I was molested by my father's best friend since highschool. He had grown up with this guy, they had been roommates in college, their friend group went back decades.

After two years of abuse, lasting from when I was 12-14, I got the push to tell someone. I told my mom, who told my father, who apparently had to be physically restrained at work so he wouldn't get in his truck and go kick his ass. My family stood behind me, we went to the police, an investigation was started.

The other friends in my dad's crew, against, friends since high school, sided with my abuser. They thought I was doing it for attention. They thought I misunderstood. They even said that since I'm white and he's First Nations, the case was rigged from the start and therefore, not proper. Two of my dad's old friends, a married couple with daughters the same age as me, gave him a job at their business and let him live in their house rent free... With their 14 and 16 year old daughters.

Even after the court ruled that he was guilty and that I had told the truth, they still stood by him. They provided assurance of employment so he would only have to serve weekends, they let him keep living with them. They pretended it never happened.

The guy who houses this creep to this day, tries to reach out to my parents on Facebook. Inviting my dad to charity golf tournaments, trying to catch up with my mom. Both my parents have ignored them. The people who stood by him still feel that the trial was rigged, because I'm white and he's First Nations. Anything I said could be waved away by that bullshit and it genuinely confuses them that my parents aren't willing to play along.

if you’re unwilling to cleanly cut off rapists from your social group i think you have no business calling yourself a feminist or claiming solidarity with other women. it’s really the bare minimum action in supporting other women and if you won’t do it you aren’t shit.
