A displaced Iraqi woman holds her cat, Lulu, while waiting for transport in the Iraqi Kurdish checkpoint village of Shaqouli after she fled her home with her children on November 10, 2016.
It has been bugging me since ShûiLóngYín started filming.
YáoYao's costume reminds me of a Pili Puppet 霹靂布袋戲 character I liked but I couldn't remember her name. It finally came back to me last night, 別見狂華 a female assassin guardian of the demon realm in the serie 霹靂兵燹之刀戟戡魔錄. Took a couple of pictures from my Pili artbooks and Magazines.
I even have some fanarts of her from 2005 in my piles of old sketchbooks. Her character design immediately caught my eyes, as YáoYao's styling on the camera booting ceremony of SLY did.
The urge to rewatch my most beloved Pili series and maybe catch up with those I missed but there's so many seasons already I don't thinks I have the time and spoons to do it.
We didn’t get a S4 announcement, but you know what the absolute best thing about today’s C2E2 Hannibal panel truly was?
For almost the first time since the show ended, Fannibals showed how profitable Hannibal can still be.
C2E2 sold out of their remaining VIP ticket packages with guaranteed panel seating within 48 hours of the reunion announcement. Paid PopVerse subscriptions to stream the panel spiked with previously untapped demos (if socials are anything to go by). The largest event hall at C2E2 was overcapacity 45 minutes before the panel; while that’s normal for cons like SDCC and NYCC, in my experience that’s less common at C2E2.
Not to mention Mads and Hugh making bank with autograph and photo-op sales; a huge component of drawing in good talent to table at cons as well, making sure they make enough over the weekend to justify their presence beyond panel appearances. From a talent booking/event management perspective, this is the absolute dream scenario.
So, here’s the super fun part: ReedPop, the company that owns C2E2, also owns/operates New York Comic Con (NYCC), one of the highest-profile US entertainment conventions after San Diego Comic-Con. Now that ReedPop is aware of the viability of Hannibal programming, it would be extremely surprising if RP didn’t attempt a run at a larger, proper reunion panel at NYCC.
Honestly, great job, team. 2024 could very well be the year we get real buzz going again!
when ghosts appear, xiaohua holds on to xiaobao (erya).
little moments like this reveal a lot about a relationship:
first, xiaobao notices something off about xiaohua, and xiaohua tells him he feels an eerie presence around them. xiaobao teases him for being afraid of ghosts. but, when he realizes that xiaohua is serious about feeling frightened, he backs off right away and backs off completely. he checks out the spot xiaohua was concerned about before leaving.
that’s exactly what being in a relationship you take seriously means. you grow and adjust constantly to what you learn about each other. xiaobao and xiaohua consistently show interest in learning, adjusting, and truly knowing one another. only then can you build a strong and fulfilling bond and become a mature and committed partnership.
xiaobao immediately took xiaohua’s fear of ghosts to heart and puts it into action. he steadily reaches out to xiaohua to pull him behind his erya sword. xiaohua recognizes xiaobao’s efforts and accepts his protection in return.
there is a particular quality of intimacy here because such a fear from adults would often be seen as a non-issue by other people. but, xiaobao takes it seriously. anyone could tease, but he comes back from his initial teasing to protect xiaohua from it. and, he does it in such a comfortable way that gives absolutely no pressure to xiaohua. erya is right there for him to hold should he need it.
the level of comfort and trust between fanghua here is at the point where xiaohua, who was known for always standing alone and going off alone as li xiangyi, holds onto xiaobao (erya) himself to feel safe and secure when he is scared. this level of vulnerability from xiaohua with where he is at in his life speaks volumes about the place xiaobao takes in his heart.
finally, when it comes time to leave the haunted inn, xiaobao and xiaohua wait for each other. they fly together.
