... More ruthless? //Melissa frowns at that, and reaches up to comb her fingers through her hair, undoing and redoing her ponytail, reassuring herself with the familiar sensation of the soft strands. She doesn't understand the question; she doesn't want to. She knows what they teach in the school, and she's been exposed plenty to the abuse of power that seemed popular both with the students of the Academy and the soldiers within the force in general. It wasn't something she was a fan of, and that distaste was obvious on her face when she finally settles into her chair again.//
I think it would do you... and your partner some good to concentrate on doing your jobs instead of... //She gestures dismissively, looking annoyed.// You don't get points for brutality. That's not on your job description. Do you really think I got to be where I am today by being unnecessarily cruel?
//Josh pouts a little to himself at her vague scolding, rubbing at his throat for a moment more before he crosses his arms over his chest. He looks more embarrassed than angry, though, his cheeks still flushed as he stares down at the floor.//
Yeah, //he mutters, looking slightly hurt that she’d ever think he’d come unprepared to a training session.// I brought it… //Still pouting, he slings a small bag over his shoulder and onto the ground, kneeling in front of it and finally glancing up at Melissa again as he undoes the zipper.// … //He opens his mouth and then closes it again, shaking his head a little and pursing his lips as he takes out a pair of gloves, a plastic version of the Individual, and an almost flimsy helmet with a darkened visor.//
…Um… Ms. Liddell? //He fidgets for a moment as he tugs on the gloves, averting his gaze from hers again.// I think I need help being more ruthless. That’s what my partner says, anyway. He thinks I go too soft with the rats…

...?
That's good, though! So you're not busy? I hate to think I was interrupting anything over there.
???
Oh, hey, Mel.
Oh, yeah it…. It’s…. Better, now.
Paperwork’s all taken care of and the like. Sorry I didn’t get to see you sooner, but I’ve gotten everything thinned out, so that shouldn’t happen again.

... Hey, Joey? I came by the other day... a couple of times, actually. Lame, I know. I asked Sora about you and everything but you were out every time, and...
I just wanted to see how you were? And if things were okay? I hope you're not too swamped with work over there...
#programprognosis#[[ it's not that she's super worried or anything... since she has no idea what's happened...#she just wants to see him ;-; ]]

Pre-dinner bruncheon... geez, haha. Well, I picked the time so you can go ahead and pick a place for us.
No, four is perfect! I always eat seven meals a day, so that lines up nicely with my pre-dinner bruncheon. Where shall we meet?

Fine, fine! Let me just- ... okay, I can maybe squeeze you in tomorrow around 4? I know that's a little late for lunch, but...
Au contraire, if I work 40 hours a week I’m guaranteed to raise far more serious concerns. But in any case - pick a time, I’m dying over here!

You are so not skipping out on work just to lunch in with me. Vico, that;s irresponsible! You'll make them all suspicious of you and then our whole criminal plot will be shot.
Just say when! My schedule’s wide open. By which I mean it’s not, but I’m very good at being places other than work.

//Melissa raises an eyebrow at his comment.// I punch like a soldier who's gone through her training, //she quips, then gestures impatiently for him to straighten.// Now now, come along. I think that's quite enough of that. Now that we've introduced ourselves, let's get a move on... We don't have all day and someone has wasted a sufficient amount of time setting themselves straight.
//After giving him a sidelong glance, she maneuvers her chair away from him and drives off towards the side. She's still annoyed, but the matter seems more or less resolved, and she wasn't going to be overly cruel when it wasn't necessary to. She promised to teach him a lesson and, damn it, she would.// Have you brought your gear? I believe the form said you opted for virtual field training today, yes?
//Josh is completely unprepared for her attack. He hadn’t expected her to fight him back… The pain is crippling, and he staggers backwards, hands flying up to cover his throat as he struggles to breathe for a moment. He can barely even hear what she’s saying, too distracted by his own agony. But he doesn’t cry. He won’t cry in front of her, and he’s gotten a little better at controlling his automatic reflex to. Instead, he tries his best to listen to her advice, tuning in enough to catch the last part of it. And this time, he takes it seriously.//
Hhh… //Shame floods his chest as he swallows hard, blushing and avoiding her gaze. He doesn’t wanna get hurt again, and he doesn’t want her to ruin him. He must’ve been out of line, and he’s already made enough mistakes as it is…// Sorry, ma’am, //he says quietly, voice faintly raspy. It looks like he doesn’t have any choice but to pretend she’s a girl, even if he doesn’t understand why anyone would want to be.//
…You punch like a guy, //he adds as an afterthought, with the intention of complimenting her. Masculinity is the highest compliment he can give a girl in the military, since men are so superior in his mind.//
