The Return

Hello! So on this, the third anniversary of when I first published Running Hot and the second anniversary of its completion, I return to bring you an all new rewrite in prose!

For all of you newbies the original story was a comic script based on an Omega Ruby Navlocke I played all the way back in 2015. It was also a self-imposed a writing challenge in which I drafted and published all 300,000+ words in exactly a year. It helped me immensely with my drafting and writing in general, so my plan for this prose revamp is to essentially repeat my original challenge to hopefully boost my redrafting and editing skills in the same way. I don’t know if I can manage in it in a year like last time (especially since I’m juggling two other runs atm) but that’s the goal! Wish me luck!

Sometimes in order to move forward, you have to look back. Or at least that’s what Latios says. So when the latest in a series of catastrophes sets her adrift, Ren tries to square with her demons and everything else, good and bad, that led her to this tipping point and plunged her over the edge.

Ren’s story, as she tells it, is about love in all its many forms and permutations. How it soured and broke her, how it warmed and healed her, how it inspired and drove her, and how it’s carried her through—and may well again before the end.

Prologue: There’s A Whisper Where Once There Was A Storm

Ren wakes in a cold sweat. Her head sways unsteadily with disorientation, her breath comes in gasps, and her heartbeat thrums in her ears. She touches her face and chokes back a cry, forces herself to breathe steadily now that she is no longer drowning.

I’m supposed to be overqualified for this job. I trained a championship-winning team. I’ve grown up around labs, and spent a year officially helping Professor Oak raise some starter Pokemon. And as if that wasn’t enough, I even had a huge role in taking down Team Rocket. After everything I’ve done, being in charge of raising a trio of starters for Professor Elm should be easy. After reblogging the Pride Miniors, I realized I haven’t bumped my nuzlocke-related Redbubble here, which is silly. (Mostly I made it so me and my friends could get phone cases, stickers, t-shirts, and so forth. But that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t let y’all know it’s out there in case you want some of your own.)

All of the above designs were created to appear in NGP and there’s more coming as I work my way through all pokemon clothing, accessories and other merch the characters are going to sport throughout the story.

Also! As before I totally don’t mind if y’all use these for backgrounds, icons, etc. (though credit is appreciated!) I have all the original files if you need a bigger version, want a differnent background, or an individual Litten/Minior/skull strikes your fancy. Just pop right in to my dm’s or ask box whenever!

It’s Pride Month again and time for Pride Miniors!

I also wanted to add, because I didn’t share this in the original post, since the Minior colors are based on Gilbert Baker’s original pride flag, each color has a meaning: pink=sex, red=life, orange=healing, yellow=sunlight, green=nature, turquoise=magic/art, indigo=serenity, and violet=spirit. I also put in the shiny Minor to represent inclusion!

I still have these on Redbubble if y’all want some merch and of course still have the files, so if y’all want free backgrounds, icons, etc. just dm me or leave an ask and I’ll send them right along.

I made a rainbow Minior pattern! You may notice there is one extra color that you can’t find in the games and this is because they are based on the original pride flag colors. I had the idea for this and then couldn’t resist making it. It took quite a while but I think it came out nice. Makani will be wearing something with this pattern on it at some point during the comic. In the meantime, Tree said I should put it up on Redbubble so I made a little shop. I might get myself a scarf or something. If you want something of your own with these little cuties on it, feel free to check out the link.

Hear ye, Hear ye! 

Welcome the the official beginning of Act One! It’ll be a few weeks before all of Chapter One is drafted, drawn, and colored, and I’ll be posting fun lore pages in the mean time. This week’s lore page is a map of Quarellis, the city where most of Act One takes place. I’ll also include a bit of trivia about how the cities and names of this comic got so turned around as opposed to the base games! In lieu of posting it today, the map will arrive tomorrow at the usual 6PM.
