black pearl’s episode:

-moonlight and sea fairy are occasionally able to wander earthbread together, sticking mostly by docks so sea fairy isn’t too far away from tearcrown. this means they are able to influence events somewhat

-lord oyster meets sea fairy and she, wanting her little moon to be happy, decides to help him out

-black pearl’s design in changed somewhat after everything, so that she resembles a mix between white pearl and black pearl. she goes by either name

-lord oyster salvages his relationship with her and they start visiting each other

-moonlight may or may not have to hold sea fairy back from tearing abalone to pieces

flower city:

-more focus on npcs, that’s it mostly. takes place after tengshe wakes up

icicle yeti’s episode:

-cotton and sherbet reunion

-exploring what happened to snowflake after frost turned into queen frost

we like the idea that shadow milk’s sage of truth costume is him after redemption rather than what he was like before corrupting

-it fits with pure vanilla’s truthless recluse costume (the idea that they fell into each other’s roles, since we know pure vanilla didn’t start out like the truthless recluse at any point)

-it fits with shadow milk’s personality and reasons for being corrupt. the animations still have a lot of shadow milk’s beast personality (same pose when watering, his reaction when he pulls a rabbit out of a wormhole instead of his staff) and he has new lines like ‘art can heal the soul’ and ‘admitting your ignorance is the first step towards the truth!’, ‘the truth is born in dispute’, and ‘the key to the greatest theorem is often…pretty small!’ which kinda point towards him learning to better himself, rather than that just being how he was before the corruption

-his lines also still have that playful cunningness that he has: ‘now now, i’m not like those other academics’ // ‘ooooh, are you proposing a debate? alright, but no backsies!’ // ‘who’s hungry for knowledge? come ‘ere!’ // ‘i can always find an answer. even if it means ‘no answer’.’

-plus his frustration when they don’t play along: ‘do i really need to spell out everything? come on, think!’ and ‘ugh, come on! why do you refuse enlightenment?!’

-^ that last line especially reminds us of why he corrupted in the first place: people were upset by the truth and preferred to be told lies instead, so he played along. this line feels like him refusing to play along (‘come on, it’s the truth! just accept it already!’ type deal)

-his attacks also still feature themes of puppetry, which was almost definitely an after-corruption thing

bonus: he has a line that’s just ‘hogwash, rubbish, BOLONEY! i will not tolerate any!’ which is just really fun

btw this isn’t us saying ‘obviously, this is the right way to interpret that costume and it wasn’t him pre-corruption’ because that’s still a pretty cool way to see it! it has a lot of angst potential (one of our favorite animators is currently working on an animatic following that interpretation)

this is just us explaining why we see the costume that way, and why we’re going to be portraying it that way in our art (one example of which coming soon :])

okay, what do we have about lanternbearer shadow milk so far?

he’s wandering the beast realm with pure vanilla. a beetle-y body guard if you will. he doesn’t hide his souljam like pure vanilla because well. he’s kinda big and has lots of stabby appendages. he can focus his souljam to temporarily turn into a form more like his usual- though still with remnants of bugginess. this takes a lot of energy though, since his souljam is on the fritz too. alternatively, he can cast an illusion of his original form without actually changing. this illusion can’t physically be interacted with, and his actual form is just hidden somewhere close by. this is useful for fighting, since he can essentially ambush any dangers that show up

burning spice is also traveling alone with golden cheese. golden cheese has a more unusual avian form like shadow milk, but burning spice doesn’t. the affects of his souljam mean that he is constantly way too cold and thus can’t enrage as often. they’ve been collecting materials they can use to keep him warm enough to keep moving. golden cheese can’t fly as well as before either (wings too big, wings too many). she can still use them for defense though, slapping at foes to cut and break them. burning spice still has his axe, too. even without the flame, he’s just as eager to destroy as he was before. they’re trying to find the others (and trying not to tear each other apart before then. ‘why do you not care about your army?!’ ‘why do you keep whining about that weak dead kingdom of yours??’ they annoy each other a lot with that.)

the others have all set up camp in a little forest-like nook. mystic flour is stuck in place due to her cocoon, and the others would like to have a healer around them so…sticking around her, it is! just be careful not to get close enough to breathe in the flour. dark cacao has fused with his dragons somewhat- they’re technically physically separate but he’s gained draconic features and the dragons’ personalities are expressed through him instead of their own bodies. because plural dark cacao gives us serotonin. he’s the most hardworking in the group, having built most of their defenses and being the primary gatherer of materials. eventually, he worked himself sick, meaning that hollyberry (the resident caretaker of the ancients) is now sticking to his side like glue so he stays safe. she likes exploring and collecting potentially useful things (plus, she…misses having a dragon companion). she’s taken to meal prep- the others like cuisine quite a bit! she tries to make separate dishes for dark cacao, since he’s sticking to the dark cacao warrior traditions

white lily tries to keep a bit of a distance, since she feels like this is all her fault. hollyberry does her best to keep her involved and comfortable regardless. so does dark cacao to an extent (‘no matter what, we are still allies’). white lily helps out around the camp but doesn’t leave. her souljam led to her becoming partially plant-like, and the lack of sun makes her lethargic. she keeps things cozy for

we don’t have any plans for eternal sugar and silent salt yet. we are thinking we want to give eternal sugar ‘she/him’ pronouns and silent salt ‘they/it’ pronouns, but otherwise we want to wait until they get officially released to decide what happens with them

this is from another au we're calling the lanternbearer au. basic gist: in a world similar to redemption au (ancients and beasts are...tolerating each other at the very least), an attempt at repairing the silver tree for good goes wrong and the ancients and beasts end up trapped inside the very same realm the beasts were first imprisoned in. it put their souljams on the fritz to an extent, causing some minor (major) problems

for example: despite trying to dampen the light from his awakened form, pure vanilla still has a glow around him. sometimes it's dimmer, sometimes it's much brighter, it depends on how stable his souljam is (unstable equals brighter light). at best he'd make for a good nightlight and at worst he's a mini lighthouse showing everything exactly where he and his souljam is

lots of thoughts about gingerbrave’s reaction to dark enchantress telling him cookies were made to be eaten

cause he knows better than anyone else how true that is. like he’s seen it. there are games depicting him in the oven surrounded by crumbles cookies. like he knows that the witches did not create cookies so they could be happy and live good lives

it makes us think that he only acted like he didn’t know to comfort custard iii. cause gingerbrave is sort of the leader of the group, he’s, y’know, the brave one. he’s the one everyone else relies on. so it makes sense that custard iii would look to him over wizard or strawberry for answers, and it makes sense that gingerbrave would lie to keep him safe

it’s even worse cause they’re all just kids and custard iii is just an even younger kid. dark enchantress cookie is fully willing to commit cookie war crimes via threatening to kill these kids. pure vanilla is the only other adult there and he gets kidnapped. these poor kiddos are going through it
