The battle for AI dominance is not finite.
: State of the industry
Tumblr media

Author: John
Friendly readers,
With it software and hardware capabilities I know for sure Nvidia will be competing in the AI race for a very long time.
Presently Nvidia is said to hold 80% of the AI semiconductor market. This have been possible because of its leaders ability to innovate and correctly predict the future.
Nvidia started producing GPUs for games; this made it possible for game developer to make that are realistic than what was previously in the market.
Then it this GPUs were used for simulations and Bitcoin mining and they used for training AI models. Nvidia has also moved to software compatibilities with it introduction of CUDA and Blackwell platform. This software helps the hardware work efficiently.
At the Hill, in an interview with CNBC Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says "Huawei is one of the most formidable companies in the world." "China is not behind the US in AI development."
He further cited that China is right on par with the US, with China having 50% of the world AI researcher.
With competition from the US and outside the US, startups and trade tension I think Nvidia might shed some of its market share but it will continue to be a global leader for many years to come.

Facts about the Semiconductor industry
: State of the industry
Tumblr media
Wednesday, 10:45 pm
May 07, 2025
Author: John
Friendly readers,
The semiconductor industry directly employs over a quarter of a million workers in the United States, and U.S. semiconductor sales totaled $264 billion in 2023.
U.S. exports of semiconductors totaled $52.7 billion in 2023, sixth-highest behind exports of refined oil, crude oil, aircraft, natural gases, and autos.
In 2023, sales outside the U.S. comprised about three-quarters of total U.S. semiconductor industry sales.
Despite the downturn in sales and export value in 2023, growth in the U.S. chip industry continues to be promising with projections of double-digit growth in 2024.
The U.S. semiconductor industry invested 19.5% of revenue into R&D in 2023, ranking second to the U.S. pharmaceuticals and biotechnology industry in terms of the rate of R&D spending as a percent
of sales.
While global competitors are increasing their R&D investments to compete with the U.S.
industry, American firms spend more on R&D than any other country’s semiconductor industry.
These high levels of reinvestment into R&D drive innovation in the U.S. semiconductor industry and, in turn, help maintain global sales market leadership and jobs throughout the United States.
In 2023, overall U.S. semiconductor industry investment in R&D totaled $59.3 billion. The growth in R&D spending in 2023 represented an increase of 0.9% over 2022.
R&D expenditures by U.S. semiconductor firms tend to be consistently high, regardless of cycles in annual sales, which reflects the importance to our industry of investing in innovation.
Since the late 1990s, the U.S. has been the global sales market share leader for chips, and in 2023,
the U.S. semiconductor industry continued that trend, accounting for 50.2% of global sales revenue.
In addition, U.S. semiconductor firms maintain a leading or highly competitive position in R&D, design, and manufacturing process technology. Global sales market share leadership also allows the U.S. semiconductor industry to benefit from a virtuous cycle of innovation.

Could Nvidia produce GPU cheaply in America
Economics of Nvidia
Tumblr media
Tuesday, 10:45 pm
May 06, 2025
Author: John
Friendly readers,
A quotes from Jensen Huang have been roaming through my mind and I felt the need to discuss it here.
"I am sure we can manufacture chips on shore with resources of our country" this is what Jensen Huang had to said at the hill when asked how tariff is impacting everything.
But, What does this mean?
Does he mean when he says we can manufacture chips on shore? Does this mean we will manufacture cheaply?
Tumblr media
According to the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) there is a lack of skilled worker in tech. And the number of applicants for tech jobs have seen a reduction, while most of those that graduate are foreigners and they leave for their country immediately after graduation.
This leaves this companies two options to either bringing in workers from other countries or to move production to places with more experienced workers.
If you continue to import workers to fill the gap of unskilled workers in the U.S this makes manufacturing chips more expensive and with the chip market becoming more competitive every day this might be a problem.
If you move production outside the U.S you might get to produce chips at a cheaper price but the goal of building an American own factory for the production of chips will die.
Let say we all go to sleep and we wake up and all of a sudden america has enough skilled workers for producing chip. It will still be expensive to produce as everything in America cost more when you compare to other countries like china, Malaysia and Brazil.

Does Nvidia have plans to Navigate through tariffs and trade restrictions.
: Quick take
Tumblr media

May 04, 2025
Author: John
Friendly readers,
As far as we know Nvidia has not laid down it plan on how it will be tackling restrictions and navigating through economic uncertainties.
What we do know is that Nvidia has had dinner with the president in his, probably to discuss this challenges.
While Nvidia has been talking to the president Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang visit has also visited china and assured the Chinese government that it would continue to do business with China.
On 28th May 2025, Nvidia will release it's earnings report we also hope that Nvidia gives us guidance on what to expect from the coming months.
What will be state of Nvidia when the 90 days pause on tariffs expires. Companies around the world have mainly said they won't slow down their spending on AI, as AI is now a race.
My question is if the 90 days pause expires and trump doesn't get a deal what will happen then?
Will companies still follow through with their spending plan or significantly cut back spending?
Tariffs makes things very expensive and even companies have limit to what they can spend on a particular project.
How is Nvidia planning to overcome the next 6 months, do they even have a plan? I guess we'll have to wait and see

Could this really be the end of Nvidia in china
Quick take
Tumblr media
Saturday, 10:45 pm
May 03, 2025
Author: John
Friendly readers,
Brian Colello, equity strategist at morningstar has this to say when asked about Nvidia as Huawei announced the rollout of their own chip that is said to rival Nvidia's H100. "Oh, I think the head wind is in place, and I think it is pretty much game over for Nvidia in china..."
Could this really be Game over for Nvidia in china?
Stacy Rasgon, Bernstein Managing director and senior analyst seems to agree with Brian citing the only chip that Nvidia was allowed to export to china is the H20 which already has limited performance and the chip Huawei has, performs better than what Nvidia was offering china.
Aside from some other things missing like energy efficiency and software compatibility Huawei chips have been proving to have a better performance than Nvidia.
But when it comes to the high-end stuff Nvidia still dominates the world in that category but they are ban from being exported to china.
Brian Colello thinks the ban on H20 chips export to china is the last of it china could take and this makes china pretty much done with Nvidia.
He also added that Nvidia should forget china and focus on developed market like the U.S, Europe and Japan which it has a strong foot hold.
Stacy Rasgon thinks the U.S restrictions on Nvidia chip export to china could in the long-term be what could make the Chinese more motivated to achieve dominance in the chips manufacturing.
"... We are forcing them down paths that maybe they would not have taken like I have said ..." (Stacy Rasgon)
For now spending on AI training has not slowed down and there is no sign of it slowing down. Nvidia Grace Blackwell platform is at forefront of this development and with top tech firms as customers this only boost Nvidia's importance.
AI is the future. Huawei might roll out its Ascend chip and it might be a hit and Nvidia might see a decrease in revenue this year but the AI race is not over and Nvidia still has a lot to be bullish about.
Let the government leave Nvidia alone.

Top quotes from this week on Nvidia
: listen to what analyst are saying.
Tumblr media
Friday, 10:45pm
May 02, 2025
Author: John
Friendly readers,
"... they are executing very well on their new platform which is called Blackwell, so that's ramping up. They are obviously headwind in china and that will be a factor over the coming months but the most important thing for Nvidia is executing on their product cycle, really delivering value to their customers. if you think about AI really the new wave of innovation around generative AI you have areas that are really getting revolutionalised, think about Health care is one example in terms of drug discovery, financial services with fraud detection, digital twins with manufacturing. And so Nvidia really sits at the heart of a lot of this transformation and So if they are able to continue executing, attracting developers to their ecosystem I think the stock could be a strong performer over the years..." (Dan Flax: Neuberger Berman managing director)
"... the other side of the AI bull market is what is the consumer side what is the enterprise side for demand for this products, and what we are seeing over the last 3 months, I don't think this is being reflected in stock at all is that there is huge demand for this products and I think it is accelerating..." ( Doug Clinton: Intelligent alpha founder and CEO)
"... with or without China, Nvidia in part, because of their dominance with CUDA, they will be the dominant suppliers of AI in 2025, 2026, 2027. I think it certainly hurts that they can't sell to china but at the same time I also believe in AI and I think Nvidia is going to be the primary beneficiary on the hardware side of AI eventually getting used for everything" (Matt Bryson: Wedbush securities semiconductor analyst)
"... as it relates to Nvidia, it's seen china bans over the last few years and has been able to navigate the ever changing geopolitical landscape well such that it would be foolish to think Nvidia would not find a business solution for this new issue." (Wells Fargo's take)

Nvidia and the U.S government: a note to all Nvidians
Tumblr media
Thursday, 10:45pm
May 01, 2025
Author: John
Friendly readers,
What would happen if the U.S continue to to place restrictions on Nvidia chips?
Tumblr media
Over the past few weeks Nvidia and other tech. CEOs have been meeting with the he U.S president Donald Trump on the issue of tariff and chips restrictions.
The first meeting Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang had with the president was to discuss his company's plan to build a $500 billion AI infrastructure.
Donald Trump wasted no time to time make a show of the announcement as a win for the American people.
Shockwave swept through wall street when the following day it was announced that Nvidia have ordered to get additional license to export it H20 chips to china.
This sudden development reportedly cost Nvidia a $5.5billion charge back.
Now several wall Street analyst have touted on the fact that it going to be very difficult for Nvidia to keep its promise on bringing back chips manufacturing if they keep getting this restrictions placed on them.
What has the AI diffusion act placed by Biden, restricting Nvidia on the amount of chips it could sell to other countries actually achieved?
Tumblr media
This is certain, the AI diffusion act has placed a Cap on the amount of chips that can be exported to other countries including the Allies of the U.S like Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, India and Israel.
What this means is that Nvidia's expansion outside the U.S is also limited despite the fact that majority of the chips Nvidia sells is outside the U.S.
The government has always defended the AI diffusion act as a way to stop china circumventing the U.S export controls.
But the issue with this is that it temporary solution. China will continue to grow other countries with resources will continue to develop chips and with it competition will rise.
Nvidia is at the forefront of semiconductor industry but how long will this last, who knows. I do believe Nvidia will be around for the next 500 years but will it still be a leading power in chip development.
Ask the competition.

Letter to shareholders: why investors should not worry about Huawei new AI chip release.
Tumblr media
Week 16, Q2
Sunday, 10:45pm
April 29, 2025
Author: John
Friendly readers,
Huawei was the talk of the internet as it gets ready to roll out it's new chip the Ascend910D. The Ascend910D is reported to use packaging technology that can improve performance by adding more silicone dies.
While the development of Huawei Ascend910D chip shows it ability to innovate quick the question still remains. Is it something that Nvidia and it investors should be worried about?
Tumblr media
Performance:
The Ascend910D is the most powerful chips Huawei has ever produced and it performance have been compared to be on par with Nvidia's H100 chips analyst thinks.
The Chip made by Huawei are good but the Blackwell chips made by Nvidia can make a trillion calculation in minutes, which is far more advanced than what Huawei is trying to produce.
Companies that stick with the Ascend910D for long will take longer time training and inferencing their AI model, this might see the price of their AI training go up significantly as models become complex.
Efficiency:
Analyst have quoted that the Ascend910D consumes more energy the less calculations compared to the H100, and as the world is looking to do more with less power shows that the appeal for this Huawei chip might be limited.
Trade barriers:
Companies like ASML and TSMC have been restricted from selling key technology required to produce chips, this puts Huawei on a major disadvantage with Nvidia as it chips have performance ability that would not be appealing to buyers outside china.
Software compatibility:
Huawei also faces the risk of integrating seamlessly with already existing technology. Major technology companies even in china have built their products architecture around Nvidia.
Huawei is a great Chinese company but right now there are too many barriers to overcome if it wants to be seen as a significant player in the Semiconductor industry, but for now it's no where near Nvidia.

Is now the right time to buy Nvidia?: what you should look out for
Tumblr media
Week 16, Q2
Sunday, 10:45pm
April 28, 2025
Author: John
Friendly readers,
Over the past weeks Nvidia's stock price has been deeply affected by government regulations such as tariffs and export restrictions. This event has mainly been the reason Nvidia stock isn't doing so well in 2025, and has led me to answer the question "is now the right time to buy Nvidia?"
Tumblr media
Nvidia started as a hardware tech company but has now grown to develop a platform where its software helps make the hardware perform better. When it to comes to GPUs Nvidia is at the forefront and no other company even come close to what Nvidia is producing. Nvidia's platforms like CUDA and Blackwell are used in every industry like AI training, manufacturing, Engineering and construction e.t.c.
Tumblr media
Apart from the government restrictions on Nvidia to sell it chips to china, Nvidia has seen a demand accelerate for it most advanced chips. Sources say that demand is so high it not going away anytime soon, but analyst still worry that the government trying to use Nvidia as a pawn in it's trade war will force the Chinese to work through gates which they never would have. Rising local competition in china suggest that this is already happening and Huawei is leading this race in china.
Nvidia management is filled with the most competent people in tech, with the CEO that has been with the company since its inception and one who is at helm of the company's success. Nvidia has been rank among the top 10 best places to work and this is evident in the amount of time on average an employee spend with Nvidia.
Tumblr media
If you are look to buy or sell Nvidia stock my verdict is yes. Nvidia has gone far in it's development of technology that is necessary in running our world but, it still has a long way to go and the company knows this and it is reflected in every new product they launch. The stock price might be down significantly today from it all time high but as far as I can see the company's fundamentals hasn't changed and the technology they develop touches every aspect of our lives it is something to believe in.
The question is do you believe?

NVIDIA IS GOING ON WHERE.:I believe in Nvidia's technology.
Tumblr media
Week 16, Q2
Sunday, 10:45pm
April 27, 2025
Author: John
Friendly readers,
It is no news that the future of technology is Artificial intelligence, and powering AI, Nvidia's GPU is the most used GPU in training AI. But since the beginning of the year Nvidia share price is down by about 25%. With rising economic uncertainty and geopolitical tension, what does the future hold for Nvidia.
Nvidia sells it product to almost all industries in the S&P500 with a customer base of 40,000 companies. It product offers solutions to Autonomous driving, Artificial intelligence, Design and simulations, Data center e.t.c.
With a market capitalization of $2.5T Nvidia is the most valuable company in the Semiconductor industry. But with a falling share price, increase competition especially from china and restrictions on it's chips going to china leave it future uncertain.
Tumblr media
Falling share price:
The semiconductor industry is built on the premise of increasing chip performance and decreasing price. But Nvidia have been selling it high end chips and demand is strong, infact sources say it is accelerating and I think the market will reflect that in months to come as long as Nvidia continues to provide value to it customers.
Increasing competition:
With rising competition at home and abroad Nvidia has something to be scared about but in the main time no one produces anything that comes close to what Nvidia does. Nvidia's strategy of selling software alongside hardware gives it an edge in the marketplace, with this Nvidia build developers an ecosystem to run operations seamlessly.
Regulations:
The recent restrictions placed on Nvidia H20 chips by U.S government making it difficult to sell to china is bummer on Nvidia. but, Nvidia was never allowed to sell anything worthwhile to china and it has not slowed down the demands for it's higher grade chips from other countries. Nvidia's CEO on his visit to china this April assured the Chinese government that he would continue to serve Chinese market. But the question is how will he do it?
I think Nvidia's at the core has not changed, they have a CEO that has been with the company since its inception, they haven't stopped innovating and the restrictions is something they cannot control and I trust them to navigate through this.

To be honest this is my issue with the ban that we got last week on Nvidia's china offerings; they've already been heavily constrained by export controls, the part that they were allowed to sell in china was called H20 the performance was already limited, and the parts that Huawei had available actually they have better performance they're missing some other things, software compatibility but they have better performance..." They have to and so yes does it slowly then down it probably does but if I'm looking out you know 5years or 10years might we be faced with a more competitive china because they were forced to be creative because engineers tend to do their best work when they are under constraints and because they are not stupid and they have no choice I mean yeah I wonder if we're opening up gates that maybe in hindsight we'll have regretted pushing them through its certainly possible." (Stacy Rasgon; Bernstein Managing director and senior analyst. Yahoo finance)
