The scene where Bob is beating the shit out of the dark version of himself and Yelena risks it all to run across the room to hold him, the others following suit shortly after, is easily one of the most powerful scenes in a marvel movie literally ever like it’s so important

i’ve noticed that whenever i post about the misogyny in Dexter’s writing and storylines (particularly towards the characterisation of Debra) or just a casual post about female character in Dexter on any social media platforms, people seem to not like those posts as much as they do when i solely talk about the male characters of Dexter and their psychology. now this is where i make some comparisons between Dexter’s psychology vs Lila’s psychology.
in the most simplistic way of describing it, Lila is a female version of Dexter and Dexter is a male version of Lila. Dexter seeks out comfort in causing destruction in people’s lives, Lila does the exact same thing but in a less impactful way, it’s confirmed that her first kill was an accident, she hadn’t actually meant to hurt anyone. but the fan base’s response to Lila’s impulsive, manipulative and harmful behaviours are viewed so much with difference to the murderous, manipulative and harmful behaviours of Dexter’s, which are much more intentional and thought out than Lila’s, he means to do it. Lila’s harmful behaviours are in an albeit misguided pursuit of love, Dexter’s behaviours are entirely purposeful and in pursuit of enjoyment. and before anyone says “he needs to kill he needs to kill realistically, he doesn’t, he is able to go for long times without killing as seen in season two when he doesn’t kill for a month because Doakes is tailing him, and even in New Blood or an interview or wherever i saw it, it’s confirmed that he hadn’t killed for ten years before the show starts.
Lila puts Rita, Cody and Astor in danger by getting in by a fault on Dexter’s part and trying to burn the house down — the fandom riots, they hate her and every ‘annoying’ aspect of her personality when she is quite literally putting on the same act as Dexter but is just portraying those violent impulses differently.
Dexter puts Rita, Cody, Astor AND Harrison in danger by playing footsie with a horrific serial killer who is known for killing women and children and also being very disconnected and uncaring of them — the fandom loves it, very sad over Rita’s death but no one in the history of ever even thinks that maybe this could be partially Dexter’s fault, people start hating Astor when she calls this out and is reasonably upset over her mother’s death.
so basically Lila hating Dexter loving Dexter fans are hypocrisy at its finest

Imagine instead of dying, Rita finds out everything at the end of season 4, and decides to divorce Dexter. She and him both independently fall in love with Lumen at the same time, and then Rita eventually accepts Dexter and they all become a throuple.
This also works for Hannah if you like her.

“Ghosts: Fantômes en Héritage” Review
I was able to see the French version of Ghosts, and I have some thoughts. Spoilers under the cut.
First, I’ll talk about what I liked, because I don’t want to be completely negative.
Aesthetics
This show looks beautiful. Chateau Mérudeaux is so pretty and honestly my favorite of the Ghosts houses so far, particularly on the inside. The costumes are mostly really cool looking and the cinematography is pretty much the same style as the UK version. I also really like the theme music.
Episode 6/ Isabelle and Francois
I like the new, unique direction they took in episode six, completely diverging from the British and American shows. The ghosts’ motivations didn’t feel earned to me, but Isabelle and Francois’ parts in the episode really brought something new and interesting to the show. The scene in Isabelle’s room and the scene with Francois after he helped the main ghosts were honestly the most genuine moments in the whole season.
Berthe
I love her so much. She is me.
The Gauls
Especially in episode 6, the Gauls really intrigued me. I liked how the main Gaul helped the ghosts in episode 3, and the potential storylines that could come out of the archeological discovery in the basement.
Now the things I didn’t necessarily like
Please keep in mind that these are my opinions. If you really like the show, more power to you. The things I’m focusing on are mainly things that can be improved in future seasons.
I’m also not from France, nor do I consume any French media, so I could be completely off. Mainly, I’m critiquing it as a part of the Ghosts “extended universe”, so to speak.
Plot/Writing
Pretty much everything from plot to characters is absolutely identical to the British Ghosts. It’s basically a shot for shot, line for line, word for word rehash of the original series, with occasional minor changes. The first two episodes are understandable; I think the first two episodes of every Ghosts series ever made will be the same plot.
Not only is the plot and even the dialogue mostly the same, it’s not even done in a compelling way; it feels flat and shallow, and most of the characters completely lack any real depth. In the British series, and even the American series, the plot is driven by characters who feel real. The French characters are more so strung along for the ride.
While the Chateau is absolutely gorgeous, it doesn’t have the same role as in the British and American shows. In those, the house is a character in itself; Button House is sturdy, proud, and dignified, temperamental as well as comforting. Woodstone Manor is whimsical and hopeful, classically elegant, and grand with a flare for the dramatic. Chateau Mérudeaux isn’t its own character, but the backdrop for a stageplay. It doesn’t seem to tell us much about the ghostly residents within, which is something that the other houses have done.
Characterization
I do like the vibes of Nabil and Alison; they seem interesting. But I felt like their characterization, especially Alison’s was a little inconsistent? Maybe that’s nitpicky, it’s probably a result of trying to jam them into the British show’s exact plotlines.
Most of the characters lacked depth, as mentioned above. They didn’t feel genuine; more like they were reading lines. They also didn’t seem to have a lot of chemistry.
Now let’s rank and discuss the ghosts
I will be ranking them from my least favorite to my favorite, mainly just for organizational purposes.
9- Teyac
I hate this man. Seriously, he’s just annoying. He had no redeeming traits; no charm, no real personality other than pee and poop jokes, no depth, he’s not interesting, he’s not even fun to watch. He’s the only character in this show I actively dislike; everyone else I feel either neutral or positive towards.
8- Roland
Literally just a carbon copy of Julian Fawcett, but lacking any depth. Nothing of substance. Also, I don’t like his costume. It just doesn’t look right. That parts not really that important, I just wanted to mention it.
7- Auguste
Same problem as Roland; he’s so similar to Thomas, he feels flat. The only reason I put him above Roland is because I like his costume; he’s pretty.
6- Daniel
Also an exact copy of his counterpart, Pat, but he actually had slightly more depth than others, though that was largely because he had the death anniversary arc. I actually liked his performance.
5- Georges/Colonel
Georges is above Daniel because his interactions with Francois brought a layer of intrigue and conflict that I really enjoyed. Most of the time, he has the same problem as the rest, a lack of depth, but it’s not as glaring with him.
4- Marie-Catherine/The Countess
I like what they did with her character; she’s obviously a departure from Fanny, but in a different way from Hetty. My only gripe with her is that she was chronically underdeveloped. We didn’t see nearly enough for her. What she said to Alison when she showed her where the ring box was in episode 6 felt unearned because it wasn’t set up as well as it was in the British show. Justice for Marie-Catherine.
3- Francois
A French Ghosts original; I found him intriguing and compelling. They set him and his arc up very well.
2- Isabelle
I initially expected them to just have her be a permanent gimmick like Jemima, but was pleasantly surprised when she became an important character in episode 6. I want to know more about her, and it seems that we will.
1- Berthe
Berthe is a fun, interesting character. I have no notes.
In conclusion
Ghosts France is off to a kinda rocky start, in my opinion. I hesitate to just straight up dismiss it as “bad”, though. It has potential. The biggest issue is that it doesn’t even try to forge its own identity, instead just copying the British show almost word for word.
Again, no shade to anyone. I understand we all have different tastes. Maybe you like exact remakes. I personally prefer it when remakes do something new with the concept.
Thank you for reading my stream of consciousness.

I’ve never read or watched Twilight, but I’d read this reimagining.
has anyone else thought of dexter and doakes with the twilight "i know what you are" scene yet, or is this a purely original experience?
because i wouldn't be surprised if it is, but it's also really funny to me. like the thought of doakes as a bella swan type character, but instead of being swept up by the new school, immediately sussing out that something's not right about dexter. and the biology class scene diverting immensely from the source material ("you give me the fucking creeps, you know that dexter?") with doakes instantly targeting dexter, who, in all his decades of covert vampirism ("people think it's fun pretending you're a monster. me, I spend my life pretending I'm not.") has never been immediately compromised by an ordinary person before ("the only real question I have is why in a building full of cops [people]... is Doakes the only one who gets the creeps from me?").
in my head they aren't even teenagers or anything. this is just fully adult doakes and dexter implanted into twilight, and somehow it's normal.
#i love playing with media that weren't intentionally made to go together despite compatible notions of monstrosity and discovery.#dexter
