Ellis happily melts into the kiss, and for a brief the rest of the world just melted away. All that mattered to him was Atalante and that moment, and if he was perfectly honest he never wanted it to end. Though as it always does, it eventually did. Ellis let himself be pulled along, happy to go wherever Atalante wanted to take him. 

When he was brought before a painting he gave it his full attention. If he was perfectly honest, he didn’t know anything about art. Though he did own a few pieces, they were bought on the pretense of he thought they were pretty. the portrait that Atalante had done was down right gorgeous in his eyes, and he could see why the other was proud of it. 

“It’s beautiful, the way you mixed the colors.. and just the detail.. it’s stunning.” he didn’t know art terms, that much was obvious, but he tried his best to explain why he liked about it. 

   ellis’ analysis wasn’t particularly professional, nor was it exactly technical in its nature. but that’s not what atalante wanted anyway. what matters is that ellis has spoken about how he feels, about what catches his eye, and it’s proof that he’s paying attention.

   that’s all atalante really wanted. “really?” he’s grinning and he moves closer to ellis, an arm around him. there’s a moment when he stares at him fondly, gaze bright and happy and eager. and then it snaps in him and he’s got to lean in and press a kiss to his husband’s cheek, unable to pull away completely. instead, he rests their foreheads together with a content smile.

   “i’m so glad you like it.” there’s a hand rested on ellis’ chest lightly. “leonardo deserves a lot of the credit, but...” his smile turns bashful, focus dropping down between them. “i’m still proud.”

“Of course I did!” He couldn’t help the bight smile that spread across his face at just the sight of Atalante. He thought about mentioning that he wouldn’t pass up any chance to spend time with him, but felt that it would be just a bit much. He often had to remind himself that the way he felt wasn’t a two way street. “I wouldn’t miss it for the world.” 

   atalante rests a hand on ellis’ chest, the other cupping his cheek as he steals a happy kiss that ends with a smooch sound that’s so cliche that he almost rolls his eyes. “good. —c’mon, i wanna show you something.” and there’s definitely heads turning to see the artist lead this man away when so many had been trying to catch atalante’s attention. “i’m really proud of this one.” 

   it was a portrait of a young woman with dark curls in a frenzy, passion in her gaze, and wearing a leather jacket like armor. she’s bathed in a sunset. “i met her at a protest. had t’paint her.”

   “ellis!!” atalante is quick to temper himself, to swallow back his excitement because damn it, he does not like this guy that much... or so he’s telling himself. “you came.” it’s leonardo’s exhibit, technically speaking, but a few of these works are his and he’s PROUD of them.

I’m proud I’m still doing it. I’m proud that I’m still feeling challenged, that I’m still working on things that scare me a bit or inspire me, and that I still get to do what I love. As a woman in her 30s, I know I’m supposed to feel like I’m about to have a nail put in my coffin or something. But I don’t. Actors I’ve always admired have acted until pretty much the end. I work a lot more now than I used to when I was really young. I was scared throughout almost my entire career that I wouldn’t have one, and then 20 years later, I’ve done over 50 films, so I’ve stopped worrying about that.
