One bite from a werewolf sent the Longdale family in a completely different direction to the one they'd always wanted to take. Social-climbing and always striving for the top, the Longdale's had always done what had been asked of them in order to rise higher in someone else's esteem, but the bite to one family member changed everything. Suddenly, they had a criminal in the family, and most of them looked the other way. Jack grew up with his uncle as a second father: Liam taught him how to read, how to ride a bicycle, how to properly sit on a broom. His own father disapproved of living with a werewolf and instead threw himself into his work at the Ministry, where he faced increasing scrutiny because of Liam’s presence. In fact, most of the Longdales did: raids by the Ministry’s aurors were common, and every month Liam was required to report to the Ministry for questioning. With a werewolf as an uncle, Jack grew up politically switched on and angry at the Ministry - an anger with flows through and affects his grades at Hogwarts, not to mention the rate of detentions he receives.

The son of a poet and an Irish mother, Eoin grew up with a half-brother named Charlie who was the same age as him. His father, compulsively terrible, had cheated on both his and Charlie's mother - and though they'd both left the man himself, the two women found friendship with each other. Eoin was a boy that followed his brother everywhere: no matter the danger or the location, if Charlie was going, Eoin wanted to be there. He was easily manipulated because of his shy, introverted nature - and Charlie tended to protect him from anyone who would take advantage of him. They attended school together, always in the same classes, but it was always Charlie that got the spotlight, not Eoin. Eoin is someone who will lie, manipulate, and flatter his way to the safest corner of the world if he needs to, but not out of maliciousness. He values self-preservation more than anything, and will always go with the turn of the tide. Seeing a lost cause makes Eoin’s stomach turn and every instinct tells him to run the other way - a cautionary tale learned from his mother, perhaps. But Eoin is smart and a welcome addition to whatever side he’s on: quick with facts and figures, Eoin has a good memory and a good ability to blend into any background, observing unseen.

Being a celebrity in the wizarding world has its perks, but being a sport celebrity came with even more. They were more familiar with France, Spain, and Brazil than they were with their home in England. They were well-versed in multiple languages, or at least enough to get by and order food around the world. Eliza grew up playing on the green grass of a quidditch pitch, an honorary member of the team that her father played on as chaser and captain. She was as much the daughter of the other players as she was her own parents’, and she wanted for nothing - her days were spent watching quidditch practices or being taught her letters by her muggle mother. Surrounded by love, excitement, and adventure, Eliza grew up as a girl who always looked for the positive, fun side of every situation. Her mother eventually left them, unable to take the constant moving, leaving Eliza to grow up with her father, who passed on his love of quidditch to her. Eliza grew into a determined girl who pushes herself hard at quidditch, wanting to be just as good as her father. She doesn’t have time for anything that doesn’t involve a broom and the quidditch pitch - politics, school work, and even romance are all distractions from her goal to going professional. Because of this, she’s often seen by the others as something of a stick in the mud, especially during social events - the extent of her conversation is the latest scores on a quidditch match and player statistics. But Eliza’s one-track mind is covering up the one thing that she doesn’t want to think about: her family, and how easily things can fall apart if you don’t pay them enough attention.

Eoin and his mother, Amelia, had lived with them for as long as Charlie could remember - united against the betrayal of Neal, the boys' father, the women became fast friends. Charlie grew to be a charming, talkative boy - he never met a word that he didn’t like. Though he wasn’t much of a writer, he had inherited his father’s ability with words - the way they sounded in his mouth, the way a person could react to just the right adjective. Charlie learned to twist the words to get what he wanted - an extra ten minutes before bed, another treat from the jar. It was never malicious: everything Charlie did seemed to be intent on pressing boundaries to see how much he could get away with. He’s nowhere near being the sleaze his father was - in fact, he makes a point not to be. In everything Charlie does, he’s honest and upfront: transparency is key, even if the truth isn’t pleasant.

Ara was born into a world of luxury - she had no concept of how much hard work her parents had done to be able to afford it. She had all the best clothes and toys and books; she had a nanny and a tutor, and she played with all the best family’s children. By the time Ara was born, her father had risen through the ranks to be a senior auror within the French Ministry - highly respected and known for his kindness, Joonhyun brought honour to the Kim name. But for all his hard work, he was still incredibly naive, and when a scandal broke out, the other Ministers used him as a scapegoat for their own wrongdoing. Shamed and driven from France, the Kim family settled in England, which Ara hated - it had none of the finery that she was used to. Hogwarts was an unwelcome place to Ara, whose dreams of Beauxbatons hadn’t quite died until the moment she stepped inside the Scottish castle. Still clinging to the old life she’d led, Ara was to her peers a spoiled brat that no one wanted to socialise with. With refined tastes, a great deal of pride, and stuck in her ways, Ara was a girl that people avoided, even her housemates in Hufflepuff. Over time, though, she learned to accept criticism and work hard, focusing her efforts on school work - but her parents are always looming over her shoulder, trying to assert some form of control. Finding a husband is their key priority for Ara’s life, and with almost weekly letters giving her eligible bachelors with fortunes to spare, Ara is reminded that her old life is never too far out of reach.

For many pureblood families, romance is a luxury that they can’t afford. The older lines, those forged with tradition and purity, race against the clock to secure an heir (and an alliance) with another family before they’re beaten to the best. Margery was born to a sickly father and a mother who was only after money - and once she realisd she wasn't getting any from the Hurtado's, she left. Margery was raised by her grandparents from there on out. Her father attempted to be involved, but his health prevented him - he couldn’t keep up with the energetic girl, who soon showed no signs of taking after her father, health-wise. Margery is a talented witch in her own right, but it’s not knowledge that she’s searching for. She practices fiercely when it comes to spellcasting and duelling, wanting to be strong - scratch that, wanting to be the best. Margery pours herself into her work and goals, pushing toward a dream of working as a Hit Wizard, or maybe for the Minister himself. She craves control and power, wanting to have the ability to push herself to extremes and feel that rush - to be the opposite of her sickly father, who clings to life despite having almost nothing to live for. Boastful, prideful, and cunning, Margery is a witch who goes after what she wants, and she’ll never let anyone make her feel ashamed for that.

The Ayame's had always struggled with money, and because of it, they leaned heavily on their wealthy pureblood relations, the Yoon family. Kiera was lavished with attention and praise by her grandparents. That was how she grew close with Jisoo, her cousin, who she connected with better than her own brother. Kiera was a girl who was introspective and quiet, rather than loud and attention-seeking like Michael. She liked her own space, but she also had a healthy sense of duty - she could smile and bow and sit nicely for her grandparents when she needed to. Obligation and honour were things that Kiera took very seriously, and put her family’s needs above her own. Kiera is a girl who doesn’t have a strong sense of identity yet. She feels most herself when with the people she trusts and those that don’t demand of her any answers, but she takes comfort in being in situations where she knows what’s expected of her. Kiera molds herself to meet those standards: she can play the pretty pureblood girl for her grandparents, the dutiful student, the friendly face in the Hufflepuff common room. But behind closed doors, when it’s nothing but Kiera and the quiet, she’s lost, swimming in the possibilities that her own self can possess.

The name Vaubadon was popular in some of the darker circles during the Second Wizarding War, where both Death Eaters and Order members alike would visit them and do business. An open secret in the wizarding world, the Vaubadon family were known for their intense interest in the dark arts and, more specifically, spell crafting. During the war they were known for creating a whole slew of new spells that could inflict maximum damage or, in other cases, more subtle harm that landed people in St. Mungo’s with irreversible injuries. Never before had the wizarding world seen such cruel spells, going beyond the Unforgivables - and the Vaubadon’s were open for business. With no allegiance to either side, they maximised profit by straddling the line and being neutral parties. After the war, their business went to the backroom, where they sold in secret while fronting as a weapons shop. Knowledge was something that Georgie craved, and when she went to Hogwarts, she was sorted into Ravenclaw for it. Wanting to learn about spells, especially the darker kind, Georgie let her studies fall by the wayside in favour of researching and starting to put together spells of her own - tricks and gimmicks that made people laugh, but the older she got, they became more serious. She would scribble ideas for spells that would make her grandparents proud - spells to hurt, spells to harm.

Hailing from America where they created a scandal by intermarrying with a half-blood, Alexia came to England only after having started and settled at Ilvermorny. Her father, the aforementioned half-blood, was a taint to the Zhang name that Alexia saw herself as part of - she didn't know about her father, and she didn't want to. But her mother, still in love with the man that she'd been forcibly separated from, brought Alexia along with her to the reunion, and together they settled - a happy family. Except Alexia wasn't happy, and she was even less so when she was made to attend Hogwarts. Awkward, withdrawn, and stand-offish, Alexia didn’t make a good first impression upon starting at Hogwarts: she knew no one except her cousin Nicholas, and even then, she had only met him a handful of times. It wasn’t just the castle and the people that were strangers, but the very land and sky itself - Alexia was a fish out of water when she’d once been a mermaid, and everything just felt off. Throwing herself at the one thing she could always rely on - school work - Alexia aimed to adapt that way, by making friends with books first and people second. As it happens, she still hasn’t adapted that well yet, her presence still awkward and obvious when all she wants is to blend in.
