Protect and Peace
What I learnt from a quote in Amish's SITA Warrior of Mithila
"All I'm saying is that society must be wary of extremes. It must constantly strive towards attaining a balance among competing ideologies. Criminals must be removed from society and meaningless violence must be stopped. But the warrior spirit must not be demonised. Do not create a society that demeans masculinity. Too much of anything creates an imbalance in life. This is true even in virtues such as non-violence. You never know when the winds of change strike; when violence may be required to protect your society, or to even survive."
Tumblr media
The context of this quote is: Rishi Vishwamitra comes to give a lesson in the gurukul Sita is admitted to. He talks about the reason behind the downfall of a once great empire Bhaarat. He systematically explains to them how the Bhaarat empire declined as they were peace-loving which led them to not respect their own warriors due to their violent nature, be it toward their enemy. Hence, they had no one to protect them when their enemies had taken advantage of their love for peace. Hence, showing the importance of right amount of both, "Masculinity" (violence and protection) and "Femininity" (peace and love) in the society.
Here's something that I learnt from it, other than in the context of society. Almost everyone, including me, wishes to have inner peace, just like those folks of the Bhaarat empire did, and obviously it's not wrong to want it. But, we humans are social animals and attain our daily bread from society with similarities and differences. We interact to fulfill our needs not only materialistically but also emotionally. But, sometimes interactions can create tense situations when they lead to fighting for oneself. Among this chaos, is it possible to completely find inner peace? It can be challenging to balance out inner warriors and saints because the saints tend to mistake my warriors as self sabotaging, which in turn leads to conflicts within me. The external warriors, who my inner warriors protect me from, can take advantage of it.
Thankfully, this quote is helpful in realising how it's important to find a balance in the working of mind. Probably this is what calm among chaos might look like. No matter the situation, it's also the job of the warrior to take care of the inner peace.
