Like they reunited years after the events of American Idiot, and JOS is promising to get clean for her so they can, at the very least, be friends again

Under The Covers 4 "Predictions"

So... Under The Covers 4 has been confirmed (and people at the Dallas show got a sneaky peak, the lucky sods)

I'm using quotations because these are less "predictions" and more "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE COVER THESE SONGS PLEASE PLEASE". If any of you guys have ideas/hopes for the album, let me know!

Under The Covers 4

Let's get this out of the way: there's definitely gonna be a Rush song. I don't listen to them so I don't have any specific ideas, but there will be at least one song by them

I also think there will be at least one Def Leppard song (I'm PRAYING for Women or Stagefright purely because they're two of my favourite tracks)

People have been asking for Cherry Pie by Warrant since the start, so maybe they'll finally cave and give the people what they want

Rock You Like A Hurricane by Scorpion

This one, admittedly, is a bit more of a stretch, but I think White Wedding by Billy Idol would be cool. It fits the decade they usually cover, so it's not totally unusual

Host!Vic and Bianca: A Film By Greta Gerwig

I wouldn't say I'm particularly deep into the VIP fandom, but I've been contemplating the relationship between Host!Vic and Bianca for a while. Specifically, I've been comparing it to the relationship between the mother and daughter in the 2017 film Ladybird

So... enjoy the ramblings of someone with way too many thoughts and far too much free time

Bianca and Ladybird

Although we see, and know, very little about Bianca from the show, she reminds me a lot of Ladybird. Both are young women that are unsatisfied with their current positions, and express some sort of desire to leave the town they inhabit in the pursuit of bigger and better things

In essence, they're both caged birds actively trying to tear their prison down and fly away

Host!Vic and Marion

It's important to note that the differing circumstances surrounding these characters will affect how they behave towards their respective kids*, specifically:

Marion has only ever been "the mother" to Ladybird, whereas Host!Vic and Bianca knew each other as college students (though we know little about whether they were friends)

Both the characters are dealing with different struggles. It was revealed in Nicole Byer's episode ("Candice") that Host!Vic is in the process of getting divorced from Bianca's father. On the other hand, Marion struggles stem from financial instability and her role as the breadwinner

The age difference between them and their children is different. Host!Vic and Bianca are of a similar age, whereas Marion and Ladybird have a larger age gap

*For me, it's important that these differences are noted out in order to remove bias. Every argument has a counterpoint, and to ignore this would be unfair

However, even with all of these variables, some similarities do emerge. In particular, both of them are prime examples of overbearing parents, resulting in a tense relationship with their daughters. Host!Vic is shown to be torn between being frustrated with Bianca (even going as far as referring to her as a bully in the Oscar Montoya + Jiavani/"Jasper + Casper" episode), and constantly wanting to have her close by:

The Paul Robalino/"Skyler Demarco" episode reveals that they've been reading Bianca's Wikipedia page

In the scene GIF'd above, they express disappointment that Bianca is living her life away from them in New York

While it's unclear how much say Host!Vic had in the decision, we can assume they were both aware that Bianca was applying for a job on their show, and allowed her to be hired

In comparison, while Marion's obsession is less about keeping Ladybird around, she's shown to put a lot of pressure on her to prioritize a well-paying job over following her ambitions. Marion has a clear vision of her daughter's future, which she ends up trying to push onto her several times throughout the film

Both Host!Vic and Marion display a need to control elements of their daughter's lives, and exhibit overbearing traits that end up driving them away

Familial Ties (But Do You Like Me?)

Harking back to the scene mentioned before, one specific line from Host!Vic:

Reminded me of this scene from Ladybird:

For those that haven't seen Ladybird (or just need a refresher), this is the scene where Ladybird and Marion go shopping for prom dresses. Tensions rise, and Ladybird admits that she wishes her mother liked her. When Marion responds that "of course [I] love [you]", her daughter responds with the quote above

The way Host!Vic phrases their statement implies that they believe that their relationship as co-workers is more important than their relationship as family. However, Host!Vic doesn't make any attempts at pretending that link between them doesn't exist

To me, it feels like these two scenes could easily run into each other. There's a seemingly begrudging acknowledgement of their family ties, which is further supported by Vic Michaelis themselves describing their relationship as "tethered" on their story

This feels like a question that both Bianca and Ladybird want to know the answer to: "if you weren't obligated to love me, would you like who I am?"

It's hard to come to a proper conclusion, given how little we know of their relationship, and how little we see of Bianca. However, it feels like the more we find out, the messier and more complex it gets

What I can say is that, when I see them, I see a parent that feels a moral duty to be there for their step-daughter, despite their dislike of them. I also see a woman that feels suffocated by step-parent that she feels chained to - which, in tandem, locks her in place in life

Personally, I think that finding too much about them would ruin the comedic aspect of the show to some degree, but that won't stop me reading way too into things - case in point!

I know Dan doesn't really feature until the end, but it's still Super Guitar Bros, plus it features on the album

It's just a stunning rendition, I love the way it sounds on guitar

They gave it a magical-sounding feel

The kind of song that feels like it was made for Super Guitar Bros to cover

And then the vocals kick in and it's just GORGEOUS

Honestly I wish more people gave this cover attention, it's breath-taking

Ranking Black Mirror 7 Episodes (SPOILER-FREE)

Finally got round to binge-watching the new season, and it was a pretty damn strong one! Figured I'd rank them all for the funsies, let me know what you think!

6. Bête Noire

Great build-up, not so satisfying payoff

Felt like it was leaning towards being a commentary on the villainization of Black woman and "white woman tears", which would've been a lot more interesting

High-quality and great cast

5. USS Callister: Into Infinity

Pretty decent sequel

Enjoyed the premise, also nice to see the old cast again

Just as fun and action-packed as the first one

Rocky = best character in TV history

4. Eulogy

Absolutely gut-wrenching

People judge the main guy (who absolutely deserves criticism), but I think this episode shines a powerful light on regret and accountability. You don't have to justify your mistakes in order to move on. But you have to accept your wrongdoings, instead of sitting around blaming everyone else or letting them swallow you whole

Sometimes, all we can do with our past mistakes is live with and learn from them
