Glitches continue. Something about #glitch techniques with #glsl #shaders in #processing and #collage materials feels so right. Feeling more and more transformative . Some self portraiture with this code will be coming soon.

Abstract Blend Processing Shader. Considering the import sources as I refine this #glsl #shader for #processing. Thinking again about black and white mask layers. You can really see what a difference different blending modes, and hue saturation and brightness can make.

“The internet was supposed to be empowering, and information has never been more available than it is now. We are all free to go online and express whatever opinions we want. We’re able to get news and learn about real-time events from all over the world — from perspectives we’d never be able to get in the past…things that they’d never show to us on cable news during the war Iraq invasion build-up. Information is supposed to be power. But it doesn’t seem to matter. We can tweet and Twitch stream and Substack as much as we want. We can go online and rant without restriction…we can expose the truth. And yet all this access to info and freedom to speak is about as effective as screaming into a well. It has no effect on power — it just echoes and echoes and then just peters out. It’s as if the more we’re active online, the more plugged in we are, the less power we have over the real world. And the assholes who run this place, old and decrepit as they are, seem to grasp this basic truth. They don’t even bother trying to manufacture consent anymore. They just let us blabber. They let us vent our frustration. And then they do what they want. “Are they hungry? Let them eat free speech!””
— Manufacturing consent? What consent? What manufacturing?

Synchronicity is a manifestation of energies moving through the invisible world and entering the visible world as seeming coincidence. Does coincidence exist apart from synchronicity? I think it does, and coincidental events certainly lie within mathematic probability. But there are events that manifest something other than mathematical possibility, events which call for an engagement with mystery and an enlargement of consciousness. These events ask that we consider whether there are other values to be considered, other perspectives to be honored, other framings to be invited than those that fall within the blinders of conventional, constrictive consciousness.

video strips (shader version) Lately, to keep my programming chops up and my studio art practice in motion, I've been converting my older #processing sketches to versions that utilize #glsl #shaders to handle the graphics aspects. Not sure what the next one will be.

The social media system we have at the moment was designed by engineers. And what engineers like is keeping a stable thing going through feedback, whether it be your central heating or a bridge or anything like that. When you're trapped in a feedback loop, as we are often with these stories, it feels like chaos. It feels like a total wave of endless chaos and apocalypse. And in a funny way, there is a kind of stability to it because you know in your heart of hearts that next week there'll be another apocalypse. I did a film about a guy called Vladislav Surkov who used to advise Putin, who worked this out very, very early on. You tell people that you're messing with their heads, and then they don't know whether you're messing or not. And when you play like that, you can give the illusion of complete chaos, when in fact, actually, not much is really happening, except the old systems of power grinding away outside the theatre.*

You Are The Everything
R.E.M.
All you hear is time stand still in travel
And feel such peace and absolute
The stillness still that doesn't end
But slowly drifts into sleep
The stars are the greatest thing you've ever seen
And they're there for you
For you alone, you are the everything

There is no escape. You can't be a vagabond and an artist and still be a solid citizen, a wholesome, upstanding man. You want to get drunk, so you have to accept the hangover. You say yes to the sunlight and pure fantasies, so you have to say yes to the filth and the nausea. Everything is within you, gold and mud, happiness and pain, the laughter of childhood and the apprehension of death. Say yes to everything, shirk nothing.
Hermann Hesse

"Desire ... merely indicates direction, but never destination; destinations, in any case, always remain phantasmagoric and unclear; the closer we get to them, the more enigmatic they become. By no means is it possible to ever actually attain a given destination, nor, in so doing, appease desire. This process of striving is best encapsulated in the preposition “towards”. Towards what?’

convulsive. mov. #stroboscopic #epilepsywarning A rather convulsive #collage / #montage experiment. At this point I have over 50,000 image elements that have had their backgrounds removed. Lately I am applying #glsl #shaders to any and all recent #processing sketches. This is similar to my last glitch program but feedback is the focus on this one......and it has a very different effect on camera or video footage, but I'm still partial to this setting. #videoart #experimental
