Week Twelve: Vinyl and Putting up the one
We did the final touches of putting on the vinyl and sticking up the one. It was good to see it actually up and working how we planned.

Week Twelve: Poster
With the poster, I helped with a few last details like fixing one of the lines on the mockup and reading over some of the text. I also helped print one of the other group’s posters.

Week Eleven: Mock-Ups
I redid the mockups for the block twelve system being carried through to block one and block two. We made the buildings black and white and added an effect to it to make it more illustrative, and make the numbers and words stand out.

Week Eleven: Good Quality Photos
I took some photos with my camera so that we could use them for the final mockups. The other group had taken some but they were jpgs so I took some raw photos so the quality would be better. These aren’t all of the photos I took but just an example of some of them.

Week Eleven: Changing the Big One
With the amount of time we had left, creating a 2-metre high one would be impractical. We tried two versions of what the one would look like. The first one was two ones that create an arrow shape. The second one sticks out from the wall and folds around. We realised that the second one worked much better and we would mount it to the pillar outside block one. Also, we thought we could start to include it into the interior of block one. So in class, we went over to block one to see what out mini prototype would look like in the space.

Week Eleven: Poster Feedback
As a group, we knew we had a lot to work put in to get this project over the line. For the mockups, it was suggested that we create a more interesting visual style. Some of the ones shown to us by Oli had an illustrative feel to them. Which made the elements of the design stand out more. We thought we could play around with it to make block one look more interesting and make the visual wayfinding stand out.

Week Eleven: Poster/Mockups
For class, we had to create a draft poster. Unfortanelty because we were stressed about sorting the big one the mockups got put to the side. I quickly mock up the poster but I did have to use a lot of old images that weren’t going to be on the final. The group before us had continued with the idea of extending the block 12 wayfinding. We also still needed to create something interesting to go on the doors. I know we have a lot to sort out but we can definitely sort it over the next week.

Week Ten: Class
In class, we worked out that we may need to make the big one out some sort of wood. The problem with this is that we would have to use the CNC rather than the laser cutter as it needs to be 2 metres high. Luke and I went to the 3D workshop to talk to Wendy about options. She suggested we make a half scale especially since we wouldn’t be reusing it. Unfortunately, we kinda knew we would have to make a full scale. At this point, the plan was for Sammy to create the one with the CNC but that if that wasn’t possible we would have to replan how it would work.

Week Ten: Sorting signage
On the big one that is being used for the wayfinding, we need to sort how the text on the one was going to work. We prototyped by putting the text that would be on it, on a corner post showing the directions of certain blocks. We realised that we didn’t need museum building and industrial design centre. So we would just have block 10 and block 11 instead.

Week Ten
Jess and I tried to create a cardboard final of the big one sculpture. Unfortunately, the cardboard wasn’t thick enough for what we wanted. This is when we realised we may have to make the final one out of something other than cardboard for it to work.

Week Nine: Third Brief
I joined the Block One group as they needed more people. I also felt as though I could help with visualisations and mockups.
02: Putting block 1 on the map Massey University Wellington’s block 1 redevelopment has seen the creation of a dedicated staff space (Te Whare Pukaka) and the making of a home for Te Rewa O Puanga – the School of Music and Creative Media Production. There is a wayshowing system in development inside to bring together elements from Te Whare Pukaka and also Te Ara Hihiko (Block 12) but there is an underutilised entryway that lacks appropriate signage, and also a means to link the building to the wider campus and give it a distinct identity. How can this be addressed through spatial typography that unifies the visual language inside with the outside, in a way that utilises the affordances of the existing architecture?

Week Eight: Visualisations
During class, we had to create some quick visualisations. I created this one as we had talked with Oli and realised that we could use some of the existing poles around Cuba Street. I also wanted to show that it would be made out of material so I put a textile over it. I also did a little close up of the eyelet and rope but it wasn’t very accurate of how it would actually work.

Spatial Type to do list - Over the break
Get old maps of cuba dupa
Go to Cuba street and work out where the above signage would be a problem due to trees etc
Create toilet icons that go with the feel of the Cuba Dupa typeface
Make some icons of the mouth, tongue etc that is more vector rather than photographic and see if it works
Work out sustainable materials or ways to reuse the signage
Create the little chalkboard kit properly and work out if we want any other options
Prototype the size the signs would be and how they work on Cuba, maybe just on a stick at the moment
Work out how you would put up the signs whether poles or attaching to buildings
Do we need other signs for main stages etc?
Do we want to add any other colours or just stick to the yellow and purple?
How are we going to put the type on the signs? Screen printing or some other way depending on what material we use.

Over the break: Size prototype
We decided it would be a good idea to Prototype how big the sign needs to be with the actual typeface. We wanted to actually print it the colour it would be but the printer ran out of colour ink. So we have the small one next to it to show the actual colour. The size was done using the equation from wayshowing/wayfinding book so it is able to be viewed from about 100 metres away.

Over the break: Old Cupa Dupa map
During the break Deshan managed to get hold of the organisers of Cuba Dupa and get the map of what Cuba Dupa would have been like before it changed this year. We made a plan on the map of where the big signs would be for stages and food. The one by Te Aro park would be in between eva beva and dream girls. This is so before people even get onto Cuba they can see signs and so people are less likely to miss the stuff happening down by the Chocolate factory. The one near lower Cuba would just be for food as there is normally lots of food trucks around that area. The sign around the middle of Cuba is to lead people to the stages around that area as there is 3-4 of them. The last one near upper Cuba is to lead everyone to the stage at the end and the stuff around it. At the moment its only the big signs that are planned but we will add the smaller ones if they are needed.
