modern horror games are too meta
#random thoughts#horror#not tagging the game because it's indie and i don't wanna clog up the tags but if you know you know#but like. what does the guy knowing he's in a game and referencing it add to the experience of beating the shit out of him#also the twist of the operation being unnecessary? cowardly. unconfident in its presentation#if you're not going full throttle on your criticism of the modern health system (american? but the dude's australian...) then why bother#the guy's aware he's in a game but also is trying to barter money he doesn't have? hmmm doesn't line up to me#like why would he try and offer you all the money in the till to leave if he knows you can't leave? how aware of the game is he?#like he's obviously not aware of the tools because he's shocked when you bring out each one#i feel like the game would be more horrifying if he wasn't aware he was in a game. makes him fearing for his life more real#also give us an option to dip out when he begs us to!!! give us an alternate ending where we don't save up enough money#that'd make other endings where we don't dip and stay because we NEED the money all the more strong#the art's pretty‚ dialogue's good‚ LOVE the voice actor oh my god#feels like we got a little too intense with the physical torture a little too quickly. should have started with bludgeoning#and then gotten stabby#mainly because after a certain point he should not have been NEARLY as coherent as he was with those injuries#it makes him returning to his whole 'you're an asshole.gov' schtick kind of ridiculous#'you're hurting me because you hate me and want to feel powerful' nah man i just think you're pretty#god his shirt opening. i see you creator#maybe it should have been more of an escalation of feather-type stimuli before getting to the needle? like ice or something#or like after you get a knife you get salt to rub in his wounds#also the gun being hidden is like. we both know what the final weapon was gonna be don't kid yourself#also me torturing him 'i hope he has a wife' him literally five seconds later 'i have a wife and a kid' lmaooo

white ppl will steal every aesthetic from black culture and then call it something so stupid like bo derek braids instead of box braids or hasbin hotel core instead of black southern dandism. yall will bend over backwards to call my culture barbaric/scary just to drool over the aesthetic the moment no actual black people are involved (21 pilots vs actual reggae). i think the main character's character arc would be about learning to accept change and the possibility of failure (and learning to recognize that not doing anything isn't morally better than doing something wrong. trolley problem)
one of my favorite concepts is someone who has a genie constantly following them around because they found the magic lamp but they refuse to use the three wishes because they're like someone who read the ones who walk away from omelas and their takeaway was "the needs of the few outweigh the needs of the many and forced labor is immoral always forever" so they never use the three wishes despite the good it could bring because it would be the result of forced labor. i imagine the genie hates them

i imagine the main plot would be episodic with each episode or issue being about a problem the mc has to deal with that seems impossible all the while the genie is like "wow this problem seems impossible... if only you had..... some magic......... on your side......" and the mc gets real tempted but they always get through
most of the problems would have a common cause (a toxic friend or family relationship, a personality trait which commonly causes issues, etc.) but the mc always uses temporary, band-aid solutions instead of striving for permanent change

The reason why I get so worked up over the whole "not all doms are service doms" thing is that the common assumption that all doms are service doms leads to some dire miscommunication around scenes. I always tell subs I'm about to play with that I am not a service dom because it means that they will, often for the first time in their lives, ask me what my desires, needs, and fantasies are as a dom, rather than assume that my fantasy is whatever makes them happy. Doms are not pez dispensers of whatever it is a sub finds sexiest. Even service doms aren't; they have boundaries, too.
