Here is my gift to @nonsal for the @palestaticexchange! I hope you like it! They're likes included the Phasmid as well as Ruby and my mind kept coming back to this idea of Ruby encountering the Phasmid as she hid under the boardwalk. I envisioned this moment as a little island of awe and beauty in the sea of anxiety she must have been feeling. It did mean I had to draw/paint a background but I'm glad I challenged myself and went with it. Close up and initial sketch under the cut.

disco elysium, despite having a male protag and deuteragonist, raised the fucking bar for female characters for me. im picky now. if your game doesnt have complex, interesting, and plot-important women in it, its shit. full offense, fuck you

women are the soul and beating fucking heart of disco elysium. klaasje, patron saint of womens wrongs and problematic bisexuals? joyce, whos one of the most helpful and polite characters in the game towards you and yet understands that her success depends on the suffering of others, but plays in the systems game anyway?? dora, who isnt even dead and yet haunts the narrative start to finish??? ruby, the butch Real One who risks her neck for someone she barely knows yet cant help but feel so much compassion for that it dooms her by the narrative???? elizabeth? soona? cindy? neha? cunoesse? lilienne? The Pigs? paledriver? alice? phillis? im just naming them all at this point, theyre all bangers

Fun thing about me is that I am ALWAYS thinking about the Phasmid. Specifically this quote, and how we get this lovely little glimpse into how this creature so alien to us sees the world. At the end of the day, we're just chemical receptors and sucrose rewards too, just scrambled up into a new combination.

Still one of my favorite moments of the game to watch this guy rise up from the reeds after genuinely refusing to believe it existed. What a strange symbol of hope. What a weird little bug. Tell the cnidarians and radially symmetric I said hello.
