I watched Shinkai Hijikata-hen ^_^ And for the last few days I rewatched the scene where Kondou trains Chizuru a bit too many times. Because it's funny and adorable and I love the Shiekan training song that follows the scene.

I honestly thought I wouldn't be particularly into newer Hakumyus since, to quote Saito, I believe in things that don't change, and I didn't think anything could reach the same level as good old Yaisa!³ for me but I was very pleasantly surprised. I very dearly recommend watching it.

Hello I'm back with character challenges!

Saito's referring to this live drama, and the next year Okita did appear there too.

Okay this new picture confused me enough to post about it.

It's lovely, love the cat. But I'm confused, what exactly are they're going for here? I'm supposing this:

But the problem is they didn't bring Saito's arm and the cat actually in front of Okita (btw Okita's referring to this). All three of them are depthwise on different level, though Okita's finger is too perfectly close to look like he's touching the kitten's nose. Yet being on different levels they're all staring at different things!

I mean this is the supposed side view of that picture.

The new bald guy seems to have some kind of story but based on the CGs I thought that it would be the shortest new route :P In second pic the woman even has purple kimono and sorta similar hairstyle to Chizuru’s anime look.

So that could be the shortest route where Chizuru runs into the bald guy instead of Shinsengumi when she arrives Kyoto. No angst or death, just happy short romance.

Here’s with nearly no planning for Hijikata’s second birthday. Since I managed to get sick I thought that illness in summer Toshi was good way for project my feelings.

For my earlier edit I had to go through a lot of Hakuouki’s CGs which is always kinda interesting since there’s just so many of them. There’s so many pictures that I don’t even know which game they’re from, let alone what is the context of the scene (since some of them do not even have translated/localized version). And that means that when I stumbled upon this,

my mind makes up something that I think is reasonable explanation:

Saito always seemed to be pretty at peace with killing, and given how bloody and brutal Hakuouki can be that small amount of blood doesn’t seem to me to be much to be upset about. Therefore my only conclusion is that somebody gave Saito really bad sword that doesn’t cut propely and is ruined if blood gets on it. Saito is the sword guy™ , give him a good sword!

I usually don't want to diss the new(er) Hakuouki art, especially since it's been like 10 years since Kazuki Yone hasn't been the main artist. For the appreciation see this stunning visual for the new OVA Kazuki Yone has done:

There have been pretty pictures for Hakuouki even after the original artist left, but however year by year there just seems to be more and more.. plasticy, odd pics too. I'm not a fan of that but usually I don't particularly have a problem with it either. But this picture for the new Hakuouki OVA ending theme, it just looks.. rushed.

It kinda bothered me the first time I saw it but lately it's been a lot on the OVA songs on youtube and I have had to see it much more, and now it really bothers me. I don't want to blame the artists in any way, and given that this was for the OVA and not for a new game it's understandable that the quality isn't on the same standard as for the game CGs, but there's just so much wrong going on. The guys look really bad copies of their actual appearance (see the beautiful visual Kazuki Yone did, you can really see it on Harada and Okita).

And it has some really rookie mistakes like on the guys' heads and Hijikata's asymmetric jaw. I mean I'm not a professional artist but minus the coloring I'd say this was fan art. So I ended up playing around with older CGs, just kinda trying to see what the picture could have looked like if it had the effort and time it needed(and the original artist).

This is what I ended up with, I had to change Okita’s whole hair because I couldn’t help but feel like he looked like Iba if I didn’t. Now I’m not saying I “fixed” the ending theme cover, nor I’m claiming this is somehow better. I just did this for fun, to see how cool the pic could have been. And I'm mildly scoffing at the decreasing quality on Hakuouki's offical art.

I have seen people worry about Shinsengumi’s seemingly lack of concern of the stolen uniforms in the new OVA so I kinda made this to fix that since I’m sure this happened somewhere between the scenes :P
