Beginning in February, Internet Week, in partnership with CBRE, will launch NYC Tech Digs, a video series that offers an inside look at the most creative tech workplaces in New York City. The series will include exclusive tours, interviews, and more from rising startups in co-working spaces, mid-sized companies, and global corporations with unique offices in NYC.

While scouring the five boroughs to find the most innovative tech spaces, Internet Week is also accepting submissions. To nominate your office for the NYC Tech Digs series, e-mail photos of your workspace and a few sentences about your company and its culture.

Women in Tech Program

NYC Digital and the NYC Department of Education recently hosted Women in Tech, which introduced female students from the City's public schools to some of the New York City's local tech companies. Students met with women working in various technology roles, and learned about a variety of career opportunities in the tech industry. More than 300 female students from 14 New York City public schools visited a local tech companies, including AOL/Huffington Post, AT&T, Etsy, Facebook, GE, General Assembly, Gilt Groupe, Google, Rent the Runway, Shutterstock, Tumblr, Twitter, XO Group and Yahoo!.

Visits to the tech companies featured office tours, breakout groups for students to connect with mentors and participate in one-on-one discussions with industry leaders, and panels where students had the opportunity to ask questions and hear firsthand from women in engineering, design, project management, entrepreneurship, and a variety of other positions in tech. 

From my vantage point, it was incredibly empowering for the girls to get to see women doing this work at a high level, and to see a workplace unlike any other they've seen. In addition to Women in Tech, the City has developed a wide range of programs that provide professional development opportunities to students and build diversity in the tech sector. Since 2012, the City has connected over 300 high school and college students from diverse backgrounds with internships at technology companies in New York City. Legal Clinic: Intellectual Property Issues for Startups

In the early stages of a new business, intellectual property can be critical for protecting the company’s core ideas, generating revenue, and attracting investors. At this legal clinic, you will receive pro-bono legal advice from volunteer attorneys with the New York State Bar Association. Attorneys will be available to answer questions relating to intellectual property strategy, licensing, monetization, patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret and litigation.

Pre-registration is required so that we can properly match attorneys and attendees. Assistance will be limited to that which can be given during the clinic session and will be delivered to those that pre-register on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Staten Island MakerSpace is a non-profit, community workspace for makers, builders, tinkerers, hardware developers, hobbyists, artists, entrepreneurs, and anyone with a curious mind who wants to make something. It offers tools, equipment, resources, workshops, and 6000 sq ft of space for you to make your ideas come to life.
