grimreaper!satoru headcanons

grimreaper!satoru doesn't like showing much emotion, so instead, you decided to make it a game to try and do whatever is necessary to make him smile.

he prefers wearing white or dark blue cloaks, not the black ones that are standard for most reapers to wear! sometimes he'll even sneak a piece of fabric that's his preferred color into the inside of his cloak <3

he believes that he's doing humans a favor by reaping them, thinking that he's saving them from further suffering

he's gotten attached to a human he had to reap. but that was long ago. he doesn't like talking about it.

sometimes he gets a little lazy when it comes to taking souls, preferring to watch the human before sending them to whatever eternal destination awaited them.

you joke about him taking your soul, and what he once found amusing now worries him

although he doesn't show it, he gets flustered really easily, but brushes it off by lightly whacking you on the head with his scythe

mermaid!satoru absolutely adores shiny things. his little cove is filled to the brim with the sparkling human things he's picked up from the beach shore. after a while, he starts bringing them to you, showing them with an excited little chirp. sometimes if its a jewelry item, he'll give it to you as a little gift!

once mermaid!satoru realizes the language barrier between the two of you, he starts pouting. but when you show him some different ways of communication, he immediately brightens up and rushes to try them with you.

physical touch is his love language. whether he's clinging to you or letting out a small click to inform you that he requires attention from his favorite human, the mermaid will never leave you alone for too long.

one day you came to the beach with stickers and hairclips, and then proceeded to place them all on mermaid!satoru's face, laughing at his baffled expression. you took a picture and printed it out to give it to him :3

never ever eat fish around him. The man will look at you as if you've committed a war crime.

mermaid!satoru was shocked when he discovered that humans couldn't breathe underwater... don't ask how he figured this out <3

mermaid!satoru x reader

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the sand beneath you shifted as the wind blew across the beach, whipping your hair against your face as you sighed. sprawled out on the sand, you savored the last bit of the sun's warmth before getting up and packing to return to your hotel room. the vacation had been planned quickly, thanks to you being... let go from your previous job. now all you had to do was relax as you tried to find somewhere else to work.

local jobs were basic, but had decent pay due to the amount of tourists that came during the summertime. the one that you had your eye on was a position at an old ice cream place in the older part of town.

although, when you arrived at the place to do your interview, it was.. interesting.

fishing gear lined the place as decor, painted depictions of sea creatures covered the walls. it must be there in order to match with the whole beach thing. still, it was a bit much.

the only normal thing about the place seemed to be the main server.

the boy seemed to be around your age and greeted you with sparkling eyes and a mischievous smile. two lines of stitches ran down his face, one through his eye and the other over his nose. his hair was a light blue, styled into two pony tails that hung on his shoulders.

slightly unsettling, yet cute.

the owner was a dark-haired man that remained in his office, not even leaving to say hi. all he did was pass you the form and flash a knowing smile before retreating back to his own space.

creepy.

after turning in the form, you went back to the beach before night fell. it was peaceful being the only one there.

waves crashed as they landed on shore, the early stars starting to sparkle above you. you closed your eyes for a moment, breathing in the sea air.

when you opened them, there was a glimmer beneath the water.

mesmerized, you watched it spread- more like move -through the ocean, weaving its way under waves, as it came closer to shore, closer to-

you.

something was clawing it's way out of the water, growing nearer with every frantic beat of your heart.

a man. well, partially.

amazed blue eyes met yours, white hair falling in front of him as his lips parted slightly. his ears were slightly longer and pointy, looking like the kind of elf ears you would see in a fantasy novel.

you tried not to look down, you really did, but the sheer fear and curiosity was too hard to control as your gaze traveled to his bare chest, then lower, until you were met with-

a tail. white and shining in the moonlight, it slithered its way onto shore, moving the stranger with it. noticing your shocked expression, he let out a small chirp before a small chuckle escaped him.

well, you were going to have an interesting summer.

what if you were left alone? after he died, what if there was absolutely nothing that could make you feel like yourself again?

is this what you’re doomed to feel forever? running your fingers along his old clothes while holding back tears, accidentally making two plates of food and breaking down when you realized that Kento- your Kento -would never be coming back to eat it?

the ring was still on the dresser. waiting. hoping.

maybe he would come back, walking through the door with the lazy smile you always loved. his tie around his hand as he pulled you close, resting his chin on your head and letting out a content hum.

you never did leave it. that item of his was now a permanent guest on your beside table, serving as a reminder of him. some nights, you felt as if he were there.

whispering about his day, a ghost of a touch on your hip and a light kiss on your cheek. but they all left eventually.

the students who remained after shibuya used to come by daily. offering company and something to look forward to, it became something that you had grown to enjoy.

but with all the destruction, they were called away on missions. they trained and trained, all so that no one else would be hurt. but you? you were left behind.

but were you really?

he was still there.

watching you blossom more and more by the day, seeing the color return to your face and the energy return to your body. one day, you didn't need support anymore. instead, you shoved his tie in your pocket and went out into the world for the first time in months.

although he couldn't be beside you, he remained by your side as much as he could be until he had to go.

but he was glad that he left you happy instead of withering away slowly.

and whenever you felt that familiar warmth, you leaned into it, whispering the three words that you never said enough while he was with you still.

you weren't supposed to be here.

a human, watching him perform his task of taking a life, your eyes wide in both fear and wonder. it was strange.

you followed his movement as he sliced through yet another flickering soul, trailing behind him like a lost puppy through the hospital.

it was likely that you thought of him as nothing but a hallucination. a product of being crammed into a hospital bed for so long, formed by your loneliness and need for human contact.

sure, you were a pretty little thing, eyes all wide and innocent despite your skinny frame and fragile bones. one who still had hope to survive.

but satoru knew this hospital. he knew that it wasn't likely that you would leave alive. this was a place for those who no longer could be healed from the illnesses they carried, thrown into here for their bodies to rot away, not taking up space for those who could be saved from their fate.

tugging his hood over his head once more, he tried to ignore the way you were staring at him. the halls were strangely deserted, leaving the two of you out in the open together.

white strands of hair escaped the veil that shielded him from the human world. tall, stoic, and doomed to be the one to take your life, yet all he seemed to be was a pretty stranger walking through the halls. to the workers here, of course.

oh why couldn't you just leave him alone? taking souls was hard enough, and your presence wasn't helping at all. a scowl formed on satoru's face as he entered the room of an old man, quick to slice through and get out. maybe you would stop following him then.

but you didn't. you continued the journey with him as he spread death like a plague. and despite how annoying satoru found you, he had to admit. it was nice not being alone.
