one thing I like about Tumblr is, in 2019 I reblogged a piece of art from 2017 of a book written in 2015 and Yesterday in 2022 someone liked it, and this is how this website is supposed to work, I have art made this week in my queue next to stuff from 2014, 2013, 2012, hell even 2011, sometimes I post 10-11 year old fan art from accounts that haven't been active since before One Direction broke up. Nothing is ever truly dead and gone on here, you can always dust off an old treasure and say "hey gang look at this!" other social media isn't set up like that, if you wonder why it feels like The Batman was released 100 years ago, its because corporate media wants you to move on! go to the NEW THING! BUY! etc but hey guess what I have fan art of Battinson being emo in my queue. So if you're a fan artist, writer, gif maker, or just fan who wants to gush, guess what, here, here we're still spreading around old art, gif sets and someone will be happy you made something new in the tag

The Two Princes Podcast Fanzine - The Phoenix Issue 4: Halloween!

Rule 1: We accept fanfiction, fan poetry, fanart, Cosplay, fan comics and videos of all skill levels!

Fanfiction should be under 2000 words and self contained

Fan Poetry should be no longer than 500 words per work

Fanart, Comics, and Cosplay images should be at least 300 DPI to ensure quality. Comics may be up to 2 pages

Video submissions should be 3 minutes or less. Submit a link to an unlisted YouTube video.

This zine is in portrait A5 format. Any landscape images will be adjusted to fit on a page or may be used in a two page spread.

Rule 2: Deadline for all submission entries is August 15, 2022. You may enter more than one work, but we may not use more than one submission per person.

Rule 3: This fanzine is free. You retain all rights to any work you submit. We ask that you sign your work but do not watermark it if possible. By submitting, you agree to not publish your chosen submission on any website until AFTER the zine is published OR if your work is used as promotion for the zine. When the zine is published post your work anywhere you like. Please consider linking to the zine in any relevant posts to spread it around.

Rule 4: Submissions must be appropriate for all ages. We reserve the right to not use your work for any reason. This includes but is not limited to works depicting excessive gore, blood, violence, sex, profanity, etc. Given the Halloween theme, some leeway may be given but those works will be turned on the page or in the table of contents as appropriate.

Rule 5: Please use your own original, new work. Official art (even edited) or plagiarised fan works will not be accepted. Previously released/published works are also not accepted. 

Rule 6: Works must incorporate the theme: Halloween! Please keep all works PG-13 at most. If you are in doubt, contact us! Works that don’t incorporate the theme will not be selected.

I think one of the worst things this site has normalized is the idea that sorting out disagreements privately in DMs is bad or creepy.

Your favorite fic author is probably over 30.

(Yes, this is a response to a post going around how maybe it’s okay if adults are in fandom as long as they understand that fandom is for ickle kiddie-boos and walk on eggshells.  Um, no.  Back in my day, we kicked y’all off our yahoogroups so we could post adult material, and rigorously didn’t post adult material if the list allowed you.)

So, back in the day, several of the authors of an LJ community that posted NSFW fic met up and had a group photo, which they posted.  Apparently, some of the 18 year olds said, “Ewwwwwww!  They’re all, like, oooooollllld!” 

There’s actually a good reason for that. 

Writing is part being good with words and part being good at turning your life experiences into something that other people want to read.  Remember my previous rant about how you can’t assume a mystery writer is a homicidal maniac, and you can’t assume that a reader who likes a character has the same personal flaws as that character?  There’s a reason people assume these things about authors. 

See, if you’ve never fallen in love, you might think romance is when the other person brings you a dozen roses and a box of chocolates.  And that’s fine!  That’s romantic, too!  But if you have fallen in love, you might remember the time that you woke up and went to go to class and found a bunch of wildflowers and a plastic ring from a bubblegum machine tucked under your windshield wiper.  And you might remember the half touched, half about to burst out laughing expression on your sweetie’s face when you showed up to class wearing that tacky plastic ring.  You might think that love is thinking the other person is the best-looking person in the world, or that love is wanting to spend your life with someone else.  That’s love, too! Well, at least the second one is (the first is probably just infatuation). But if you’ve been in love before you’ll know that love is also hurting all over because your sweetie’s abusive parent died and they’re unexpectedly destroyed over it.  The latter is worth a million flowery declarations. 

Now, I’m not saying that no one under 30 can write.  Some young people have had very full lives.  And some young people have a natural talent for extrapolating from their own feelings.  Virgins can write convincingly about sex, even.  But the more life experience you have, the easier it is to extrapolate, and the easier it is to come up with the specific details that make things feel real and true.  

If you want to become a better writer, the best things you can do are write a lot, share what you write, and live a full life.  And remember, before you say adults should be banished from fandom:  your favorite author is probably over 30.

An eternity later, the tune to All Hail Barrabas (by me a Capella)

If I were to write songs for The Two Princes Season One (and spoilers, I get enough time and energy together and I’m totally writing songs) what would those songs be?

“I Wouldn’t Be” sung by Rupert, encapsulating the loss of his father, what it would be like if he was around, how he feels about all the things his mother makes him do and how he’s lonely.

I’d keep Flora’s little musical bits.

“It’s No Good” sung by Amir in the cave-in. Our boy has been lost in the forest for a month and now he’s stuck under a rock. Rupert interrupts the pity party by moving the rock and saving him. Amir later reprises a line or two as he tries to revive Rupert after the quickmud.

“All Hail Barabbas” yeah our boys just narrowly escaped a cave in and managed to take a dragon. Now let’s subject them to a villain song about the life and crimes of Barabbas and co.

“I Wouldn’t Be/It’s No Good” a reprise/duet with Rupert and Amir at the waterfall where our boys are trying to convince themselves they’re totally not crushing on the other. They share their I See You’s and Rupert confesses he’s a prince. Amir’s “It’s No Good” takes over as Amir exits.

“We Are Warriors” sung by Joan to hype the Phoenix Crew girls before the battle with the dragon.

“One Kingdom Will Rise” The Bastard Kings duet, covering their shared hatred, the blood spilled by both sides. Gets interrupted when they reference one of them returning to rule.

A short “It’s No Good/I Wouldn’t Be” reprise as the boys resign themselves to fighting.

“I See You” Rupert and Amir duet after the curse breaks.

Good morning! I’m salty.

I think we, as a general community, need to start taking this little moment more seriously.

This, right here? This is asking for consent. It’s a legal necessity, yes, but it is also you, the reader, actively consenting to see adult content; and in doing so, saying that you are of an age to see it, and that you’re emotionally capable of handling it.

You find the content you find behind this warning disgusting, horrifying, upsetting, triggering? You consented. You said you could handle it, and you were able to back out at any time. You take responsibility for yourself when you click through this, and so long as the creator used warnings and tags correctly, you bear full responsibility for its impact on you.

“Children are going to lie about their age” is probably true, but that’s the problem of them and the people who are responsible for them, not the people that they lie to.

If you’re not prepared to see adult content, created by and for adults, don’t fucking click through this. And if you do, for all that’s holy, don’t blame anyone else for it.

Some of you are getting way too comfy telling people to kill themselves or you think they're disgusting just because you don't like them or they like something you dont. Have a chat with your family or friends. Go eat an orange. That's fucked up to say, man. Dont do that. Block them or whatever. Go lay on your floor or something. Self care.

Friendly Reminder

On the topic of fandom

Friendly reminder that you are in charge of your own fandom experience, whether it's on Tumblr or another fansite or social media platform. You are in charge of who you interact with or who you become mutuals with.

Friendly reminder to be safe, your gut feeling is usually right. Does a group of mutuals seem to be getting toxic? Cut them out. Block them. Don't let fandom life impact your mental health like I let it do to mine. Breaks from the internet are okay, remember to take them. Set alarms if you have to.

Friendly reminder that adult content creators are not here to parent or hold hands with minors, who are just as much strangers to us as we are to them, on the internet. Adults deserve to have safe fandom spaces just as much as minors do.

Friendly reminder that shows are just shows and fanfiction is fictional. Actors portray characters, do not send actors hate for things their characters do.

Friendly reminder that there are people who run the blogs you follow and they use their skill to create content for fans to enjoy for free. If you like something enough to double tap, reblog the post too. Especially if it's an original work or writing link.
