Hi, thank you for your question. I’m not entirely sure if I fully understood it, but I interpret it as “How can you be certain that you love art?” (Please let me know if I misunderstood.)

I believe it’s similar to playing a game. If you feel interested, you know you like the game. If you feel bored, you know you don’t like it. Art is the same.

That’s the beginning of interest, but in my opinion, this is just “liking,” not “loving.”

My love for art is more like, “Among thousands of pains, I chose this one.”

Yes, pain. Philosophers have their pain, scientists have theirs, and artists have their own pain as well. For me, the moment I knew I loved art was when I realized:

“This is the only pain I can endure for my entire life.”

That’s how I’m certain that there’s no other path for me but this one.

What was the biggest hurdle in your art journey? And how did you overcome it?

From a technical perspective, I don't think I've ever truly overcome any hurdles. As one's skills improve, their desires and ambitions grow accordingly, so we constantly encounter endless small, specific challenges. Solving a problem in one artwork or practice doesn't mean it will permanently disappear. I believe this endless journey of problem-solving is what makes artistic creation enjoyable.

However, from a psychological perspective, I think the biggest hurdle I've overcome is balancing my own preferences with others' expectations. I know everyone has different creative purposes and interests, but for me, an important purpose of creation is to interact and communicate with others through it. Therefore, sometimes I would care too much about others' opinions while neglecting my own feelings, and other times I would be too focused on my own pursuits, making it difficult for others to understand the meaning of my work.

Not getting the feedback I needed for a long time made me feel that drawing was painful, and I even lost my passion for it at one point.

The way I solved this problem was to clarify my own purpose before creating and take responsibility for the results of this choice. Sometimes I create works that I know won't receive great feedback, but they're important to me because creating them allows me to better enjoy the process of drawing rather than focusing on the final visual result. Even if these pieces don't get much engagement when posted on social media, I feel it's worth it.

I believe the most important aspects of artistic creation are maintaining passion, enjoying the process, and persisting in the long term. I wish for you, and myself, to always enjoy this journey.😊
