Me and my yoga sister @heatherlilleston are leading this magical retreat in Brazil and we have some spots left. March is the best time to get the f$&@ out of here so just make it happen and you will thank yourself later. What's it like to go on a yoga retreat? Kind of like going on the best vacation ever but instead of coming back feeling like you need another vacation- you actually come back feeling rested and ready for life to happen. Email [email protected] for the scoop and let's live the retreat life together 馃槑馃悹馃寧馃寠馃憴 #yogaretreat #equatorchasers #liveyouryoga #yfbp

There have been many times I've wanted to walk away from this practice. It has forced me to look at myself in ways most people avoid. It has made me examine my imperfections with a magnifying glass. It has made me find compassion for those I disliked even when I didn't want to. It has challenged me to accept my limitations and to break through them simultaneously. It has made me see that I am so much more than I had previously thought. Over and over again. It has also taught me the value of sticking with something even when it seems empty of an outcome. This week is my last week teaching in 2015 and we will be focusing on sticking with something even when we feel like the outcome isn't quite what we wanted. Acting without attachment to the fruits of our action. Tuesday: 9am & 7:30 pm @theyogashanti + 12pm @skytingyoga Thursday: 10am @skytingyoga Friday: 12pm & 4:30pm @theyogashanti #todaysteaching #thankful #yogaeverydamnday #yogini #liveyouryoga #selfdiscipline

"The moment you say, "I have got it," you have lost everything you had. As soon as something comes, you have to go one step further. Then there is evolution. The moment you say, "I am satisfied with that," that means stagnation has come. That is the end of your learning; you have closed the windows of your intellect. So let me do what I cannot do, not what I can do. You have always to do a little bit more than you think you can, in quality and in quantity. This is what leads ultimately to beauty and greatness." -BKS Iyengar Happy Birthday to a man I have never met but a man who has taught me so much. He inspires me to keep learning even when I think "I've got it"... as the evolution and growth never ends. #iyengar #iyengaryoga #bksiyengar

This weeks practice: headstand and shoulderstand in preparation for seated mediation. Why is it that these two postures are know as the king and queen of all asana? Maybe because they teach us how to quiet the mind? Maybe because they illuminate the natural curves of the spine? Maybe they turn our worlds upside down and teach us to look at things from a different perspective. Feeling inspired from a weekend of inversions with @colleensaidman and #rodneyyee @theyogashanti #headstand #shoulderstand #todaysteaching #yogaeverydamnday

"Things are always in transition if we could only realize it. " Pema Ch枚dr枚n It is rumored that approximately 80% of injuries in yoga happen during the transitions between the poses and not in the poses themselves.* This week in class I have been encouraging my students to be present in the spaces between the poses. When we focus on the places between the shapes there is yet another layer of mindfulness that can be added to our asana practice. By cultivating this sort of attention in our practice we realize that we have the power to be more present during the transitions that happen in our lives. Birth, life, death, and rebirth. How often is it that we get to the end of yet another year and look back wondering, "What the hell just happened?" Focus on your transitions. Where is you mind during your morning commute? Where is your attention when surrounded by friends and family? Where is your focus in between the holidays and major life events? Each breath is an opportunity to connect with our ability to stay present. Inhale, pause, exhale, pause. By observing our breath we find that smoothing out these transitions isn't as hard as we thought it was- if we can stay present each step of the way. *yoga fact=may or may not be true #todaysteaching #lifeofayogi #yogaeverywhere #yogaeverydamnday

"There is nothing permanent except change" Heraclitus Global leaders are meeting in Paris to formulate a deal that will limit the worlds greenhouse gas emissions. We can't change the past but we can change our future and make this would a better more livable place for the generations to come. Because of the recent terror attacks in Paris and the prohibition of large group gatherings the climate march cannot take place. So instead @artpartner has decided to hold a #virtualmarch. A way that we can all become activists just by showing our support. Join the march and show your support. I nominate @colleensaidman @jenpastiloff @kkyoga @tbnewyork @hydeyoga and YOU!!! #climatecatwalk #climatechange #activism #bethechange (at Williamsburg NYC)

Gate Gate Paragate Parasamgate Bodhi Swaha~ "ultimate wisdom remains when everything else falls away" During this season of buying, consuming and gift giving, remember- less is more. Here's the thing about travel~ When you take yourself out of your own picture, you see the bigger picture. Your everyday stories lose their significance as you are now part of the bigger story. You see the similarities instead of the differences. You see how how other people live their lives and this opens your eyes to the fact that maybe your way isn't the "only way". I hope this holiday travel season inspires you to see the bigger picture. Safe travels everyone and Happy Thanksgiving!!!! 馃馃帺馃崡

#Repost @catpowerofficial with @repostapp. 銉汇兓銉籦ecause I could not have said it better myself-- these conscious hearts of ours we fall outside the normal lines we watch and listen and communicate we try almost every day the war they bring isn't ours But we are in this on earth the same. the wars bombing everyday in a place to us so far away with children sisters and brothers mothers father's cut down for more than centuries please let the deeper consciousness of enlightenment reach and spread and span deep into the hearts of our leaders, into the hearts of us, so that we can continue to be courageous and open minded to attempt to always never give up & always attempt to ensure and help where we can, enlighten the world around us To keep love and laughter in our hearts Goodwill to those we have never met Goodwill to those who need our help Peace and love to Paris and all the victims and their families xxxx Peace in the Middle East Let our leaders learn to stop these wars. Enlighten these men. Stop this history of war 馃檹 I sound naive I am just a simple human being. The world is so small. The world is so small. Our hearts are ALL, so so big. Touch the leaders hearts. Speak to their hearts and irradicate these wars. Speak to the hearts of these leaders, begin a new enlightenment into their ways of thinking and focus them on a path of light and keep the innocents powerfully safe. That is my prayer to every Lord. 馃檹 Bless the suffering Soften the hearts of the hateful and guide us into a world of Most Benevolent Outcomes. 馃拹 #mostbenevolentoutcomes #mostbenevolentoutcome (at Paris, France)

"This is where renunciation enters the picture鈥攔enunciation of the hope that our experience could be different, renunciation of the hope that we could be better. The Buddhist monastic rules that advise renouncing liquor, renouncing sex, and so on are not pointing out that those things are inherently bad or immoral, but that we use them as babysitters. We use them as a way to escape; we use them to try to get comfort and to distract ourselves. The real thing that we renounce is the tenacious hope that we could be saved from being who we are. Renunciation is a teaching to inspire us to investigate what鈥檚 happening every time we grab something because we can鈥檛 stand to face what鈥檚 coming." Can't get enough of my girl Pema lately.... Recently, I have noticed that social media has been become a "babysitter" for me. I mindlessly scroll to see what others are doing. To make sure I "like" what others are posting so they feel supported. I know exactly what subway stations have reception so that I can hit the refresh button and see how many likes I got on my post. But I can't help but wonder (cue Carrie from SATC voice...) What am I covering up? What am I trying to avoid by filling all of my time up with social media? What would I do with all the minutes hours and days of my life ruled by social media? Whenever you feel addicted to something or that are stuck in a bad habit, it's a beautiful practice to give it up. Well, as of tomorrow : I'm taking a break... giving it up. It may be a week. It may be a month or it may be a year. But I'm taking a break from posting, scrolling and liking. I don't like when I look around and see everyone (including myself) on their phone mindlessly scrolling while crossing the street because there is life to be lived and I don't want to miss it by zoning out on the phone. Can't wait to see what I'm missing!!! If ya want to talk - come to class, email me or call me.
