I feel like the Cat King is not the type to say "i love you" out right , so after months of very much dating but not calling it dating Edwin tells Thomas that he thinks it may be time to part ways, the Cat King is very hurt but tries to mask it, asks if Edwin's finally bored of him and, frustrated, and hurt that Thomas doesn't seem to care, Edwin tells him "no, I simply do not want to fall in love with another person who cannot love me back"

and the Cat King, who's tried and failed to keep Edwin at an arm's length this entire time because he was sure Edwin would never actually see him as something worth keeping, just looks at Edwin like "what do you mean 'cannot love you back'? do you not see?? how do you not see the power you have over me already??"

they talk and it ends with the Cat King whispering right into Edwin's mouth, his tone all petulant "of course I love you, ghostie"

later at a get together with everyone the Cat King keeps bickering with people and teasing them, Edwin pulls him back a little to whisper in his ear "be a good kitty" and it's the first instance that Edwin actually manages to fluster Thomas, and the subsequent pissed expression on the Cat King's face makes Edwin laugh and smile with teeth

he leans into Thomas again, this time to tell him "I had no idea. That relationships could be this… joyful. I have never thought that I could have something like this for myself. Thank you." And then it's like a dam has been broken and Thomas just has to kiss him and can't stop fervently whispering "I love you. fuck, I love you"

I find it very cute that during the kiss the Cat King closes his eyes. You can see it in the forest when he thought Edwin would kiss him, and during the scene with the lily. He surrenders to the sensations at that moment, it is important for him. Such a romantic)
