     For Izzy growing up, the world really was her oyster. Born the second of three girls to her doting parents, what the Vasquez family lacked in social and financial status, they made up for in love. Even if it wasn’t exactly what they had asked for, her parents always did what what they could to give their daughters whatever they wanted. What Izzy wanted was always easy to predict: for every good report card or lack of cavities at dental appointments, she’d request a trip to the bookstore as a reward. She was never one to be overtly social, and she would cry if forced to play outside with her sisters. But tucked away inside her room at night, a book light clipped to the cover of her latest adventure, was where Izzy found peace.

     Her love of reading evolved into a love for writing as she got older, with Izzy placing in a handful of regional and statewide writing contests. Verbal communication hasn’t come too easily to her, but writing is her true passion. That’s why there was no surprise when she chose to major in education, with an emphasis on language arts, when she got to college. It isn’t just that Izzy wants to make her passion into a career — she wants to inspire the next generation of readers and writers, too.      Izzy never quite lost the part of her that was constantly labelled a weirdo in school. She’s still often found with at least two books in her purse, she spends her evenings perusing astrology accounts on Twitter, and she unironically loves the dark academia aesthetic. But she’s also learned that now, at 30, her penchant for isolation has become less of a safety net, and more so something for her parents to comment on every time she visits. “Are you seeing anyone?” “Don’t you want to settle down?” “Aren’t you worried about being alone?” The answer to all of those question is, truthfully, no. Her job is her number one priority at the moment. But Izzy also wonders if her parents’ prodding isn’t something she should be concerned about. She’s willing to at least try putting herself out there, for their sake.

     olivia king is the only child her parents had before their divorce when she was barely two and a half. her mom split and she’s had no contact with the woman who gave birth to her since then - truthfully, she doesn’t remember her. olivia doesn’t know why her parents divorced, she’s never asked her dad about it and she’s pretty okay with not knowing. her dad was great and she’s never felt like she’d missed anything by not having her birth mom in her life. shortly after her mom’s disappearing act, liv’s dad packed her up and moved their family to Boutte, just about half an hour outside of NOLA so they could be near his family.

     olivia will tell anyone who asks that she had an amazing childhood because she did. her dad and her stopmom, shannon, met when liv was almost four and they married barely a year later - shannon is and always has been very much her mom so their wedding was the best thing in the little girl’s world. at least until a little more than a year later when samuel came along. liv’s younger brother is very much her best friend, and partner in crime.

     she knew early on she wanted to teach and never once did she waver from that dream. not a single person was surprised when she announced her acceptance to asu or that her major would be education. she worked hard in college and is now working as a 3rd grade teacher, sometimes picking up odd jobs here and there to make ends meet.

     Liv (or O but never Olivia) grew up in Chandler, Arizona, and by the time she started high school, she knew she’d get out of that state if it was the last thing she did. She got a part-time job as soon as she could legally do so, and began saving up, wanting to get to as different of a state as she could. California was fun, but it was still too close so when graduation came around, she got on a plane and made her way to New York City.

     It didn’t take long for O to realize how much she’d be spending on rent alone every month. Between that and college, she knew that working at the corner coffee shop wasn’t going to do her any good. People always joked about how stripping paid more than any “real” career, but now that she was on her own, that seemed more and more like a possibility for her. After a couple weeks of thinking it over, O found herself applying for a job at Sapphire. Four years later, she graduated with a degree in marketing, but has yet to do anything with it. She knows she makes more money dancing and sitting in men’s laps every night, so she’s planning on riding her career for as long as people will let her.

BEST DAY OF MY LIFE SO FAR…Getting the fuck out of Arizona. I know it’s cliche to run off to New York, but it doesn’t feel so bad when I go on Instagram and see how much it would suck to be like Ashleigh and her four kids back in Chandler. This city is fucking awesome and moving into my apartment was one of the best days of my life by far.

     Born the youngest of two with a pretty significant age gap between himself and his sister, Noah was often called his mom’s sunshine baby. Truth be told, sunshine is a pretty accurate description of his personality that or golden retriever which was a pretty common description when he was a kid. With a nine year age difference, by the time Noah was old enough to really do anything, his sister had his own life, so Noah was pretty used to finding his own fun which just so happened to translate into finding his way into trouble with his tendency to do first and ask questions later.

     It was in that recklessness that Noah figured out what he wanted to do. At nine, while climbing a tree he had definitely been told to stay out of, he fell out of the tree and broke his ankle. Of course that meant a trip to the emergency room. But it was there that Noah fell in love with nurses and doctors and medicine. He vividly remembers one of his nurses being amazing and he decided then and there he was going to be just like him when he grew up. Sure, there were times he got sidetracked from his goal - middle school for example when he was sure he was going to be a pro soccer player - but he never steered so far from the path that he forgot what he wanted to do.

     It was sheer luck and applying everywhere that landed him working in as an RN on the peds floor at a hospital in Brooklyn. He’s working on his MSN with a focus on pediatrics with the hope that as soon as he has enough experience he’ll be able to become a PNP. He loves his job, loves working with kids and their families. Loves the ability to turn what could be the worst moment of a child’s life into something that isn’t so tainted with fear and pain.

     Elena – lovingly nicknamed Lenny by her father who desperately wanted a son – grew up in Miami, Fl, the youngest of four girls. Though their two bedroom apartment often felt too crowded, her parents made sure to fill it with lots of food, laughter and love. And dance, which just so happened to be Lenny’s favorite thing. Four mouths to feed meant she couldn’t take lessons at the studio the girls at school bragged about, and while she was kind of jealous of the costumes they got to wear she was pretty sure she got the better end of the deal taking lessons with her favorite Tia for free. And as she grew, Lenny would pay for those lessons by teaching classes, cleaning the studio, and helping sew costumes for recitals.

     In her teens, she’d get her first formal training when (after much begging, pleading and ass kissing) she attended the local performing arts high school. There, not only would she hone her dancing skills, she’d also learn about acting and singing and auditioning – and by the time they wrapped the fall musical? Lenny was hooked. She didn’t have a clue how she was going to do it, but Lenny Gomez was going to be on Broadway. She picked up a second job at another dance studio, teaching week nights, and a third at a restaurant washing dishes, scrimping and saving whatever didn’t go to help the family for her future.

     Growing up on the water in Bar Harbor, Maine, Roz’s father always teased her that it wasn’t a stork that brought her to them, but rather a mermaid. And who was Roz to disagree when she took to the water like a fish. Crashing waves didn’t scare her off, neither did the chill of the Northern Atlantic, and as soon as her mother allowed, she was strapped into a life vest and at her father’s side as he captained charters. She stayed right at his side for years then, learning the ins and outs of boat safety and maintenance, and navigation and fisheries until she was piloting small vessels of her own.

    After high school she studied business and completed her necessary boating certifications while continuing to shadow her dad. Her goals were to follow his footsteps and eventually become a mainstay in the family charter business alongside her father and brother Cal, but then Lily caught her eye one summer. When Lily wanted to leave for New York, Roz offered her boat as transportation. And while Lily ended up only being a summer fling, Roz found that New York had grown on her. It took a few years of working on other vessels and establishing the Hart name and reputation outside of Maine, but business has steadily grown into a profitable living and Roz knowns her family, and especially her father, is proud of what she’s accomplished.

    Roz tried living in Manhattan proper for a few years. She lived alone, she saved money with roommates, but ultimately she really missed being able to walk outside her home’s doors and be steps from a pier and the sound of waves. That’s why a year ago she decided to ditch apartment living and opt instead to take on the sea full-time in a house boat. Her living situation has made for a few awkward post-date endings, but it makes Roz happy, and Roz has learned over the years that her happiness is what most matters.

    Which is also how Roz has decided on adding her information to NYILU. There’s so much in her life she’d like to share with people beyond her family and closest friends, and she thinks sharing her life with someone special can only increase her happiness.

     home is a sacred place, somewhere you can relax, unwind, and truly be comfortable. in a city of millions, your home is perhaps even more important - whether you’re in a cramped studio in soho, or sharing a loft in williamsburg with six others. 

           for this task, we invite you to share your muses home with others - through aesthetics, descriptions, graphics of any sort, etc. you can use places like ZILLOW or APARTMENTS to find realistic homes for your muses to live.  things to keep in mind: 

how much money are they making? what can they afford? can they afford their own place, or do they have to share it with roommates? 

if they have roommates, how did they meet? were they friends beforehand? do they get along at all? 

what’s in the neighborhood? what’s their favorite delivery place? their local bodega, or pharmacy? do they have a subway station nearby, or a bus stop? or do they use uber or lyft more than public transportation?

     right now, teddy probably wants to define his life in three stages: before, during, and after. there was the before, in which he lived his idyllic life in south carolina, right by the beach and pestering his younger sister. from his childhood, he developed a love of sailing, family, and wanting to please his father. all three things have followed him through his current phase of life. teddy certainly did not grow up wanting for anything– such are the perks of being the prince of gardner hotels– but unlike most spoiled young men, he learned to appreciate what he had.

    teddy went to vanderbilt university in nashville to get his degree in hospitality. really, his father was trying to scout a location for a gardner hotel and wanted to make teddy the manager. it didn’t quite work out that way. see, somewhere along the way, theodore met charlotte. maybe they bonded over their cute, kitschy nicknames (teddy and charlie), maybe they were both ridiculous fans of the nashville predators, maybe they both loved to wander through the peach orchards outside of town, or grab an iced coffee and sit as the hot, dusty air lazed around them, but whatever the reason… teddy fell hard for charlie. she was a spitfire, the smartest person he’d ever met. he could listen to her talk for hours and barely wanted to reply. teddy wanted to peel apart the layers of her mind and memorize every single one. so when he asked her to marry him, there was no question about it. they were perfect.

    at least, that’s what he convinced himself.

    teddy, to this day, doesn’t know why she didn’t show up for the wedding. he has a distinct, extremely vivid memory of kissing her on the forehead as they left the rehearsal dinner. he remembers texting her goodnight, and their agreement to simply exchange gifts the morning of– until they went their separate ways to get ready for the ceremony. none of that happened. he’d been left. to this day, teddy hasn’t really been able to get over it. it’s only been a year, which is fine, but he’s never had the closure he’s needed in order to move past it. that’s what brought him to nyilu.

    well, specifically, his father brought him to new york as regional manager of the east coast division, but teddy has decided it’s high time he start getting himself out in the world again, even if it’s only to make a few friends and not sit at home wallowing in his own misery. he’s hoping something will come out of it, at the very least.

MY TYPICAL SATURDAY LOOKS LIKE… If the weather’s nice, I’m typically on the water for most of the day. Sailing is one of my hobbies, and it’s one that I enjoy as frequently as possible. I always call my sister and make sure she’s alright, and then I’ll typically treat myself to take out and a movie.
