Out of all of my friends, I definitely wouldn’t say that I’m the most optimistic, (I already officially decided that was Rose a few years ago, when Chloe had maliciously torn up some school project of hers and the short haired girl’s immediate response was to cheer because, “Yay! Confetti!”), but I’ve also never figured that I was a pessimistic person either. Maybe it’s the inner reporter in me who prefers to seek the naked, ugly truth, rather than blindly listen to rumours and lies that the public advertises. And, believe me, there’s a lot of “naked” and “ugly” in my current situation.

My transformation has just dropped only moments prior and although I’m fully clothed in my everyday attire, I’ve never felt more exposed– naked.

There’s a cut that stretches across Marinette’s cheekbone, along with a steady, thin stream of blood trickling all the way down her face and into her inky dark hair– ugly. (Except, it’s Marinette Dupain-cheng, so even with an oozing gash on her face, I’m still stuck admiring how damn pretty she looks.)

I’m straddling her waist, pinning Marinette against the harsh concrete floor of the alleyway, a large car that’s been flipped upside down is simultaneously blocking the only entrance and exit– the same vehicle that was just thrown by the latest akuma, (some broad shouldered football player from another high school who had gotten upset after being told he couldn’t play in the next game due to his bad behavior), aimed to flatten Marinette into the world’s first human pancake. That is, if it wasn’t for me practically throwing myself on top of her, sending us both skidding into the sheltered alley. My hands are pressed against the ground next to each side of her head, an attempt to maintain some sort of distance between us, although our noses would still touch if I were to lean down in the slightest.

Usually, I’d definitely be a lot more thrilled about being in such an intimate position with Marinette, but the way her bluebell eyes frantically study every inch of my face reminds me just how catastrophic this situation truly is. Marinette Dupain-Cheng, the baker’s daughter whom I’ve been best friends with, whilst simultaneously crushing on, since the day we shared a macaroon on the first day of school, has just found out my secret identity. Whoops.
