Ghibli AI
I was talking with a friend of mine, who is a proponent of AI-generated art, text, and code. For my part, I find most AI generations to be really bad, bordering on offensive - the fact that these programs are getting more advanced makes me all the more resolved to never rely on them for any of my own creative projects.
But the Studio Ghibli/Hayao Miyazaki Ai generations got me down a strange rabbit hole of thought. In the days when these programs become sophisticated enough that they can frame-by-frame recreate entire movies in that style - what movie would be the most distressing to see done in a Studio Ghibli style?
The ones that came off the top of my head were: - The Deer Hunter (1978) - Dances With Wolves (1990) - RRR (2022) - Excalibur (1981) - A Night at the Opera (1935)
Conversely, I was thinking about movies that have a Studio Glibli vibe, like live-action films that have that same energy and artistry that lifts simple images. And of course that took me back to John Ford, who saw his films as paintings. Stagecoach (1939), The Quiet Man (1952), and The Searchers (1956) are all films that fit into Studio Ghibli's sensibilities. Porco Rosso might as well be a John Ford movie lol. Though that leaves out the magical and extraordinary that is often at work in Glibli's films, but real life is the magic - and that's why I bloody hate AI.

Waffles and Cheese Omelettes Trending towards the breakfast but we can make this work. Both foods are very versatile if toppings are allowable, and why wouldn't they be? Load up waffles with Fruit toppings, veggies in those omelettes. I don't know whether it would be cheating to do those variant waffles made from hash browns or not. But like, brownie waffles? There are possibilities there. If toppings are a no-go then I don't even know what's the point of all this. Like who just has a cheese omelette without some salsa or green onions or sour cream or bell peppers? But even if we are being sticklers for the rules we can still mix things up by changing the cheese used to give variety.
You can only eat 2 foods for the next 2 years (with no health repercussions)
Spin this wheel twice to figure out what they are!

I want a series expanding on the relationship between Wolverine and Squirrel Girl mostly because I want "that" issue where Sabertooth comes to kill Squirrel Girl as part of his Logan torture arc. And the fight starts off pretty standard until Doreen gets the full picture of what Victor does to torment James every year and she has that moment where she just stands upright, facing down Sabertooth and says, "I'm going to hurt you in ways that will make you regret having a healing factor."
After that Sabertooth does not show up to the bar on Wolverine's birthday, but Squirrel Girl does and she even has a cute little cake and everything and Logan is just sitting there in shock because he can still smell Victor's blood on her but she's all sunshine and smiles.
That's a comic I would love to read.

Johnny x Velma fanart idea
Next time I get a commission for Johnny Bravo x Velma Dinkley it's going to be a cosplay idea where Johnny Bravo is dressed as Leon Kennedy from REIV and Velma is debating whether to dress as Ashley Graham or Ada Wong - because she likes the cool/confident vibe of Ada - but that burgundy sweater dress might be a bit bold for her to pull off. On the other hand Ashley's yellow sweater outfit is more in her "comfort zone", but it's a bit too predictable and Leon x Ada is the superior ship over Leon x Ashley and she wants to give off the right "vibe" at the convention/party.

Half-remembered from my childhood, my brain still refuses to believe that this exists, and yet it does. But now I'm here trying to visualize what a world would be like where everyone had to ice skate instead of walk. But yeah, ice skating replacing the ballet kind of works.

How I would fix Star Wars
Tumblr media
Part of the problem is the lack of foundation to the Star Wars universe. Too many concepts are just nebulous and improperly defined - this is why we wind up with space witches turning into mist in The Acolyte.
What is missing from Star Wars is simple - War.
I'd start with an early Old Republic series covering the Great Hyperspace War. This is the foundation of the Old Republic, technology, how the Jedi and the Sith first encounter one another.
This is important to establish as well - we need to get to the heart of what The Force is. Now as much as Yoda's explanation in Episode V is a great setup for a mystical/spirtuality - that's The Force - how do the Jedi and Sith see themselves as part of that?
If the Force is an energy field generated by life, do the Jedi and Sith each operate as an extended concept of life? That the Jedi are preservers and guardians of life, where the Sith operate under "survival of the fittest" and promote "competitive evolution" in order to strengthen the life in the galaxy? Putting forward some actual philosophy and differences between the two would go a long way. - This also plays into the people at Disney who are constantly trying to recontextualize morality in such a way that there is no good/evil and that it's all "point of view". Whether Disney should be doing such is another conversation.
After the Hyperspace War, the next series to do would be the Sith War with Exar Kun. Now, this is one of the problems that Disney faces with Star Wars - they don't want to accept the EU - they want to write their own stories. - Now we can speculate why this is the case, whether it be creative control, or rights issues, or nepotism to give work to people related to other people... again, that's another conversation.
Point is, Disney is focusing too much on "High Republic" and "Modern Star Wars" and neither of those have really been a winner for them. The Acolyte has been controversial, Rey Palpatine is not that popular of a character, another Ahsoka series is not a sure thing, even The Mandalorian has sort of run its course as it has lost its narrative focus.
Going back to the foundations gives the chance to really get weird with designs and showcase a galaxy filled with mysteries and dangers. And we wouldn't have to go back to Tatooine until we get to Knights of the Old Republic - which you could theoretically do as a movie trilogy: Backstory, Kotor I, Kotor II.
Anyways. I'm not in charge over at Disney. All I know is that I don't really have interest in what they're currently doing. I'm sure that makes me a "toxic fan" in the eyes of some people - but I think that label is improperly applied in most cases. People who harass others on social media qualify for that appelative - that ain't me.

Cima Garahau is to MSG 0083 what Olivier Mira Armstrong is to FMA: Brotherhood.
Scene stealing, beautiful woman in her prime, fashion icon, living stick of dynamite.
And this remix of the song just fits her to perfection. Gosh I love her.

How I would fix Dr Who (revisited)
While I am sure there are folks that love the Doctor Who show and the direction it has taken under Chibnal, I know there are others who are not satisfied with certain developments. Ever since the end of Matt Smith's run there have been issues with the continuity of the series: - The expansion of The Doctor's regenerations was first explained via a "time lord energy infusion" in Town of Christmas, but was later revealed to be an aspect of the Timeless Child. - The swapping of sex/gender was first done with the Master and later explored with the Doctor. - Letting go of a Time Lord's power was explored in Human Nature and later in Uptopia, but revisited as being a "female presenting" quality later. - The Bi-Generation creating two time lords.
A lot of this new canon has been... not easy to absorb. And I'm not going to say there's any connection to ratings or audience scores, but as someone who is more interested in the science fiction aspect of the show, I think there is enough of the new canon to play with to fit in with the long-running series canon.
Make The Doctor a distinct being separate from The Timeless Child. - This is the main one, and could be done a couple of different ways. My previous theory was to make The Timeless Child the Time Vortex at the heart of the TARDIS (which explains why it is different from other TARDIS). This would explain the leeching of memories and power to other individuals as well. - Another way to do this would be to have The Doctor either be a bi-generation from The Timeless Child, or perhaps be the son of The Timeless Child who inherited some memories. There are options.
Restore the Regeneration Limit and explain how it was bypassed. - The previous explanation is that The Doctor is the first Time Lord and therefore has endless regenerations. This never felt right. The Doctor being a Time Lord whose uniqueness comes from their decisions, the promise to be "The Doctor" rather than their particular history is the key to the character. - You could do another bi-generation backstory into The Doctor's past, and that part of The Doctor has been dormant, sleeping aboard the TARDIS for near a thousand years (my personal choice would be the regeneration from 2nd to 3rd Doctor). - Then you would have to explain that The Doctor who has been adventuring has been part of The Doctor, but a being who got mixed up with The Timeless Child and is therefore confused. Then explain that the reason for the regeneration limit being bypassed is because of the TARDIS - so many Doctors regenerate in the TARDIS and this is shown to have led to many explosions of energy which were not present in earlier regenerations because this version of The Doctor is growing unstable. - Time Lords are not meant to live more than 12 regenerations, because the energy in their bodies becomes more than they can handle, like a dying star they either go supernova or become dwarf stars.
Kill off the current version of The Doctor and bring in "The Original" - This could be a series-long arc involving The Valeyard - with the "current Doctor" being the Valeyard and "The Original" questing to stop them, but would end up with The Doctor dying and creating their grave on Trenzalore that is eventually visited by 11 and Clara. - The "original" Doctor would then continue the adventures, absorbing all the memories of their alternate selves - and resume the regeneration limit from 3 (a new 3, not Pertwee) and then regenerating into 4.
Anyways, that's how I'd rework Doctor Who if it was up to me. But it's not, so whatever.
#Doctor who#tardis#seriously though I stopped watching because I hated how mean 12 was to Danny Pink#Like there was no reason to be that rude to your companions love interest#I just could not jive with Capaldi and could not bring myself to go back to the show#kept up with the lore and the drama and felt satisfied I stayed away#but can we stop race-swapping people please#I mean I guess its fine when you consider alternate realities but that was never Doctor Whos thing#Like time travel is fine and all and they really haven't done enough fun back to the future or quantum leap stuff about fixing timelines#but as part of a larger trend I just think race swapping historical figures is lame#Now fictional characters is fine and dandy#But like if Doctor Who went on an adventure with Sun Wukong I wouldnt want the Monkey King played by a scotsman#So its just weird to see Isaac Newton played by Nathaniel Curtis#And then to have the showrunner attack fans as racists#Like he was the one who changed the race of the person showing he was the one with the problem in the first place#this is my problem with folks who cry racism or sexism or shout at fans for not embracing changes#they're the ones who made the change from the source materials so doesn't that mean they are the ones with the problem#like don't say its the fans fault for not accepting the changes you make blame yourselves for not getting it right#but again that's just the way I see things#not a shipping post#yeah I'm done talking about doctor who#I bloody stopped watching the show 9 years ago why do I even care
