The Middle may have some issues but that show and Bob’s Burgers are the only two sitcoms that have genuinely shown what it’s like to be working class with no inconsistencies. Quite often in sitcoms being poor is used as a joke for one episode to make the family seem more relatable, yet they have a big house or they’re going on fancy holidays but Bob’s Burgers and The Middle are the only ones that say ‘hey, being poor actually isn’t fun and we don’t enjoy this and we work so hard to get out of it but we can’t.’

It also accurately portrays the struggle of the parents trying to break their children free from the cycle of poverty, and in doing so they end up working themselves half to death.
