BLACK LIVES MATTER. If our lyrics haven't been plain enough from the very beginning, we'll say it outright, unambiguously: @nervoustriggers supports the Black Lives Matter movement, as a band and as individuals, without hesitation or qualification. We're a band formed by white dudes. Growing up we thought we had our clashes with cops, busting us for skateboarding or loitering when we were young punk kids with mohawks, or having them come around to shut down our basement shows (shout out to the NBPD), BUT all of that amounts to basically nothing compared to the everyday experience of simply being black in America, an experience that none of us in our band will ever understand firsthand. It takes an ongoing process of un-learning self-centeredness to begin to understand white privilege. None of us would claim to be perfect allies, but we want to do the work of being better. We want to use our outsized platform to speak to other white folks and say that we have an obligation to listen to and amplify black voices and an obligation to use the unearned position of white privilege to support and help make the changes needed in our society to dismantle & destroy systemic racism wherever it exists. If anybody reading this has a problem with that, you've found the wrong band. JAY INSULT here! It is with GREAT pleasure that I announce, for the first time ever, the first-ever digital releases from one of my favorite NJ bands of all-time, the late, great HUNCHBACK! Featuring 4 core members, @nervoustriggers' own @stopmaggot on bass, @mikehunchback (@night___birds, WEIRD FANTASY BAND) on guitar, @randertaylor (@exmaidband, @blackwineband) on drums, and HUNCHBACK CRAIG (BLANK DOGS, WEIRD FANTASY BAND) on keys, samples, & noise, as well as at various times, @cadaverchris (PASTABILITIES, BLOODSUCKING GEEKS) & @jeffschroeck (THE ERGS!, @blackwineband, @holdenwrecks), HUNCHBACK evolved from an instrumental horror-surf-punk-gore-core band into one of the most intense cacophanies of no-holds-barred punk-noise-insanity of which one could ever conceive. Anyone who saw HUNCHBACK live already knows they were the best. For those that missed them, these recordings are a taste! The first trio of releases is on @bandcamp RIGHT NOW! HUNCHBACK's 2 LPs, UGLY ON THE OUTSIDE (2006) and PRAY FOR SCARS (2008) have been newly re-mixed and re-mastered by @goldabear2000 and they sound more monstrous than ever! And, available for the first time ANYWHERE is the unreleased six song EP NEW WITCHCRAFT, recorded in 2008 by our own @gobopierce at TECHNICAL ECSTASY (the forerunner studio to VOLUME IV) & mastered by HUNCHBACK CRAIG. Per MIKE HUNCHBACK's instructions, I have personally restored & laid out the original artwork for each release with no text or lettering of any kind, except as appears in the drawings. UGLY ON THE OUTSIDE features original art by our late, dearly missed friend JAMIE EWING of BENT OUTTA SHAPE, lovingly restored for this release. PRAY FOR SCARS features art by the infamous @boiledmikediana, the only comic book artist ever arrested & convicted on obscenity charges - as told in the recent documentary BOILED ANGELS: THE TRIAL OF MIKE DIANA - and originally laid out for LP & CD by @lauren_denitzio of @worriersmusic. 05/09/2020 marked 3 years since the first show @nervoustriggers played at @asburyparkbrewery, with @indonesianjunk, @mikeyerg, @garbage_brain_nj, and @aristo_cants! Jay Insult had booked the show at another place with @samwerner, and then they didn't really want to do punk gigs. Asbury Park was still recovering from the closing of Asbury Lanes leaving a vacuum of places willing to book smaller touring punk bands & locals. Less than a week before the show, Sam got in touch with @jplate, who quickly and graciously was willing to take on the shows that the other spot had cancelled, including ours! In short, Jeff & the Brewery saved our asses by stepping up when nobody else would, demonstrating a genuine motivation to support the local music community. This was one of the first few punk shows at AP Brewery, which is now an absolute institution and backbone of the Asbury Punk scene. At the time, Nervous Triggers had been together for a about 2 years, but even given that head start for other venues, we have played Asbury Park Brewery more than any other venue. It is one of a small handful of venues that is truly home for us. Before COVID-19 put the kibosh on everything, we were booked to play 2 more shows there in April 2020 alone. There has been an element of that spirit of stepping up and unwavering support in every show that we have played or attended there since. That's entirely because of the amazing folks involved. We want to thank Jeff and all of his staff there, especially @judyydrama and @connorhanson_music, who always make us feel incredibly welcome, take great care of us, and make things sound amazing! Also, @joepulito, @ofallthingsali, and all at @aftermathcollective, as well as @swank_, @guy9883, and all at @shore_style_punk_night, who book the best gigs there! We miss you all, and we can't wait until it is safe to start playing again.
