Stuff.
- been feeling a strong transition between mindless decisions and conscious ones - starting to get this whole “core values” concept and how we are all just shaping and affecting them everyday from little decisions we make and people we interact with - it’s been crazy to start fully processing that because I see human beings a little differently now - I remember sitting in social studies class and being taught about history and current events and all that but there’s a huge shift when you’re out there in the world in the thick of these heated conversations, debates or overhearing food court/public transit chatter - been heavily affected by Alain De Buttons book “The Architecture of Happiness” (read in early 2015) - when I was in Barcelona last fall I had an interesting conversation with the tour guide about how buildings hold so much history, respect and can come to define countries and communities (I.e. The stark contrast between European structures and western architecture and observing our personalities affected by these buildings.) - it’s like your bedrooms right? Maybe you do or don’t think too much about how it’s set about and adorned but either way it’s definitely a representation of you; even in your lack of effort. My room/living spaces have always been a sanctuary of sorts for me. If there isn’t a book or candle it doesn’t feel quite right. This entire phase of talking about surroundings/environment and how they affect us has made staying in airbnb places that much more amazing, it’s been crazy to see how much I have in common with complete strangers. - but all of this loops back to the first point: consciousness. In the lack of it, you’re saying something. In the awareness of it, you’re saying something. - was talking to a friend earlier today about self image and being able to tell what someone emanates from the inside. People and their colours; grey, pink, pale, blue, green, red, gold I’ve been all of those separately and at once.
- I guess discovering all of this more carefully, about myself, about others…it makes me excited and disappointed at the same time. I realize there’s heaps of potential but also the grim reality people (including myself, especially in the past) can be really shitty to themselves and the people around them. It’s all about choice, a flip of the coin.

So she spoke her mind boiled out of her like countless meals over the stove
a decade and four years old quiet
trim        collected                 fragrant oregano woman, your stems left behind thrown in, whipped about, overlooked by the unknowing tongue appreciated by distant, low pounding, heaving drums
so small the delight, so big the nuances of you you give until the pot is empty I, too, guilty of spoon and scrape But how I love you, dear rosemary woman spread about and dipped in oil rich your name rolls off tongues like rising bread in a familiar place But even humble herbs bundled       purchased grow in fields large wide open under days diverse and treacherous among friends and thorny vines drying out in winters time in this way, you too are allowed to crumble but there is more from where you came that is just yours a field under the moon to graze by resilient details your dreams never buried mapped out inside like a familiar synthesis calm tender stirs spoons, knives and forks the table is set the napkins in fresh fold grab your ladle and begin to pour - D

Top photo: “Edle, Anne and Fredrik were the last generation growing up in Hermannsdalen. From November until April the family lived completely isolated. When Edle was eight years old, her grandfather took her and her sister Anne to the top of the mountain. From there, they could look down on their neighbours in the Village Vinstead. She had never seen other houses before.”
“Around 1950, families in small and remote fishing villages in Lofoten, Northern Norway, were offered a lump sum from the Government to leave their homes and relocate to more central places. They also committed never to return and resettle.”
“Neighbors and friends through generations packed everything they owned and left their homes and each other. Villages were totally abandoned within months. Due to shortage of building materials, they dismantled their houses and brought their homes with them as well, leaving only foundations. The traditional self-sufficient ways of life were lost, and a part of the coastal culture with it.
Today, 60 years later, nature has reclaimed the areas. Looking closer however, signs of lived lives still remain; stone fences and foundations still stand, surrounded by hidden paths and traces of gardens with herbs and flowers.“
