- the ORIGINAL danganronpa yaoi. they are the forefathers, the trend setters, the prime. they hit a home run on the first try with them.

- (no seriously. canon romantic pairing kuzupeko is based off them.)

- also mentioning munakata and sakakura. they’re great value taka and mondo and the gay feelings are canon there.

- they matched each other’s freak SO HARD that their enemies to lovers arc lasted for like, a few hours.

went to disneyland and got all their signatures!

no but really, i just wanted to do something fun and imagine what their “disneyland signatures” would be. (in case you didn’t know, each walk around character in the disney parks has their own set signature that the character actor has to practice so that they can replicate it as accurately as possible.)

i’m not a calligrapher, like, at all. so these aren’t great. but i still had fun with them!

- I could just leave it at 'word of God confirms he's gay' but I also gotta just mention that whether it's him having this whole toxic-homoerotic rivalry with one character (one whom he shares so many parallels/themes/similarities with that I actually have a full post trying to document as many as I can find, and will probably put in a reblog once the poll actually drops), or having one-sided feelings for another (platonic, romantic, it doesn't matter, it's all doomed because the other guy doesn't feel love or care for other people) to the point of doing what he did in chapter 2 for the guy (spoilers), he just OOZES Dramatic Gay Asshole energy in every single scene he's in.

- He's also my number one blorbo right now and I cry about him nearly every day because he's so goddamn tragic and annoying and he needs some kind of win after constantly taking Ls.

- (Sidenote; but the ONLY reason I'm not submitting either of those mentioned dynamics as ships is because one involves a nonbinary character who doesn't identify as male so it wouldn't feel right to add them in a strictly mlm tournament, and I just don't ship the other personally due to how one-sided it is. it’s fun to revisit this little idea almost 3 years later. because even now, i still have more to say about it.

because i wrote this before i even knew that toranosuke was a hope’s peak alumni. so i think that gives hope’s peak even more of an incentive to want to “fix” the ishimaru’s. because it’s a problem they created.

think about it. it’s said that when you go to hope’s peak, you’d be set for life. i think a lot of that comes from just the attention one gets for being scouted by hope’s peak. i feel like a lot of kids get on people’s radar because they got scouted. people with power who never would’ve thought beforehand to work with these kids are all of the sudden waiting for them to graduate so they could snatch them up and have them contribute to whatever business endeavors they have.

so what if this happened with toranosuke?? him being scouted by hope’s peak got a lot of people to notice him. throw in him expressing a desire to go into the business and political world. and all of the sudden there’s people at his door willing to help him succeed. that wouldn’t have happened without hope’s peak.

so when the scandal happened, and the public opinion on toranosuke and the ishimaru’s took a plunge. do you think they also partially blamed hope’s peak for “introducing” him to the public eye. he wouldn’t have gotten as far as he did without hope’s peak. so they were to blame as well.

and of course, hope’s peak can’t have a tarnished reputation like that. the idea that they helped a corrupt businessman/politican’s journey to fuck over the country just can’t be attached to such an honorable establishment. so when they see that his grandchild is doing well in school and even set up a public morals committee in his middle school, they thought of a plan.

if they get an ishimaru to graduate from their school and do good things for the country (something kiyotaka plans to do himself), then it’ll look like they “fixed their mistake.” it’s the ultimate apology. it’s repaying a debt. and kiyotaka is none the wiser. he just thinks he got in because he broke the system. he got in not relying on natural talent, like his grandfather, but by hard work.

and it’s true! he didn’t get in because of his talent. but it’s a lot more tied to his grandfather than he thought.

Something I like to think about a lot is the circumstances behind Taka being recruited into Hope’s Peak.

I mean, the definitions of “talent” and “skill” are pretty flexible when it comes to DR, but the game still took the time to point out that Taka and Makoto are sort of outsiders compared to the others because they got into the school without relying on talent (I could also mention characters who got in purely because they’re heirs to something i.e. Byakuya, Sonia, and Fuyuhiko, but that’s besides the point-). And Makoto got in through the raffle, so what does that make Taka?

And yeah, it could be that he’s just so hard working and has done so much that his character alone was able break the system and get him into the school, but I still like to think of other possibilities.

There’s a reasoning that I feel fits more in line with the kind of institution Hope’s Peak was revealed to be, and that’s the idea that Taka was accepted purely based on image purposes (and to an extent, his connection to his grandfather). To present him to nation as this underdog that will exceed their expectations and will furthermore make Hope’s Peak look like an even better school.

Like what if instead of his grades or accomplishments being at the forefront of their minds when they accepted him, it was the fact that he is the grandson of a disgraced prime minister? They invited him to their school because it would make people talk. If the public monitored the product of a disgraced family grow to become successful in life, it would only make Hope’s Peak look better. Yeah, it could really be Taka’s own work ethic that gets him places, but the public will instead see that he attended Hope’s Peak. They will see that they achieved the impossible and made the Ishimaru’s look good again. And Taka isn’t aware of this. He just thinks he got in because he’s a hard worker, proving that even the average citizen can accomplish great things.

It’s still worth taking into consideration that this reasoning could apply to other characters (Mondo’s one I could see getting invited to the school for a “redemption arc.”), but I feel that it works better with Taka. He was able to reach one of the best accomplishments of his teenage life, but unbeknownst to him, it was for reasons that go against his main ideology.

you guys actually have no idea how much i’m… anticipating??? what they could possibly announce for danganronpa’s 15th anniversary. like, they’re building up way more hype and seem to be planning way more than the 10th anniversary. and they gave us a new game for the 10th anniversary. granted, not a mainline game (which is honestly for the best imo) and it turned out to be a disappointment, quality-wise, but a new game nonetheless.

like. what are you building this much hype for spike chunsoft?? why are english dub va’s involved and possibly recording new lines (in case you missed it, monokuma’s english va also teased some announcement on november 25th, thh’s release date, with a gif of monokuma)??

i know i made a joke post a couple of days ago with a joke prediction. but man, i’ve actually been thinking about the possibilities. a thh remaster would be cool, especially now that the switch 2 is out. but it might also be coming too soon after the switch release of the original thh. so why remaster it if you don’t make some major changes (which i don’t think spike chunsoft has the balls to do)??

i just hope it’s not a new game with a new cast of characters. part of me is hoping that they respect kodaka and his decision to be uninvolved too much to make an addition to the main lineup of games (kodaka has said that he doesn’t have anything planned for the 15th anniversary when was directly asked that question in interviews, while other dr writers teased what’s going to happen). i think its very unlikely going to be that. but it’s still a nonzero chance it COULD be. the mainline series is done. we don’t need danganronpa 4. but that doesn’t mean we still can’t explore or flesh out what’s already been established in the series, whether that be the mainline games or other bonus stuff like dr:if (tho that’s, like, on the “not gonna happen” end of the spectrum and just incredibly wishful thinking on my end). who knows. maybe it really is another attempt at an adaptation.

i think what really convinces me that it’s gonna be something big is the fact that they plan to celebrate the 15th anniversary for a whole year. you could either take that to mean that they plan on releasing little things from november 2025 to november 2026. or that they plan on releasing little things and then one big thing with a 2026 release date that will carry the hype surrounding it into the next year (aka. the 10th anniversary tactic. releasing the games on switch + the anniversary looks for the characters + new artbooks right away, and then announcing danganronpa: s and letting the hype around that build). and idk why, but i’m leaning towards the latter. maybe it’s that one ??? tab in the 15th anniversary portal they made.

there’s also always the chance that they’re overhyping something that doesn’t really warrant it. who knows. there’s also nonzero chance of that.
