Late-spring blooms and warm alpenglow tones light up against brilliant skies after a thunderstorm last night, in the Three Sisters Wilderness. I've been coming to this spot for a few years now waiting for the right conditions, and this is the closest I've gotten to the most ideal composition I could ask for. The mosquitoes here were insane and I probably endured them for over an hour to see how the sky would turn. The spring wildflowers in the Columbia Hills State Park only last for a couple of weeks, and then they fade until the next year. Thinking about the fires that our state and the gorge has experienced in recent years, I can only imagine what this area would be like if it had been touched and I am grateful to say I've been able to witness this area for myself twice now. Despite it's quiet looking appearance, this place actually attracts flocks of photographers trying to get a good composition for their portfolio, as well as couples looking for photos and workshops being led with teachers and artists alike, so getting a decent photo sometimes means waiting or very selectively choosing a photo spot so that you don't accidentally step into someone else's composition. Some photos ask a little more of you than you may like, but what else can you do when you want your shot? This photo required me to climb onto a wet tree stump and then immerse my camera tripod halfway into the creek to get this angle. The current was almost strong enough to take the camera downstream, but thankfully not. Add to that that between each photo I had to wipe my camera lens off due to significant mist and spray from the falls and all in all it did take a bit of effort. Oregon's Columbia River Gorge viewed after heavy rain, Tuesday evening. 5 minutes before this was taken the sky was all gray and misty, and very rainy. I spent a few minutes in the car debating whether to lodge for the night in Portland, and then all of a sudden this happened!
