Okay so I gave a warning in the last post, but here's another. The models you're about to see aren't the final versions, I literally made them in 5 minutes. I also didn't base them on my concept art, because I made them before that. So I'll probably make another placeholder model with more detail and based on the concept art at some point. And they'll be rigged, idk how to do that yet (but I'll figure out).
So my array worries are gone, It was literally one line of code. Did everything I wanted it to do.
Public CharacterManger Char = new CharacterManger[i];
This is holds all the characters, and it can change size for more characters. Here are the characters I've made so far.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's some lore about the characters, and their name. There won't be a story other than the characters talking to each other about the world or their past while in game, so this is probably the most written down you'll get. Anywho, I won't be telling what the squares are just yet, but trust me they're good.
When I made the models I missed one, mainly because she didn't exist yet. I came up with her that night, after I made the models. So I'll have to make one for her, I don't know if I want to wait or make one of those shitty low poly models just yet.
I had issues with unity pbr fog, I just couldn't get the fog to go away. So I completely removed it by switching to another scene and moving all my stuff I made there. It worked. I'll show the fog issue in another post, but it made it so I couldn't really see the probuilder I planned to use. I can use it now, so tomorrow I'll probably make a tutorial map and maybe even a small map to play test on.
If I can I'll post the gif I made of the system in a little.

Quick update before I head to bed. I drew some concept art and planned out the tutorial, and selecting characters. Tomorrow I have to go into temple and find the time I used a variable size array (I used it as a 3D float array). I made low poly 3D models for the characters before I made the concept art so when I show the low poly models they'll look almost nothing like art.
Tumblr media
I'll explain the characters later, but what I'd like to point out is that all these characters are in the same universe. The game isn't meant to be realistic, it's going to be very loose with reality. For instance the golden knight is a knight from the midevil ages who was cursed and outlived his king.

Hayco is making some progress, I did some research on scriptable objects. I always thought that they would've helped when making the items in temple, but now that I know what they are it probably wouldn't have helped.
Every version of the scriptable object has the same variables, so I'd be making many scriptable objects.
In hayco though it helps a lot, all the characters have the same properties that are altered per character. Plus I can do another object for guns, and gamemodes. It'll be very helpful.
I have 5 characters currently planned (I plan on making more), so I made a low poly model so picking between them is easy to understand.
Tomorrow I'll be making the selection of characters, and the guns. Hopefully I'll even make a gun range to test them out. I plan on making the start menu actually an area where you can practice with guns while waiting for your friends to join.
Within the next week I plan on having the start menu, the tutorial, and a playable level.

So I've put Temple on a sabbatical, I've burnt out. I'll come back to it, hopefully.
I am actually working a new game right now, it's very exciting for me. It's code name is Hayco for right now. I do really like the name so it may become the actual name, who knows.
Hayco is going to be a different take on the tactical shooter (e.g. CS:GO, TF2, Overwatch). There's a couple new ones that have taken the world by storm, but they feel kind of basic and not very willing to try to new things. And that's what I'm going to do. Lots of inspirations from other games. That's all I'm going to say in this post. I'll post another update tomorrow.

1/5 Characteristics
Visibility
The 5 characteristics are made to modify the players abilities to help them get traverse the world in different ways. This is done with items that are given to the player, earned, or found in the world. These items are also wanted by the other characters in the game. So the player will have to decide what they want more, the benefits or the characters to like you more, or the benefits of other items.
Tumblr media
The first and most world changing is visibility, there are levels in the game that are either partially or fully in darkness, untraverseable without light.
There are 3 items that help light up the world: the match, lantern, and the visibility stone.
The Match
The Player can collect matches (I haven't set a limit yet, I plan on setting it pretty high maybe 15 to 25). The matches are thrown with a right click. They light up a small area around them, when used around the world it makes it look like Swiss cheese. Giving some information about the world around them, but not a lot. They stay in their locations throughout the entire game.
The Lantern
The lantern is a tool that lights up a medium area around the player, but only stays around the player (I might make it run on a timer, that requires matches to refresh).
The Visibility Stone
The visibility stone is an item found that makes the whole of the dark, visible again. The whole world would be visible, but the player must always hold down the right mouse in order to see (trying to give the vibe of holding the stone)
With these items you can see the world in different ways.
Tumblr media
A bug I encountered, where an infinite amount of matches.
The visibility is a sprite mask that gets removed as around the items.

TEMPLE.
It started because of an art style I developed after testing the difference between the drawing tablet and a mouse. I quickly came up with an idea of a metroidvaina rpg. Where the way you traverse around the world changes based on how you interact with the npcs. It's going to be a philosophical game, meant to ask 2 overarching questions and 1 question for each npc stuck in the temple.
I designed 5 different types of interacting with the world.
Visibility- to help you see in dark places.
Mobility- to help move around either faster or differently.
Jump- the most versatile as it allows you to move vertically in many different ways.
Vulnerability- allows you to defend yourself from the traps set up in the world.
Charisma- to help with interacting with the npcs.
Each of the type has 3 to 5 items based around it (There will be a post about each type individually later).
The brief summary of the story is, you (the player) stumble across a giant ruined temple and make your way inside. Once inside you see 8 people who say they've been stuck here for hundreds of years, as punishment. Each of them had done terrible things, and they believe that's why they're there. The question is, do the deserve eternal torment?

Okay okay so here's the plan, I'm going to introduce myself in this post and then introduce Temple in the next post.
Warning: I suck at spelling! Sorry.
Heyo, I'm Joyous or Joy. Hm, where to start? I was born in '04, so I'm 17 now. I was born in the "Wonderful" United States of America in a state called Georgia. I was born as Sean a "beutiful" baby boy, with a freakishly large head. Like gosh darn, a HUGE head. Anyways, my brother was born a couple years later. Our parents met in the Navy, married when I was conseived and soon after my brother's birth they divorced. My dad went on tour often, and my mom wasn't there so I was baby sat by my Nana (my dad's mom) until my dad met another newly divorced mother. She had three kids, and my brother and I would be hang out with them as she babysat us. After a while, I don't know how long because I was a child, they started dating. Three years later, when I was 4 and a half they had a child and got married. At the same time my mom had a kid too. We started moving a lot (I've lived in Georgia(twice), Texas(four times), California(once), Arizona(like 5 times), Tennessee(once)). With all the moving I didn't have any friends, nor did I be able to stay in school, so we did home schooling. At around the age of 5 or 6 I started visiting my mom for the summer. Throughout the moving and summer vacations, I played games falling in love with them. I especially loved halo, portal, gears of war, and minecraft when I was growing up. I would make paper versions of games and come up with entirely new ones, that my step-mom would through away (because they were bad). The best non-electric game was a game we called circles, basically a DND lite. You would roleplay as a human who would gain a gem that was magical (and when in use they would make circles, thus the name), then they would adventure.
When I was 11, I moved to Arizona with my mom because she noticed that my knowledge was of a first grader (I was supposed to be in 4th grade). So I started school, and had a lot of trouble learning. We spent hours fighting over homework. After a very hard year of work I finished 4th grade with an A. I still don't know how to read a clock though. Later, around 5th or 6th grade, I started making games with scratch. I remember some very bad fnaf games I made, and a space game where you can't leave your room. In 7th grade I took a computer science class (and an engineering class where I got an A, and taught my teacher stuff, but that's just bragging) because I wanted to code. I incorectly thought my dad was a coder in the navy, but he was a decoder of information. I quickly realized my love for coding, finishing a 1 year long class in a semester. I also found my best friend in that class, and I taught him how to code. We both finished early. I also started experimenting with a game engine called unity. But gave it up quite quickly.
In high-school my best friend and I were accepted into an accelerated computer science class (even though I applied after the dead line). I had to drop out of that high-school because I get sick easily. I had to stay home for 2+ months because I had a very loud constant cough, that distracted the classes. In that time (2019) I picked up unity again but this time I did ✨research✨. Thanks to Brackeys, and BlackThornProd I taught myself to code. I also taught myself basic modeling (thanks to blender guru), even though I couldn't make the cup handle or the donut frosting correctly.
Tumblr media
I finished my first game in 2019, it was a really bad speed game, based on brackey's tutorials. Then I quickly made my own platformer game called Light The Way. I started a few other games, dropping one after I got a new idea (I think this happens to most people). I plan on using some of those ideas for future games. I realized that I hated 3D modeling, and so I taught myself to do pixel art thanks to Brandon James Geer. It was a lot of fun.
Tumblr media
This is the first thing I ever made, notice the computer is an exact replica from the computer from Pokémon (I got the idea from a video by Mr. Geer). I copied the furniture as well, only building off in the right room. The panda is my stuffed panda I have in person. While I was teaching myself, my now ex, gave me a tablet to try working on and I made this.
Tumblr media
I loved the style I came up with that at that moment I decided to make a game, with my mouse because mouse is better (mouse gang). I came up with an idea and made started working on temple.

(While working I tried 3D modeling again and I enjoy it a lot!)

Anyways I moved back with my dad, in texas. In August I plan on starting streaming development on the game.
If you'd like to see my other work you can go to my reddit
If you'd like to talk please join my discord! (Note: I do not talk like this, I am quite bubbly and emotionally charged in my texts. For e.g. "Heyo! Howdy do, I'm doing dandy as candy 🍬") the discord is currently dead, but if you join it won't be!
I also have a YouTube (which im reworking) and a tiktok to teach how and why game development works!
Darn this is long.
