Ok, I'm new to the Baldur's Gate series, but I checked and this is a pretty surprising lore drop

As far as I've read,

Xan only is a companion in BG1, he doesn't get to be in BG2 outside of a tutorial (unless you use mods)

Xan is not romance-able even in the Extended Editions (again, unless you use mods)

In the novel adaptation, Xan doesn't even last long and gets killed off by a giant spider (having only 7 constitution will do that to ya)

So canonically either he never confessed his feeling, or he and Jaheira adventured with another Bhaalspawn.
