June Update! Dark Heir has been taking me FOREEEVVVVERRRRR because you just don't have that same midpoint series of twists the first book had, but I'm currently 19 minutes away from finishing it which is such a relief because it's taken me so long. Over Work is the title that inspired that 'unemployed friend on a tuesday' post I made a while back and I seriously recommend it.

New year, new game of "Screenshotting my Libby audiobooks when they're perfectly 50% done!" This book had a very compelling beginning but kind of lagged a bit. I mostly stuck with it because there was a lot of hype and a pretty long waiting period for it on Libby, and I also really liked the character of Violet and y'know what, with the story's latest twist, I'm really glad I did! I can only describe it as "C.S. Lewis takes a heel turn into 'I want that twink obliterated.'"

I am forever grateful to an archivist mentor I worked with in grad school for some resume advice she gave me and thought maybe others would also benefit from it.

Keep a Master Resume.

This is not the resume you send out. This is a detailed resume of every job (with dates and location, supervisor and location phone number are a bonus) and as many skills/duties/accomplishments you can possibly think of for each and every one of the jobs and education programs you can think of.

She showed me hers, it was about 25 pages long, and formatted exactly like a regular resume for ease. Every time she would learn a new program/skill, she'd add it. Change in title or duties, add it. Complete something big/special/complicated/new to her/professionally significant, she would add it. This way when she went up for a promotion or raise, she had a detailed record of highlights to pick from to show she deserved it. There was no "when was that? Did I submit that last round of reviews?"

Applying to a new job? Pick and choose items from your Master Resume to plug in to the resume or CV you will be sending based on the job posting. You don't need to rewrite it, just cut and paste relevant details.

Hey folks, I know it's easy for things to just kind of fly by and it's all you can do to mentally hang on, but if you weren't aware, last week West Virginia saw some catastrophic flash flooding. Ohio Valley Mutual Aid has been providing hot meals, organizing bucket brigades of volunteers to get gallons of thick mud out of people's homes, handing out cleaning supplies to those affected, and providing other forms of direct aid to affected families. If you can spare a few dollars, they could really use some help right now.
