the Vega Hase backstory no one asked for, part 2! or, the shit leading up to her becoming a cadet

With Wall Maria fallen, Vega is taken to Wall Sina, where the government is making a chaotic effort to reunite refugee children with family members. It takes a couple of weeks, but she's told that a man is asking about survivors from the village of Kine. It turns out to be Alder's adult brother, Christoph, who left Kine just a year prior to seek work as a carpenter. Christoph is... not thrilled to see her. When he was told there was a sole child rescued from Kine, he had hoped desperately that it was his little brother, but here's his brother's fuck-up friend. Moreover, when he learns she was picked up in the forest far from the village, he's pretty sour about the fact that she ran off alone while his brother slept until he was devoured. Still, he has a sense of obligation to the village, so he agrees to take her in, but he has a whole lot of resentment for the kid, which isn't lost on Vega

Her time with Christoph is tense, to say the least. He can barely look at her without wonder why she had to be the one to survive.

When she tries one day to talk about that morning, he just stares at her like she's slapped him. She doesn't try again. She's dealing with her own turmoil, but she's used to being quiet around adults anyway, and she doesn't know how to process this man always looking like he's disappointed that she's even there. He works, and she tries to stay out of his way, and there's not much said between them beyond small talk.

After a few months of this, Vega decides she wants to make herself useful in return for being there, and starts making a tiny amount of money using her skills to find and sell flowers and herbs on the streets. It helps her feel like she's doing something worthwhile, even if she can't earn much, and it gives her some sense of normalcy.

What she wasn't expecting was how many kids would live in an actual town, and how they'd react to her. She's timid and half the time she's practically dissociating while selling her flowers to avoid thinking about the trauma and the guilt for even surviving it, so when the bullying starts, she has no idea how to handle it. As months drag on and the population feels the effect of the famine, some kids blow off steam by escalating into what gradually becomes terrorizing her. It doesn't help at all that she's a refugee and in their minds partly to blame for the lack of resources.

So, I've got this whole theme of rabbit/hare symbolization with her (Hase even means hare) throughout her development; she feels like a displaced forest animal, and she knows what it feels like to have a creature many times larger than herself come after her with the intent of devouring her, etc etc, and some of the crueler kids from town go as far as physically harassing and chasing her while calling it a rabbit hunt. She's a nervous wreck and she just wants to sell herbs and earn money to make up for being alive, man.

One day a boy takes it way too far and has her pinned on the ground. When he tears part of her clothing off in front of the other kids, Vega finally fucking snaps, throws him down, and almost kills him by grabbing a garden spade and shoving it down his mouth and piercing the back of his throat. She's pulled off as he sobs and chokes on blood. He survives, but he struggles to even speak normally after the incident because of the damage to his trachea.

With her being just a kid, Christoph takes the brunt of the blame, though of course she lands herself with a reputation of being an unstable forest-dwelling savage. Feeling absolutely miserable and eaten up with guilt and confusion as to how she could even do something so violent, Vega decides the only thing she can do for Christoph is leave, and that joining the cadets is her best option, so she can join the Survey Corps and do something worthwhile, like the guy who saved her in the woods. She still desperately wants to see the world too, even though she can't help worrying that's deeply selfish of her.

Of course she's also had a lot of time to think about how fucked up everything is and is looking for something grounding in her life, so when she's packing her few belongings and finds her old journal, she also decides that the reason she was the only one who survived was so she could do what Oma wanted and keep her village from going extinct. From that point forwards, she lives with the other orphaned refugees, writing down everything she can remember that Oma ever taught her, knowing she's forgotten most of it but hoping she can write down enough to guide people after her. By the time she officially joins the cadets, she's already starting to fill out a second journal...

I got bored while I was sick last week so I made a character. Got so deep into it that I cam out with a full story idea, a whole bunch of lore and headcanons about the aot universe and Paradis, and n nice new homunculus to toss around. Actually writing it all is going to take some time but I think I'm zoned in enough that I won't get bored of it until it's done.

I treat Attack on Titan like this honestly. Yes, I love every minute of it. Yes, I think it's a good story and that Isayama did a brilliant job. NO. I don't think anyone is any lesser for just not being able to handle the themes. But going over antisemitic themes is important, especially now.

I think some people forget that some literature and some media is meant to be deeply uncomfortable and unsettling. It's meant to make you have a very visceral reaction to it. If you genuinely can't handle these stories then you are under no obligation to consume them but acting as if they have no purpose or as if people don't have a right to tell these stories, stories that often relate to the darkest or most disturbing parts of life, then you should do some introspection.

Levi Ackerman Fluff Headcanons

Author's Note: I just wanted to write some Levi fluff but god I'm not good at writing long Headcanons but fuck it 💀

General Headcanons

I've had this idea since Bad Boy got released despite not reading it that Levi probably encouraged Mikasa to go short on her hair. That's because, to him, Mikasa and Kuchel look similar. Too similar. For many, the idea would provide comfort but not Levi

He cares for Mikasa SO MUCH. Probably teaches her specifically how to make tea and clean up (and the others) but of course he's a little "rude". He just wants her to live a long, peaceful life to the best of her ability

In fact, semi related, that's how he feels about Gabi and Falco too. They remind him of not only Erwin and Hange but Isabel and Furlan too. He loves those little rascals!! Especially as he opens up

This man 100% opens up a tea shop at some point in his retirement. Visits Mikasa whenever possible but prioritizes caring for the smallest generation of little ones

Romantic Headcanons

Okay so. Let's go. Levi absolutely adores you. Would make time for you, invite you out to spend time with Gabi and Falco. The works!

His ideal date is one that doesn't require going out. He's a homebody. Maybe a nice movie, some tea. A night spent being really cozy and comfortable

Levi isn't used to affection. If you sat down and really pampered him, he wouldn't know what to do. In a good way! Lean into your touch, staring into your eyes with his own unreadable expression and consider your placement in his life. How lucky he is and how special you are

Levi 100% hesitated introducing you to Hange and Erwin. If you ever ask though? He will do so without a doubt. You asked after all! But he will drag his feet. It's not about you, or even them really. It's about the idea of what it means for him. How much he has committed to the idea that you and him will last

Levi is 1000% bad at feelings

Trying to think about which characters to write a drabble about. Erwin and Levi putting you in your place, maybe. Making sure you're aware you fucked up between the rough, mean captain and the condescending and giving commander. Which is soft? Oh neither. Erwin is just as harsh as Levi. Levi edges, Erwin overstims. It just depends on who is given primary reigns on any given day ;)
