an angular planet is a planet that is on an angle, by 5° (the closer they are to each other, the stronger the energy; if they are EXACTLY the same, then this is a very powerful point in your chart!)

for example, if you had an aries rising at 8° and your sun was at 10° aries, then u have an angular sun (by 2°).

if u had a pisces MC at 24° and a pisces venus at 23°, then u have an angular venus (by 1°).

if u had a leo IC at 3° and a cancer moon at 29°, then u have an angular moon (by 4°).

what does this mean?

i plan to go into detail about the specifics about what each angle and angular planet means, but this post is meant to be more of a basic explanation!

when you have an angular planet, it means that this planet plays a very important part in your existence here on earth - chances are, it plays a big role in your life purpose.

along with that, because the angles are the most influential of houses, people with strong angles can be some of the post influential people! these people hold the power to inspire many, change the world, and share their gifts.

note that this energy can be very intense, and before it is understood, it can actually cause many issues, frustrations, or setbacks. however, when you begin to make sense of it and to see the power that you hold thanks to it, is when your life will truly begin.

i do extra messages for each of the angular planets on my weekly transit posts, because these energies can be difficult to navigate at times, and i think y’all could use some extra advice in harnessing your powerful energy to progress in your life. :)

the fire signs are the most passionate, most dramatic, most self expressive! they like to have fun and live life to the fullest whislt being themselves. go big or go home!

the air signs are most social, most up in their head, it’s almost as though they float around from idea to idea, from person to person. they like to take in many different perspectives.

the water signs are most intuitive, they feel things more deeply than anyone, and often feel for others as well. they are very artistic and often sensitive, and quite empathetic.

you are focusing on your own power, and you are going to be seeing just how much power you have over your own life. nothing can change you, and yet you can change your own life if you make the decision to. there are some things that you will need to be letting go of though, some things that will take real maturity and discipline to realize that they are holding you back more than they are bringing you forwards.
