Tip for the day: don't keep your bracelets flat while making them! If you keep them more upright, there will be more tension, and it will help with tighter knots

(my normal bracelet skills are boiled i know •̩̩̩̩ᯅ•̩̩̩ but at least i can do something smaller before i recover)

comission for @partysol-the-umbrella-wielder!

Fun fact: this is the largest pattern that I've tackled so far, at 60 x 91. This beauty took me over 50 (closer to 60) hours, and honestly I'm very happy to break another threshold for myself.
(I do not accept comissions this large at the moment! I cannot afford to work whole months on a single pattern, I'm sorry •́︿•̀)

Gift for my bestie @draco2368 ! These are their favorite colors and also they love octopi. I specifically looked for the hottest pink DMC has available. Pretty simple pattern but kind of obnoxious to follow.

K so not to be dramatic or anything, but there's a free vintage French pattern book available on antiquepatternlibrary so if you like to crochet/weave/make pixel art/tie epic friendship bracelets don't walk- RUN.
It has scenes from aesop's fables! Cherubs doing things! Beheadings! Greek muses! Little farm people! Intricate floral pattern! Goth stained-glass window like patterns! Fun little corner pieces! Eeeeeeeeeeeeee

Knitting! Nope gotta untangle string first
Crochet! After I untangle some string
Weaving - untangle lots of string
Cross stitch - hold up, string is tangled and I am full of rage
Sewing: string tangled into tiny knots of hatred

Eyes are always symbolic to me whenever i make something. If i manage to get past them it's usually the moment i decide to get through the whole thing, regardless how much i mess up or how long it takes.

I had a breakthrough today.
It may seem ironic for a handmade sideblog, but i do have problems with dexterity. For all my years of knotting, I never fully got the "knot consistency" many seasoned bracelet makers have, and even with my experience my work has bumps here and there

This is not a lack of knowledge or experience thing, more of a dexterity problem that i have as an autistic, and highly likely dyspraxic person (not self diagnosing, more like self suspecting)
Now, here's my current work, and the row i implemented the method i'm about to tell you for comparison

Same pair of hands. same knowledge, you can literally see that i do have a more bumpy work earlier on. Do you know what's the difference?
I adjusted every single knot one by one instead of relying on getting the tension right alone.
But how do you do that?
Make a full knot on your pattern (according to whatever you're making)
grab your current string plus the strings that are already knotted in the row (alpha) or section (normal) with your non-dominant hand
using your dominant hand, start adjusting:
If your knot is loose (you see string stick out of the knot), pull on the color string
If your knot is tight (not visible), gently grab it and push it out while holding the other strings down to keep it straight
Use your finger to check if the row is straight. If you see a knot that is uneven (too high or too low), you can use a needle or a nail to gently move it where it should go.
That's it, literally. I just didn't write it down while working on the Ludwig pattern and forgot about it. I hope I can help at least one more person with this!

Here's the comparison with m&l Ludwig!

I don't care if macrames* or crocheting is faster, I love my friendship bracelets.
[elaborating on my bluesky post]
[* technically it is macrame technique, I'm talking specifically about using larger string instead of embroidery floss]
I love seeing a piece of my heart on people's wrists, ita bags, pants, even walls (haven't happened yet, but I'm slowly warming up to making wall hangers). I love inspiring others to make a chevron or a candy stripe, or even learning the alpha patterns themselves. I love using embroidery thread that would otherwise be discarded.
I love how all the imperfect bumps and neat knots feel against my hands. I love taking my time, and even if it sounds like I'm complaining taking 8, 10, or even 25+ hours is a badge of honor.
Although it is a niche and barely anyone knows about it (from all my life i recall *1* person with a proper alpha work, not even sure if made by them/nay), it is also a strength, knowing for 95 percent that nobody has even heard of it, and it really feels like my stuff is ooak. Because it is. No two pairs of hands are the same, and even with an identical pattern and colors it will still be different, some knot tighter, some looser, some do funky beginnings and ends, some use buttons..
One person will do portraits, other will do trendy aesthetics and memes, I personally do pixel art and especially stuff with f/os, some other people will stick to old school patterns from 1970s (!). Because it's so niche, there aren't that many trends and people will follow their own path and it's just amazing to see.
And if you're considering/starting out: Don't compare yourself and get discouraged. It took me several years to get consistent, and I'm still working to improve. The point of friendship bracelets isn't perfection - it's creating something that is yours and sharing that joy with others!
(also dont use safety pins and pants combo, i ruined far too many pairs this way/lh)
