Epiphany in Switzerland
In Scotland I don’t think we celebrated Epiphany but as I was eating my Epiphany bread this morning I thought that would be fun to tell you about, because I bet you didn’t know this.
So, in Switzerland we call this day “Holy-Three-Kings-Day” because that’s when the three kings arrived at Jesus crib blabla. In order to celebrate that, we eat a bread wreath with about seven individual buns. It’s like ordinary Christmas bread, a bit sweet with raisins. (As a child I would always pick them out, because I didn’t like them.)
Here’s the hook though, in one of these buns there’s a small figurine of a king. Whoever gets it is the king or queen of the day. And of course small children go absolutely feral for that sh’t. It’s a really tough decision to make which bun you’ll take because of course you can’t tell from the outside. (But a pro-tip, never take the bun in the middle, it’s the biggest to eat of course, but there’s never a king in that one.)
And funny enough I was queen today, even if I was the fourth person to pick a bun. And yes even today I pick a bun where I think the king is inside because really who actually grows up?
I think it’s a fun tradition, even my parents always try to get the figurine. I’m not even sure, but they’ll probably also do it in Germany and Austria as well, because you know with a language in common you share lots of tradtitions too (of course not all, I see you Scotland).
Other countries like Italy and Spain get their Christmas presents only at Epiphany (when Jesus got his presents, too). In Italy it’s a witch that brings them, Befana, and in Spain it’s the three holy kings themselves.
Happy (Merry?) Epiphany however you celebrate it :)

things I would do if I could go back to Edinburgh and there wouldn’t be any restrictions
I’d get two new piercings at the Devil’s Scribe, maybe even a tattoo who knows. They’re at the west end of Princes Street, very affordable, a normal piercing costs ten (10) pound with the jewellry, but I find them professional, they clean, have gloves on.
I’d go and get a milkshake smoothie from hula juice bar because I miss them dearly and ah just thinking about it makes me want to go.I’d probably get the nutty professor one, it’s with peanut butter, lightly salty but still sweet and it was my go-to back in the day where there wasn’t a global pandemic.
I’d go walk around in town and just look at the Georgian builidings and take pictures with my film photocamera. I got a nostalgia walking around in the misty days alone and felt like in my very own dark acadmia film, going in antiquarian, second-hand shops and walking there where my feet would take me. And I want to capture that for the future.
I’d go and write in the central library or do anything in there because I just love the atmosphere there. The big study in the third (? I’m not even sure anymore) floor with the gorgeous ceiling and the universtity students cramming away making me feel like one too. Just a lil girl dreaming of being a scolar lol.
I’d go to one of the clubs my friends at school talked about because now I’m eighteen (18) and can go there without a fake ID. And find out what they were talking about. I’d love to go there with my Scottish friends of course, so we could dress up together, have a wee warming up, dance together and then which sometimes is the best part of a night out: go home together. Either walking together in the dark not acutally knowing if we’re going to make it, taking a bus staring at strangers... the list goes on.
I’d get more out of Edinburgh, I’d give Glasgow another chance, visit Mireia in her university lodging. Visit more of the West Coast of Scotland.
I’d go and discover the Highlands like I would have wanted to. Go hike, live in a wee cottage, smeel the moor and the sea and just experience the raw nature I only saw from the bus windows.
I’d go to the small islands around Scotland. I’d go try to surf in Dunbar. I’d partake in the Looney Dook (acutally I’m going to do that here in Switzerland with my friends, just a lake and not the nordic sea). Go to another Ceilidh.
So many things I would do and hopefully I am able to do once we got over this pandemic. I hope that the cafés and institutions I was able to visit will survive and open to more people

two (2) months home
Wow has it already been two (2) months? I can’t believe it. By the way thank you for one-hundred and eighty-eight (188) followers. Like I don’t even post anymore and you guys are still here? Thank you! I’m planning to release some tips for coming exchange students coming to Edinburgh and share some best ofs and stuff. I mean if there’s even people going on exchange years in Edinburgh in times of Corona.
Well me and my Scottish friends actually got a lot closer than when I was in Scotland, so Corona has something good to it? We have every Wednesday a zoom night, where we do quizzes and just chat and it’s really nice actually.
I switch now in between thinking in Swiss German and English, I often don’t know the Swiss German words, I think I still dream in English? Well atleast today I dreamt I was back in Scotland, so I still dream of it.
I really want to show them Switzerland, maybe invite some of them over, that would be so much fun, but I guess that has to wait for next year and when we both have holidays at the same time.
That’s me, the lockdown in Switzerland is pretty much lifted, it’s chill, in June I’ll go to school. Nice and warm here. Cheerio.

So I've been home for over a month, I really cant figure out what I want to do with this blog. Imma leave it for other exchange students going to Scotland and Edinburgh. Like next year, cuz I think this year no one will go this year. That’s really sad to be honest.
Ok so what did I do this month? I tried to catch up with my class mates in Switzerland, completely abandoned the school in Scotland. Well yesterday I messaged all my teachers to … I dunno. I said I hope my grade won’t get affected bc I haven’t handed in any more work. And then I wrote another long’ss email to some admin, asking them to send my grades to me in Switzerland. The cheek of me I know.
I have been keeping in touch with my mates you know, I send memes to Giulia, I have video conferences with Mireia and the gang.
Lockdown in Switzerland is pretty chill, it was pretty warm and sunny until now, we’re actually allowed outside for whatever we want, we shouldn’t but you know on the country side nobody really gives a shite.
Now it’s raining and I still had to go out of the house to do some LandArt because of my art teacher. My little brother came with me and he got scared the sh’t out of him because of a worm.
Yay what an insightful update to my life.
See ya in maybe a month. Btw I’m going back to school supposedly on the eighth of June. For like a month before summer holidays. Strange times.

Ok wow my blog blew up again, but I haven't posted in like two (2) weeks, lol.
Yeah ok I'm home for over three (3) weeks, we don't hear many things about Scotland, just about UK in general. You are in lockdown and Boris Johnson was in intensive care. Ok but I had contact with my mates in Scotland. The other two (2) exchange students, Giulia and Vivane are also now at home, they stayed a bit longer than me.
I have seen my friends twice, actually each of them once but not all at once. I miss them, I want to go out and party, it's such nice weather here in Switzerland, it's like summer. But we're all stuck in the house. This sucks.

So what now? I am home. I want to keep writing the blog, just what about? Not everday anymore, lol my life is not that interesting here. But I will keep you updated, tell you about my home (scotland) sickness and stuff that exchange students do, lol. Just btw the situation in UK might become even worse than the one (1) (yes I won’t stop that ever) in Italy, maybe afterall it was better that I came home.

day two hundred and twenty-three (223)
I woke up early, of course I did. I had to weigh my luggage again, just to be sure they were both under twenty-three (23) kilos. I just had to. Who knows maybe the scale was wrong yesterday? Not that I weighed them like ten (10) times yesterday.
Ok then I had breakfast, even though I have never breakfast, but I needed something to do. Winston was going to the muck up day, nobody was really going to classes, they just said goodbye to the teachers and then went to the park to throw paint and write on each others shirts. I didn’t want to come in bc I already said goodbye and couldn’t do it again. Also couldn’t be bothered to wear the school uniform and then change again.
I went one (1) last time to the city, where I cancelled my bus pass (really five (5) months of not using it, I want my money back) I just hope it reaches me here in Switzerland. It wasn’t even nine (9) when I got that done. I know I wanted to be back in the house at eleven (11) bc we had to leave at twelve (12) but I knew, at home I would just freak out so I forced myself to stay in the city a bit longer. I marched up Calton Hill, the sun was shining, I wasn’t in the mood for anything, so I just sat on a bench and let the sun warm my face.
My butt began to freeze after like half an hour (1/2) so I had to leave. I got croissants in Sainsburys just because they are delicious. I ate one (1) straight away, which might not have been the most hygenic, bc I forgot my hand sanitizer at home. Oh well.
The second was for the airport.
I went home and of course I started freaking out. Pauline was at her horses, that I have never ridden once and I was worried that she might be late. Which she wasn’t, naturally but I was so nervous and stressed, oh well. I said that a lot.
Finally, we got off to the airport, it was very empty. I met up with the other Swiss that was also flying home. She was supposed to go on Sunday, but her flight got cancelled but she was able to come onto mine. Funnily enough it was the same girl that I arrived with here.
I had to nearly strip for going through the security. Jackets off, boots off, belt off. Girl I was wearing mens jeans, I had to hold them up while walking through the beeper. Not very graceful. Well I got my salad through and that was all.
Sophie and I had lunch, I had my second croissant and like every ten (10) minutes an annoyed woman was calling out passengers to come to the gate. I could never do that, I’m always early at the gate. What a nightmare coming late to the gate. It was kinda fun to see them running past though.
We took off early, arrived on time. And I was home.
It felt like I was never gone. Nothing has changed. I wasn’t even sad then. Just not realising.
We got a takeaway bc apparently that belongs to the primary care, it was still open.
My shortbread was crumbly. But it survived.
I didn’t pack my things out at night. I think did it the day after? Or maybe even Sunday. I packed out now (Monday). Also took out a lot of stuff out of my closet.
This was it, my exchange is over.

day two hundred and twenty-two (222)
Sorry guys, things have been going really quickly these last few days and I honestly didn’t feel like sharing all this stress with you.
I got a call on Thursday morning right after I woke up from my mum telling me that I would have to take the plane on Friday. Like the next day, Friday. That was a f’cking shock. I had to cry for a bit. Then I had to tell Pauline. It was all going so darn fast.
I was so upset I wasn’t even sure if I should go to school because I had to pack and prepare but then that would be my last day at school and I had to say goodbye to my friends and let them know. Also, they had to sign into my book so at least I had a little souvenir of them.
I went in, got pretty much everyone to sign it, even my regi teacher and guidance teacher, even if I didn’t have that much of a bond with them. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get Mrs. Clarke or Michaels and Eilidh’s signature because they all weren’t in school.
Mireia was so sweet, I had texted her before school that I was going to leave, so she got me chocolates and a card as a farewell present. Everyone was sorry to see me leave early (or else they didn’t tell me, lol). Noor also was so sweet, she occupied a whole page in my book, even drawed sweet sketches of us. I got rid of stuff I wouldn’t take home, like the bathrobe that Carla passed to Claudia and me. I gave it to Giulia, it always goes to the next exchange student lol.
Giulia by the way was upset that I would leave bc now she would be alone. She didn’t want to leave. (Now with the situation in the UK worsened, she will probably have to go home)
At two (2) o’clock there was this announcement of a minister talking about vulnerable children and so on for like ten (10) minutes while literally everyone wanted to know if the exams were on or not. Finally he came to the point, of course he had to make it dramatic, saying that the exams have never been cancelled before blablabla. And then he said, they were cancelled. Most of the boys in the room were ecstatic, no exams, school closes on Friday, a dream come true right? Well, then they realised that the SQA are going to look at the course work and so on and they haven’t done a thing. Not good chances for As now, huh?
I was also relieved, because now we finally knew what was going to happen with the grades and I would get them as everyone else. And I don’t have to do them at home and still study.
After learning English I learnt how to pronounce the “th” sound properly in that English double, sitting next to Holly bc why not. You kinda have to bite on your tongue and let it slide. At least one (1) accomplishment.
After school, I went into Tesco to get last-minute souvenirs, shortbread and Irn Bru, Mireia and Vivane accompagnied accompagned  chummed (still can’t write it) me and I got to say goodbye. I even walked all the way home with Vivane. She is probably also going to leave soon, but she plans to go in two (2) weeks. I hope she makes it home safely.
As soon as I got home, I started packing until dinner. Honestly, packing for going home is the worst, bc you don’t want to leave anything. But you have to. Even if you have two (2) luggages with allowed twenty-three (23) kilograms.
My last meal was baked potato and salad and ice cream. Winston’s was the same like his first one (1); baked potato with mac n’ cheese. I can’t remember what my first meal was, can’t be bothered to look it up.
I kept packing until seven (7) when my back hurt and I distributed the weight evenly between the two (2) suitcases (which btw one (1) wasn’t even mine, but it also wasn’t Pauline’s so I just took the free suitcase, would have needed one (1) anyway). I was so done with packing and went through to the living room to watch one (1) last time Pauline’s soaps.
I couldn’t sleep from Wednesday to Thursday because I knew I had to leave but I slept fine this night bc now it was all over and I said my goodbyes.

Day two hundred and twenty-one (221)
Soooo we found out that the schools are supposed to close on Friday. Who's surprised?
Yeah, that was in Maths, period six (6) and Giulia literally screamed when Miss Liggett announced it. Lmao, half the class turned to her. Nobody did work after that of course.
Another banger Mrs Clarke wasn't in for the double French afterwards so of of course the class was a mess. I literally couldn't do anything bc I finished the work already yesterday and there was nothing new.
Nicolas Sturgeon said that there'll be special measures for students with exams coming up, but nobody has a clue what that's going to mean. Will we have online classes, will we still go to school and just S-one (1) to S-three (3) will stay at home? Who knows.
But you know I bought this sweater at the kilosale for one (1) week of school and now it's  going to close. Wow.
I mean I like it, I'm going to keep it, but it's not really going to serve its intended purpose.
Ok I wrote this when I was still in school and I actually came home feeling somehow still good, bc I thought the seniors will still go to school and yeah, school's down but I'll be able to stay. But then Pauline said all those things about lockdown pretty much every exchange student going home, how it'd be better for me to go home. And then I got upset, bc it seemed inevitable that I have to go home. Literally I got three (3) more months left. I got prom, my exams, places I still wanted to go.
I cried while talking to my parents, they're now looking for a flight. This sucks. This is a nightmare. I wanted to stay a year abd not just bloody seven (7) months. What the hell, that's a bit over half a year.
Now I have to say goodbye to everyone, get my affairs sorted, it's going all so quick. I don't know when they'll have a flight for me, honestly I hope it's not that soon. I got so much sh't to pack. When I was packing for coming here, I already started two (2) weeks earlier.
A nightmare.

Day two hundred and twenty (220)
Ayoo, Eilidh has to stay at home for two (2) weeks bc her mum got a temperature. They won't test her for the virus though, for whatever reason, so she might only have a cold abd Eilidh is missing out from school for nothing.
Also today felt like no one (1) was in. Like at lit of people stayed at home.
I basically didn't have class all morning, bc Mrs Clarke still had her French speaking. So I did Maths, naturally. I still suck. Really need to look over my notes.
Yeah so at lunch there was only Mireia, Lucy and me.
Really all we can talk about is the virus and if they are going to shut the schools, cancel prom blablabla, always the same.
In English our teacher surprised us with a little mock exam, bc yesterday people weren't working, as usual.
Mh I wonder if the school can box themselves through until Easter break. Even Mr. MacAlpine doubts it, but you know what? What does he know? Not like there has been a comparable situation before.
The situation hasn't changed much, I still refuse to go, they are not forcing me.
Apparently they've found a vaccine in Geneva, I couldn't say if it's true, I just heard it from Adam and cannae be bothered to check it. Don't think so or else it would be all over the news surely.
Another day of school, yay.

day two hundred and nineteen (219)
Well, let’s say that today wasn’t the best of my days here. It all started when I forgot the answers of my French speaking at home, while my exam was this afternoon. So, I had no choice to even look over some of my answers in the period before, when I had time.
Of course, I didn’t study them yesterday. I went to bed early, without taking one (1) look at them. Slept like a baby, though.
I was nervous for the exam, stuttered sometimes and made loads of silly mistakes. But Mrs. Clarke said I had some good language and that I’m definitely somewhere in the higher mark zone. That’s reassuring.
I went to the library to Mireia, Anna and Freya and helped Anna with her German speaking. That was fun, especially once I asked the question in German and she replied, I would then reply in English. Mireia said that shows, that I’m really fluent in English now. Cool, after seven (7) months, I’ve achieved fluency. I got a headache after that, speaking three (3) languages at once was too much.
Blablabla, Biology, we are rushing to get the course done, just in case they shut the schools blablabla.
Once dinner was over, I got a nice little email from my organization that the Swiss Confederacy is calling back its citizen from abroad.  That is me. Just now, it is only a recommendation and they also said, that it’s probably best if the students stay where they are just now.
Still that was shocking, that the government might force us to go home. I can only repeat; I don’t want to go. I will stick around Prom and if I have to fight with my hands and feet, I am determined. Literally three (3) more months, I will stay. Maybe then it’s already over? I highly doubt it, but unlike my school mates, I don’t want the schools to shut. No actually I want to take the exams. I studied for them; I want to know how much I’ve learnt.
Yeah and that was only the beginning of the week. I’ve already said it, everyone is talking about closing the bloody schools and it’s driving me mad. Can we please talk about something else?
How about that Mr. Hamilton, the headteacher, randomly told me at lunch to take off my denim jacket, while everyone around me also had their jackets on? That was so uncalled for? (Also, very bold move of me to wear the denim jacket today, but I thought screw it, it’s March, spring is coming, I’ll wear the damn denim jacket.)
They’ll have to drag me back to Switzerland, if they want me back.

day two hundred and eighteen (218)
Vintage Kilo sale again, this time I got the super-early-bird ticket with Viviane. I woke up at half past seven (7.30), again. It’s horrible. I can’t sleep in, that’s tragic,
So, I was early at Vivianes house, we were early at the venue, but there was already a huge queue, after us also came loads of people. People that you would expect there and also two (2) elderly ladies behind us, who chatted to us. I found a jumper for school (even though I have less than three (3) months of school left) and a levis t-shirt (I know that’s so two thousand and eighteen (2018) but hey I don’t care) all that for seven (7) quid. That’s pretty good.
We were finished at about eleven (11) o’clock and Viviane went back home to study for her Chemistry assignment and I went to chill in Starbucks on Princes Street, because it was cold.
On the way there I bought a second-hand book, Vanity Fair for two fifty (2.5), which I read in the café and then when I had enough of Becky and Amelia I wrote some of my own drama queens.
Ah, that was a nice afternoon, the armchair that I was occupying was nice and comfortable, right next to the big window, so when the sun came through the grey clouds, I got some warming sun shine on my left side.
I went home a bit earlier, because I was up so early, so I was home at like three (3) but I still haven’t studied any thing for either French or Maths. Did I mention that in two (2) weeks we got a second prelim for Maths and also for Biology? Fun times.
Well, I skyped with my mum, I skyped with my friends at home, they all have to stay home (ok not all, two (2) of them have to work, but they haven’t got school). That was fun. Loads of memes and stickers. Also just kicking people out of the call is still fun, like we’re in third grade.
Wish me luck on my speaking tomorrow. I’m out lol.

day two hundred and seventeen (217)
Today I went out to have Mexican with Giulia and we had a blast. It was my first time in Barburrito, that was pretty nice. Giulia had her nachos and I had a burrito and we were the only ones (1s) sitting in the back, lol.
After that we walked to Grassmarket to Mary’s Milkbar, where a queue nearly stretched out of the café. We still got icecream. And by god, that was soooooo god, especially the hot cross bun thing I had, wow. I treated myself and got the biggest size, I mean I don’t go out eat so much anymore and I didn’t regret it, that is really the best ice cream in Edinburgh. The other two (2) flavours were something with chocolate and walnut with cinnamon, which were good, but the bun flavour was god tier.
So, I was licking my ice cream in March and we walked down to Princes Street, a woman stopped us at the Waverly Bridge to ask for Greyfriars and I gave her the wrong directions, I hope she got there anyway. We went into the Waverly Mall, because why not and we had lots of fun in the Flying Tiger. The sunglasses were too tempting.
Giulia dragged me into Waverly station because she wanted to fill up her water bottle, but the water refill station was closed. She went then on the toilet and I noticed that there are showers at the train station, what’s up with that? Who gets off a train and thinks, oh you know what, I could do with a shower for five (5) quid.
I showed her Wittard, the tea shop on Princes Street where you can drink as many free samples of tea, hot chocolate and now new instant tea, as you want. Ah, I love this shop. She even bought a tea, the sales girl was so nice, she even brewed the tea, Giulia wanted just for us to try.
We went into Boots to look at skincare, because we are both obsessed with it, I also tried loads of perfumes and Giulia went to search for her discontinued concealer.
We nearly walked down all of Princes Street, even went into Debenhans just for funsies and collapsed into the Starbucks. We were so tired, I think it was not even four (4) when we settled there, but we stayed there until five (5) because my bus stop was right across of the Starbucks and Giulia was going out in the evening with some other Italians.
Ah, it was nice to have company over the weekend again. I’m really not used to it any more, I think Giulia also had fun.
Don’t think I just enjoyed myself today, I practiced loads of French speaking this morning because I woke up at like half past seven (7.30) (!!!). That’s because the mornings are now getting lighter and the sun wakes me up. The bloody blinds don’t shut the light out properly. I probably have to start wearing the sleep masks again, if I want to have a lie in, because I’m not going to bed early on the weekends.
Tomorrow, I’ll go to the vintage kilo sale with Viviane, the same I went like in the beginning of my exchange with Claudia, Mireia and Louise. I hope it won’t get shut bc of the Corona-virus-hysteria.
In Switzerland they’re now freaking out btw, the shelves in the supermarkets are empty. Apparently also here, people go on panic buyings, I haven’t noticed it, but Pauline told me this evening.
‘Twas it of today my dudes.

Day two hundred and sixteen (216)
So they're not shutting the schools here for now, we had an assembly this morning, but in Switzerland all the schools closed. You know it really starts to feel like the end of the world, first the bushfires in Australia, the looming doom of climate change, a literal pandemic, when are the zombies/aliens coming?
Well I'm glad that the schools won't close but Pauline says it's only a matter of time and for once I wish she wouldn't be right. I really don't want to leave earlier than I have to.
So, you know I got back to class after the assembly, the classroom empty cuz the s-fives had theirs and just copying the notes alone with the student teacher. A bit awkward gotta say.
French was just practice for the speaking on Monday, nothing special.
I got home fairly quickly and after some loungin about I got out to the city and went to get a nice belt, some hair clips and a new pair of sunglasses and then off to the Library to do my Biology homework and revise for Maths (logs are literally the worst).
I was lucky with the busses, I just had to sprint down from the National Gallery to the bus stop, but I got on and was home on time for dinner.
Now my friends in Switzerland have six (6) weeks off school, because in between are holidays but still, Carla told me that she was already bored on the very first day. I'd be the same, I would drive off the wall. Studying from home just isn't the same like going to school and having a teacher explain things to you. I mean that's what they're for.
I bet my mother is going crazy with my little brother now at home, haha I'm glad I'm not there, it would end in blood...
That's the momentary status, apparently they want to shut down Edinburgh Airport.
I think this year tourism and pretty every economy is going to suffer, except of course like the hand sanitizers and mask companies lol.
Ahh, I just hope it'll go away soon, this is a nightmare. This year was supposed to be one (1) of my best and now I'm worrying about a silly flu that probably won't even affect my health. This sucks.
