Suprise - Ona x Lucy
Summary: Titel has double meaning because this is a little suprise for you guys and also the fic is about Ona´s birthday, where Lucy´s planned a suprise!
Warnings: sickening loved up couple.
Wc: 3k
The morning light in the hotel room was bright, the sheer curtains doing a lazy job of keeping it out. Ona was curled up in the big white duvet, her hair a gentle mess on the pillow, one hand tucked under her cheek. She blinked back awake to the sound of the door opening, she had been dozing in and out of sleep since noticing Lucy was gone.
"Per molts anys et desitgem tots," Lucy’s voice came through, a little out of tune and very much smiling, "per molts anys i bons!"
Ona turned her head just as Lucy rounded the corner into the bedroom, carrying a white cardboard pastry box in both hands like it was a birthday cake. The lid was open, and in one of the pastries a little blue candle flickered.
"Que en facis molts més," Lucy kept going, beaming now and daring to sing a bit more enthusiastic as she saw Ona was awake, "que en facis molts més,"
She stopped briefly to wiggle her eyebrows, "que en facis molts més amb salut i encerts!"
"Per molts aaanys!" she finished with a flourish, standing at the foot of the bed like she was about to take a bow.
Ona blinked again, then laughed, a low sleepy giggle slipping out of her as she pushed the covers off her shoulders.
"Wait, wait," she mumbled through the smile as Lucy was about to come to her side of the bed, she grabbed her phone from the nightstand and quickly pointed it at Lucy, capturing the ridiculous proud grin, the pastry box, the candle.
"You’re ridiculous," she said, laughing.
"And you're twenty-six today," Lucy replied, she carefully placing the box on the nightstand before climbing into the bed. She sat beside Ona and leaned in, pressing a warm kiss to her lips. Then she took her hand gently, squeezing it.
"Happy twenty-sixth birthday, love. I'm so incredibly proud of you and everything you do and I already know this year is going to be another great one." Her voice softened. "You're just... you're amazing, Ona. And you deserve everything in the world."
Ona tilted her head, her eyes going a little watery for a second, ‘’aw.’’ She leaned in to kiss Lucy again, longer this time.
When they parted, she laughed softly. "This almost makes up for waking up alone."
"Yeah sorry. I thought I was early enough,’’ Lucy chuckled, ‘’you didn’t wake up so early yesterday!" she poked at Ona’s side.
Ona squirmed and giggled, "maybe I just felt that you weren’t there."
Lucy let out a quiet, guilty hum and leaned in close again, taking Ona’s face in her hands and pressing a dozen little kisses to her cheek, one after the other, until pressing her face against Ona’s, "hmmmm, I’m sorry,’’ she whispered.
"You're forgiven," Ona said, grinning.
They smiled at each other for a second before Lucy reached out and placed the box of pastries between them. There were four of them, all different, but all golden and flaky. There was a little smudge of powdered sugar on the box’s edge. The candle still flickered happily in one. Lucy took the pastry with the candle and held it up.
"These look amazing," Ona said, before sheepishly blowing out the candle.
"Right? I got help from the front desk. They added the candle too. I didn’t even ask for that."
Ona chuckled, ‘’how do you always make everything happen?’’
Lucy shrugged, "a little bit of British charm and a lot of desperate pleading."
They both laughed, digging into the breakfast.
As they ate and tried not to get any crumbs in the bed, an impossible challenge, Lucy leaned back a bit on the pillows and reached behind her.
"I have some presents for you," she said, handing it over. "First one. It's kind of… a little sentimental. Maybe more of an anniversary thing, really. But yeah."
Ona looked at her curiously, she licked her fingers clean and took the present from Lucy to unwrap the paper gently. It was a small, handmade booklet, the cover slightly uneven. She flipped it open.
Inside were short scribbles in Lucy’s handwriting. Notes, doodles, printed screenshots from FaceTime calls, some from when Lucy was in camp, or on away trips, with messy hair or a blurry grin. Some just every day calls. One page had a little drawing of Ona’s nose ("best nose") and another a typed-out joke she’d once made that had made Lucy snort-laugh on call.
"It’s silly maybe," Lucy started, a little sheepish now, ‘’just... I missed you, and it helped. I wrote down the stuff I love about you, some of your weird jokes, you know. Did a little arts and crafts.’’ She reached out and flipped to a particular page, ‘’very elite glue stick work."
Ona looked at the page and laughed at a particularly goofy screenshot, it was Lucy pulling a face, and herself mid-blink. "Lucy," she said fondly, fingers tracing the edge of the picture, ‘’this is so sweet."
Lucy cleared her throat playfully, ‘’anyways,’’ she laughed, ‘’what I want to say with this.. uh.. it’s kind of a bridge to your next present."
She stood up to walk over to her suitcase, and placed it on the foot of the bed, opening it. She dug deep, rummaging underneath shirts and shorts, before pulling out a bigger wrapped box. She turned with a mischievous little smile and held it out.
Ona narrowed her eyes, ‘’you did not."
Lucy just wiggled the box. "Go on. Open it."
Ona took her time unwrapping it, peeling back the paper carefully.. then gasped. "Nooo. Lucy!" She held up the white apple box with a big iPad. "Baby, I told you I was going to get mine fixed. I can’t take this."
"Of course you can," Lucy grinned. She reached back into the suitcase, rustling through socks until she found a smaller wrapped box. "Tada," she said proudly, handing it over.
Ona blinked. "You didn’t."
"Apple Pencil," Lucy declared with a little flourish. "So you can keep playing that silly drawing game with me."
Ona shook her head, still smiling, as she opened it. "I could’ve used the one I already had."
Lucy shrugged, watching her closely, ‘’I just wanted to give you something that would make you really excited. To be real, I struggled a bit. I didn’t really know what to get you."
Ona didn’t say anything right away. She gently set the boxes down on the nightstand and got out of bed, crossing the short space between them. Without a word, she launched herself onto Lucy, wrapping her arms around her neck, clinging tightly. She buried her face into the side of Lucy’s neck, her voice muffled, "you’re insane. But I love you."
Lucy smiled into her shoulder, arms around her waist, swaying them side to side. "Do you like it?"
Ona nodded against her skin.
Lucy brushed a hand down her back. "I have a couple more presents... and a big surprise today." She glanced at her watch. "But we’ve got some time still."
Ona leaned back just enough to see her face, ‘’surprise? Where are we going?"
Lucy lifted her hands, cupping Ona’s face, with a chuckle, "if I told you, it wouldn’t be a surprise anymore, would it?"
Ona pulled a face.
Lucy grinned and gently set her back down on her feet. "Okay. I have three more presents. Do you want all of them now?"
Ona gave her a wide smile, playful and bright. "Three? That’s way too much, bebé!" She gave her a push, ‘’sí, I want them now!"
Lucy laughed and bent down again, rifling through her suitcase.
Ona came to stand beside her, immediately nosing through Lucy’s things. "Now I can finally steal clothes from you properly. Not have to wait until you’ve worn them."
She held up one of Lucy’s tops, ‘’I didn’t like that I wasn’t allowed in your suitcase.’’
Lucy chuckled at Ona going on and on, she pulled out the three wrapped items.
‘’Uhm,’’ Lucy laughed, remembering what the present were, she had bought an anklet.. that was cute, a sweater that Ona wanted and lingerie… uh yeah, that one might have been a little bit selfish. Better to give that one first, topping it off with two other ones that were solely for Ona’s gain.
She handed Ona the present.
Ona ripped the paper quickly and squealed as she held up the light blue lingerie set.
"Oh my god, Luce," she laughed, turning it in her hands. She glanced sideways at her. "This is cute.’’
Lucy raised her hands as if she’d been caught, ‘’ I admit this gift is a little selfish."
Ona snorted, "well, I think it will look cute with my tan."
"Exactly," Lucy pointed, "see, that’s what I thought when I bought it." She chuckled.
Ona held it up in front of her like she was posing with it. "Maybe tonight I’ll try it on," she said, wiggling her eyebrows.
Lucy grinned, "I was hoping you’d say that."
"Anyways," Lucy said, picking up the next one and shaking her head before getting to carried away. "This one’s big, but it’s just something simple... technically the only thing you asked for. So I had to."
Ona gasped before even touching it. "Ohhhhh is it the sweater?"
Lucy shrugged, trying to keep a straight face, "open it and see."
Ona didn’t waste a second. She tore into it, then squealed again, burying her face into the oversized hoodie. The brand logo peeked out on the sleeve.
"Luceeeee," she whined. "You can’t say this is simple. This is crazy expensive."
She hugged the hoodie like it was a stuffed animal. Lucy just watched happily as she saw Ona being happy.
"I love you," she mumbled from inside the sweater.
"I know," Lucy said, "here, one more, baby," she sing-songed, holding out the final tiny box.
.. a bit more then an hour later ..
“The harbor?” Ona’s voice was bright with surprise as she leaned forward, peering out the window. She turned back to Lucy, eyes wide and sparkling as she squeezed her hand in the back of the cab.
“Mhm,” Lucy chuckled, lacing their fingers together. “We’ve got a full day on a boat. We can swim and stuff... and we’ll sail past the other side of the coast. It’s supposed to be really pretty.”
Ona let out a soft, joyful sound, turning back to the window with the kind of excitement that made Lucy’s chest ache a little, in the best way. Ona looked out the window as the harbor came into view, boats bobbing gently along the docks.
“Ohhh I love it so much,” she looked back at Lucy, ‘’how did you come up with this?”
Lucy shrugged lightly, brushing her thumb over Ona’s hand. “You love the sea.”
Ona stared at her for a moment, and then smiled so wide it made her eyes crinkle. It was the kind of look Lucy would bottle up if she could, keep on a shelf and take down whenever she needed to remember exactly why she loved this girl so much.
“I love you,” Ona whispered.
Lucy’s chest swelled as she smiled right back, “I know,” she said softly, and then winked at her.
..
The sun had dipped just slightly in the sky, painting the water in golden glints as the boat gently cruised back toward the harbor. Ona sat with her legs stretched out, her skin glowing and.. she was pretty sure.. burned, despite the nearly ridiculous amount of sunscreen they had both applied all day.
Still, it was worth it.
They had swum near an island and in open sea, eaten a fresh lunch at a beachside shack the captain recommended, sweet melon, salty olives, cold drinks that hit perfectly in the heat. They had laughed with him and he had shown some hidden corners of the coast, talked about his kids, about growing up on this side of Spain.
Now, as they approached the harbor again, Lucy and the captain were deep in conversation, chatting about restaurants.
"Yes that one I think!" Lucy said suddenly, snapping her fingers, "What’s it called again?"
The captain repeated the name. “It’s very good. Not really known under tourists, it’s-”
“Yes!” Lucy laughed, tucking her phone back into her shorts pocket. “I’m taking Ona there tonight.”
The captain grinned and nodded. “You’ll eat very well. That’s a great place.”
Ona smiled, warm from the sun and from the moment. She liked seeing Lucy like this, sun-kissed, her hair a little messy from the wind, she was so relaxed and happy.
“-because today’s her birthday,” Lucy added, placing a gentle hand on Ona’s shoulder. Pulling Ona from her thoughts.
The captain laughed in surprise. “Really? No way!”
Ona gave a bashful little laugh, tucking her chin. “Sí,” she admitted.
‘’Ah congratulations,’’ the captain laughed, “wait,” he slowed the boat down a little, easing the throttle as he leaned into a small side cabin. After a moment of digging around, he came back up holding something over his head like a prize.
A captain’s hat.
“Look,” he said with a grin, fitting it on his own head dramatically, then sweeping it off and handing it to Ona. “Here, try it on.”
He stepped back from the wheel and gestured toward the chair. “Does the birthday girl want to take the wheel for a bit?”
Lucy burst out laughing, already seeing the uncertainty in Ona’s face. This so wasn’t her thing, but the man was so kind and enthusiastic, there was no way out of it.
Lucy nodded encouragingly. “Go on,” she whispered.
Ona gave her a look, but it was affectionate more than anything. She stepped forward carefully and eased herself into the seat, still clutching the hat in her hands. The captain began explaining what the handles were for, where to hold, how to steer just a little.
Ona peeked to the side and caught Lucy pulling out her phone, already grinning behind the screen.
“Don’t you dare,” Ona muttered playfully.
Lucy just smirked. “Say cheeseee.”
Ona rolled her eyes, but after the captain finished his explanation, she placed the hat on her head, and turned to face Lucy properly, accepting her faith.
The captain cheered. “Perfect!”
Lucy snapped the picture, then another. "That’s definitely getting framed," she teased.
Ona couldn’t even pretend to be annoyed, she was smiling so hard her cheeks hurt.
…
They kicked their slippers off immediately when they passed their hotel room door. The soft whoosh of the air conditioning greeted them. Bags and towels got dropped in a pile next to the bed, and Lucy flopped backward onto the mattress with a groan of satisfaction.
Ona chuckled as she watched her, after a second she climbed on top of Lucy, laying her whole weight over her with a soft “oof.”
Lucy’s arms automatically wrapped around her.
“So, dinner tonight,” she said, her voice a little muffled by Ona’s hair, “and tomorrow morning I booked us another slot at the spa. Like yesterday evening. I was going to do another one tonight, but I didn’t know how long the boat would go, and I wanted us to have enough time for dinner without rushing anything.”
Ona hummed contentedly, cheek pressed against Lucy’s shoulder, ‘’you’re the best.”
Lucy laughed softly and rubbed a hand up and down Ona’s back. “I’m glad you’re liking your day.”
‘’Careful,’’ Ona groaned and shifted off her, standing beside the bed. “I think I’m burned.”
She walked to the mirror, “how do you never burn?”
Lucy smirked, propping herself on her elbows. “I was already a bit tan before we got here. And sunscreen. Which you also used, but.. yeah I don’t know.”
Ona pulled off her top and unclasped her bikini. She stepped toward the mirror, twisting to get a good look at her back. “Your tan is fake,” she said skeptically, ‘’how would that help?”
She didn’t hear a reply. Turning back, she caught Lucy very much not looking at her face.
“Ay!” Ona laughed, quickly folding one arm across her chest.
Lucy pouted, eyes finally traveling upward. “Hey. Since when can’t I have a little look?”
She shifted to sit at the edge of the bed and reached out for her.
Ona walked over and slipped her hands into Lucy’s, settling on one of her thighs, smiling with playful accusation.
“Not like I’ve never caught you looking,” Lucy said with a chuckle.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Ona replied innocently, scrunching her nose.
Her hands crept under Lucy’s top, her nails dragging just lightly enough along her stomach to make her twitch, “shall I check if you’re burned too?”
Lucy snorted. “Go ahead,’’ she lifted her arms obligingly.
Ona pulled Lucy’s top up and over her head, grinning. Then peeled her black bikini top off. Lucy caught her by the waist and pulled her in, shifting so she could scoot back against the headboard. Ona let Lucy move the both of them easily, settling on her lap.
Both of them topless now, grinning, skin warmed from the day in the sun.
Ona reached for Lucy’s arms and guided them around her neck, but as they made contact with her shoulders, she winced.
“Ouch,” she laughed, “I’m really burned.”
“Poor thing,” Lucy murmured, adjusting her hands to Ona’s hips instead, fingers light, ‘’I packed after sun, I’ll put it on you before bed.’’
Ona smiled and leaned in, pressing her forehead against Lucy’s for a moment, then reached between them and gently traced the line of Lucy’s tan oh her chest, her fingertips grazing warm skin. Her smile turned cheeky. Then she leaned in and kissed her.
Lucy kissed her back immediately, arms tightening a little, just holding her close.
It started gentle, all lips and smiles between them, but soon tumbled over into something more urgent. Lucy’s hands slid up confidently, her thumbs brushing against Ona’s nipples, making her shift in her lap.
They broke apart for a breath, barely.
“How long until the dinner reservation?” Ona asked, though the look in her eyes made Lucy think she didn’t even care that much at this point.
Lucy bit her lip, grinning, ‘’plenty of time.’’
..
felt good to write something again, even if it was a little short. hope you guys liked it :)

okay so then.. basically.. technically.. what is stopping you from writing a fic about ona appreciating lucy in that bikini….
what’s stopping me is my inability to finish anything in a timely manner 😓
although i do have a teensy outline for little snapshots/vignettes of the weeks leading up to their vacay.. and perhaps that could lead up to a grand finale…… but i would def need encouragement and ideas from you guys if that’s really something you’d want to read 🥴

Reading my own fanfiction is basically just a rollercoaster of emotional whiplash.
20% of the time: “Hold on. I wrote this? This is fire. This is emotionally devastating in the best way. This scene is dripping with tension. I’m a literary perfectionist. Someone give me a book deal.”
80% of the time: “Straight to jail. Immediate prison. Why is everyone’s breath hitching?. I used the word ‘gaze’ three times in one paragraph like I was possessed. Did I think 'his eyes darkened' was profound? Why is everyone clenching their jaws? Why is someone whispering 'their name like a prayer' again?? No one talks like this. What is this dialogue. Why are there so many weird metaphors and em-dashes…”

When u posted this i had an early alarm the next morning but i thought okay ill allow myself 1 chapter... ended up pulling an all nighter.. i loved it soooo much, its so good
since then i read it another time but savoring it more, and i love it even more
You write so good that i dont even dare to give u the compliment that you write so good, who am i as this peasant to comment on the royalty of literature .. but okay let me try anyways;
i love how you manage to keep it so engaging throughout the whole entirety of the 61k(!) of words, like im obsessed with ur wording its so good and hot and ugh, just everything
the smut was so hot, Ona saying 'mami'.. yeah i nearly passed out, didnt know i was into that.. but happy to be proven wrong
the banter between them is always my fav part!! i love a fun dynamic and u nailed that aswell (as always)
and the whole plot overall was also so good, i really like what u did with it
you should be proud of yourself for working on a fic this long, the result really bore fruit
chapter 1 to 10, all 😍😍
first of all i am SO sorry to make you lose sleep, i feel like the fic should come with one of those tiktok popups like "you've been reading too long time for bed!" lol
but truly this makes me so happy :') i'm so glad to get your blessing as the reigning luna fic queen, i deffo hold your thoughts and feedback in the highest regard!!
i also unlocked the ona calling her mami kink myself i def had to restrain myself from using it 100x
banter is also my fav part to write 100% i'm so glad it turned out well! although i do make myself cringe writing british-isms (does anybody remember "britpicking" from back in the 1d days i feel like i need that sometimes😭)
i'm so so glad you enjoyed it and tysm for taking the time to write this, you're the best :'') 🫶🩷🩷

i also cannot believe those things happened in that order and i actually managed to publish it 😌↕️
tysm this means the world coming from my fav writer on here 🫶🫶
nothing safe is worth the drive
“Espera,” her groggy voice muttered. She was almost sure Ona had fallen back to sleep by then, but her eyes blinked open just enough to meet Lucy’s. “Stay.” Lucy’s options seemed equally punishing. She could leave as planned and go sleep alone in her depressing hotel room only to return at some point tomorrow morning despite not knowing what time Ona reported to training, or she could grant the woman’s wish and spend the night despite not having spoken since she told Lucy she loved her a month ago and Lucy said nothing back. or; lucy swears off happy endings after the end of her seven-year relationship. when she starts sleeping with a rival Spanish right-back as a distraction from her downward spiral, feelings arise that could give her a run for her money.
rating: explicit 🔞 word count: 60.8k tags: slow burn, friends with benefits, smut, miscommunication, kinda idiots in love ⚠️ warnings: crying during sex, unhealthy coping mechanisms, poor self image, very light (and very switchy) dom/sub dynamics, mentions of period sex
(formerly known as 30k fic lol)
read on ao3
