i post a bunch of images but i never talk about these creatures so hi this is arc eye, he's a little carbuild (vw golf 1974 babey!!!) and he's an astronautical engineer. he has an outlier ability which enables him to "see faster". he's gay married to a decepticon space shuttle named windstorm and they have 2 children together...so beautiful

What is this?

My attempt at a homegrown zine for original Transformers characters in 2023! I just want to see more cool TF art and spread original Transformers content. I feel like a lot of fandom/convention/zine content has lost that casual, throw-it-together feel as well as being more and more paywalled, so this is my hope at fighting against that.

How do I apply?

Is this zine juried?

No — the first ten to fifteen applicants will be the artists included in the zine, though I do retain the right to reject any applicant for any reason. I will be capping the zine at about twenty pages total.

How many pieces can I submit?

One! Either a one-page piece or a two-page spread. Comics welcome!

When do applications close?

Applications close whenever I hit the cap.

How should I format my files?

I will be printing the zine on 8.5x11 inch sheets of paper and folding them to create a booklet, meaning that each page will be roughly 5.5x8.5 inches. Full bleed (an image reaching the edges of the page rather than having a margin) will be available for this zine — just make sure you format your files correctly, especially if you’re doing a two-page spread! Otherwise the dimensions might be slightly off.

How should I format my files for the risograph?

The way the risograph works is that it takes opacity and translates it into color! For example, a file you feed into the risograph that looks like this (left) will come out like that (right).

Knowing this, you can have lots of fun layering different opacities with different colors! That’s the true beauty of risograph!

The two colors I’ll be using are Blue and Fluorescent Pink — you can use the Multiply function in most digital art programs to “test” what the colors will look like on the final product, but know that it’ll probably look a little different IRL. Programs won’t be able to fully replicate how the inks layer.

You can also draw a piece in full color and convert it for risograph printing. Here’s a good YouTube tutorial for it here. Unfortunately, you need Photoshop for that tutorial. If you have a Mac, you can also use the program Spectralight. Alternatively, if you have neither of these, you can also just send me your full color file and I can convert it for you.

Basically, for your final piece, I’ll have two greyscale files from you — one for the color Fluo Pink, and one for the color Blue. Please name the files accordingly or I won’t know which is which!!

Will this zine be sold for profit?

No. The zine will be available for free online and will be mailed to anyone who wishes to have a copy for free + the cost of shipping (roughly $6).

If every artist agrees, I may eventually start selling them at conventions for the cost of production (roughly $15).
